Impact Write-Up (November 8th, 2012): The War to be Impact’s Dominant Power Couple Rages On

It’s Friday yet again, and thus we are here and ready for another episode of Impact Wrestling. Recently, Tara and ODB have seemed to be building up to an eventual bout between the two for Tara’s Knockouts Championship, but with Tara’s “boo”, Jessie in the way, ODB has seemed a little angry that her own man, and fellow Knockouts Tag Team Champion, Eric Young isn’t by her side where he should be. Tonight, ODB takes on both Tara and Jessie in a handicap match. But with Eric away, will ODB be able to take down “Hollywood’s Greatest Couple” by herself? Let’s see!

Backstage, Hollywood’s Greatest Couple is shown talking each other up and probably planning dinners with Beyonce & Jay Z, as Jessie decides to flex and talk about how he beat ODB last week with these technical moves that I don’t seem to remember happening. But if Hollywood’s Greatest Couple says it happened, then I’m sure it did. ODB interrupts them, as Jessie uses Tara as a shield while she yells at him. She states that the only power couple in TNA is she and Eric! ODB decides that since Eric isn’t here tonight, she’s going to take on both of them tonight in a handicap match. The two ladies, as ODB puts it, cower in fear, while she heads off and they decide to prepare by sanitizing their hands!

ODB’s music hits, but she is not the first thing we see on screen as our trusty red headed ring announcer, Christy Hemme, must get her pan up shot of the week in which leaves me wondering if Lilian Garcia is a little bit upset that she doesn’t get one of these during each episode of SmackDown? Anyways, following the entrances of ODB (wearing some sort of a red belt that looks like a title) and Hollywood’s Greatest Couple (props to Jessie for attempting to skip with Tara this week as per I requested before), Taryn Terrell signals for the bell to sound and we get started. ODB takes it to both of them with some chops to the chest, before shoving Jessie’s face in her gals and then banging their heads together.

The crowd gets behind ODB, but Hollywood’s Greatest Couple (HGC) takes her down with a double back elbow. Tara then begins to carress the bicep of Jessie as this new commentator states, before Jessie bodyslams her and they begin taunting the pink clad Knockout. A double Irish Whip, but ODB hangs onto the ropes and kicks Jessie in the face. She then takes the Knockouts Champion down, bodyslams Jessie(!), and proceeds to bodyslam Tara on top of Jessie. He shoves ODB into the corner, but ODB slides out and avoids the attack, trapping Tara and Jessie, and running forward with a bronco buster onto the both of them. “I’m a classy biatch”, screams ODB, who spears Tara down and covers for the victory over Tara! After the match, HGC attacks her and Tara then drops ODB with a Widows Peak. HGC then pour the liquid courage all over the downed ODB and begin making out.

Also backstage after the match, ODB is shown screaming on her phone at Eric Young, stating that Tara and Jessie have crossed the line by touching her liquid courage and dumping it all over her. She says that he better be there this Sunday because the four of them are going to meet in a mixed tag match this Sunday! With a raging scream, she ends the call with an “I LOVE YOU” and heads off to get prepared for Sunday.

Thoughts: I know it’s probably going to sound weird… but I actually am really enjoying the stuff between ODB, Tara, and Jessie. Maybe it’s the twisted, odd part of me that prefers wrestling segments to be silly & goofy for my own amusement and not take everything seriously all the time? Don’t get me wrong, I love a serious feud that has all the stakes up for grabs, but not everything has to be like that. It’s fun to have some variety, and this is one of the only feuds the Knockouts have had in a while where it’s been more comedy based as opposed to serious (or at least comedy that made me laugh) so it’s not like it’s a common thing. I don’t mind them going this route at all as it’s a change of pace and makes stuff different, plus it’s getting them all segments AND matches each week.

Granted the past few weeks has been generally the same stuff (Tara/Jessie segment, a match involving some form of the three, then an ODB segment chewing Eric out for no showing), the thing that makes it not seem as repetitive to me is that ODB, Tara, and as much as it pains me to say it, Jessie, are entertaining me in each scene they do. I’d rather be entertained each week than not… so I say job well done! I thought the two of them laying ODB out and dumping the flask on her was a hilarious touch. How many other people in wrestling would that be treated as such a scandalous thing to do and build up the heat/anger between them? It adds to their feud because now you want to see ODB just beat the crap out of them for wasting her prestigious alcohol, and I’m not going to lie… I loved it. (Commence name calling in the comments, I’m prepared.)

Do I have high hopes for the mixed tag match this Sunday to be treated as a five star classic? About as much hope that I have in Sarita running out during the show and destroying everyone to proclaim she also wants a shot at Tara’s belt and then proceeding to do a soccer mom salsa dance over everyone’s fallen bodies. But it will continue to build ODB and Tara’s feud up instead of ending it at the first pay per view they can, so it’s doing something right and giving us prolonged feuds. Plus, I personally really enjoy the two females involved, can stand Jessie since his persona works for the type of character he’s portraying, and am not really bothered with Eric anymore, so let’s hope it provides some story, comedy, and build up for the eventual Tara/ODB title match!
