It’s been made official, Raquel Gonzalez has signed the contract and Io Shirai has her opponent for the next TakeOver event. Stand & Deliver will lead us into WrestleMania as it will take place over the course of two nights April 7 & April 8. This NXT Women’s Championship match will take place on night one.
On the March 10 episode of NXT, Shirai approached Gonzalez after her loss alongside Dakota Kai as the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. After defeating Toni Storm that same night, Shirai was looking for her next opponent. She ran right into Gonzalez and confronted her.
This match has been an idea for quite some time. Gonzalez pinned Shirai in the last WarGames match that took place in December. Since then, Gonzalez took out Rhea Ripley in a Last Woman Standing match.
Could this be Raquel’s time to lead the division? Do you think we will have a new NXT Women’s Champion just around the corner? Discuss in the comments!
This week’s NXT certainly had a rollercoaster of emotions. The storytelling was there, the action was there, but when it came to Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez getting the win it wasn’t in their favor. What caused them to lose however was controversial in nature. Kai went to sleep as she was locked into Baszler’s Kirifuda Clutch which led to the call for the match. However, Kai wasn’t the legal competitor.
Prior to this decision, Gonzalez tagged into the match. She then took out Jax who was on the ring apron but at the same time knocked the official (Aja Smith) down. With the referee unresponsive, the two went launching over the announce table leaving Baszler and Kai in the ring.
With the referee still down, Adam Pearce shows up with a RAW referee in tow to finish the match. That official, Shawn Bennett, then calls for the bell with Kai locked in the Kirifuda Clutch.
I am grateful to have had you at the ready when @RefAjaWWE unfortunately went down. Don’t listen to the vitriol, Shawn. You called the action in front of you and none of us can ask any more than that. Total respect to the four incredible women in that battle! #WWENXThttps://t.co/wdA0mEq90z
Because of this controversy, General Manager William Regal and Pearce were seen arguing later on in a conference room. Afterward, Regal made a big statement that he will be making an announcement on next week’s NXT that will change the landscape of the brand. What could this mean?!?!
What did you think of this match result? Do you think Gonzalez & Kai will end up getting a rematch? What is Regal going to announce? Leave your thoughts below.

Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez went into tonight’s NXT as the odds on favorite to win their semi-final match against Team Ninja (Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter). Kai & Gonzalez did just that as they defeated Team Ninja to advance into the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Team Ninja’s grit and determination is never questioned, however, it was not quite enough. Highlights of the match include Carter showing off her great athleticism until she was taken out by Gonzalez who hurled her into the announce table.
Catanzaro then showed her fearlessness as she jumped from the ring apron to Gonzalez’s back and then used it as a ramp to climb up a ringside light structure. She then hit a crossbody off the structure to take down her opponents. At the end of the match, Gonzalez decimated Catanzaro with a vicious power slam that allowed her to get the pin and the win.
Kai and Gonzalez will face the winners of the other semi-final match between Indi Hartwell & Candice LeRae and Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon. The final match will take place at the next TakeOver event named Vengeance Day on Feb. 14.
The upcoming TakeOver event will host a huge Triple Threat Match for the NXT Women’s Title. One of the competitors in that match, Toni Storm, took on Jessi Kamea on this week’s show.
Kamea was joined by the Robert Stone Brand so it seems as though she has transitioned into it after their loss in the Dusty Classic. The match didn’t last long and Storm won by disqualification as her upcoming opponents Mercedes Martinez and NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai interfered. Shirai took her time as her challengers took each other apart before delivering a moonsault. The segment ended with her holding up her title to exert her dominance.
NXT also aired an origin story of Tian Sha. This is the warrior that leads and trained Xia Li and Boa. In this it explains she is thousands of years old. You can view it below.
