Like Fathers, Like Daughters

Wrestling is known for having a lineage of talent. Some of the most commonly known talents are on the male side of the locker room. Randy Orton (Bob Orton), The Usos (Rikishi), Curtis Axel (Mr. Perfect, Curt Hennig), and Cody Rhodes/Goldust (Dusty Rhodes) are just a few of the male wrestlers who come from wrestling fathers. The female locker room also has their fair share of second and third generation wrestlers. We have the most commonly known women such as the current Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair (Ric Flair), Natalya (Jim Neidhart), and Tamina (Jimmy Snuka).

A second or third generation wrestler has to overcome a lot in order to make it. A lot of people think that these ladies already have a foot in the door because of their lineage, while other people realize they have to work that much harder. A spotlight is always on them to see if they are as good as their fathers.

Let us take a look at some of the women that are a second or third generation wrestler:

The 2017 Ms. Money in the Bank winner Carmella is a second generation Superstar. She grew up watching wrestling and her father was a wrestler for the WWE in the 1990’s. She stated on Total Divas that he didn’t “make it” in his career.

It was mentioned before that Curtis Axel is the son of the late “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig, however he is not the only child of Hennig that is a wrestler. Amy Hennig is the daughter of Hennig and she was performing in World League Wrestling (WLW), which is Harley Race‘s (WWE Hall of Famer) wrestling promotion. She is a 3rd generation wrestler as her grandfather is Larry Hennig. She is a three time WLW ladies champion.

Next up is Shaul Guerrero, who went by the name of Raquel Diaz, is the daughter of Vickie Guerrero and the late Eddie Guerrero. Diaz was one of the top women in the then Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). She is the longest reigning FCW Diva’s Champion and also was the queen of FCW. Her reign lasted longer then Naomi’s and Aj Lee’s. In 2012 FCW became the now NXT and Diaz continued her career until she asked for her release in 2013. She came back for a second run in 2014 but that was short lived due to personal reasons.

Those who watched the Mae Young Classic may recognize the name Of Rachel Evers. Some people though may not realize that Evers is the daughter of Authors of Pain manager Paul Ellering. Although Ellering has stepped foot in the ring as a competitor in the past, he is mostly known for managing the Road Warriors throughout most the 80’s and then for a few years in the 90’s. Evers has been all over the indie scene, appeared in NXT, and also Impact.

In October of 2016, the daughter of Hulk Hogan and former TNA Knockout promoter Brooke Hogan announced that she was starting a female wrestling organization. This organization will include the daughters of Roddy Piper, Diamond Dallas Page and Kerry Von Erich. As of June of last year, Hogan declared that she has a roster of 40 women for this promotion.
