Raw Redux (April 22nd, 2013): AJ Takes One Step Closer to the Crown While Summer Arrives Early in England

raw

Hello everyone! Welcome to another Cryssified edition of your favorite weekly post here on Diva Dirt. I’ve been conveniently absent these past couple of weeks because I’ve been on vacation. Not only did I check out WrestleMania in person (and froze to death since we don’t have weather like that here in Alabama), but I was also part of the New Jersey crowd, and then headed to Chicago to see SHIMMER. I do plan on doing a wrap-up post on all of that sometime in the future, but for now, lets put memories of Fandangoing through Times Square at two a.m. with the best people ever (Rach, Aaron, Jimmy <3, Terri, Dan, Dan Danielson =P, and Michael) and fantasies about attractive, DREAMY SHIMMER cameramen on the back burner (it’s okay, Puente never reads this ;-)) and get down to business, shall we?

Last night, Raw was taped from merry ole England, and it treated us to several things. First and foremost, Kaitlyn and her doppelganger, Saint Tyler were both on Raw. That was nice to see. AJ Lee not only accompanied Prince Dawlf to the ring for his match against Dancing With the Stars alumni Chris Jericho, but she also competed in a match of her own (sort of…). And last, but certainly not least, NXT and Twitter favorite Summer Rae made her highly anticipated debut on the main roster.

And it was in the most lackluster way possible. Cue the hate.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the leggy blond was eventually paired with Europe’s favorite ballroom dancer, but if you are anything like me (and you really should be because I’m amazing), you just kind of hoped it never happened. I firmly believe that Summer deserves a spot on the main roster, but this is not exactly what I had in mind. After appearing with Fandango at the WrestleMania press conference, I kind of felt like it was only a matter of time before they might try this, but giving how well Sasha Zamolodchikova looked with him, I wanted them to just stick with her. After all, she was fabulously fierce and next to him, she looked amazing. But sadly, Sasha has rumbaed her way out of her lives for good and Summer has awkwardly twirled her way in.

And yes, I do mean awkwardly.

Some people are just born to dance. Summer, at least in this respect, is not. A very dear friend who was at Raw live last night said that she actually looked awful, and that’s unfortunate. Summer was truly a vision of sunshine on television last night. Photos and YouTube do NOT do this girl justice. She’s beautiful. And I believe they could have found a way better angle for her.

That aside, not all is lost.

My favorite part of the entire segment is how she didn’t hesitate to go right to Jericho when he offered his hand. For several wonderful seconds I kind of thought to myself, maybe this could work. Fandango looked absolutely heart-broken when Summer was striking a pose with the DWTS season 12, 7th place finisher.

It’s incredibly shameless on my part that I know that statistic, but don’t judge me. A show full of glitter, sequins, bangle bracelets, and spray tan is seriously made for me and you all know it.

To wrap up this bit, I do feel like it was a pretty blah debut for someone who is so promising. I reckon you guys are going to make the argument that everyone has to start somewhere, and Naomi is a dancer, and Kelly Kelly and Layla were once dancers, and yada yada yada. What else? I’m trying to take away all your comments before you can make them, but my brain fails me right now. And to just reply to whatever else you have to say, I never said I was a fan of those angles either. I also still believe that not everyone has to be a wrestler. What else so I don’t sound like a hypocrite?

How about I just have insane expectations for my favorites? I just want them to come in, kick butt, and absolutely slay everyone! (Summer did kind of slay in terms of how fabulous she looked so never mind that.) I don’t know. I didn’t like this particular debut because it looked awkward and felt weird. For now, I’m just going to chalk it up to a one night only thing with the awkward (it was her Raw debut), and see how it plays out on SmackDown and Raw from here on out.

Fair?

There, that works.

Moving on!!!!

We had a Battle Royal to determine the number one contender to Kaitlyn‘s title, while the champ herself sat at ringside to do commentary.

To be honest, the great Battle Royal Diva that is Rosa Mendes was truly missed tonight. When she’s around, you just know who is going to get eliminated first. Whatever is going on in her life, hopefully it gets fixed and she gets back on the road soon. A Diva Battle Royal without Rosa Mendes is basically just a fish without water. You know it’s going to die soon enough, but watching it suffer while gasping for air is just excruciating! So dramatic, I know, but that was the battle royal in a nutshell. It was filled with so many what ifs!!!!

That’s such crap.

As far as Battle Royals go, this was one of the worst they’ve had in awhile. It wasn’t so much the action that bugged me, it was the lack of Divas I guess. Half the roster was off in other areas, and for some reason Cameron wasn’t allowed to participate. I feel like they might have been better off waiting until they were back in the States, especially since they have a nice amount of time until the next pay-per-view, but whatever. The action that we did get was pretty creative. I loved AJ absolutely eating that superkick from Tamina, and in case you guys were just dying to know, Aksana was the first eliminated! Obviously, if you watched the video you knew that, but go with it. It was nice to see Layla being teased as being the winner, and the ending was great. AJ won that so cheaply and it was pretty fitting.

So many people have been waiting for AJ and Kaitlyn to happen, myself included, but I hope it doesn’t take place on Raw next week. Not only will it be taped (I think…), but they deserve a proper feud. They have the history and whatnot, and there is time for a proper build. Lets just keep our fingers crossed it doesn’t happen on Raw, or even on SmackDown. That would be terrible.

Raw was kind of promising tonight but not really. At least we got a debut. And now we may have direction with the Diva’s Championship. I do feel like this doesn’t bode well for Kaitlyn, but if she does drop to AJ, we get to have a few months of her chasing the title, and honestly, I wouldn’t mind if they traded it back and forth between themselves a few times before someone else enters the title picture. That’s something we haven’t really seen in awhile, and if the WWE takes the time, they could substain Kaitlyn and AJ through the summer and have a blow off match between the two of them at Summerslam. Total dream scenario.

Anyway that about wraps us up for today. I just want to take a moment and say thank you to all the people I was around in New York, New Jersey, and Chicago. So many people go into making weekends like that special and I know that there are many, many people I hold near and dear to me. To Edward and Paul who helped me make it to ‘Mania, THANK YOU!!!!

Until next time…. Cryssi out!
