The status of WrestleMania amid the Coronavirus *Updated*

Update: (3/12 7:15 PM ET) WWE has released the following statement.

“While we remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, we are putting contingency plans in place in the event that it is cancelled by government officials, civil authorities and/or local venues. The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay.”

According to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT he posted earlier today that one of the contingency plans could be moving the event to the summer.

WrestleMania and its surrounding events are just three weeks away. Due to the ongoing threat of the Coronavirus, at this time there is no word on if the events will continue, cancel, or be postponed.

There seems to have been some confusion as to when an announcement was supposed to be made. Originally there was an announcement saying that the city of Tampa would hold a press conference at 1:30 PM ET in order to discuss upcoming big events in the Tampa area.

As you can see through the Twitter thread below from Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, the Commissioner Les Miller thought that WWE had a press conference on what they were going to do. They didn’t.

Commissioner Miller has stated that they will see if WWE makes a decision on WrestleMania and its events. If they do not come to a decision then they will reconvene next week on what will be done.

Basically we will have to wait another week before a decision is made.

PWInsider has also confirmed that there has been no decision as of yet. They state the following:

“Mayor Castor (Tampa Mayor) and the other officials later stated that they have several weeks until Wrestlemania and do not need to make a decision at this time.  They stated that if WWE does not make a decision on their own, they will reconvene next week.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has previously suggested that any events with a mass amount of people be canceled for the next 30-days.

Other sport organizations in the United States have canceled, postponed, or will be playing without fans present.

Diva Dirt will update you on any further news surrounding the status of WrestleMania as more information presents itself.
