There are a number of free agents when it comes to women wrestlers currently.
A few names that are buzzing around as far as where they may end up are Toni Storm, Athena (Ember Moon), and Nixon Newell (Tegan Nox). Athena and Newell were released by WWE in November whereas Storm chose to leave the company in December.
Out of these three free agents, Athena has been the only one to have returned to the ring. She has done a few matches on the indie scene, most notably with Warrior Wrestling, and is on the chase for the promotions women’s championship. Storm and Newell have not returned to the ring since their WWE departure.
According to the latest report from Fightful Select, here are a few notes on the current status of these talented women.
Fightful has learned from AEW talent that there is a significant interest in the former NXT UK Women’s Champion Toni Storm joining the company. The interest is so much to the point that several talents outright expect her to appear for them sooner than later. There were a number of wrestlers within AEW that were pushing to have her be brought in.
There have reportedly been light talks and interest between former NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon and AEW. Those who have commented on it have stated that there was a “feeling out” process between both Athena and AEW since she was first released from WWE. Fightful has not heard as of yet if she’ll be signed or brought in. Furthermore, there didn’t seem to be a sense of urgency to lock her down. Promoters have indicated that Athena is very selective in her independent bookings.
Lastly, when Fightful inquired about Nixon Newell, they were told that as of a couple of weeks ago she’d been kept very busy sorting out her visa situations. This has been a frequent concern for many wrestlers who have suddenly found themselves as free agents.
