Trick or Treat! Going Halloween Costume Shopping: Part 1

Happy Halloween! We’re continuing our yearly tradition of dreaming up Halloween costumes for our favorite Divas and Knockouts. This year, we’ll be mixing Knockouts and Divas together in three posts leading up to the big day. But before you see this year’s picks, be sure to catch up on the past 3 years of this feature:

2008
2009: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
2010: Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

All caught up? Let’s get started!

AJ & Kaitlyn
Costume: Mario (AJ) & Princess Peach (Kaitlyn).
Why?: AJ‘s nerdy-cute personality really lends itself to a video game-themed costume. Kaitlyn, who is not as geeky as her partner, could certainly pull off playing the dainty Princess Peach in her puffy pink gown. AJ’s definitely got the relentless underdog act down pat, and you can almost picture her going to the ends of the earth to save Kaitlyn from the clutches of some nefarious enemy (while wearing a red plumber’s uniform and a big mustache). That’s not to say that Kaitlyn needs to be rescued, but it always pays to have the partner who can come in with the hot tag and clean house.
Get the look: Dress as Mario or Princess Peach.

Angelina Love & Winter
Costume: White Swan (Angelina) & Black Swan (Winter) from Black Swan.
Why?: One is a (relatively) meek woman; the other is the dark force that controls her. Am I describing the two sides of Natalie Portman’s character in Black Swan or the relationship between Angelina Love and Winter? Could be either, which is why having them dress up as two very different sides of the same crazy coin makes perfect sense. Besides, seeing Winter in that dramatic makeup would be amazing, no? We can picture her showing up throughout the night, gradually sprouting more and more black feathers until she’s as covered as Portman’s Black Swan was at the end of Swan Lake.
Get the look: Don a White Swan costume or follow this in-depth tutorial to transform yourself into the Black Swan.

Beth Phoenix & Natalya
Costume: The Legion of Doom
Why?: The Legion of Doom are one of the most memorable tag teams in wrestling history, and the Divas of Doom undoubtedly wish to leave as lasting an impact as they did. Hey, they donned the “Doom” name for a reason. And while clearly, Beth Phoenix and Natalya aren’t as big and buff as those two nor are they sporting mohawks, the big red shoulder pads, giant spikes and distinctive face paint would certainly create a resemblance. As for the rest of it, a few well-placed Glam Slams and Sharpshooters should convince everyone that they’re the Legion of Doom reincarnated.
Get the look: Grab a partner, mimic the face paint and buy yourself some spiked shoulder pads.

Brie & Nikki Bella
Costume: Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield from the Sweet Valley High series.
Why?: About as 1980s as you can get, the Wakefield twins from the Sweet Valley High book series are not exactly spitting images of Brie and Nikki Bella. The Sweet Valley twins actually are portrayed more like individuals than the Bellas are, with their drastically different interests and styles. It might actually be a welcome break from the matchy-matchy clothes and attitudes that come with being twins in the WWE. And you can’t deny that it would be a funny thing to see the Bellas dress in stereotypical 80s clothing (scrunchies, gaudy sweaters, acid-wash jeans, bunched-up socks in sneakers) and ultra-blonde wigs and pretend to be good girls, if only for a day.
Get the look: Find someone who looks enough like you, and wear the most stereotypical 80s clothing you can find. Don’t forget the blonde wigs!

Karen Jarrett
Costume: Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series.
Why?: As VP of the Knockouts division, Karen Jarrett is a pretty ruthless, vicious leader, eerily bringing to mind another such leader: Voldemort. When she doesn’t get what she wants, people pay (see Traci Brooks being escorted from the building by security) and when she doesn’t want to dirty her hands, she’ll get someone else to do the heavy lifting (see Gail Kim‘s big return on Impact). The VP has begun to gather a group of Death Eaters followers about her too.. So even though she’s not promoting some Nazi-like agenda a la Voldemort, the connections are still striking. Quick, I think we should check Velvet Sky for a lightning bolt scar–she may be the division’s only hope.

Kelly Kelly
Costume: Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones.
Why?: An underestimated, unassuming young woman, forced to become stronger by circumstance? While that’s pretty much a dead-on description of Daenerys Targaryen’s storyline in the first season of Game of Thrones, it fits Kelly Kelly‘s recent story pretty well too. With the Divas of Doom on her tail, Kelly was forced to defend herself against greater opposition than she had ever encountered, and while the story ended with her losing her Divas Championship to Beth, the experience did serve to bring out a stronger, more intense side of Kelly than we’d ever seen before. She may not have a trio of baby dragons at her disposal like the Khaleesi does, but her recent temper flares were pretty fiery on their own.

Maryse
Costume: Smurfette.
Why?: Maryse would probably love to be the sole woman in the world, and the closest thing to achieving that, outside of mass murder, would be to be Smurfette, the only female in the Smurf world. The blonde hair is already in place, so all she needs is a white dress, white heels, that white hat, and a whole lot of blue body paint. The toughest part for her to pull off? Probably playing coy. Maryse has never been one to not cut right to the chase. But, for the sake of Halloween, we’re sure she could be a little less “Sexiest of the Sexy” and a little more “Smurfiest of the Smurfy”.
Get the look: Cover yourself in blue paint and wear a white dress, white heels, and a pointy white hat. If that’s too tough, just get the full costume.

ODB
Costume: A blow-up doll.
Why?: ODB is pretty much a frat boy in a Knockout’s body, so it would be quite fitting for her to don a costume made for the fraternity set. Dressing as a blow-up doll is crass and gross, but that’s the point, isn’t it? If anyone could pull off something like this, it’s ODB. It almost fits her personality too perfectly. She just needs to find a spot to stow her trusty flask.

Sarita & Rosita
Costume: Ghostface and a teenaged victim from the Scream series.
Why?: Sarita‘s no stranger to wearing a mask, so why not the iconic Ghostface mask? That, along with a hooded black cape and a knife would be all she needs to dress the part of the mass murderer (and mass identity switcher) Ghostface from the Scream movie series. Her partner Rosita could play the perfect victim, dressing like Drew Barrymore’s character from the opening scene of the series while running around screaming, bleeding and clutching an outdated portable phone. But, as they tag team partners and cousins, Sarita probably has no desire to chase down and kill Rosita, so they could always pull a Scream-like twist and turn out to be partners in crime, eh? Quite the diversion..
Get the look: Don a Ghostface costume and get a friend to wear a blonde bob, a tan sweater and a convincing look of utter fear. Bonus points for carrying a clunky phone.

Vickie Guerrero
Costume: Gloria from Modern Family.
Why?: Vickie Guerrero has no doubt how hot she is, so it stands to reason that she would find it quite easy to slip into the shoes of Sofia Vergara’s character from Modern Family. A tight dress in a feisty animal print is the key to the look, but a long brown wig, high heels and statement jewelry would perfect it. Then, all Vickie would need to do is speak in Gloria’s signature accent and tote Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger around as her personal Jay and Manny. The cougar becomes the trophy wife!
Get the look: As mentioned, a tight animal print dress, long brown hair and statement jewelry will make the look. A thick Columbian accent will perfect it.

Stay tuned for part 2 and 3 leading up to Halloween.
