Winners & Losers: RAW 02.24.20

With the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view just one week from this Sunday, RAW was all about the chamber match we are about to witness. What RAW wasn’t about, however, was having matches on their very own show. In fact, there wasn’t a single women’s match this week which is one down from the one last week.

What they did have though was a six-woman contract signing. This segment started with five out of the six competitors for the Elimination Chamber match ready in the ring. The sixth – Shayna Baszler, didn’t make her way out with the others. Prior to the women putting ink to paper, Asuka cut a promo in mostly Japanese. Afterward, the signing started first with Sarah Logan and then with Natalya.

https://twitter.com/WWEUniverse/status/1232139346876260354?s=20

Once Liv Morgan signed her name she hand delivered the contract to her foe, Ruby Riott. Riott would sign it but the feathers started to get ruffled. As Asuka does her signature, Baszler’s music hits and she makes her way to the ring through the crowd.

After Baszler signs the contract, she gets in Natalya’s face which starts the breakdown between the competitors. Asuka would then get in Baszler’s face and after yelling in Japanese, she says “bite me.” Asuka would then attack Natalya while Morgan would leap over the desk and take out Riott. Logan tried to be the peace keeper and pulled Morgan off Riott.

Baszler kept away from the chaos even though she is the one that started it. Becky Lynch’s music hit and then Baszler had no choice but to be involved. Both ladies had to be pulled back from officials and security as they attempted to break the fight apart.

As mentioned earlier, there were no matches this week. This could have easily been fixed by having two matches earlier in the night. It actually would have built up the animosity during the contact signing if done that way. They could have saved the big clashes such as Riott and Morgan by having had Logan face Riott earlier on. There is so much they could be doing, and they are missing it.

Let’s get into the Winners & Losers of the week:

WINNER: Asuka

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1232139597464907776?s=20

Asuka really carried this contact signing as a whole. There were other good parts, but she really shined as usual. The “bite me” line to Baszler was great and she adds that comical aspect to her heel persona. There is very little chance of anyone else winning this chamber match other than Baszler, but at least Asuka brings some excitement to it. After this, they really need to build up the tag team division.

This could be a reach, but Beth Phoenix will be at RAW next week to update everyone on Edge’s medical condition. If this could potential lead to Phoenix and Natalya challenging the Kabuki Warriors for the tag titles at WrestleMania, I am here for it.

WINNER: Liv Morgan

Liv was the other person who made this segment good. She is really hyping up her revenge on Ruby and it is fun to watch. Now if we can only get more invested in it as a whole. She is doing the best she can with what time they are allowing her to utilize. Her leap at Ruby was a highlight.

LOSER: Sarah Logan

It really feels like they just threw in Sarah into this Elimination Chamber match in order to have enough people. The story is there to have a complete break down between the former Riott Squad members, but they are only touching on it. Hopefully in the actual chamber match will show more of this. Until then, Sarah continues to be somewhat of an afterthought.

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 02.21.20

Much like RAW this week, SmackDown progressed many storylines as WrestleMania quickly approaches. The advertised match of the night saw Naomi face off against Carmella to see who would face Bayley for the blue brand’s title at Super ShowDown.

Unfortunately, this was the only women’s match of the night and it did start off super slow. It progressed nicely towards the end but by the time it picked up it was over and Naomi was the victor.

The Bella Twins were on ‘A Moment of Bliss’ to soak up an important announcement in their hometown. Alexa Bliss made it official that Nikki & Brie will be this years female inductees to the Hall of Fame. They were greeted with an overall warm response from the crowd and Bella Army.

Other women on the show included a sit down interview with Lacey Evans. The biggest take away was when Evans stated that she understood that she is at the back of the line for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She explained that she has to go through five women to get her shot. At this time a match has not been announced for Elimination Chamber. Could this mean we are getting two Elimination Chamber matches this year?

Fire & Desire also were present in backstage segments. As a follow up to Mandy Rose’s date with Otis last week, Tucker would approach the pair. He questioned why Rose did what she did being with Dolph Ziggler on Valentine’s Day instead of Otis. Rose stated that Otis didn’t show up. Tucker, seemingly confused, asked her why did she send a text saying that she was running late. Rose has no idea what text he is referring to. After Tucker left, Sonya Deville said to Rose that Ziggler seems to be more her type anyway.

For a full run down of the above events, you can check out the live coverage of the show by clicking here.

Let’s get to the Winners & Losers of the week.

WINNER: Naomi

Naomi got her title match. With only being back for a few weeks, Naomi has jumped full speed ahead to potentially go into WrestleMania as champion. Realistically, I personally don’t see Bayley losing the title less than two months away from the big show. With a rumor swirling around that Sasha Banks may be clear and ready, Naomi may not get to perform in Tampa, Fla. after all. Only time will tell that.

If what Lacey Evans says had any merit on the women of SmackDown possibly having an Elimination Chamber match as well, then Naomi will certainly be part of that. Regardless, Naomi vs. Bayley will be the first time that a women’s title will be defended in Saudi Arabia.

WINNER: The Bella Twins

The Bella Twins are big winners. The choice to have them inducted in this year’s Hall of Fame is certainly controversial. Regardless of how anyone feels about this, this is the ultimate end goal for many and this is just the icing on the top of all the positive things happening to them as of late.

Personally they earned this. They deserve to be in it, just look at the tweet below. Sure, the argument that many are having are saying it is “too soon.” To be honest, I feel that a lot of people are only saying that because they feel others should be put in first. I am not denying that other women such as Victoria, Melina, Molly Holly, etc. deserve their rightful spots in the Hall of Fame. They do. However, that shouldn’t negate The Bella Twins going in as well.

The way I look at it is that Edge went into the Hall of Fame the year after he had to retire. Nikki Bella is doing the same thing.

WINNER: Sonya Deville

Sonya is the silent winner of the week. Naomi and The Bella Twins were the loud and obvious ones. Sonya is clearly the one to send Otis that text and her “Ziggler is more your type” response to Mandy confirms it. Although I do want Fire & Desire to win the tag titles, seeing the storyline progress is great. Seeing Sonya becoming the true heel in all of this is even better.

LOSER: Carmella

Carmella definitely winds up on the loser list this week. Her short push seems to be over with. Hopefully, for her sake, she can still stay relevant leading up to WrestleMania. At this point, though unless she finds herself a tag team partner and WWE actually does something with the tag titles, she may be trying for a second win in the Women’s Battle Royal.

Winners & Losers: NXT 02.19.20

Several things were unpacked on this week’s NXT from TakeOver: Portland. The rivalry is still going strong between Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox. General Manager William Regal announced that the Street Fight wasn’t the end for these two former best friends. They will battle in a steel cage in two weeks.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1230335714627289093?s=20

The addition of Raquel Gonzalez at Kai’s side presents a new element. If they treat them as equals then this could go somewhere as a team, but more than likely Gonzalez will turn into the bodyguard. Gonzalez admits that her helping Kai on Sunday was a way to show her empathy as she knows what it likes to feel alone and left out.

The NXT Women’s Champion was not on the show this week which seemed weird as her WrestleMania opponent had so much to say on RAW. They did show a clip of her reaction after Charlotte Flair jumped her in Portland. The last piece of the puzzle to follow up with is Bianca Belair.

Belair interrupted the match between Chelsea Green and Kayden Carter to give a message to Flair. Essentially she states that she warned Flair to not stick her nose in NXT’s business. Since she did, now Belair wants a match with Flair. She states it doesn’t matter when or where, but she wants Flair.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1230347444652736512?s=20

Speaking of the match between Green and Carter, this was the only women’s match of the night. This is where NXT lacked this week. Only one women’s match was a let down. The roster has over 20 women plus at least a dozen more from the performance center that could be used on this show. There is no reason to only have one match.

Moving on to the match itself, it seemed very clunky. Personally, I don’t feel that Carter and Green have the same styles and mesh the best together. There was a move where Carter slipped on the ropes, but Green did take advantage of it to continue the momentum of the match. Carter has more of a fast paced in-ring style whereas Green is more technical.

The rematch made sense but it feels like it was just to fix that Green lost her first match as a part of this “Robert Stone Brand” pairing. Creative must have realized that her losing that match didn’t make sense.

The idea isn’t bad for this “brand” but there is a lot of work that needs to be done to make it work or it will just flop. Besides Belair’s interruption, Stone would interject himself by knocking Carter off her feet. This allowed Green to capitalize and hit the Unprettier for the win.

Let’s discuss the Winners & Losers from this unflattering week.

WINNER: Chelsea Green

Although the “Robert Stone Brand” idea doesn’t seem to be taking off to a roaring start, at least Chelsea received some retribution. The “re-launch” was a success but we shouldn’t be getting a re-launch already.

There appears to be a disconnect with where this is going. Hopefully it either picks up soon or maybe we can just reunite VXT and have them in the tag team division where they should have been by now.

WINNER: Bianca Belair

She interrupted the match. She called out Charlotte Flair. She is still being utilized at the top. Winner.

LOSER: Kayden Carter

Kayden losing does nothing for her but to put over Chelsea which could have happened the first time. We could have been moved on from this by now. Kayden needs to have matches with someone like a Kacy Catanzaro where the two can really show out.

Dakota Kai vs. Tegan Nox set for two weeks in a steel cage

Coming off of a successful NXT TakeOver: Portland, Dakota Kai won in her brutal Street Fight against Tegan Nox. Nox was mere moments from putting away Kai for the victory, however, a debuting Raquel Gonzalez stopped that result. Just moments ago on NXT, Kai and Gonzalez were being interviewed backstage. Gonzalez explained her actions. She … Read more
