Evolution Rumors

On Monday, July 23, Stephanie McMahon announced WWE would hold the first all-women’s PPV, titled Evolution.

The event will feature over 50 women from the past, present, and future. Evolution will also include the finals of the Mae Young Classic II and four Women’s Title matches, including Raw, Smackdown, NXT, and NXT UK Women’s Titles.

Speculation is starting to ramp up as to what fans can expect of the event:

  • In Stephanie McMahon’s latest Sky Sports interview she has fueled speculation that she could be wrestling at the event.
  • According to Cageside Seats, TicketDrew says there will be more Legends announced for the event, including “one or more Hall of Famers” and The Bella Twins.
  • Another report by Cageside Seats is speculating that Nikki Cross will be called up to main roster soon. She has been working SmackDown Live house shows recently and was on stage for the announcement of the upcoming WWE Evolution event.
  • On a recent Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer speculated WWE will take the titles off current champs Carmella and Alexa Bliss before Evolution because their “matches have not been good,” and “that’s tough – because if you end [Evolution] with those two, there is going to be a struggle.”
  • Though Stephanie McMahon’s announcement didn’t include the addition of Women’s Tag Championships, in her recent interview she revealed it is part of WWE’s plan to reintroduce them soon.

Triple H did an interview with ESPN.com about the WWE women’s Evolution PPV. He commented on internet speculation that the Greatest Royal Rumble PPV (which no women performed on) influenced the decision to create Evolution:

“Let’s take the Saudi Arabia show off the table, and let’s just say it never happened — would anybody question that they deserve this opportunity? To me, it’s a ridiculous statement, the timing of it. You cannot effect change in a region that, culturally, is trying to change, you cannot help them affect that change without being there.”

Triple H also commented on what you can expect from the show:

“You can expect to see the best of all brands — that’s Ronda [Rousey], Charlotte [Flair], Alexa [Bliss], Sasha [Banks], Carmella, Nia Jax, Asuka, everyone — plus you’ll get to see Trish Stratus, Lita will be there, you’re going to see some legends. You’re also going to see stars of now and the future in Shayna Baszler and the women of NXT.”
