WWE’s hottest event of the summer is just around the corner, but for the women of the promotion, they don’t seem to be catching any breaks.
Due to Rhea Ripley’s injury, an Interim WWE Women’s Champion is being crowned at SummerSlam Although having five women in a ladder match for this is good idea on paper, one of the women who have already qualified was originally planned to have a different match.
According to Cory Hays of False Finish, Tiffany Stratton was planned to defend the WWE Women’s United States Championship against Blake Monroe. So now instead of getting another women’s match at SummerSlam, we are having Stratton participate in the ladder match to become Interim WWE Women’s Champion. A match that did not need to include this talent.
WrestleVotes via Fightful Select also reported similar information. They stated that Ripley’s injury forced WWE to make changes to several creative plans. Not just the Women’s U.S. Title match being nixed, but also a proposed title match between Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair. It is not explained in this report if this means that it was originally just going to be Cargill vs. Flair for the WWE Women’s Title if Ripley vacated it.
Currently, there are only two women’s matches scheduled for the SummerSlam two night event.
