During a conference call to help promote NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III today, Triple H discussed details behind the Mae Young Classic, WWE experimenting their idea of releasing multiple shows of the tournament instead of airing weekly one hour shows on the WWE Network and the chance of an-all women show coming to the WWE. You can read WrestleZone’s coverage of the conference call below.

  • With regards to women’s wrestling, he specifically praised Dave Prazak who founded both Chicago-based Shimmer Women Athletes and the Florida-based Shine Wrestling promotions. Hunter said he’s asked for Prazak’s views and opinions, and that while they could have possibly done more for women’s wrestling sooner, now is definitely the right time and right place as people keep asking for it the more they produce. He said the women previously didn’t have the “pot of gold” at the end of the proverbial rainbow the same as the men did, but that’s slowly changing.
  • Originally the Mae Young Classic was supposed to be 16 competitors, but he expanded it to 32 and there could have been even more with all the talent on the global scene. Triple H said that Shawn Michaels was speechless after the Mae Young Classic, and some of the crew thinks it’s better than the Cruiserweight Classic.
  • He spent a lot of time putting over the Mae Young Classic and how good it’s going to be and how all the girls competing killed it and exceeded expectations. It’s being released in large clumps binge-watch style and not week-to-week because they have the hindsight of the Cruiserweight Classic and know that people would rather watch things when they want to and have time, and it’s hard to keep the audience’s attention every single week. The goal this time is to build towards one huge match they can produce in the live finals in Las Vegas.
  • With regards to signing more women’s talent and the possibility of a future show exclusive to the women, Triple H simply said “never say never”. They’re experimenting with a lot of things as they monitor and track the viewing habits of their audience.

Even though Bianca didn’t make it far after Mae Young Classic I’m expecting a push and a regular on NXT. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/8a751623d070485b3fa50a07e8d841209a5171c7e67f9938770a03259acf0940.gif

I doubt anyone will disagree with you

      • Rosanna

        Mhm! Shes coming.

    • I mean, for someone with NO experience prior to getting signed, I’d say she did pretty damn good. She made it past the first round AND got to have a competitive match with arguably the top women’s wrestler from Japan. She’s got no reason to complain; they obviously know they have something special with her.

    • BC

Yeah, she is definitely going to be one of their big stars when she gets on NXT. So hyped

      Queen ready to dethrone Asuka

      • Rosanna

For the longest. I wanted Ember to win. But the match doesn’t hype me up anymore. I feel as if after she retains she should move up and they should vacant the title and they should have a tourment for it. Now I personally don’t think Ember should be apart of it or if so doesn’t move on to the next round and have someone win it. Someone not Billie, Peyton, Ember, Nikki, Ruby, Sonya someone who’s still in developmental or something. We have Mary Kate, Abbey, Kairi, Bianca I would say Dakota but she’s a face. But you get what I mean.

        • Exotic

I don’t Ember at all tbh. Like I get shes amazing in the ring and she makes wrestling look easy but thats about it. I have no desire to know what and who she is about. Shes really bland outside the ring. If she defeats Asuka, then everyone looks so damn weak considering how they all failed against Asuka. So to have anyone aside Asuka defeat Ember for the title would be so unbelievable, which is why I agree with you that it should be vacated.
Asuka should just state how NXT has no challenges, how she conquered everything and everyone and then vacate the title.

It would be awesome if the MYC finals was for the vacated title. Kairi winning it – I’m here for it.

          • Rosanna

Yep thus her undefeated streak is still in contact when she moves up to the main roster. I think she will be on raw because that’s where all the top stars are at currently. But I think they will put her on smackdown due to the fact that raw is overcrowded and underbooked.

Smackdown will give her character more demention and more in depth and her true heel nature. But smackdown might randomly break her streak record like they randomly did with Sasha without any purpose or reason.

Raw will just make her an unstoppable force and have her face random people until she’s in the loop of the title picture no actual build up or storyline just more accolades which means nothing if you don’t have a great storyline with it.

NXT is good for her because she doesn’t do much she barely speaks she reactions off of a couple sentences and facial expressions and her mannerisms.

Vacating the title would be the best decision so she doesn’t face any looses any time soon. It would be 2 years soon and if she can go 2 years without facing a lose and a winning streak that’s something to be proud of. But we’ll see, everyone’s rooting for Ember and even if Ember wins by disqualification Asuka is still taking a loose so they should just vacate it and if they really want Asuka to keep her streak intact that’s the best option.

They don’t have to put her on NXT TV right away let her keep working all the NXT House Shows.

      • Rosanna

For what reason? Most people are still in developmental because they need work on timing selling and promo and mic skills. She doesn’t need to be working house shows if she’s ready. I know she has to work on timing but she will get better as she progresses and there’s no reason she should still be In developmental if she has everything else down packed besides one thing.

Put her on NXT television and watch her so magic with anyone. It’s time..

        • Joseph

If have still work house shows to get better thats the point. You wanna have more matches under your belt. Just because you thing she’s ready doesn’t mean she is ready. We seen in the past what happens male or female they rush them.

          • Rosanna

That doesn’t make since. See listen timing plays into selling if the timing is off but she sells the move then everything meshes. Have you seen twitter? Wwe superstars and women superstars are praising her and saying she has great potential and she’s going to be big so she needs to show.

          • Joseph

Yea shes doing well but she is not at the top level yet.

  • MK126

At least HHH can admit that the women of the past didnt have the same oportunities as they do now and is willing to make things right with the fans. I can definitely believe that the MYC will be better than the CWC only because the CWC was delegated to cruiserweights and thats all high flying. The MYC has women with different wrestling styles mixed into one tournament so you know the crowd will be entertained. Im glad they doubled the number of women in the tournament to show off more talent

  • DayOneISH!

Man I wish this tournament was around during the early 2000s with women like Cheerleader Melissa,Awesome Kong,Angelina Love,Madison Eagles,Sarita,Sexy Star and even when Melina,Mickie James,Beth And Natalya were still in development brands.

    • MK126

Sara Del Rey, MsChif, Daizee Haze, Serena Deeb (when she was in OVW), Krissy Vaine, Taylor Wilde (when she was in DSW)

      • DayOneISH!

Yes of course those girls as well

  • Kvngbalor

I am so excited for this someone who’s been a fan of indy wrestling to see a lot of these women who TRULY were revolutionizing women’s wrestling just without the big platform or coverage it makes me so happy to finally see it pay off for them a lot of these women were putting on 4 & 5 star matches before the 4HW were even running the ropes it just shows hard work dedication and perseverance really pays off

  • Exotic

They really don’t need to make an all women show.

    • I would enjoy it and think the idea of an actual midcard in the women’s division could really help a lot of women out.

      • Exotic

The CW show flopped, the all women show will flop too and I personally prefer to see them wrestle on RAW/SD.

        • I think it could be more dynamic than 205 because the women are not limited in size and therefore not as limited in style. Most every cruiserweight is kind of the same. Plus, I also think that 205 is on at a weird ass time.

          • Exotic

Idk tbh. If they have an women all show thats around 1 hour, we are going to have 3/4 matches max per week.
Since there is the SD division, Raw division and MYC – it’d be hard to include majority of the women so some they appear inconsistently, also there would be no excitement/surprise regarding the women when we have special shows like the draft/PPVs etc and alot of the fans wouldn’t care to watch the show since it would either air after RAW/SD or just another day with a weird ass time.

          • Why not give women their own show and keep some on Raw and Smackdown? They have a number of stars to carry an all women’s show and it could be a place between NXT and the main roster. Even if it was just developmental for women I think it could be really cool.

I also almost think if we got 3/4 matches a week if they were solid and told stories I would be happy.

          • Exotic

nah too much wrestling in one week for me lol
Rather just see them exclusively on the brand they have been assigned to.

  • Aye Mate

The arrival of Kairi Sane, Bianca Belair and Shayna – I think the MYC will be remembered as a pivotal moment in time for three hugely promising future stars.

Would love to see Piper Niven, Toni Storm and Dakota Kai all signed too.

    • Dakota has been signed for a while already :-)

    • George

What about Candice? she has a chance to get a contract with WWE right?

      • Aye Mate

I like me some Candice, yes.

  • Marshy

When Triple H says never say never and in this business that one should take what says seriously, cause after all he did married the boss daughter who is McMahon.
