Asuka has met every challenger with a ferocious intensity that hasn’t been seen in NXT ever. She has now met 176 wins, according to Cageside Seats, in her more than 414 day reign as NXT Women’s Champion.

Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot, meanwhile, were in a war with each other that spilled into the title scene as soon as Asuka made her presence known to prove there is no number one contender for her title, there is no one that can end her reign. She even went as far as cheating to retain her title against Ember Moon at TakeOver: Orlando several months ago.

Tonight at TakeOver: Chicago Asuka outlasted Nikki and Ruby to retain the championship.

Things were chaotic early as Nikki and Ruby took turns coming at Asuka. Ruby would sustain the longest against Asuka as they clashed. Several times, however, Nikki would barge in and take out Asuka. She’d come for Ruby again and again.

Asuka forcefully broke them up before coming face to face with a ruthless Nikki who tripped her up in the ring apron.

Nikki focused her energy on taking out Asuka, performing an avalanche neckbreaker that stunned Asuka.

Nikki and Ruby would then team up to eliminate Asuka from the ring so they could focus on each other. They’d take each other out and Asuka would capitalize on the destruction as Ruby looked to win the championship. A shining wizard would knock Ruby out and Asuka would pin Ruby and Nikki to retain the NXT Women’s Championship.

During the match a dejected Ember would watch from the sidelines, indicating that she’s coming for Asuka.

What did you think of tonight’s outcome? Sound off in the comments below.

Boring & predictable , I honestly don’t kno what happened to nxt since the 4 horse women got called up , but this is just ?????Just start building other talent already .

    • A?.

Honestly. Takeover used to be exciting and unpredictable, but know we all know the result and there’s no emotion for it, at least for me.

  • Yet another two women buried just so they can prolong this unnecessary streak that helps no one BUT Asuka.

Ruby and Nikki had a perfect story going on between themselves, only to be forced into this match just so Asuka could stop their momentum.

Even if Ember manages to beat Asuka, it won’t matter because Asuka managed to kill all of her future competition.

    • 3???????

Exactly why I’m ready for new talent . They managed to make me not care about the ones askua already beat

      • They’ve had 400+ days to build up someone and here we are with Asuka still on top for no reason. Being undefeated defeats the purpose of developmental.

    • Jesus’s brother

Buried? Lol you guys don’t know what a buried or a jobber superstar is lool

      • The rest of the women’s division is what it is.

        • Jesus’s brother

Ruby, Ember and Nikki are not being buried like you said! Asuka and them are the 4 top stars (main attractions of the division)

          • If they aren’t then why does everyone keep saying that nobody is ready for Asuka? I thought they were all stars? If i asked you who’s ready to beat her or be called up you wouldn’t say them, which gives answer to my question.

    • Wrestling.fan.from.France

Do you know what bury means? Legit question because this isn’t the case. Crazy how wrestling fans love to use big words for nothing tbh…

      • I know exactly what it means. If I were to ask you who should beat Asuka, or who is ready for a call up, these two wouldn’t be the answer.

      • howie_ruhl

“Wrestling fans” when in truth they’re just fans of one or two of the girls and they want to conceal that in the guise of “equal opportunity.” But once their faves start getting similar treatments, they’ll bend heaven and earth to defend it.

        • Wrestling.fan.from.France

          Couldn’t agree more.

  • 3???????

I remember watchin nxt and my heart racing during matches . Because two things you can count on , a match that would give you goosebumps , and a satisfied ending

    • Maddox

Same thing happened in the Dunne/Bate match

  • Moz za

    Let see

  • Womensor

Weird final. It seems like the ref starts the count too soon.
    Still, pretty cool match.

  • Asuka’s title and Asuka’s division. I really thought Nikki would win.

    • Womensor

Yeah, some near falls from all competitors. People were behind Ruby more than Asuka.

  • MafiaMM

Are they trying to make Asuka the next Moolah? Is she going to be NXT Women’s Champion for the next 30 Years?

    • Womensor

      LOOL!

  • Don ?

It was an exciting match and all three women did amazing! I was entertained so I have no complaints. ?

    • Joseph

      I agree.

  • Shan

LOL! No one is ready for Asuka!

  • GOD STRATUS•

Asuka the empress of tomorrow. She really is everything I swear… However I can’t wait for her to put over ember. Should be another classic from them. But for now. Long may she reign…..

Those other two just aren’t ready

  • Uncharted4GOTD

Asuka is coming for records, she will surpass Trish’s longest reign of 448 days as Women’s champion. (of course it’s a different championship, but it’s still pretty interesting.) What I like is how Asuka is being built as unstoppable, however it is clear she will have her downfall. Sometimes feuds need to be predictable or you get some weird curve that makes no sense like Eve’s 2nd title win. Excited to see the Sun vs the Moon again.

    • Lushluke

Hun longest reign is 30 years moolah not trish

      • James Winters

There are a lot of reigns during that 30 years that wwe doesn’t recognize. Moolah didn’t really have the belt for 30 years straight she lost it a few times, the WWE just decided not to recognize any during that time.

        • Lushluke

30 year champ no one can beat that hence why it’s multiple reigns instead of length, apart from diva title

  • Laquane Anderson

    Meh.

  • A?.

Lame build up, lame ending. Been like that ever since Asuka won the title. All her matches are predictable, wake me up when the nightmare ends. http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lp1i6kiuH61qaryr9o1_500.gif

  • Bryskers

Dang, the women who will finally beat Asuka is gonna get one hell of a rub!

  • Wicked Bliss

Too early for Nikki and Ruby so I was expecting Asuka to retain. Only Ember is established enough to beat Asuka.

  • Crazy. #RIPMae

This match was so boring to me. The only interesting thing was when Asuka was trapped under the apron cover and Nikki started to hit on her. And on top of that, a dead crowd didn’t make this any better. Oh, how could I forget? Asuka and another anticlimactic ending which made no sense at all.

    • Wicked Bliss

You loved Nia vs Dana but not this? Lol

      • Lushluke

        ????

      • Summer_Slay #RespectTheDivas

IKR this is like saying that Alexa Bliss can put a solid match ?????

      • Crazy. #RIPMae

Dana vs Nia was a good match for the time given. And unlike Asuka, Ruby and Nikki, I didn’t have high expectations for them to put on a show stealer match. I expected Nikki, Asuka and Ruby to give us an iconic, legendary match but yet this match was filled with miscommunications and boring moments. The crowd was also dead for this match so yes, I loved Dana vs Nia.

        • Wicked Bliss

Oh so you’re saying that Dana vs Nia is fast paced action packed match compared to boring TO match? Okay maybe we just like different type of matches. No disrespect to Nia and Dana i loved their match but I’m not sure if I get why you like Nia vs Dana compared to this TO match.

          • Crazy. #RIPMae

Uh, because Dana vs Nia was more entertaining to me. Ruby vs Asuka vs Nikki had better wrestling obvious but I didn’t quite like the match. Maybe the match was boring due to the lack of story or because it was obvious that it was a throwaway match until Asuka faces Ember again but I didn’t like the match.

          • Wicked Bliss

Hmmm so Nia vs Dana has an actual feud and their story was well built? Okay I’ll stop. Its your opinion.

          • Crazy. #RIPMae

It’s a Main Event match… stop acting like it’s a PPV match or special match like Asuka vs others. Main Event doesn’t have any storyline continuation on the show these days.

  • Wicked Bliss

You can complain all you want but the match was really great. There are couple of times I thought Asuka will lose. You cannot see this type of match is MR these days (thanks to Alexa lol) I also keep on complaining Asuka needs to drop the title but whenever she’s in the ring she reminds me that she’s the best and she really is. And no one is ready for Asuka.

  • Neutral

I live for how the Queen got yall pressed, she is the best, she is the champion, and your fave is not, just accept it.

  • ?K . A . T ?

I loved this match it was sooo good!! I really thought Nikki was going to win! She was kicking Asuka’s arse!! I love how pressed the empress has all of y’all, “the ending was boring and anticlimactic” did y’all actually watch or? Because Ruby looked like she was about to win before Asuka came in and stole the win and their were several times where Nikki had Asuka beat plain and simple. Y’all don’t realise how good of a heel Asuka is, she’s drawing you in and making you desperate to see someone beat her. Ruby & Nikki looked great against her tonight and to me they feel like stars now especially Nikki. Now onwards to Ember/Asuka!!

    • Pedro Miranda

Exactly she is doing great work and her long reign is proof that the higher ups are big on her regardless of what you smarks say.

      • ?K . A . T ?

        Exactly!!

        • Pedro Miranda

Per Triple H: Regarding Asuka remaining undefeated, Cathy wonders if there’s anyone in NXT that can beat her and if it’s time for her to face the women of RAW and SmackDown. Triple H says to take NXT out of it and wonder if there’s anyone at all that can challenge her. He’s not sure if anyone has come close. He mentions names like Ruby Riot, Nikki Cross or Ember Moon, or somebody new coming in, and Becky Lynch or Naomi, or Alexa Bliss, Bayley, Sasha Banks or Charlotte Flair as the one to stop Asuka but when he looks at those names, he’s not sure who can stop Asuka. He says Asuka has everything and brings something to the table that very few bring. He finds it hard to see anyone stopping her but that’s what this is all about – who can do it, that becomes the question. Triple H says you can love Asuka or hate her but nobody is touching her right now.

          • ?K . A . T ?

Sounds like he might be considering moving her up!!

Please.. Asuka vs Io Shirai vs Kairi Hojo before Asuka’s main roster callup

    • Sweetie, Ruby had to break the pin herself so Asuka could do her move, what was good about that? Asuka ain’t no good heel either, it’s natural that people want someone NEW after 400+ days.

    • A?.

“Now onwards to Ember/Asuka!” Didn’t y’all say the same shit last month? How did that end up? Because as far as I’m concerned that feud got built up three weeks before Takeover and it was nothing but basic, but now Ember is out for six months so, yay exciting!

  • ralfikh

Correct me if im wrong. So far Peyton , Ember & Nikki has face Asuka the most for the title right? Hopefully 1 of them will dethrone her. So many women will get the benefit if new champion is crown. Asuka great but we need fresh feuds & storylines.

  • Camila #IconicDuo

I thought Nikki would win. Best Asuka’s takeover match since London

Now it’s time to Ember destroy Asuka and become champion

  • Drew Lytle

Wasn’t great but it did come close. It’s hard to follow what is without question one if the best matches this year period. Also people don’t realize that Triple threats are actually really tricky to pull off well, what hurt this match was the usual pitfalls of triple threat bouts which is one wrestler resting on the outside and essentially taking turns, which is what happens here and it did step the match down. And to those saying this is lifeless, sorry your not liking this but clearly every person in that arena that night was on fire for every match, including this one and the Takeover event is getting 9/10 ratings with this match at an average ***1/2 out of *****, could be better but it’s far from terrible or even bad. The match was really good, the event was amazing, Asuka now goes on to face Moon at Brooklyn and I’m honestly happy with that, so are a lot of other people from the reviews and the live audience.

    • But Ember is gonna be out of action for 6 months!

      • Drew Lytle

No she’s not, it was announced she just needed about 5 to 6 weeks and it was a level 1 sprain.

      • Michael Burmeister

That “6 months” thing is likely kayfabe…part of the storyline where she shockingly comes back early and faces Asuka at Brooklyn…

  • BitchFit

NO BUD-DEE IS REDDI FOR ASUKA!!!

How long will this shirt last as it said
    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DAUnYS6WsAYqev3.jpg

    • Pedro Miranda

I think its a sweet ass shirt regardless.

  • I thought it was a good match. However, the only problem I had and it’s the problem I’ve had with Nikki in particular, Asuka and Ruby were guilty of this too, but they telegraphed their moves too much or were slow to the spot so there was a bit of a pacing issue where you could tell what may happen next. That being said, watching Nikki beat Asuka’s ass, and seeing Asuka vulnerable, I’m not sure how I felt about it. I’m so used to see her pretty much have her way with her opponents, and to see them kick her ass felt weird. For me, Ruby Riot, you the real MVP. I don’t really follow the independent scene so I didn’t really know what she can bring, but she did very well. I’m glad my Queen Asuka won, I know people are tired of her winning, but she’s a beast and I enjoy her work.

  • Tunasha

Considering they were the follow up to the match of the night they did awesome! I loved the match, so far the best of the year from the NXT women.

  • Diva_Fan

Really great match I enjoyed it both Nikki and Ruby put on a good showing I can see both of them being future stars in NXT/WWE . I think some of you are just moaning about the match because Asuka won yet again but let’s be honest that was inevitable. I can only see Asuka either losing to Ember when she’s fully recovered or just retire the title and go on to the Main Roster undefeated.

  • Wrestling.fan.from.France
    • Maddox

Looks like she is manhandling Bayley in both gifs lol

    • So if nobody is ready, how aren’t they buried?

      • Wrestling.fan.from.France

Then you truly don’t know what it means…

        • See, you don’t have an answer, therefore it’s true.

          • Wrestling.fan.from.France

Since your logic is “If nobody is ready, they are buried”, then that’s the sole answer you can get. Learn about the definition and then we’ll talk. Thank you.

          • I know exactly what it is, which is why I typed it. They have girls who are ready but have lost their momentum. Simple as that

    • Bryskers

She pinned them both, truly a legend.

  • #Lasskicker

Was messy tbh.. come at me!

  • Gabriella Panajotova

The match was great. Ruby is really becoming my new fave

  • Booking 101

It was a good match. Nothing that set the world on fire but good nonethless. It was a “had it’s moments” sort of match. Some great stuff in there but there were also some communication issues that led to some messy things, nothing to problematic.

For me Ruby stood out in this match. The girl is really good and she has some great energy and intensity. I really like the work she is doing. Nikki also did a fine job although I enjoyed her performance on San Antonio more. Asuka was her usual self, nothing new here. Overall, it was a good showing.

And that is what Asuka’s reign has consisted of. Good to great showing with not to exciting stories. Because I like to be critical of Asuka’s matches in WWE but she has had some good to great matches, they just haven’t reached the level I thought they could reach. This one is just another example. Asuka’s matches haven’t stood out in any Takeover. This Takeover is just another example of.

I usually say that I’m curious to see what’s next but I haven’t been curious in anything in the women’s divison in NXT in quite some time. Despite the good matches and the occasional good performances by some of the competitors, the NXT women’s divison has lost most of it’s edge and interest. And that has dragged down the overall quality of the NXT programming. Let’s be real, when NXT reached it’s peak, their women’s divison was the main reason for that to happen. They were the hottest and most exciting divison that WWE had to offer. Every Takeover you expected them to steal the show and they always delivered. In fact, they over-delivered. None of Asuka’s matches has touched what I consider the top 4 best women’s matches in NXT. From somebody who I consider to be the best female wrestler that NXT has had, that is slightly worrying and shows some of the flaws from her reign. Align that with the rest of a underdeveloped divison that looks like crap compared to her and the women’s divison has gone so low compared to what it used to be.

WWE likes to talk about the revolution, well, the NXT women’s divison needs a ground breaking revolution if we want it to go back to their golden days, asap.

    • Wrestling.fan.from.France

I would say that Ember vs Asuka did and they didn’t even show us all of what they could do together imo. Nonethless, I agree that the lack of stories is hurting NXT as a whole. Women aren’t as over as they used to even Asuka doesn’t get the reactions she used to (even tho they are still quite big to this day) because there isn’t anyone to care about arround her. It’s also hurting matches in themselves because it lacks true heat.

There is potential with Ember and Asuka to create a special story here that will truly elevate their match as well. The only thing that hurt their last match was the lack of story because honestly, this possibly the most well-wrestled NXT women’s match we’ve ever had (solely on wrestling aspect).

      • Booking 101

Moves wise and just from a technical standpoint I would rate Ember vs Asuka as one of the best matches. But outside of the moves looking great, the lack of story behind the whole was so clear that the match didn’t come across as good as it truly was. The drama and the narrative were missing and it dragged the quality of that match down.

Like you said, there is potential in Asuka vs Ember but I’m not confident enough that NXT is going to explore it to the fullest. Ember is still very underdeveloped as a character and that can end up hurting their match together.

Also agree on the reaction part. The crowd is mostly dead on their match. Despite some reaction on the bigger spots of the match, a couple loud Ruby chants and the “Asuka is gonna kill you” so many moments of the match the crowd was dead silent. And that happens on all of their matches nowadays. Compare this to the crowd reaction that Sasha and Bayley were getting on their matches on 2015 and it’s night and day. The biggest difference between the two situation is in 2015 you had a divison with top class wrestlers with some great and different characters and all the interactions felt unique because they were played based on the characteristics of the characters involved. Today it all feels the same way and there is no different characteristics developed enough to push feuds for a sustained amount of time. NXT needs to pick it up fast

        • Wrestling.fan.from.France

Yes, Ember is very underdeveloped as a character and this is unfortunate because she had that massive mystic about her in the beginning that is slowly but surely disappearing and her in-ring skills won over the crowd very quickly. She ha so much potential and it’s a shame that NXT writers are failing to handle her right but she has time and they can totally recover here with her.

Like you said, the difference between now and then is huge. I think the biggest thing is that before, all these women didn’t have any championship and NXT were forced to find characters for its first females wrestlers and they were able to get over with that. That’s why Sasha, Charlotte, Bayley, Becky, Paige, Emma were so over. Then the championship came and they were pretty much already over with fans.
Now, with the draft, they lost all of their established characters which truly didn’t help them so now we are in a process of a rebuild. They have one established character in Asuka and then you have others who are still fairly new in general or just not ready.

I am hoping for some change, I don’t want to expect too much from NXT because it is still developmental and honestly, having a limited group of women on TV is better because it’s a 1 hour show and it will allow all of them to be ready and develop themselves as characters and grow as performers.
Time is needed for all these girls. Some great TV matches once in a while, some mic work, some character development, I don’t want to get to the level we were before but very close so we don’t have to forget that it is still developmental (because I believe we were spoiled a little before lol).

      • Booking 101

  • Definitely come round to liking ruby and looks like ember will be next in line for a shot

  • what a fantastic match and show it was and i see asuka holding the title until ember is healed

  • I call it now. The “Summerslam match” for NXT (aka Brooklyn) will be a vacated title match. I have faith that WWE is smarter than this & have plans for her debut before August.

  • Bryskers

I’m not in a rush to see Asuka lose the title because I maintain that such an historical reign should have the ending it deserves and be a bigger deal than it is currently. It is why I didn’t want Ember to win their last match either and why I continue to support Asuka (that, and i’m aslo a huge fanboy).
Putting the belt on someone else because “it’s been too long” is not a good enough reason for me.

  • Womensor

Weird final. Looks like the ref starts the count too soon. He counts slowly when he realices Asuka doesn’t get at time

  • Gail-Rollins Fan

Yet again they had the perfect opportunity to get the belt off of Asuka without her even having to take the pin. I’m starting to wonder if they don’t have plans to bring her to the main roster at all..

    • Crazy. #RIPMae

Exactly. What was the point of the triple threat if Asuka was going to win again? Could’ve just gave us a singles match against Cross.

  • James Winters

Hasnt Ember been in next for almost a year now? Can she be considered a flop yet?

  • John Finnie

Not seen the match yet but who ever really thought Askua was dropping the belt tonight
I think they had her pin both woman as to remove them from the title scene
Off to watch a great match that I know it will be

  • IDK! The result isn’t my favorite, like everyones is thinking was the perfect opportunity to rid-off the title from Asuka. Although the match was tremendous.
