Breaking: Divas Night Might Be Scrapped!

14

Although last week’s ECW on SciFi featured a backstage segment with GM Teddy Long and assistant Tiffany where it was announced that this week’s ECW would be dedicated to the Divas, it seems as though this has been cancelled!

ECW has released a match listing and a preview for Tuesday’s ECW, and it is definitely not dedicated to the Divas. In fact, numerous other sources are reporting that DirecTV’s listed preview for ECW only mentions that ECW Champion Jack Swagger will be making an appearance. The announced card for the event is listed as Jack Swagger & Tyson Kidd vs. Tommy Dreamer and Evan Bourne, Morrison vs Carlito, and MVP’s VIP Lounge… and that’s it! If the WWE decides to have the Divas mentioned to hype the Battle Royal, it will probably only be for a segment or two at the most since there won’t be a whole lot of empty time in between those matches.

ECW will be taped tonight following Raw, so what officially happens will remain to be seen. If it doesn’t happen tonight, then next week’s ECW is the last chance to do Divas Night before WrestleMania 25 on April 5. It’s still a possibility… but who knows! WWE never even mentioned anything about Divas Night on WWE.com!

Looking back, though, when Howard Finkel blogged about Divas Night, he said that Tiffany “had a great idea for an upcoming episode of ECW” and never technically said it would be this week. In the actual clip, Tiffany says Divas Night would be “one night” for the Divas. I guess there’s still a chance of it happening next week, but regardless, there is no Divas Night this week! Let’s just hope it’s not really cancelled!

Gail Kim’s Toughest Challenge Yet: The WWE Audience

14

gail2

The first ever TNA Knockouts Champion has faced some tough challenges. In TNA Gail Kim faced off against Awesome Kong on more than one occassion. Then there’s the Six Sides of Steel. The street fights. And that ladder match. Gail broke barriers for women’s wrestling and helped bring the Knockouts division to prosperity. To us knowledgable Diva fans, she is a pioneer. But now miles away from TNA, Gail Kim finds herself in a unique situation: a familiar-yet-unfamiliar territory.

Back in the WWE and her SmackDown debut pending, this is Kim’s second run with the company. However the business and audience has changed vastly in the five years that Gail has been absent. So much so that Gail must now face her toughest challenge yet – winning over a new generation of WWE fans.

Judging from recent SmackDown house show reports, you may as well erase Gail’s TNA lineage because the WWE audience barely knows who she is. It seems long gone are the ticket-buyers who saw Gail face off against the likes of Lita, Trish Stratus and Molly Holly. The current audience, feeble and talent-starved, are an audience that cheer their hearts out for the likes of Maria. No offense to Maria’s fans, but she’s hardly top-tier wrestling talent. Meanwhile, the likes of Beth Phoenix and Melina have found it hard to muster the same response as their Diva Search counterparts.

It is easier, with this audience, to get over as a gormless ‘hottie with a body’ than it is to get over as a truly talented, accomplished female wrestler. So as Gail Kim makes her return to the company, it’s almost as if WWE are introducing a brand new Diva – not one that is a former Women’s Champion.

The next few months will be a test for Kim, as she must be able to win over the new crowds that fill the arenas for WWE shows. We all know that Gail Kim is incredibly sexy but will she be able to turn it on to the same degree as Maria, Candice or Kelly Kelly? Gail is a wrestler first but it seems that her impressive in-ring skills won’t be enough for to win over this audience. And that truly is a shame.

What do you think? Will Gail be able to win over the new WWE audience?

Karl Lagerfeld, is That You?

Now, I usually praise someone for doing something different and unexpected, but Maria just looks plain crazy in her new photoshoot, “Beautiful in Black”. It’s quite obvious she’s trying to appear fashionably edgy, but it looks so slapdash that I think it couldn’t be more obvious how hard she’s trying, which kind of defeats the purpose. Her hair looks like a horse’s mane, and the faces she makes only augment that, if you know what I mean. Quite honestly, she looks like she’d be more at home on that “Rock of Love” show rather than any runway, and I’m counting those cat fashion shows they hold at your local mall. Sorry, but it’s getting ridiculous at this point.

Victoria’s WrestleMania Status

3

victoria5

Rumours began circulating this past weekend that WWE had contacted Victoria to appear at WrestleMania 25 on April 5th. Despite retiring from the company just earlier this year, in January, the word is that Victoria – real name Lisa Marie Varon – is still under contract to the WWE and thus chances of her appearing are likely.

Unlike Trish Stratus or Lita, Victoria was not at the end of her contract at the time of her retirement. Her leave came amid a slew of releases, thus it is likely that she and WWE agreed upon her release as Varon had talked about retiring last year. Therefore, rather than retiring at the end of her contract, Victoria was released from the company but WWE were gracious enough to let her retire rather than the standard ‘future endeavors’ message.

Like all ex-Superstars, it is likely that Lisa has a 90 day no-compete clause which would keep her bound to the company. That 90 day clause expires just a little after WrestleMania.

Candice Pulled From WrestleMania Card

10

wm25-gailOriginal promo featuring Candice and Gail

Bad news for Candice Michelle and her fans, looks like the former Women’s Champion will miss her second WrestleMania in a row. Candice has been out of action in recent weeks with an ankle injury.

The news has come to light as a replay of Raw aired last night, which showed the promo for the Miss WrestleMania match which originally aired on Monday. In that promo featured 19 current Divas including Candice and Gail Kim. In the replay, both were pulled from the promo.

In the case of Gail Kim, it’s likely damage control as Kim’s appearance in the original promo was pretty much a spoiler. It is highly likely that she will compete at WrestleMania.

However in the case of Candice, it looks as though she won’t be ring-ready by April 5th.

Gail Kim Joins House Show Circuit

gail2

SmackDown’s newest arrival, Gail Kim has now started work for WWE on the house show circuit. Gail made her house show debut in a tag team match, teaming her with Maria against Michelle McCool and Divas Champion, Maryse.

According to one fan report from PWInsider, it looks like Gail didn’t get much of a reaction from the crowd. Such a shame. We all know that the Divas are a tough sell in the WWE, but it’s horrible to see Gail going from being a pioneer in TNA to getting no reaction in WWE.

WrestleMania Spotlight: The Bella Twins

2

bellas1

With the Divas Battle Royal at WrestleMania 25 quickly approaching, Diva Dirt has decided to take a closer look at each of the known and rumored participants in the matchup and assess their odds of winning as being High, Moderate, or Low. The winner, of course, will be crowned the first ever “Miss WrestleMania.” This is a new feature that will take place right up until the big day in Houston, TX on April 5th, 2009 and will be covered by yours truly, the “Mouth of the South,” Hassan! I will save my prediction for the winner as the very last WrestleMania Spotlight profile I do. Be sure to leave your opinion in the comments! Let’s get right into it… I present to you SmackDown Divas Nikki & Brie Bella!

Diva: Nikki Bella / Brie Bella
Real Name: Nicole Garcia / Brianna Garcia
Hometown: Scottsdale, Arizona
Birthday: November 21, 1983
Brand: SmackDown
Height: 5’6″
Weight: 125 lbs.
Finisher:
Twinster Factor aka Ring My Bella (Sit-Down Facebuster)
WWE Debut:
August 29, 2008 edition of SmackDown (Brie) and November 7, 2008 edition of SmackDown (Nikki)
Career Highlights: Made first national appearance on an episode of FOX’s Meet My Folks, Budweiser World Cup Twins, Finalists of the International Body Doubles Twin Search, appeared in music video for Atreyus’ Right Side of the Bed, tried out for the 2006 Diva Search, #1 Yahoo Search in November 2008
“Did You Know?” Fact: Known as the “Mischievous Twin,” Nicole is actively involved in saving elephants. Brie, nicknamed the “Responsible Twin,” is very environmentally conscious. The Bella Twins did not use their real last names in the WWE out of respect to ring announcer Lilian Garcia

As much as I didn’t want to do these two together, there isn’t a whole lot to talk about in regards to each one individually. They came to the WWE as a package deal and there’s no real way to talk about one without the other. Though they have only recently split up, their storylines and matches all go hand in hand with each other, so I decided I’d combine them into one. Plus, we’re running out of time here and there’s not enough days before WrestleMania to give every Diva their own day ;)

That being said, I think everyone can pretty much guess that neither of the Bella Twins are going to be crowned Miss WrestleMania. They were just put into a rather interesting storyline involving the Miz & Morrison and Carlito & Primo, plus they haven’t really been active in the Divas division or the hunt for the Divas Championship. Their primary focus at WrestleMania is going to be in the Tag Team Title Unification Match involving their respective tag teams. Both sets of tag titles will be on the line and it is pretty much a guarantee that Nikki and Brie will be at ringside, although on opposite ends. I’m sure WWE is going to put their creative focus on the Bellas with the sister vs. sister gimmick, not the Divas division. Their breakup storyline is too new for either one of them have any sort of huge impact in the Battle Royal.

The real question is if or how they are going to impact the Tag Title unification match, and I think WWE is more concerned with their role in that match than they are in the Battle Royal. It will be obvious however that the Bellas are not going to be allies in the Battle Royal as would’ve previously been the case had they not broken up. Maybe they will start out with Nikki telling Brie they should work together and then settle it at the end between themselves when they are the final two, but Nikki, being the heel, will turn on Brie and try to eliminate her. Brie will get mad and end up countering one of Nikki’s moves and eliminating Nikki from the match. Then, while she is trash talking Nikki, someone will come and eliminate her and then the Twins will point fingers and blame the other for their elimination, then scuffle outside the ring.

I’m pretty sure that’s going to be the extent of the Bella Twins’ role in the Battle Royal. Better luck next year!

The Bella Twins’ Odds of Winning On The Hassan-O-Meter: Low

SHIMMER Spotlight: MsChif

1

mschif1

You know what time it is people! Really? You don’t? Well I’ll clue you in. It’s time your weekly dose of SHIMMER goodness. Every weekend, I’ll be bringing you profiles on the hard hitting ladies of SHIMMER. Everyone from the major players like MsChif to the up and coming rookies like Ashley Lane and Portia Perez. So lets get to the good stuff, guys.

Name: MsChif

Age: Unknown

Entrance Theme: “The Pagan Swords Of Legend” by Hecate Enthroned

Associates: Cheerleader Melissa; Daffney

Finisher(s): Code Green; Desecrator; Obliterator

Accomplishments: ChickFight IV Winner; GCW Light Heavyweight Champion (1 Time); SHIMMER Women Athletes Champion (1 Time, current); Ranked #5 on the PWI Female 50

This week’s SHIMMER Spotlight is dedicated to the queen of the hill, current SHIMMER Women Athletes Champion, MsChif. The veridian maned brawler has fought her way up from obcsurity in the indies to become one of the most critically acclaimed athletes in women’s wrestling today.

Not much is known about MsChif’s life prior to her career in pro wrestling. She originally debuted in Gateway Championship Wrestling, feuding with the likes of Daizee Haze and Nikki Strychnine (which was voted the feud of the year by the promotion). She even managed to win the GCW Light Heavyweight Championship and defended it against Evan Bourne among others.

After leaving GCW, MsChif took to IWA Mid-South to make a name for herself. She rekindled her feud with Daizee Haze, while starting new ones with Mercedes Martinez and Mickie “Moose” Knuckles. As a member of IWA, MsChif picked up several titles, not all exclusive to women. But her big break came in 2005, when she joined the ranks of SHIMMER.

In MsChif’s SHIMMER debut, she took on fan favorite Cheerleader Melissa, and gained a upset victory. This match would be the catalyst to SHIMMER’s most notable feud to date. In Volume 2 of SHIMMER, MsChif lost to Beth Phoenix and during her match on Volume 3 against Lexie Fyfe, Melissa Came to ringside and distracted the diabolical mistress. The two went on to feud for the several volumes, participating in numerous SHIMMER firsts: First Hardcore Match, First Last Woman Standing Match and First Falls Count Anywhere Match. However, MsChif and Melissa made amend to take on The International Homewrecking Crew, forming a tandem known playfully by SHIMMER fans as MelisChif.

When the tournament to name the first ever SHIMMER champion was announced, MsChif was definitely a favorite to win. MsChif won her first tournament match, defeating Lexie Fyfe but lost her semi-final match to relative newcomer Sarah Stock. After a picking up a tag team win against Allison Danger and then champion, Sara Del Rey, MsChif was granted a title match against DelRey in which she became the second ever SHIMMER Champion. She has since defended her title against DelRey, as well as Mercedes Martinez and Jetta. She has also taken to defending her SHIMMER title in big brother promotion, Ring Of Honor in SHIMMER’s off season.

If I had to pick between TNA and WWE for MsChif, I would definately pick TNA where her athletic skills and unique looks would be both welcome and appreciated. However, according to Pro Wrestling Illustrated, MsChif has been named as a “must-sign” by WWE and TNA scout. Alas, only time will tell. Here’s a few vids of  ‘Your Soul’s Tormentor’ to get you familiar. Enjoy!

WrestleMania Spotlight: Katie Lea

The winner, of course, will be crowned the first ever “Miss WrestleMania.” This is a new feature that will take place right up until the big day in Houston, TX on April 5th, 2009 and will be covered by yours truly, the “Mouth of the South,” Hassan! I will save my prediction for the winner as the very last WrestleMania Spotlight profile I do. Be sure to leave your opinion in the comments! Let’s get right into it… next up is ECW Diva Katie Lea!

Diva: Katie Lea
Real Name: Katarina Waters
Hometown: Chelsea, England
Birthday: November 10, 1980
Brand: ECW
Height: 5’8″
Weight: 135 lbs.
Finisher:
Kat Nip (Whiplash Neckbreaker)
WWE Debut:
February 11, 2008 edition of Raw
Career Highlights: NWAUK Women’s Champion, Queen of Chaos Champion (France), FWA Women’s Champion (x2), TWC Women’s Champion, OVW Women’s Champion (x2), Pro Wrestling Illustrated‘s #26 of the 50 best female wrestlers of 2008
“Did You Know?” Fact: Katie Lea competed in the first ever Women’s Ladder Match in OVW, where she retained her Championship by defeating Beth Phoenix

German-born Katie Lea is without a doubt one of the WWE’s most decorated athletes. She was brought into the WWE to push a controversial incest storyline that surely pushed a lot of people’s buttons, but I personally didn’t have a problem with it. Though it was not “PG,” I thought it was something new, different, and unexpected, which for a Diva storyline to have is definitely a good thing. When she finally did enter the Women’s division, she set her sights on then-Women’s Champion Mickie James by claiming that Mickie slept her way to the top, which was a play on Mickie’s on/off screen relationship with John Cena. After a few matches with Mickie, two of which she won, Katie Lea finally got a title shot at WWE’s Night of Champions pay-per-view, where she lost the matchup to Mickie.

Though she came close to winning gold, Katie Lea suffered harsh criticism by management and fans alike for her chemistry and ring work with Mickie.  I don’t particularly think it was very fair; her matches weren’t terrible, certainly better than some of the matches we get today, and her rivalry with Mickie was the only storyline she got on Raw before being sent over with Paul Burchill to ECW on December 30, 2008.

Since things didn’t go over well with Mickie, Katie Lea became Jillian 2.0, that is, she was basically a jobber. Her move to ECW saved her career, in my opinion, since on Raw she wasn’t a title contendor  and she wasn’t standing out. I predicted she would move to SmackDown, and although she is doing decently well at standing out on ECW, frankly I still think she’d be a better fit on the blue brand. Now she is in the Land of Extreme, taking on the likes of Alicia Fox and hopefully, more Divas to come. If a suitable Divas division forms on ECW, Katie Lea would surely be one of the top Divas. However, try as she might, WWE still has her pretty much confined to both jobber and managerial status, which I think is a complete and total mistake. Do they not realize what she has accomplished and how talented she is? Katie Lea’s been in this industry since she was 18 and has earned a respectable name for herself, but WWE continues to under-utilize her and restrict her to being tormented by the likes of Hornswoggle. I like her at ringside in Paul’s matches, but I like her much better in the ring.

Though there probably isn’t a chance of her winning at all since she isn’t involved in any type of Diva storyline, I’m going to give Katie Lea the credit she deserves and not completely rule her out, because if it were based on talent, then Katie Lea would definitely have a shot of winning.

Katie Lea’s Odds of Winning On The Hassan-O-Meter: Moderate

SmackDown 5 For 500: Torrie Wilson (#1)

sd5for500

This Friday night, SmackDown celebrates it’s 500th episode! And to celebrate, Diva Dirt will be counting down the 5 Divas who we feel have made the biggest contribution to the blue brand over the years! Check back over the next five days for the results!

sd5for500_steph1. TORRIE WILSON
Length of service: 2001-2005, 2007

As our ‘5 For 500’ countdown comes to an end, who better to be #1 than the original SmackDown Diva, Torrie Wilson? When you think SmackDown, the first Diva you think of is Torrie. While Trish Stratus dominated Raw, Torrie Wilson defined SmackDown. From feuds to advertising campaigns, Torrie was everywhere during her turn as a SmackDown Diva.

Among the Diva’s highlights on SmackDown include her unforgettable feud with Dawn Marie. This soap opera storyline unfolded before our eyes every week and even Torrie’s real life dad, Al, got involved. The segments between these two were often SmackDown’s highest rated segments in 2002, outdrawing some of the show’s top stars at the time including Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker and others.

In 2003, Torrie brought sexy back when she posed for the cover of the May issue of Playboy. This signalled the return of legendary Diva, Sable – Torrie’s next high profile feud. The pair eventually teamed up in 2004, scoring a victory for the blue brand in a Playboy Evening Gown Match over Raw Divas, Miss Jackie and Stacy Keibler.

After leaving SmackDown for fresh pastures on Raw in 2005, Torrie returned in 2007 and picked up exactly where she left off – as the show’s top Diva. Torrie was eventually sidelined with injury and later retired in 2008. However, her mark has been left on SmackDown for generations to come as the Divas Championship, currently held by Maryse was originally intended for The Covergirl.

SmackDown 5 For 500: Michelle McCool (#2)

sd5for500

This Friday night, SmackDown celebrates it’s 500th episode! And to celebrate, Diva Dirt will be counting down the 5 Divas who we feel have made the biggest contribution to the blue brand over the years! Check back over the next five days for the results!

sd5for500_steph2. MICHELLE MCCOOL
Length of service: 2004 – present

Joining SmackDown following her stint in the 2004 Diva Search, Michelle McCool had many false starts on the blue brand. And it wasn’t until 2007, that fans really stood up and took notice of the All-American Diva.

Between 2004 and 2006, Michelle went through many changes: From an early wrestling start against the likes of Melina to turning heel and feuding with Ashley. But in 2007, the Diva came out of her shell and took her turn in the spotlight. As Torrie Wilson bowed out of the scene, Michelle stepped up to become SmackDown’s all around good girl.

The Diva’s ever improving wrestling skills were on display in matches against Victoria and before long, she was named SmackDown’s top Diva. From there, it was all systems go as Michelle became the first ever Divas Champion in July ’08, marking a seminal moment for the Divas – past and present – of Friday Night SmackDown.

Since losing the title to Maryse in December, Michelle has shown a new side to her personality and is now SmackDown’s resident bad girl. Despite the moodswings, Michelle continues to fly the flag for SmackDown, a brand she has now been part of five years – longer than any other Diva in the show’s history.

SmackDown 5 For 500: Dawn Marie (#3)

sd5for500

This Friday night, SmackDown celebrates it’s 500th episode! And to celebrate, Diva Dirt will be counting down the 5 Divas who we feel have made the biggest contribution to the blue brand over the years! Check back over the next five days for the results!

sd5for500_steph3. DAWN MARIE
Length of service: 2002-2005

The original SmackDown hellcat! Long before Maryse or Melina, there was Dawn Marie. No offence intended, but Dawn played ‘bitch’ to perfection as she schemed and connived her way to a three year stint on the blue brand.

Dawn Marie’s feud with SmackDown’s resident good girl, Torrie Wilson was the show’s answer to Trish and Lita. The soap opera-esque storyline between these two Divas had fans hooked as we saw all sorts of over the top drama including Dawn marrying Torrie’s dad, Al, as well as that infamous lesbian kiss!

The ECW original later set her sights on Charlie Haas, the beau of Miss Jackie.

Looking back on Dawn’s time in the WWE, she was perhaps one of the most risque Divas in history. In an artificial world of looking young and sexy, Dawn was unafraid to play the older woman – a sexy, vicious cougar – and we loved her for it!

Check back later for #2

WrestleMania Spotlight: Layla

Let’s get right into it… here is Raw Diva Layla!

Diva: Layla
Real Name: Layla El
Hometown: London, England
Birthday: June 25, 1978
Brand: Raw
Height: 5’2″
Weight: 120 lbs.
Finisher: The Layout (Spinning Roundhouse Kick)
WWE Debut: SummerSlam 2006
Career Highlights: 2006 Diva Search Winner, danced for Kanye West at the VMA’s, Miami Heat dancer, appeared in Timbaland’s Throw It On Me music video, appeared in King, Jet, FHM, Flex, Liquid, and Smooth magazines, Pro Wrestling Illustrated‘s #39 of the 50 best female wrestlers of 2008
“Did You Know?” Fact: Layla was the first Diva to be an official member of all three WWE brands

Layla has something special about her which doesn’t allow her to just fade in the background. I think this is what drew me to her in the Diva Search; she really stood out, and in a good way. I’m not a huge Diva Search fan, but I admit, I was rooting for her to win the contest and I voted for her… a lot. I don’t even think she has taken a bad photoshoot on WWE.com.

When Extreme Expose fell apart with Brooke’s release on November 1, 2008, Layla’s character got exactly what it needed: a heel turn. She’s such a good heel and plays the part so well that, to me, she’s a likeable heel, if that makes any sense. Layla really gets into the role, and you can tell just by looking at her facial expressions. Her draft to Raw put her into a role I think she does the best, a sly manager. That said, I don’t think her pairing with William Regal is a very good one. Sure, she may be the “Queen” since Regal won King of the Ring, but if her and Regal ever turned into the King Booker/ Queen Sharmell gimmick, I just might scream.

Layla should be managing someone in a more powerful spot on Raw, in my opinion, and should play a role as an arrogant “top Diva,” being deadly as both a manger and an in-ring competitor, but not a Women’s Champion just yet. It would be similar to a Stephanie McMahon kind of role; she isn’t a top wrestler, but you don’t ever want to get on her bad side.

Layla hasn’t had much training as a wrestler, but looking at her, you wouldn’t be able to tell; she looks like she’d kick serious butt in the ring. With proper training, I think Layla would definitely be a force to reckon with. Unfortunately, WWE has her pretty much stuck in this managerial position where she only gets involved in Regal’s matchups every so often. When she’s in the ring herself, it’s usually in tag team matches where she has anywhere from no time at all to about a minute to wrestle, which clearly isn’t enough to showcase her abilities. If she was in a different role my predictions would be much higher, but unfortunately, don’t expect Layla to win this thing!

Layla’s Odds of Winning On The Hassan-O-Meter: Low

Howard Finkel Blogs About Divas Night, Tiffany, And The Bella Twins

3

Following Tuesday night’s broadcast of ECW, ring announcer and Hall of Fame inductee Howard Finkel took to his blog on the WWE Universe page where he spoke about Nikki and Brie Bella splitting up as well as the upcoming Divas Night next week on ECW, which was proposed by Tiffany.

In the process of unification, we also received a case of deeper division, or a current non-case of “sisterly love” concerning the Bella Twins. Last night, there was bad blood a brewing between Brie and Nikki. They’ve made their loyalties known in the Miz/Morrison -vs- Carlito/Primo issue, but it looks as if  an apple a day (thanks to the Colons) won’t keep these two away!

Mr. Long’s lovely assistant Tiffany returned and had this idea of having a Diva’s Night for an episode of ECW. Nice thinking, Tiffany. Yes, it has never been done before, and I know it would pique my interest. By the way, I see that Tiffany will be a part of the Divas Battle Royal at WrestleMania 25. I hope she knows what she’s getting into. I mean, have you seen her in any in-ring competition yet on ECW-TV? Nope. It would be a bold way to make her WWE in-ring debut, and at the biggest event of the year, no less…..Go for it Tiff!

Again, I’m really glad that the Bella Twins have finally been split up. Their characters were way too stale and the whole dressing-alike gimmick and just standing at ringside was just making them become less and less important. Finally, those who can’t tell them apart will be able to, and if all turns out well, Nikki may even find her way onto the ECW roster as a heel while allowing Brie to stay on SmackDown as a face.

With the feud brewing between the sisters, it’s obvious that we are bound to have them feuding with each other for a good month or two and they will inevitably be in 3-on-3 tag matches (see next week’s spoilers) and at ringside when Miz & Morrison battle the Colons. They will also no doubt be at ringside at WrestleMania 25 when the two tag teams square off to see who becomes the unified Tag Team Champions. Will the Bellas play a deciding factor?

I really like that they are praising Tiffany by allowing her to have been the one to come up with Divas Night next week on ECW. (Her character is finally given some meaning!) It seems that Howard Finkel also had the same idea as me when he said that WrestleMania’s Battle Royal could be WWE’s way of planning out Tiffany’s official in-ring debut, which would allow her to become an active wrestler on ECW. It’s about time she stop doing pre-recorded backstage segments and finally enter the ring and show us what she’s got! I’m definitely looking forward to this and I’m predicting a feud brewing between her and Katie Lea or even Nikki Bella, assuming she becomes an ECW Diva by joining Miz & Morrison.

After all, this is a wrestling business and if Tiffany doesn’t hurry up and do something meaningful, she’s bound to be wished well on her future endeavors!

WrestleMania Fantasy Face-Off: Victoria vs Natalya

8

natalyavictoria

While WrestleMania’s 25 Diva battle royal might be a dream come true for some Diva fans, its a train wreck waiting to happen for most. What happened to the good ol’, one-on-one matchups. Well for the next few weeks leading up to WrestleMania, Diva Dirt will be  bringing you the  Wrestlemania dream matches that we wish would happen or might even happen in the future. Welcome to WrestleMania Fantasy Face-Off!

Match 1: Natalya(c) vs Victoria for the Divas Championship

The Setup:
After losing the match to crown the first ever Divas Champion to Michelle McCool, Natalya and Victoria decide to assert themselves as Smackdown’s top Divas. For the next few months, Natalya and Victoria blaze through the Divas division, leaving devastation in their wake. After winning several single and tag matches against The Bellas, Maria and even the champ Michelle McCool, The destructive duo are named co-#1 contenders by Smackdown GM, Vickie Guererro. After they lose both their respective matches, the two Divas beg Vickie for rematches. Vickie grants their wish and books them in a Triple Threat Match for the Divas Title. During the match, Natalya and Victoria work as a team until McCool lays Victoria out with a stiff kick and is subsequently taken out by Natalya. Natalya sees her opportunity and pins Victoria to win the belt. When approached backstage by an irate Victoria, Natalya responded: “I was just taking care of business. Nothing personal”.

The following week on Smackdown, Natalya defended her newly won title against McCool. The match ended in a DQ when Victoria attacked Michelle as she was about to pick up the win. Afterwards, The BFFs were celebrating Natalya’s title defense in the ring, when Victoria attacked Natalya and finished her off with the Widow’s Peak. The two brawling beauties feuded for the next month and a half, Victoria winning several non-title matches and tag matches with her new BFF Maryse, but losing her title match via The Sharpshooter. After pinning Natalya a non-title match, Victoria is granted a second Title Match at Wrestlemania. However, Natalya gets to choose her own stipulation. The next week, Natalya announced that the Divas title will be defended in a Title vs. Career Match. If Victoria loses, she leaves the WWE.

The Outcome:
The experienced Divas put on a wrestling clinic, the likes of which ‘Mania hasn’t seen since Moolah vs Wendi Richter. While she fought valiantly, Victoria lost after a powerbomb from the top rope. After the match, the former BFFs  put their differences, shook hands and embraced, Victoria dissolving into tears. She gave a farewell address to the fans who cheer: “Thank You, Victoria!”  Backstage, Victoria is shown walking to the locker room, where she is met by all the Divas. Hugs and tears ensue.

What If?: Angelina Love, Knockouts’ Title and SHIMMER

6

You guys ever wonder what could have been in WWE? Ever think that a few less ‘future endeavors’ would have made a difference in today’s division? Ever think of how things would be without the Diva Search? No? Well, don’t worry cause I’ve done the thinking for you. Here’s a couple of circumstances that woulda, coulda or shoulda created an alternate reality in Diva world.

What If: Angel Williams hadn’t been released from WWE?

For those who didn’t know, Angelina Love AKA Angel Williams was once contracted to WWE. She spent a while in Deep South Wrestling, feuding with the likes of Taylor Wilde, Kristal Marshall, Michelle McCool and Krissy Vaine. While in developmental, several opportunities for a call up passed her by, including JBL’s image consultant (given to Jillian) and Orlando Jordan’s valet. When WWE dropped DSW as a farm territory, Angel was shipped to OVW where she defeated Serena Deeb in her first match. She was released the next day.

I bet WWE is kicking themselves now. Angel was quickly scooped up by TNA when they started the Knockouts division and has been on a roll ever since. Changing her name to Angelina Love, she joined forces with fellow Knockout Velvet Sky to form Velvet Love Entertainment (soon changed to The Beautiful People, now known as Mi Pi Sexy) to become of the most prominent wrestlers in TNA.

Let’s face it, if Angelina had been called up to WWE she would have a fraction of the success she has in TNA. In WWE she would be lost among the the endless flood of blondes. I could see her jobbing out constanly  (a la Jillian), before finally getting released and picked up by TNA anyway. WWE just helped her cut out the middle man.

Jacqueline’s 12 Year Career Comes to End

6

Sad news on the Knockout front: TNA is fading Jacqueline away from an onscreen role, ending her 12 year career in the major leagues of wrestling.

Since 1997, Jacqueline has managed to stay in the forefront of America’s biggest promotions – from WCW to WWE to TNA. Her shocking longevity only struck me a few days ago, admist speculation as to why she wasn’t present at the Destination X pay per view last Sunday. It’s true to say that Jacqueline’s run is unprecedented considering the average length of a female wrestler’s career.

Not to panic though! Jacqueline hasn’t been fired. As TNA moves her away from television, she will take up the role of agent for the Knockouts division, keeping her in the fold of the company and women’s wrestling for years to come hopefully.

Jacqueline is a former two time Women’s Champion as well as Cruiserweight Champion. Her first Women’s Championship reign ushered in the Women’s Championship that we know today, currently held by Melina.

May I take this time to congratulate Jackie on her amazing career, she truly deserves a round of applause.

In a tribute to her career, we’ll be counting down Jacqueline’s top five matches as voted for by you. Details after the cut.

Saylor James Speaks to Diva Dirt on Her FCW Status

Last week, we reported that FCW Diva, Saylor James was canned by WWE after getting tattos without permission from management. When reached for comment, Saylor – real name Catalina White – told Diva Dirt the following:

I am currently on a hiatus from the WWE pursuing other projects such as a film and recording an album!

We’ll let you decide what to make of that.

Knockouts Drama: Rhaka Khan Gives Roxxi Black Eye

6

All this focus on the Divas, we’ve missed some good ole fashioned DR-AMA among the TNA Knockouts! Word has it that Knockouts, Rhaka Khan and Roxxi got into a physical altercation that resulted in Rhaka giving Roxxi a black eye.

There’s conflicting reports about how the situation happened, whether it was backstage or Rhaka stiffing Roxxi in a matchup. But needless to say, there is some bad blood between these two Knockouts.

Furthermore, Rhaka is said to be disliked among her peers in TNA. The feeling is that she has a holier-than-thou attitude and a bad attitude altogether. This coupled with her crappy in-ring skills and a reluctance to improve and get better as a worker, seals the deal.

However, Khan is TNA’s answer to Michelle McCool – only less talented. The Knockout has some backstage stroke as she is dating Kurt Angle, one of the key players in the company.

It’s always the sucky wrestlers that are the biggest primadonnas…

We’re All Mad Here

12

With NCAA March Madness kicking off today, the Divas donned jerseys of their favorite teams (but really just the ones with the prettiest colors) and posed for a photoshoot that WWE.com is calling “March Madness: Round One”, which leads me to believe there’s more to come from the Divas we don’t see here. Some of them mix it up, posing with basketballs and hanging on the hoop (gee, Layla must be tall!). Though, it’s (not) interesting to see how they manage to (not) mix up the requisite long jersey-and-booty shorts combo. Kudos to Beth Phoenix and Natalya for breaking the trend. And for the girls appearing to be not wearing any shorts at all (Alicia, Rosa), you need to fix that. You know that ain’t sanitary – you don’t know where that basketball’s been. Mostly, this photoshoot is interesting to see what Divas went with what school – (*cough*Yay Michelle!!*cough*), and it was a fun challenge for me to try and remember the mascots for each school in order to fill out the poll below. Let’s just say I did pretty well. ;) Oh, and for shit and giggles, feel free to check out my March Madness bracket. It’s sure to fully demonstrate my bias and thus be entirely useless.

FCW Recap: March 12, 2009

fcw

This past week, FCW held another one of its weekly events for our future Divas. The night’s main event saw a 3-on-3 tag team match involving Rosa Mendes, Kaleb O’Neal, and Lawrence Knight taking on the team of Angela, Sweet Papi Sanchez, and Eric Escobar.

Jenny Cash’s Gossip Segment

• • • • •

3-on-3 Tag Match

Although the match looked promising since it was the main event, it was nothing spectacular like we had seen in the Queen of FCW Tournament. The battle over that plastic crown continued between Angela and Rosa, where Angela tried to get her crown back from Rosa, and when she did, Rosa ended up crying. The Divas were only in action for a minute and a half at the most, which was simply Angela dominating Rosa who ran and tagged out. The end of the match, however, saw a great move by Angela who did a Lou Thesz press from a Poetry In Motion type leap onto Rosa to push her out the ring. All in all, it was a pretty bland match. I had my hopes up to see Rosa in action since she will be participating in the Divas Battle Royal at WrestleMania 25, but Rosa literally had no offense and did nothing but take a beating and run to her corner and cry over the crown.

I guess it furthered the storyline down in FCW, but all it really did was give Jenny Cash something else to talk about, and that’s not a good thing. Jenny really makes me laugh, but it’s not an amused laugh. It’s more of a “why in the world is this girl talking?” She looks like the Octo-mom and her little segment seems so forced and fake. I’m all up for the gossip segment, but take some acting classes or something… cha ching!

Vince Hearts Maryse

4

Vince praising a Diva’s work? Pssshaw! Well in a rarity, Vince McMahon is said to be “high” on Divas Champ, Maryse at the moment. Nice to see Vince seeing eye to eye with the fans for once, there’s a lot of love for Maryse among Diva fans and rightfully so. She’s really come out of nowhere and become a top Diva.

That said, her work in the ring since returning from her injury hasn’t been as impressive. Step up your game, Maryse!

WrestleMania Spotlight: Tiffany

8

Let’s get right into it… first up is ECW Diva Tiffany!

Diva: Tiffany
Real Name: Taryn Terrell
Hometown: New Orleans, Louisiana
Birthday: December 28, 1985
Brand: ECW
Height: 5’6″
Weight: 125 lbs.
Finisher: Hot Body (Second-rope Crossbody)
WWE Debut: June 10, 2008 edition of ECW
Career Highlights: 2007 Diva Search Top 8 Finalist, Assistant to ECW General Manager Teddy Long, Playboy covergirl
“Did You Know?” Fact: Tiffany is a power-lifter and started her high school’s first all-female power-lifting team

Though WrestleMania 25 will be Tiffany’s first official WWE match (the 16-diva tag match on Raw doesn’t really count…), don’t underestimate the newcomer. She has been practicing hard since she earned a developmental contract back in February of 2008. As a member of FCW’s roster, she doubles as both a ring announcer and a wrestler, where she has beaten the likes of such Divas as Wesley Holliday in singles matches as well as Rosa Mendes and Alicia Fox in tag team action.

However, her status as a newcomer will definitely factor against her. While she is learning rapidly, she still is not as polished a wrestler as other members of the Divas roster. Aside from this, she isn’t really involved in any kind of storyline at the moment other than being Teddy Long’s assistant, so there’s no real reason the Creative Team has to let her win unless they want to pull out a huge upset, which I just don’t see happening. She is my hometown girl and fellow classmate (which is why I did her first), but I don’t expect her to have a huge role in this match, although I don’t think she’ll be the first to be eliminated. Maybe she’ll eliminate Katie Lea or something! One thing that may come of this is that Tiffany may finally become a regular, active wrestler on ECW and not just participate in backstage segments since it seems that the Divas roster on ECW is finally growing.

Tiffany’s Odds of Winning On The Hassan-O-Meter: Low

Is Beth.. Smiling?

7

Beth Phoenix is showing more enthusiasm than we may have ever seen out of her in her new photoshoot, “Brilliant Blonde”. It’s great to see a different side of her, and I’m digging her outfit, but it’s a little cheesy for someone like Beth, especially since she’s always so serious, playing the straight man to Santino’s goofball. Like Melanie said to me, she looks like she’s in a Ellen Dengeres promo shot. Hm.. Now there’s an idea – a Beth Phoenix talk show! Hey, her “Santino’s Casa” stint went over pretty well.. Okay, so maybe not, but at least we know she’d produce some killer promo shots.

SmackDown Spoilers: March 27, 2009

Below are spoilers for the March 27th episode of SmackDown. Looks like the Divas won’t be part of SmackDown’s big 500th.

– The Colons & Brie Bella def. Miz, Morrison & Nikki Bella

Maryse and Michelle McCool fought to a no contest in a Divas Championship match when Gail Kim interrupted. Gail hit Michelle with a missile dropkick from the top rope before attacking Maryse.
