Mickie James Featured in Richmond Magazine

TNA Knockout and former WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie James is featured in the latest issue of Richmond Magazine, based in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia.

The piece is an extremely well-written, in-depth article on James’ road to becoming a wrestler and does a great job in covering pretty much her entire career. Giving fans a look at the woman behind the wrestler, the piece also features comments from Mickie’s best friend and even TNA president Dixie Carter.

Perhaps most interestingly, is James telling a story of how she pitched a storyline to Vince McMahon directly before she was called up in 2005:

Finally, she’d had enough. Realizing she was lacking something the WWE wanted, James enrolled in acting and modeling classes. She also wrote a script — an ambitious storyline about an emotional female fan/stalker. WWE liked the idea and wanted their writers to develop it for another wrestler already in the TV stable, but in a gutsy move, James made an impassioned plea directly to WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

“I walked right into Vince’s office and I said, ‘Mr. McMahon, I heard you read my storyline, and I wanted you to know there’s nobody who can do that character better than me.’ ”

McMahon told her he respected her for having the courage to make the pitch to him.

Then another six months passed.

“I was like, ‘Oh, no, what did I do?’ ” James recalls.

More after the cut:

On her current role as a TNA Knockout, Dixie Carter has high praise for James too:

“I’m very, very excited to have her,” says Carter, who is supportive of James’ dreams to expand her fame to country music.

“She’s got the main thing you need, and it’s the drive, and so once you have that and that determination, I think it will be hard to stop her from accomplishing great things out of wrestling,” Carter says. “She’s in the prime of her career and she is very determined to take control and lead the women’s division in TNA wrestling, and in the few weeks she’s been with us, she’s done just that.”

Thoughts: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this piece. It is pretty long but definitely worth a read. The writer has certainly done their research on Mickie and has produced a great story on her.
