Team Lay-Cool, SmackDown’s answer to Mean Girls, are said to be very popular amongst WWE management who are ‘pleased’ with how the duo’s gimmick has developed, reports Wrestling Observer. Dave Meltzer writes: The creative team is really happy with “Lay-Cool,” because there were people mad about the idea that TNA had created the Beautiful People … Read more

NXT Lay-Kav-Ool Watch (June 8th, 2010): A Bombastic Impact, Lay-Cool Style

Shockwaves reverberated throughout the internet wrestling community last week when the WWE made the announcement that Smackdown starlets and the self proclaimed, co-Women’s Champions, Layla and Michelle McCool, would be involved on the next season of it’s rookie competition show, NXT. Instead of getting stuck with a nobody, or getting a chance to work with a second or third generation star, the two vivacious divas were paired off with former indy star, TNA star, and ROH stand-out Low-Ki, known to all of us as Kaval. So much butt hurt was expressed over this pairing by so-called “journalists” and “experts” and yes, I just used the term “butt hurt.” It was incredibly ridiculous and extremely disrespectful to the two women who have worked their asses off to make it in the WWE. Lets face it, the Divas division is horribly managed and the girls aren’t given a fair chance. But the comedic pairing of McCool and Layla is totally gold and they’ve managed to make enough of an impression to get a chance to “mentor” a “rookie.”

I do realize I’m using a lot of quotation marks, but we all know NXT is a scripted show with a predetermined outcome. None of the pros can teach the rookies anything they don’t already know except for how to handle the pressure of the schedule, how to manage their backstage attitudes, ect. That’s why it baffles me that so many people were horrified over this pairing. If anything, they should bow to Kaval for the simple fact that he now gets to hang out with two of the hottest divas on the roster. Heck, I’m jealous and I don’t even go that way! The storyline possibilities for these three are endless. There’s so much the WWE can do with it. I’m excited about NXT! Are you?!

This past week on the Post Raw Show, I unsuccessfully attempted to articulate my hopes and ideas for this Laycool/Kaval angle. I’m certainly not the most eloquent speaker on the Diva Dirt staff but I can certainly write my ideas down! What I want to see from this pairing is total domination by Laycool. Kaval seems like a straight-laced, no nonsense type of personality who likes for his wrestling to do the speaking for him. Laycool is funny, mean, out there, and totally fierce. They need to overwhelm this poor guy and do their best to make him into their minion so to speak. I don’t really like that adjective, but it works and it’s a nicer way of saying they should make Kaval their bitch. Of course I don’t expect him to just conform to their needs. He should absolutely not do anything they want and what could unfold is so many funny, entertaining segments of back and forth, married couple bickering. Someone has to stand up to Laycool one of these days and why not their pro despite the fact Michelle towers over him?

The WWE likes to bill itself as an entertainment show and I hope they can deliver. If they go down the route of Kaval rebelling against Laycool, it could lead to problems between the girls about how they should go about approaching him. They could start bickering, Kaval could be forced into the role of peacekeeper, and this can carry over to Smackdown. I love this and I was so happy when I was asked to recap these NXT shows. My enthusiasm shows, doesn’t it?

Anyway, I guess you guys are waiting on me to get into the good stuff so without further ado, lets find out who Lay-Kav-Ool’s competition will be for this upcoming season.

Excerpts from Trish’s ‘Wrestler’ Interview: Says Melina is ‘Next Trish’

As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, 7-time Women’s Champion Trish Stratus is on the cover of the latest issue of The Wrestler Magazine [on newsstands today]. Pro Wrestling Illustrated, the sister magazine of ‘Wrestler’, has posted some excerpts from the interview on their official blog.

The interview was apparently 90 minutes long and from what I understand, the piece spans over 16 pages in the magazine. Read the quotes below:

On her relationship with T&A, Test and Albert: “Test was really adamant on making me earn his respect. He didn’t want to give me too much credit and made sure I knew it when I made a mistake. Albert would tell me not to worry and that I was a fine. It was a good mix. Test would say I sucked, and that I’d have to improve.”

On her willingness to take bumps: “I guess everyone realized I was a team player when I would take a chokeslam from Kane, I was cool with getting the stinkface, and I didn’t mind getting tossed over the top rope by The Big Show.”

On the “Bark Like A Dog” segment with Vince McMahon: “People think I must have felt humiliated. Are you kidding? Look at the result. I was simply an actress doing a part which allowed me to show emotion—that’s a good thing”

On the inspiration of The Rock: “I had to have surgery. It was the worst thing that could happen. But that allowed me to sit back and study matches. I watched a lot of The Rock’s stuff, and thought, There are no girls doing what he’s doing—why not, maybe I could be the female version of The Rock.”

Raw Redux (June 7th, 2010): So Much Time, So Little Divas

Tonight’s Raw, being billed as a 3-hour, “viewer’s choice” show featuring wrestlers from both Raw and Smackdown, was destined to be a little cluttered, given how many elements were in the mix. Unfortunately, very little of that mixture consisted of Divas. In the whole span of three hours, the Divas (all 12 of them) took up about 4 minutes of time. That’s a “needle in a haystack” situation if I’ve ever seen one. But, there’s always hope that they make the most of the little time they were given. Did they? Let’s see..

The stipulation of the Divas match was, like the rest of the matches, determined the fans’ vote. The choices were either: a 6-on-6 Tag Team match, a battle royal, or a champion vs. champion match, which would pit Eve vs. Layla. The fans picked the battle royal, and I’m sure the WWE were glad for that (if the vote wasn’t rigged, which it probably was) because that means MORE DIVAS!!!~~~~~. Nothing can ever go wrong with fitting as many Divas as possible into a 4-minute slot, amiright?:

We start with the 64 12 Divas in the ring, and they all more or less pair off. A double-team by Brie and Nikki Bella sends Rosa Mendes flying out of the ring. Sucks for her, but it’s better than when she practically threw herself out of the ring in the last battle royal. Tiffany is eliminated next, falling from the top turnbuckle while pummeling Michelle McCool. Kelly Kelly gets knocked off the ring apron by Michelle while trading blows with Layla.

Gail Kim and Alicia Fox eliminate each other while tussling on top of the ropes, a modified hurricanrana taking out both the deliverer and the recipient. Michelle and Layla stop a Bella Twins attack on Maryse and eliminate the both of them with tandem dropkicks. Eve attacks Laycool, fighting valiantly and hitting some impressive spots before eliminating the both of them by shoving Layla into Michelle, causing them to slip through the middle rope.

Diva Dirt Style Jury: Week of May 31st, 2010

Divas beware, we judge what you wear! Welcome to the Diva Dirt Style Jury. We compile the looks from the week gone by and mark each look on a scale of 1-10. At the end of the scoring, we work out the combined score for each look and the Diva with the highest combined score is our winner and the Diva with the lowest combined score is our loser.

A few rules: We only judge outfits/ring attire that we haven’t judged before or we have already seen several times on TV before. If a Diva is seen in more than one outfit in any given week, we mark them as ‘#1’, ‘#2’ and so forth.

So, let the proverbial runway show begin!

ALICIA FOX
Cryssi: Foxy had a big night this past Monday and she picked a cute little outfit to go with it. We’ve seen Alicia in rompers basically every single time she hasn’t been in wrestling gear as of late. I’m at the point now where I want her to change it up. Her look is getting to be a big repeat of the same thing, only with different colors and prints. That said, this is my favorite romper of Alicia’s to date. I love the print and the way it fits. It’s flirty and sassy, perfect for Alicia. The boots are great too. Another nice week for Alicia. 8/10
Erin: I usually love Alicia’s little rompers, but, as I’ve probably said many times, all-over animal print is not my thing. It’s just too much going on in such a small space, with the mixing of prints and one-piece aesthetic. I much prefer when Alicia keeps it cuter. 5/10
Melanie: We all love Alicia’s rompers here at DD and this one is no exception for me. I’m not usually a huge fan of animal print but when done differently and ‘edgy’, I think it looks good. Alicia did wear something different and more edgy than the usual pants-and-top look, so I like it. 6/10

EVE TORRES
Cryssi: Eve is starting to bore me with her fashion but this look is better than the ones she’s had recently. The nice pinkish coral color really compliments her skin tone and her hair looks pretty this week too. Eve has what I like to call gypsy-like hair. It looks pretty when it’s straight and looks gorgeous when it’s wild and curly. Eve did well this week. 6.5/10
Erin: The peachy-pink color is cute and a different way to pull off the girly look. It pops a lot better than some of the other variations on Eve’s attire, and she wears the color really well. It mixes her tomboy personality and her lesser-seen girly side in an interesting way. 7/10
Melanie: I don’t like this colour at all on Eve. I don’t know why, but the colour just seems so sickly and especially against someone who is tanned like Eve. 4/10

Read on for more of this week’s outfits and to see who’s been branded our winner and loser.

NCW Femmes Fatales 3 Taping Results: LuFisto, Daffney Return to the Ring

NCW Femmes Fatales returned to action last night in Montreal to film the third volume in its DVD series. The taping saw the in-ring returns of SHIMMER’s LuFisto and TNA Knockout, Daffney for the first time since their respective hiatuses.

LuFisto, who is also the founder of Femmes Fatales, competed in her first match since suffering a stroke in April, against Sara Del Rey. Meanwhile, this was Daffney’s first match back since that now infamous dark match with new Knockout, Rosie Lottalove at an Impact taping in April. Daffney suffered a bruised sternum and was only recently cleared to wrestle as announced by TNA President, Dixie Carter.

Full results from last night’s show below courtesy of reader John Hyperion:

Pre-Show
* Angie Skye def. Missy. Short match, but both of these women came across as very solid in the ring, especially for pre-show. Angie Skye has about the best gear ever to boot.

* Kira & Moonlight def. Segolene & Eve. Moonlight looks like Tomoka Nakagawa’s Canadian twin, and wrestles a bit like it too.

Main Show
1. Portia Perez (w/ Nicole Matthews) def. PJ Tyler with a handful of tights. Portia Perez started off the show by legit making a little boy in the front row cry. Outstanding.

2. Xandra Bale & Kacey Brooks def. Anastasia Ivy & Evilyn Fox with double Tornado DDTs. Xandra Bale can really, really go. I’d expect any fans of Shantelle Taylor/Taylor Wilde would get a kick out of her demeanor and athleticism.

3. Anna Minnoushika (w/ Madmoiselle Rachelle) def. Sabrina Kyle via SMASHING. Anna has an awesome faux white tiger skin ring jacket, which somehow managed to add to how intimidating she is.
