Mercedes Moné Becomes Two-Time Owen Hart Cup Winner; Thekla Spits In Starlight Kid’s Mask

Forces collide tonight as AEW, CMLL, NJPW, and Stardom come together to present Forbidden Door!

During the Buy In, Stardom’s Maika takes on Skye Blue to determine who will be the last woman to qualify for the TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest Match. Before we get underway with the match, the referees send Blue’s partner, Julia Hart, to the backstage area. Maika is all over Blue in the match, but as Blue fights back, she meets a nasty landing with the apron.

Both meet on the top rope, and Maika lands a Superplex only for a two-count. Maika looks to go for another, but gets stuck as Blue hits a Ligerbomb for a nearfall. As Maika escapes through the ropes, she lands a hard Suplex onto the apron. Maika follows up with her patented Michinoku Driver and qualifies for the Survival of the Fittest Match.

Maika now joins Harley Cameron, Persephone, Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, and Queen Aminata this Wednesday on Dynamite to see who becomes the new TBS Champion.

Also in the Buy in, the Divine Dominion defends their AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships against Thunder Rosa and CMLL’s Olympia.

Rosa gets a head start on Lena Kross, but gets ahead of herself as Kross tags out to Megan Bayne. Rosa takes both of them on, and she tags out to Olympia to show off their Lucha Libre. Kross gets a hold of Rosa’s foot and meets a Big Boot from Bayne.

Olympia finally makes the tag in and turns the tide against the Divine Dominion. Bayne catches Olympia on the top rope, as she connects with a Hurricanrana. Both teams are back and forth in this match, but the Divine Dominion double team Olympia and finishes off Rosa to retain their titles.

The AEW Women’s World Championship is on the line as Thekla defends her title against Stardom’s Starlight Kid. Thekla holds a long grudge against her former employer and is determined to spit on the company’s roster and President, Taro Okada. Defending the brand is Stardom standout, Starlight Kid, who aims to take the world title back to Japan.

Kid takes out Thekla to start the match, but Thekla regroups and starts disrespecting Kid. The Stardom competitor looks to take Thekla off her feet, but Thekla catches her and starts beating Kid near the barricade. Thekla meets eyes with Okada, but Kid puts the brakes on it before she does any damage to him.

The Sky Tiger looks to play around with The Toxic Spider a little bit, but the boasting costs her as she gets webbed up on the ropes. Both get caught up on the top rope, and Thekla lands a Spider Suplex. This doesn’t stop Kid as she lands a Dropkick on Thekla high up on the ropes. Now on the apron, Kid lands Black Tiger’s Divine Punishment as Thekla lands hard.

Thekla starts preying on Kid, but ends up whiffing the Spear. Kid locks in the submission and sends Thekla around in a unique Giant Swing. Thekla is trapped but manages to crawl to the ropes for the break. Kid hits Divine Punishment again, but Thekla kicks out despite the damage. The Moonsault from Kid connects, but yet again, Thekla kicks out.

Kid eats a Spear, and Thekla follows up with two curb stomps. She sends one final message to Okada as she finally gets the pin to retain her title. The Triangle of Madness comes out and cuts off Kid’s mask. She then begins to spit in her mask and beats Okada with it.

In our triple main event, we cap off the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament as Mercedes Moné and Maya World will face off for the cup. Both competitors were never meant to be in this tournament and served as alternates for Willow Nightingale and Sareee. Stakes are high as Moné aims to keep the title she won last year and clutch the only championship she has left. Meanwhile, World looks to complete her Cinderella story and score the upset of a lifetime.

World tries to get a quick pin on Moné, and Moné learns not to take her so lightly. Moné trips up World on the outside, as World tries to fight back.

Moné catches World in the corner and hits her signature Meteora on the apron. She follows up with consecutive Meteoras, as Moné is in control. Moné dumps World out of the ring and shows off her confidence to the crowd.

The CEO reminds World that she’ll never beat her, and World starts laying it in on Moné. World bounces off the ropes and hits a Cutter to get a two count. She then follows up with a Shining Wizard. Moné trips up World and gets greedy by hitting the Three Amigos. She goes for the Frog Splash, but World gets her knees up. This doesn’t stop Moné, as she tries to lock in the Statement Maker. World makes it to the ropes and finds her way to hit three consecutive Fallaway Slams to the outside. She hits a Tope Suicida and follows up with a big Senton to get another nearfall.

Moné hits a move familiar to the San Jose audience and follows up with a Meteora, only for a two-count. The CEO looks for her next move, but takes too long, as World finds a way to reverse. Moné finds a way to hit the Moné Maker, but World miraculously kicks out.

World escapes another Moné Maker, as Moné tries to find her signature Backstabber. Moné is in a precarious position as World lands a hard powerbomb on the floor and lands a Springboard Moonsault to the outside. World hits another Moonsault in the center of the ring, but Moné is determined not to give up.

Moné looks for the quick pin, but World reverses and locks in the Statement Maker. Just as Moné gets the ropes, World reverses, but it doesn’t work out in her favor. The crowd is on their feet, as both try to find the win. But, it’s not enough as Moné hits a nasty backbreaker and locks the Statement Maker in good. Moné is now a back-to-back two-time Owen Hart Cup Winner.

Renee Paquette is with the Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion, Athena, and isn’t surprised about the winner. She reminds World of why she is the greatest champion to exist and that World is just a little pupil in her game.
