The Diva Dirt Writers’ Choice Awards 2011: Best Breakthrough, Feud, Heel, Babyface & Most Improved

Diva Dirt presents the first annual Writers’ Choice Awards, the awards that celebrate the year in women’s wrestling, as decided by the editors and contributors of Diva Dirt. The Diva Dirt team has watched hundreds of episode of wrestling television this year, as well as hundreds of live events on DVD, additionally, we’ve followed a countless number of wrestlers over the year, and reviewed tons of matches. Now, as we come to the end of 2011, we have picked the best of the best to be awarded our Writers’ Choice blue ribbons.

BEST BREAKTHROUGH
Maxine
Though Maxine made her WWE debut in 2010 on the third season of NXT, it was in 2011 that the feisty Diva proved that triple threats do still exist in the WWE Divas division.

Maxine has quietly been stealing attention away from the Divas on Raw and SmackDown, and fans of the Divas are paying closer attention to NXT now where Maxine has been displaying what the Divas division can be if given the opportunity. On NXT, Maxine has shown that she can not only wrestle, but cut amazing promos and be involved in interesting storylines. Her love triangle with Derrick Bateman and Johnny Curtis has been the focal point of the show for the past couple of months now.

Meanwhile, Maxine’s in-ring improvement from her season of NXT last year is astonishing. The Diva has shown rapid progression in the ring and impressed fans with her front-facelock guillotine submission and her devastating finishing move which is similar to Nikki Roxx‘s Barbie Crusher.

Perhaps Maxine’s biggest asset, though, is her voice. In an era where Divas aren’t considered to be “talkers” and rarely get promo time, Maxine is a welcome throwback to the female wrestlers of past generations. Her promos are the best in the Divas division.

So Maxine, congratulations! The Diva Dirt writers commend you on your breakthrough year.
