More On Saraya Being Cleared To Return To The Ring

On the Nov. 9 episode of AEW Dynamite, Saraya confirmed that she is 100& cleared and can return to in-ring competition. Saraya has not wrestled due to neck injuries since 2017. She officially signed with AEW in September and immediately targeted Dr. Britt Baker. Saraya will face Baker in her return to the ring at Full Gear on Nov. 19.

Speaking with Renee Paquette on The Sessions podcast, Saraya gave more details on her clearance and the moments of when she started to think she could really make an in-ring return.

“I came to terms with not being able to wrestle anymore, and that’s fine, but a couple years ago I did do some x-rays and they were looking great. I didn’t do the full MRI, just the x-rays. It’s not like a perfect read on the neck with the whole fluid thing. X-Ray is just the bones and MRI, you can see everything, the inner workings of the neck, the important part like how much fluid is around there, it’s crazy. I was nervous about doing the MRI a couple years ago, but [the x-ray] was looking good, ‘maybe in a couple years it’ll start looking better.’ I wasn’t going to rush it because Edge was out for nine years, Stone Cold (Steve Austin) had the match with Kevin Owens but he didn’t bump very much. It was limited, but it was still an amazing match.

I thought, ‘I could probably pull off doing a Stone Cold match.’ I’m throwing that idea at Tony (Khan) and he’s like, ‘With Sting coming in, we did tag matches. Maybe we could do tag matches.’ I was like, ‘Hmmmm.’ If I were to come back, I would want it to be a singles match. I remember talking to the doctors and they were like, ‘you can do this, but we’re not going to clear you to take a bump.’ That’s the whole misconception with how the internet works. ‘She talked to 25 doctors and AEW doctor, Doc Sampson cleared her.’ He didn’t clear me for anything. I went out there with Britt and we did our own thing, I didn’t ask for clearance from the doctor there, I’m going to be honest. He was cool with it, ‘just please don’t take a bump.’ It was, ‘if you want to actually have matches, we have to get you completely cleared. That means MRI, CT scan, everything.’ I don’t want to go to a doctor that is associated with wrestling because I feel there is bias there. I don’t want to make the same mistake where I came back and I’m wrestling every day. I want to be aware and careful of my neck this time. I want to get to the nitty gritty of what it looks like and how much I can do and if I’m going to be paralyzed. That was the biggest scare. If I did wrestle, I could potentially get paralyzed,” she said.

She continues to discuss the moment when she was cleared which took place just over a week ago. Saraya says she is going to take it easy and listen to her body and do one match a month and she works her way back into the ring.

“Halloween, I went to the doctor in California, one of the best around,” she said, noting that he works with athletes across all sports and entertainers. “If anyone is going to tell me no, this guy is going to tell me no because his job is on the line. I got the x-rays done. ‘These are great, but we have to triple check with CT scans and MRI.’ I did the CT Scan and MRI within the same hour. It was very quick. He sat there, we went through them all, and he went, ‘You’re cleared.’ I burst into tears. ‘Are you serious?’ I was still asking questions like about the fluid around my neck. It was just the fluid was back. The fusion was perfect, there were no fractures above or below. ‘Let’s talk about paralysis.’ ‘It’s rare. If you get kicked there, you have a cushion now. If you ever feel that you’re not feeling too well, take some time off. You know you’re body. I will clear you to get back in the ring.’ ‘How many matches can I have?’ ‘Take it easy, do one match a month and gradually start building it up.’ Long story short, Halloween is when I got the full clearance.”

After Saraya returned to WWE from her initial neck injury, she would have to retire from competition after a match that involved Sasha Banks. She discusses how Banks was the first person she texted when she found out that she was fully cleared to compete.

“I’m not going to be going absolutely crazy, but I also don’t want to be held back. I’m fully aware of what I can and can’t do. No, I’m not going to get kicked in the back of the head again, which was my fault, again, that was my fault. The first person I text was Sasha, one of the first people. All that stuff, that can mentally fuck someone up, to end someone’s career. A lot of people pitched us against each other, her fans were attacking me, my fans were attacking her. There was a small percentage, but they would attack each other and they’re always the loudest. They were going at it, they’re still going at it. They would send me tweets, ‘I’m so happy Sasha broke your neck.’ People are tweeting at her, ‘How dare you end someone’s career. You’re unsafe.’ She’s not unsafe. It’s an accident. It happens in wrestling.

I told her, ‘Hey sis, I just want to let you know, since the whole thing was tough on you mentally, but my doctor cleared me and told me my neck is 100% ready to go. I haven’t told anyone else, but I know this will make you feel good. I’m back, haha.’ She was like, ‘I’m so happy.’ She was over the moon. I said to her, ‘I don’t want you to feel bad anymore.’ I had that period of time away and that was actually for the best in the long run because I had time to focus on myself, get healthy, get sober, stop rushing out and doing other things. I felt it was meant to be and my neck healed in record time, it was five years, and I’m officially back. I think that’s pretty fucking inspiring,” stated Saraya.

Survivor Series WarGames Takes Shape; Nikki Cross Wins 24/7 Title

WARGAMES!

Now that Crown Jewel is over, Survivor Series hosting WarGames is the next and reportedly last premium live event of the year. On the Nov. 7 episode of Raw, the field for the women’s WarGames starts to take shape. We already know from the Survivor Series video that the match will be five-on-five. With a total of 10 women in the match we know of seven confirmed names.

The Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair along with Alexa Bliss and Asuka first entered the ring to address what took place at Crown Jewel. Belair was the last woman standing to retain her championship, however, Bliss and Asuka’s reign as tag team champs was left extremely short when Damage CTRL took back the gold.

Damage CTRL would interrupt Belair, Bliss, and Asuka. The two teams would trade words including an argument between Asuka and IYO SKY in Japanese. Bliss would also add that the only reason why Dakota Kai and SKY won the gold back was because of Nikki Cross. The six women would erupt into a brawl before Belair confirmed that they will end this once and for all in WarGames.

Cross would then enter the ring and give the numbers advantage to Damage CTRL as they laid out Belair, Bliss, and Asuka to end the segment.

Later in the night, Cross was seen backstage with Damage CTRL seemingly joining them as the fourth member of their WarGames team. She took on Dana Brooke for the 24/7 Championship and captured the title. With Brooke left in the ring, Bayley would place the championship belt on the shoulder of Cross as the four walked up the ramp.

Moments later, Cross was seen walking with Damage CTRL as she tossed the 24/7 Championship in the trash can (well it fell down next to the trash can).

Also on this week’s Raw, Mia Yim returned and joined The O.C. to combat Rhea Ripley and The Judgment Day. More on that can be read here.

There were separate backstage interviews from The O.C. and The Judgment Day separately about Yim’s return. After Ripley was done with her interview, she ran into Belair on her way to the ring. They shared glances with Ripley acknowledging Belair as champ.

Check back in with Diva Dirt for more news and results from the women of Raw.

Natalya Provides Update On Nose Injury From SmackDown

Natalya has taken to social media to provide everyone with an update on her injury from SmackDown.

On the pre-taped episode of SmackDown that aired on Nov. 4, Natalya went one-on-one with Shayna Baszler. Baszler would go on to pick up the win and after the match with the encouragement of the SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, Baszler would deliver more pain. Baszler drove her exposed knee into the face of Natalya which caused a bloody and dislocated nose.

In an update from Natalya, she states –

We moved my dislocated nose back to the center of my face where it belongs!! I love the shape of my nose and it will stay the same, thank goodness! Can finally breathe again. Pain is beauty! LFG!

There is no word at the time of this writing on how long Natalya may be out of action.

Diva Dirt sends our good thoughts to Natalya and we hope for a speedy recovery so we can see her back in the ring!

Bianca Belair Still Raw Women’s Champion And Last Woman Standing

Bianca Belair is still the Raw Women’s Champion as she defeated Bayley in a Last Woman Standing Match at Crown Jewel.

The match had it all. The common weapons of kendo sticks, ladders, tables, and chairs. Both women found out earlier on in the match that they will have to end up trapping their opponent to prevent them from getting up before the count of 10.

Bayley tried to capture Belair both in the ring steps as well as in a road case at the top of the stage to try and keep her down. A golf cart entered the mix before Bayley went through a table. The brawl goes back in the ring with steel chairs and a ladder. Belair hits a KOD to Bayley’s knee first on a steel chair. She places Bayley inside a ladder and pushes her into the corner under the turnbuckle so that she is unable to escape. The referee counts to 10 and Belair is still the Raw Women’s Champion.

Earlier in the night, Damage CTRL regained the Women’s Tag Team Championships. You can read more on that here.

Rhea Ripley and Scarlett were two women who also were on the show. Scarlett attempted to help Karrion Kross in his steel cage match against Drew McIntyre. Even though she pulled out the mace to spray in McIntyre’s eyes, it would be McIntyre who won the match.

Ripley helped out The Judgment Day as per usual to defeat The O.C. Commentary continues to say who can fight off Ripley with Michael Cole even saying someone needs to kick her ass. Ripley wore a Beth Phoenix-inspired hairdo saying that it was to honor the late great Beth Phoenix.
