Will there be an Evolution 2 event this year? According to Dave Meltzer, that answer is no. A fan asked him on Twitter if there are any rumblings throughout WWE about another all-female pay-per-view this year. He stated that nothing is currently on the schedule.
Last year the first all-female pay-per-view, Evolution, was a huge success for the company. It can be argued that it was one of the better events throughout the year. It occurred right before Crown Jewel that took place in Saudi Arabia. Due to women not being able to perform in the country many fans felt as if this was the companies way of softening that blow. This year it doesn’t seem to be as much of a concern.
“We haven’t announced any plans yet for Evolution but we have a lot of things in the works right now.”
In December there were rumors of making an all-woman pay-per-view an annual occurrence. There were also talks about having a Queen of the Ring event. With half of the year still ahead of us, anything is still possible, right?
Another yearly event that has been popular for the past two years is the Mae Young Classic Tournament. A third installment was originally rumored by Squared Circle Sirens. They found the mention of a third annual tournament on a German documentary that comments on it while tryouts were occurring in Germany. In the documentary trainer, Sarah Stock along with the Senior Director of Talent Development, Canyon Ceman announce that the tournament will be returning. No date was announced.
Generally Mae Young Classic tapes in July and airs in September. At this time WWE hasn’t mentioned anything confirming the event will happen this year. From this, it can be concluded that it is either not in their plans any longer or perhaps it will be pushed to later in the year.
