Winners & Losers: SmackDown 06.19.20

Friday Night SmackDown this week focused on the shattered relationship between Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. We also continued to see Sasha Banks and Bayley in control of the division both dominating the tag team and singles divisions. Banks and Bayley bragged on commentary that they have essentially beat everyone.

They will be defending their Women’s Tag Team Championships on Monday against The IIconics – a team they have beat before. Bayley also gloats that she has gone through the entire women’s division on SmackDown which is why she is still the longest-reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion.

First, let’s go over the segment between Mandy and Sonya. Mandy is invited to Miz TV to air her grievances over the dissolved friendship between her and Sonya. The interview didn’t last very long as it was clearly a set up as The Miz invited Sonya to join them. Mandy is tired of Sonya coming for her, but Sonya is still upset that week after week she gets pushed to the side.

Sonya lists off Mandy’s shortcomings including not winning matches and mocked her for making out with Otis poolside. Mandy fights back by saying that Sonya really has nothing and that she is alone. The focus continues to be on Mandy’s looks and Sonya vows to rip her apart so that her outside reflects the same as her insides.

The two brawl in the ring before Sonya is able to roll to the outside. The Miz then stops Mandy from going after her which causes a slap to the face.

Sasha and Bayley join commentary during a tag team match between The New Day and The Lucha House Party. Throughout the match Bayley was “taking notes” and both she and Sasha were declaring they are the best tag team – even better than The New Day.

After Bayley and Sasha declared that they have beat everyone on the roster and therefore the best, the SmackDown women were seen backstage. They were talking about remarks being made by the champions. Lacey Evans seemed to think she was next in line to go after Bayley and Dana Brooke stepped in making it sound like they all need an opportunity.

Alexa Bliss interrupts the group asks where is Nikki Cross?

Nikki Cross was actually planning a sneak attack on Sasha and Bayley who were still at ringside. Bliss would rush out to ringside to break up the fight and be at her tag team partners’ side. Cross demanded to have Sasha get in the ring and fight her. Bayley once again offered up Sasha to have the match.

The match was a good exchange between the two. Both showing good offense. In the end, Banks would pull off another win by hitting the Meteora and getting the pin. She continues to rack up the wins and continues to look strong at the top despite Bayley putting her into these situations.

Let’s get into the Winners & Losers this week:

WINNER: Sasha Banks

She keeps on racking up those wins. It is refreshing to see her get these wins after so many times putting over others. The idea of Nikki losing this match even though she initiated the interaction was kind of awkward even though it makes sense to continue to have Sasha come out on top. This is especially important when Bayley continues to put her in these positions.

WINNER: Sonya Deville

Sonya continues to kill it. Mandy does well also as they do a great job playing off of each other, but Sonya always shines. I hope they have a match at Extreme Rules with obviously a stipulation. Her matches with Lacey were great as well a couple of weeks back. I am very excited about her future.

LOSER: Tamina

I guess we are not getting her new gimmick after all. For those who may not have seen, Tamina unveiled a video of herself in a mental hospital and to finally go a new route with a character. As soon as it was up on Twitter it was taken down. This could have been a big change for her and seeing her clearly not going for that gimmick is a big loss. It was something to look forward to.
