Report: WWE Officials Considering No Divas Match at WrestleMania?

Recent reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggest that there has been discussion about whether or not to book a Divas match at WrestleMania 28 on April 1st.

The Observer notes that there has been “sentiment against putting the women on just to do so”, and taking away from “matches people are paying to see”, referring to headlining bouts such as The Undertaker vs Triple H and John Cena vs The Rock.

The report also notes that it’s been suggested that the Divas compete in a pre-show match, but goes on to say that WWE has a mentality of needing to put a Divas match on the card, and that the women have worked all year for a WrestleMania spot like the male Superstars.

Thoughts: I can see how this might create uproar amongst some fans, but the way I see it, it’s all in the wording. Just because one or two officials have spoken to the Observer doesn’t mean they collectively speak for the entire WWE and a match won’t happen. Additionally, the word ‘sentiment’ is just that — a feeling (presumably amongst those who have commented, and not the entire managerial team). It’s not a mandate that is set in stone. Secondly, judging by the recent TV focus on Beth Phoenix‘s streak, I’m inclined to believe they may have something on deck for the Divas, so I’m not about to start picketing.
