Hikaru Shida retains AEW Women’s Championship at AEW Fyter Fest

This week we got the first night of AEW Fyter Fest. Night 1 of the two week event featured AEW Women’s Champion, Hikaru Shida defend her title for the first time against ‘The Super Bad Girl’ Penelope Ford.

The match was the second of the night and started with a short video package that showcased how Shida vs Ford came to be.

Penelope Ford was accompanied to the ring by Kip Sabian. A focused Hikaru Shida stormed to the ring and a shoving match ensued.

Referee Aubrey Edwards intervened and ejected Sabian from ringside much to the dissmay of Ford.

The action kicked off fast and furious as Ford ate a Knee to the face right after the bell but managed to escape a Falcon Arrow attempt.

The action would spill outside and a cocky Ford would fall victim to Baseball slide from Shida to send her crashing to the floor.

Shida would keep up the heat and set up Ford on the apron to execute her patented running apron knee lift.

Back in the ring Ford hits her signature handspring elbow and a bridging German Suplex for a two count.

Ford would remain in control and hit a nasty backwards DDT for another two count.

Shida would recover and enter and win a strike-off but ate a big pump kick form Ford.

Ford evaded a dropkick with a matrix move and followed up her amazing athleticism with a stunner for a close two count.

Sabian would interfere but suffer a kendo stick shot to the head for his efforts.

The distraction would allow Ford would hit a spring board cutter for another close two count.

Ford would miss a moonsault and Shida would hit a Falcon Arrow but Ford would amazingly kick out.

A shocked and angered Shida would then smash Ford with a Shining Wizard for the victory.

A great match that made both wrestlers look fantastic. Hikaru Shida looks like a star and wrestles like a star and this was a star-making performance from Ford.

Ford looked deadly and dangerous, swift and stiff throughout the match. She definitely brought her A-game but Shida is an A+ player who was, despite a few close pinfalls, never going to lose the title tonight.

This was the right result from match that further solidified a star while making a new one.
