Independent wrestler, Divina Fly, who recently had a tryout with TNA posted a few pictures from a photoshoot she did backstage with Lee South the day of her tryout. In the past, tryout talents have been known to take part in photoshoots with TNA despite not being signed, including our own Mia Yim and Christina … Read more
The latest episode of SoCal Val’s Pillow Talk is online with former Knockouts Champ, Tara. Let’s just say that the first minute or so is definitely a must watch…
In case you missed last night’s WSU iPPV, Final Chapter, chances are you missed out on an incredible main event. More on that at the end of this article. But for now, here are some exclusive news and notes we have coming out of the iPPV last night.
* Mercedes Martinez bore the brunt of the injuries coming out of the ladder match with Angel Orsini. Thankfully, nothing too bad. Just some cuts to her fingers, wrist and back. She will miss no ring time.
* With Martinez’s status up in the air over the past couple of months (it had been expected that she would sign with AAA in Mexico), WSU’s plan to have Alicia cash in her ‘any time, anywhere’ contract at the end of the show and take the belt. Obviously, that didn’t happen although Alicia teased it. As Martinez won’t be heading to Mexico, the decision was made to keep the belt on her.
* The All Guts, No Glory Championship will be done away with and Mercedes will simply go by ‘WSU World Champion’.
Diva Dirt presents live play-by-play from WSU’s Internet pay per view, Final Chapter, taking place live from the ACE Arena in New Jersey. Stay tuned for a full report (and sarcastic opinion) from the pay per view.
Pay per view begins with a video package of the feud between Mercedes Martinez and Angel Orsini.
Inside the arena, there are three ladders set up and the two main event ladies are brought out to the ring for the opening segment.
Orsini says she only cares about keeping her All Guts, No Glory belt and winning back the WSU World Championship. Martinez says she’ll climb the ladder and grab both titles. She says that Orsini deserves respect and she understands her frustration, but her reign as AGNG Champ ends tonight.
The two women climb the ladder and hang up their belts, where they will hang for the remainder of the evening until the main event.
The women now stare down in the middle of the ring and trash talk before exiting.
The ring is being cleared of the ladders as we await our first match of the evening.
We are kicking off with Niya vs Athena.
There’s a mix up by the ring announcer as Niya is announced first but it’s actually Athena who comes out. Athena attacks Niya with a kick to the face as she makes her entrance and the match is under way.
Athena vs Niya
Niya hits a side-headlock on Athena, surprising Niya. She plays it up to the crowd and the referee before they begin battling again. Athena and Niya lock up and Niya applies an armlock. Athena with a front headlock but Niya reverses. Athena fights back and re-applies the front headlock and then goes for an arm lock. Niya rolls through and goes for a pin but Athena kicks out.
Independent wrestler and friend of Diva Dirt, Mia Yim has officially joined Ring of Honor. Yim made her debut today at the final ROH on HDNet tapings in Philadelphia under the name ‘Princess Mia’. She is aligned with the Embassy stable, led by Prince Nana. The news is kind of bittersweet: On the plus side, … Read more
Last week, I proudly presented each and every one of you with the good, the bad, and the ugly of SmackDown. This week, we’re not going to be so fancy because not a lot happened. We had the usual continuation and follow-up, which is more than what happens on Raw so no complaints, please. Beth took on the other member of Lay-Cool in a singles match while one reader’s prediction of a Drew/Kelly/Trent love triangle may actually end up coming true. Let’s kick things off this week with the match featuring Beth Phoenix and Layla
SmackDown’s fierce duo make their way to the ring first. Michelle McCool is dressed to thrill in a gorgeous grey mini and boots, while Layla is rocking purple better than anyone I’ve ever seen in my life. So jealous. The girls have their Slammys and confident looks on their faces despite Michelle having lost to Beth on last week’s episode. They play to the crowd and to each other, and Beth’s music starts up. The Glamazon walks to the ring with a smile etched across her lovely face. Upon seeing her opponent, Layla’s look of confidence kind of dissipates. After Beth flips onto the mat, she eyes up Layla, and the match gets underway.
The name Athena has popped up a lot on Diva Dirt over the past several months, with us even touting her one of our ‘Five to Watch‘ last year. This rising young talent took the wrestling world by storm in 2010, making a name for herself in Anarchy Championship Wrestling in Texas, as well as debuting to much praise for SHIMMER last September. We thought it was about time we got on the phone with the self-professed ‘Wrestling Goddess’ so you can get to know her a little better.
She’s already hit the headlines over the past week taking part in a death-defying match against Rachel Summerlyn — a 10,000 Tacks Match — this past Sunday, in which she was victorious. And now this weekend, she makes her WSU debut live on iPPV against Niya.
We discuss her all that, plus what it was like training with WCW, WWE and TNA legend Booker T and whether she’s been approached for Tough Enough.
Well, I’ll be a coal miner’s daughter! It is that time again, people. The time of glorious wrestling drama and kinky Knockouts action! Alright. I’m a little bland when it comes to introductions this week so I’ll just get straight to the technical stuff. I promise, next week, I’ll do better!
Last week on Impact we saw the return of the flawless Karen Jarrett, hellbent on making her ex-husband’s life a living hell. We also saw a rather mediocre yet quizzical tag team match for the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Titles which gave Winter her first TNA submission victory. This week, Karen is back and ready to strike while four of the other Knockouts are set to take action in the ring, fatal fourway style. Plenty of action and lots to cover so it’s time to jump on the train and speed on the down the track. Let’s do it!
Our beloved Knockouts action starts out this week with a non-title fourway Knockouts match-up. Out first is Sarita, who gets a short yet hip shaking entrance, donned an orange version of her wrestling attire. Just once, I’d like to see her look as fierce in the ring as she does out of it. Speaking of fierce, out next is the lovely Velvet Sky, sporting brand new hot pink and silver attire that I have to say definitely flatters her. Similar design but thank cheese, she got rid of that crushed velvet material. Haha. In true fashion, Velvet “lets the pigeons loose”, playing it up as always. HARDCORE COUNTRY! Third to the ring is Mickie James, looking like she just stepped out of the barn in that lumberjack flannel. Nice to see she’s recovered from that concussion. SHE’S A KILLER QUEEN! Finally, last but not least, comes the Knockouts Champion herself, Madison Rayne. Now, the title of this week’s Impact is coined “Dirty Laundry” and rightfully so, considering our self-professed queen is donning that same damn beer wench outfit. I was really hoping she’d burned that but instead, she covered it up with a sash and accessorized…with a crown and side ponytail. Oh Madison.
Staying true to character, the champion screeches at SoCal Val, who is nice enough to hold onto the Queen’s items while she’s performing. Obviously just doing her job, poor Val just looks so confused as she walks away. Thank heavens, this match is finally going to kick off. Let me remind you, this is not a tag team match. Two in ring, two on the outside and tags must be made but there are no teams. The first Knockout to score a pin fall or submission walks away the winner. Madison and Sarita are the first to step out of the ring while Mickie and Velvet are both roaring to go. Velvet can’t wait to get her hands on Sarita while Mickie isn’t quite ready to give up her chance either. The two pull back and forth for a moment, trying to determine who will start things off but instead, come to a great compromise. Let’s just fight each other! Whatever happened to just flipping a coin? Is all the shoving necessary? Can’t we all just get along? No? Okay then. Lock it up!
Former WWE Diva, Torrie Wilson spoke about attending the upcoming WrestleReunion convention to Miami Herald this week.
Some of the highlights include her praise for both the WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts divisions. She said:
“I think that WWE and TNA [Total Nonstop Action Wrestling] have incredible female talent. The women now are so athletic. It’s almost as if you have to be athletic and be able to work in the ring versus a few years ago when you just had to be pretty. I’m amazed that some of things that those girls do. It’s good to see that they have an awesome crop of girls on both sides.”
Speaking on the current PG rating, Torrie says she wishes it was more PG when she was in WWE:

Arguably the top independent female wrestler of 2010, Mercedes Martinez had quite the year. Continuing her WSU World Championship reign, working SHIMMER and NCW Femmes Fatales, as well as debuting for River City Wrestling in Texas, Mercedes was everywhere. Her incredible year was capped by being crowned #3 on the PWI Female 50 and being honored by Pro Wrestling Illustrated last November live on iPPV.
Now in 2011, she’s set to kick off her wrestling year with a bang this Saturday, facing Angel Orsini in a ‘Winner Take All’ ladder match on iPPV for the WSU World and All Guts, No Glory Championships.
We catch up with Mercedes to look back at her noteworthy 2010 and her plans for 2011. Mercedes also clarifies a report here on Diva Dirt last year about her heading to AAA in Mexico, and whether she’s at all interested in WWE Tough Enough.

After a week of withdrawal, on this week’s edition of Raw, Diva fans were treated to the match we should have gotten last week: Maryse vs Natalya in a non-title bout. In what I assume is an attempt to make up for the lack of Divas last week, we also got Melina and Eve on guest commentary. Can the third generation Diva and the French-Canadian beauty put on a five star match? Will Melina and Eve get feisty at ringside? Check out the match below and find out:
Out first to the ring first is Maryse, who’s looking fantastic. During her entrance, Cole introduces Eve and an oddly silent Milena, who are ringside on commentary. Next out is Natalya, who practically runs to the ring. Are we short on Diva time already? In the meantime, Cole uses his journalistic prowess to get to the bottom of the issues between Melina and Natalya and is rewarded with icy cold silence from the #1 Contender. Awkward… Cutting his losses, Cole turns his questioning to Eve and brings up the tag match two weeks ago that saw Eve pick up the win over Melina. Eve smoothly deflects the question by talking about thrilled she is to be at ringside for this match. Sure you are…
Diva Dirt’s much loved (and sadly demised) Diva Soup is getting a spin-off and we want you!
Diva Soup was one of our most popular audio shows here at Diva Dirt, and since it abruptly ended back in September (blame Steven — we do!) we have been inundated by fans calling for its return. Though the show won’t be returning in its original form, we are going to introduce something very similar and are looking for fresh new voices to join our growing audio team.
