Hola everyone, and welcome to this week’s SmackDown Redux! This week on the blue brand, Brie Bella teams up with Naomi and Cameron (with Nikki Bella) to take on the team of Natalya, Kaitlyn and Eva Marie (with JoJo). Can the Total Divas (and Kaitlyn) impress or will we see a repeat of Monday night’s debacle? Check out the match below:
We kick off the match with The Bellas and The Funkadactyls already in ring. After a bit of dancing and pompom shaking, Team Natalya makes their way to the ring. The referee signals for the bell, and our Divas match is underway.
Brie and Natalya start off for their respective teams and after a friendly handshake, the Divas break into a chain wrestling sequence, which Brie gets the better of with a impressive roll through into a half crab. After a bit of struggling, Nattie makes it to the ropes, forcing the break.
Frustrated, Nattie goes straight for the Sharpshooter, but Brie has her scouted and kicks her away. Before Brie can escape to her corner, Natalya pulls her to her feet, gives her a playful slap on the behind and drags her across the ring, tagging in Eva Marie.
Brie immediately jumps on the rookie, attempting to whip her across the ring, but Eva reverses it with a cartwheel and rolls Brie up for a nearfall. Eva locks in a armbar, but her offense is short-lived as Kaitlyn tags in and goes to work.
Kaitlyn works over Brie’s arm, but Brie grabs the ropes, flips to reverse the pressure and slips out of Kaitlyn’s grasp. Brie quick tags out to Cameron, who walks right into a kick to the gut from Kaitlyn followed by a scoopslam for a two count. Kaitlyn tries to pull Cameron, but gets a kick to the face for her trouble, resulting in a nearfall for Cameron.
Cameron tags in Naomi, but they missed a double team maneuver and Naomi pays the price, ending up on the receiving end of a huge spear from Kaitlyn, which results in all the Divas getting involved. After the smoke clears, Kaitlyn tries to get the jump on Naomi with a rollup from behind, but Naomi reverses it and picks up the win for her team. Post-match, The Bellas dance side by side with The Funkadactyls in the ring and all is right in the world.
We also got a (awkward/awesome) segment that saw Vickie Guererro lock lips with Alberto Del Rio. Yup. You totally read that correctly. Check it out below:
Thoughts: Honestly, I enjoyed the match more than I thought I would. Brie is really coming along well as a singles competitor and did really well and Eva’s ring time was kept at a minimum, which is good considering her experience level. Leaps and bounds better than the match in Monday.
My main concern now is, where does the division go now? For months, the Divas division has been thriving, due to the success of Total Divas and AJ Lee grudge against them. But with AJ’s status up in the air, it seems that things have come to a standstill for now. Let’s just hope that AJ comes back soon or WWE has a plan B, or I fear we could be stuck in this Diva limbo for a while (or at least until Total Divas comes back from hiatus…)
Well, that’s all for now, guys! Until next week!
