Impact Write-Up (December 23rd, 2010): Walking in a Winter Weirdo-Land

Back for the TNA Impact Weekly Wailing, I see. I knew you would return. That’s right, folks! It is time for yet another edition for the Diva Dirt TNA Impact Write-Up brought to you by yours truly.  Last week, we saw two Knockouts handcuffed together and a fairly new Knockout make her official in-ring debut. This week, we head into the final round of the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Title tournament to find out who will finally take home those nice shiny objects of obsession. So take a little ride with me on the TNA fast track. I might even let you be the caboose!

Our first sight of the lovely TNA Knockouts comes from the trailer (literally) of the Knockouts Champion, Madison Rayne and her tag team parter, Tara. They’re caught on camera, primping and prepping for their tag match later in the evening against The Beautiful People. Madison says they might be going into the match with one body but those two share one brain. Tara reminds her that her elbow brace is tough as nails but she also wants to make sure it doesn’t make her look…fat?! How on earth can an elbow brace make you look fat? I shake my head. Tara wants to make it quick so she can skip off to her party with Gen Me. They giggle, gaggle and go back to the art of applying lipgloss.

We see the back of, who we later find out is Sarita, with a gold strap behind her back. She enters the locker room of Velvet Sky and after a sneer, closes the door behind her. As shown after the commercial, during the break, Sarita proceeded to beat the living hell out of poor Vel Vel. She slashes her back with that leather weapon of choice, prompting Velvet to tag Sarita as a “crazy bitch”. Like we didn’t already know? This quickly goes into a rabid choke and after a moment, the Loco Latina sends Velvet careening out into the hallway.

Sarita once again taunts Velvet about not being able to face her one on one. At this particular point, I find myself wondering, why in the hell are these two still feuding?! Okay. I know this is probably going to link back to not wanting to see feuds but it is BORING. It’s like a very violent edition of Mean Girls minus Lindsay Lohan and her cocaine addiction.

Nonetheless, the fighting continues backstage, apparently in another trailer by the looks of it. I’m guessing there was a sale? Velvet comes off the floor strong, fighting back against Sarita and bringing her down with a choke of her own. They roll around on the floor but Sarita has the advantage with that belt. Can I just add right here that Sarita actually looks pretty fierce in that outfit? Good. Velvet struggles to breathe and does her best to keep Sarita away from her but she is relentless. She is bound and determined to crush Velvet’s throat. Thankfully, Angelina Love runs in for the save. Sarita wastes no time making like Speedy Gonzalez and getting the hell out of Dodge. This leaves Velvet on the floor, choking and telling her partner that she can’t breathe. Just a slight newsflash, as someone pointed out, normally if you can’t breathe then you can’t talk. Haha. =X Just saying.

The match we have all been waiting for is up next. You know you were waiting! It is the final round of the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Title Tournament. Tara and Madison Rayne taking on The Beautiful People to determine who will take home those coveted red and gold belts. TaRayne is out first and apparently Madison didn’t get a bonus check with that Knockouts title. She’s still recycling that hideous black attire and gold underoos but her hair looks nice. Out next is Angelina Love, walking stag due to the violent beatdown on Velvet earlier in the night. TaRayne gets a kick out of it and giggles at her expense. I am loving Angelina’s outfit, especially the top. Bow chicka wow wow.

In what looks like a solo flight, the referee rings the bell with TaRayne on one side of the ring and Angelina on the other. Madison starts off for her team, making good to point out their two on one advantage. The two Knockouts lock knuckles and Angelina goes for a quick roll-up but it’s no good. Tara takes a step into the ring but backs out, allowing Madison to come back. “Hurry up, Madison. I’ve got a date tonight.” Really, Tara? Really?!? Are Gen Me even legal yet?

Despite the pressure, Angelina isn’t one to back down from a fight. She puts it to Madison but Tara’s random interference knocks her off track. Madison takes Angelina down with a choke (deja vu?) and goes for a quick pin but no three count. Unfortunately, the Canadian favorite doesn’t come as strong and it seems like the numbers game is starting to catch up to her. Madison presses Angelina back into the corner, applying a nice foot to throat choke. A tag into Tara and the Black Widow is in for a double team. Tara’s ring time is quick, only shoving Angelina across the ring before tagging her partner back in. She seems to be playing favor to that elbow of obesity. Madison wastes no time going for another pair of pin attempts but Angelina is not spent yet.

Going back to the corner, Madison tags Tara in for another short stint before coming back in herself. She goes for an illegal hair pull before executing the headscissors stomp (as Mike Tenay so kindly pointed out) that she is so fond of. The look of glee on her face kind of makes you wonder what exactly she gets out of that. Hmm… Lazy a half. Angelina kicks out and gets tossed back into the corner for her efforts. But she won’t be held down!  She fights back, giving Madison a kick then a back elbow. Her legs swing around and she’s sitting on the middle rope when SMACK!; elbow brace to the face. Angelina’s body dumps to the mat while Madison keeps the referee distracted. This isn’t looking good for A. Love.

But wait! Out on the ramp is Winter! She makes her way to the ring, a scowl dark across her face. Can we say fierce as hell?! I think I have a new favorite. Madison is baffled by her presence, especially when she slides into Angelina’s corner and stretches her arm out for a tag. She gets it quick and storms into the ring, going right for Madison with a big boot. She pummels Madison like a wild puma and when Tara tries to interfere, gives her a swift kick to the mother land. It doesn’t just hurt for the guys, people!

Madison tries to come at Winter again but TNA’s newest Knockout isn’t going to stand for it. She wrenches Madison’s arm and picks her up for a harsh sidewalk slam which lands Madison sloppy on the mat. Three seconds later and we have new TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions: Winter and Angelina Love!

Without even an ounce of celebration, Winter rushes to Angelina’s side to check on her. And yes, that was Tara blowing on her uterus that you just saw. Someone pass her a Midol. I don’t think that party is going to go so well now. After realizing where she was, Angelina quickly backs away from Winter, shocked. The referee confirms they are the new tag team champions as Winter offers her one of the gold belts. Angelina questions if it is for her. Talk about a Merry Christmas. A. Love is still shocked, slightly creeped out by Winter’s appearance. TaRayne are both perplexed as they leave the ring and the winners’ hands are raised in victory.

Thoughts: I am so ecstatic to see Katie Lea (Winter) back on wrestling television. She has been a favorite of mine for years on end and I smiled like a kid when I saw her come out. Yes, we have gotten her in random backstage segments lately but seeing her in the ring again gave me chills. I like the twist that TNA went with in regards to the titles. It is always nice to see a change up, which I normally encourage. I am very, very curious to see where Winter and Angelina Love go as the tag team champions and as a tag team.

I think it would have been more entertaining if, for the Christmas Impact edition, they had wrestled in hot Santa attire but oh well. Winter looked fierce, as I know some of you would agree. As for Velvet Sky, I’m not sure where this is going to leave her. I know she will probably continue this feud with Sarita and who knows? Maybe somewhere down the line, she’ll get her shot at the Knockouts Championship. Now THAT would definitely be changing it up.

I want to wish all of you a very Happy Holidays, whichever you celebrate. I hope you all get mounds of presents and eat gobbles of good food. Spend it with family and friends and cherish what you have. I thank you very much for giving myself and Diva Dirt some of your precious time on Christmas Eve. Until next week, may you all be blessed with goodies and gumdrops under the mistletoe. Christmas kisses!

I like Katie but not feeling the win.

  • Kaledrina

velvet and sarita are still feuding because sky has yet to prove herself. it also fits into the other story between velvet/love/winter as winter said herself that velvet can’t look after or protect angelina, like she can. i actually think it’s all rather well done, both stories seem to be woven into one and it wouldn’t surprise me if sarita’s secret phone-call friend turns out to be winter! i mean, she did seem to disappear like her when angelina came gunning for her, haha.

i’m very anxious about the new tag champs and am really worried that winter could suffer from a case of the taylors or eves (becoming a champion way too soon), but at the very least it should mean tna will have a renewed interest in the tag division. after-all, angelina is a golden girl of theirs.

as it stands right now, the only knockouts not doing much of anything are daffney and tessmacher. which i’m okay with as every division needs a “jobber”. i’m looking forward to how things shape up in the new year, for me the tna knockouts have definitely found their feet again.

    another great writeup!

cant wait till next week. Eric young would say that Tara was hit in the vag bone.. haha

  • Reid

I thought the cut-away of winters finisher was stupid, she must have botched? lol. but she kinda looked weak to me, that kick to tara was kinda lame tbh .. dont get me wrong i think shes great and a great add to the ko’s division .. but i dunno she coulda done more to get the win!! As for storyline purposes .. i wonder where this is going, and if we will get to see new ko’s tag teams entre TNA … fingers crossed! I would love to see daffney get a little push towards the tag titles with someone with the same kinda dark-gimmick. Its sad that we never saw taylor and hamada actually loose the titles tho … :(

  • Reid

oh and P.S .. i really hope thats NOT winters wrestling attire…. poo as haha

  • BieberFever

No No not TaRayne Rayne of Tara make it catch on!

  • jdcabltv

ohh and thank you for uploading it backwards…wondered if they were going to wrestle backwards too…LOL (if you didnt notice, all the words and scrolls were inverted backwards, not filmed like that…LOL!) MERRY CHRISTMAS ALLL!!!

  • A.E

@april if you don’t remember when angelina, velvet, mickie, tara madison sarita engaged in a brawl and then a six ko’ tag which the heel were victories when sarita pins velvet and in the next week velvet faced sarita but sarita got the best of her i think that the goal of the feud and i have to disagree with you with all my respect depending on what sarita has been doing to vel vel they migh build sarita up to take madison’s place as the top heel and as far as the feud with velvet goes their is a slight a chance for another ko match at genesis the final showdown between sarita and velvet with velvet prevail hope that well happen so .

Well, at least this adds an interesting angle to the women’s tag division. A good storyline could certainly help bring the titles a bit more attention.

Also, it’s great to see Katie/Kat/Winter back in the ring <3

  • LaceyVonErichFan

Winter impressed me so much. Probaly because i missed her wrestling, those big boots were amazing and her attire was just so stylish. Definetly my 2nd favorite knockout as Madison’s my first but the ending was suppose to be a backbreaker that almost looked epic, Eve definetly sold Katie’s backbreaker the best but Madison botched it.

  • fanboy

As much as I love Katie… I dont think she did great in this match… like that finish looked a bit hard for her to execute maybe because Madison might be a bit heavy.. I dunno… but I love her expression once she got in the ring ;D

  • rodneyclint

Never been a fan of Katie’s really, and that hasn’t changed since she debuted on TNA. I think the Winter stuff has been interesting, but nothing to write home about and people are treating it like it’s golden television. Fact of the matter is, she’s never done anything too impressive wrestling wise on television. In the WWE, she was a nickel among pennies wrestling wise, which is why she stood out. I’m curious to see what happens when the whole women’s roster can wrestle. Now, I’m not saying she’s not good, just never been too impressed. I am glad though that Velvet is feuding with Sarita because I think it’s time she had her chance to shine solo since when the BP are together, it’s Angelina who takes the spotlight wrestling wise. The surprise tag title win should provide for something interesting as well.

  • Mr. AJ Lee

I think it was just the excitement of everything and the finisher just got bothced. But we all know that she can do better. I dont think the Sarita and Velvet will go on any longer. Cause I imediatly see Velvet and Winter fighting for Angelina. Velvet being pissed that she and Angelina r not tag champs. Winter is gunna tell Vel Vel that she isn’t good enough for Angelina. Velvet will have a series of matches where she tries 2 price her self even more 2 Angelina. And then maybe velvet will get the win over sarita maybe even winter or Madison

  • jjay91274

I have to say I actually had a few cringe moments when I saw the beating down of Velvet by Sarita! On one hand I was angry they were making Velvet look so weak, but after thinking about it I think it was done rather well. Velvet is great in alot of areas and I am a huge fan of hers however she is not the best or most technically skilled wrestler. Sarita is much better than her as far as technical skill goes so it makes sense Velvet got beat down so bad. My only hope is that she comes back and finally gets the upper hand on Sarita and finally proves herself as a true contender.

  • art1e

madison botched winters finisher i more like the slam instead of a back breaker….

the only reasons i have to watch tna is tara & winter, when winter is wrestling.

  • The Crying Light

KALEDRINA: “am really worried that winter could suffer from a case of the taylors or eves (becoming a champion way too soon),”

I agree with you to a certain extent. But while I’m not a big fan of the fact that she won a belt so quickly, I don’t think that she will suffer a similar effect (at least not to the extent experienced by Taylor or Eve.) I don’t think she’s an Eve, a Taylor or even a Mickie.

As far as I can estimate, Katie Lea has always been billed as a fierce competitor. To casual fans, people must’ve known her from her stint at the WWE and I wouldn’t be surprised if they feel as though she’s one of those women who should’ve gotten more of chance at the spotlight given her skill. For more serious fans of women’s pro-wrestling, she’s known as one of the few women who have ever won Queens of Chaos, and has never been billed as an underdog given her stature.

I think she may actually pull this one off. Granted she’s no Awesome Kong but still… I wouldn’t be surprised if she did. =)

  • Macho Madness

That Sarita and Velvet backstage fight was INTENSE! Sarita has developed quite the nasty attitude. I like this fued as I am a fan of Velvet and Sarita. I like that Sarita is actually being used consistently now and being given good stuff, while Velvet is on a mission to prove her as a singles wrestler.

Winter is a CREEP! hahaha. I also didnt really care much about her in WWE, but as Winter in TNA I am very interested in what she is doing. Katie Lea is looking hotter then ever!

Uh-oh…Tara got hit square in the vag bone again. hahahah

I am so interested to see where this Angelina/Velvet/Winter storyline goes. I love and hate all at the same time how Winter is trying to drive a wedge between The Beautiful People, and her plan is seemingly starting to slowly come to fruition.

AWSOME storyline progression for the Knockouts this week. They had some good stuff here. All this and we still have Mickie vs Madison. Now they just need to give Daffney something to do =)

  • darkangels

the match was Stale tna really needs some indy girls and a little more diversity to their ko’s roster

  • Aksana

I absolutley adore Sarita as being the bully, and Velvet being the victim – it’s a great feud, and TNA would be stupid to let that go. They’ve dragged it on for a while now, but it’s good to see they still do remember their feuding. The brawl they did was fantastic, I can’t wait to see more of this.

I also find it great that TNA has put all of these feuds into one, TNA is proving to be very entertaining with it. Adding Winter into it makes it all the better, I don’t think it’s to early for Winter to win a title, she was treaten like shit in WWE so I think she does deserve something to look back on in her career.

Great write up again April, I love how you add humor into the write up!

  • HoustonHomewrecker

Sarita is my favorite K/O and I loved the brawl. Velvet is an awesome character and I actually felt sorry for her.

The tag match was just ok. Angelina has no ring chemistry with Tara or Madison. Winter was underwhelming. A lot of sloppy offense and a botched back breaker. Ive been a fan of hers since her “Nikita” days but this wasn’t good.

  • YourHero

Well, the tag team championships are already almost meaningless so I guess having Winter just insert herself into a championship match and cheat(?) in front of the referee doesn’t even do much harm. Maybe if they have the real TBP chase the tag belts a while they will start to gain prestige..

The KO title isn’t much better at this point.. the booking is so weak. Hopefully Sarita will get more into the title picture in 2011, she’s the best they’ve got left IMO.

  • darkangels

@YourHero i agree sarita needs to win the belt ASAP and stop hiring the ex wwe girls for awhile and get some young talent and build their own female superstars like miayim athena porta perez even go after Reby Sky the hottest prospect out right now

  • Ed

Anyone else think they’re grooming Sarita to step into the top heel spot after Madison drops the title to Mickie? During this match they were talking about how vicious Sarita’s becoming. Plus, they’re really making no attempt to make Madison look strong before she faces Mickie — she’s been jobbing all over the place lately.

That would definitely be for the best IMO. Madison as the top heel just doesn’t cut it. They’ve pushed her very hard for something like 9 months now and she hasn’t delivered in the ring or even gotten over. I think it’s time for them to chalk up Madison’s push as a failure and go in a new direction.

  • A.E

i kinda agree with Ed on this one plus i kinda think TNA need a new top heel and i think sarita well be the perfect fit for it plus a future feud between mickie and sarita may bring a lot of rating to TNA. plus i think madison and tara should go after the tag title.

i have a concern about the match in genesis the way madison have botched.but hope it all fixed by the ppv time.and a have a great match.
