When it comes to Penelope Ford, ECW legend Tazz couldn’t have said it any better: “She screams ‘Mega Star’”. Ford is on her way there after her incredible performance against AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida at last Wednesday’s Night 1 of Fyter Fest.
En route to the show, Ford had merit of pinning both Shida and former Champion Riho on separate occasions. Ford’s performance was a welcomed surprise as she put forth her best effort at Fyter Fest.
A near-perfect ring look that was reminiscent of Mortal Kombat 3’s Sindel certainly added to Fords’ overall presentation. Perhaps that wasn’t the case, but the gamer chick in me just thought so.
With a combination of skills and a plan in place with partner (and real life fiancee) Kip Sabian, Ford is focused and won’t stop to get what she wants. Even though she lost the match, Ford still comes out as a star to watch out for in the future. Many fans believe that she stole the show on Night 1 of Fyter Fest.
Ford has all the boxes checked when it comes to Superstar success. She has the look – a ferocious combination of beauty, danger and talent makes for a quest in dominance. A gymnastics background gives her an advantage in how she can take down her opponents. Her actions back up her words.
The title hunt is not over for Ford, but it is the beginning of something special. With Britt Baker recovering from a torn ACL injury, there is no better time for Ford to emerge as one of AEW’s top stars. Baker’s absence from the ring gives Ford the opportunity to become one of the biggest stars coming out of the AEW Women’s Division.
When it comes to the Women’s Division, Penelope Ford is the perfect antidote that was needed to give it a boost. Among the talented group of ladies, Ford stands out of the pack. She’s a breath of fresh air, a pop of color to add to the design. At just 27 years old, Ford hasn’t touched the prime of her career yet. In fact, she is nowhere near that.
