WSU Weekend Results & Other News, Plus Video Interviews

News and notes from WSU:

WSU, the leader in womens wrestling today, returned this past Saturday night for another “WSU On The Road” match, as WSU Spirit Champion & leader of the Cosmo Club, Brittney Savage w/Rick Cataldo successfully defended her WSU Spirit Championship against former Cosmo Club member, “The Original Soul Sister” Jana at an NYWC event in Deer Park, NY.

Jana, seeking revenge against her former associate, started the match fast and furious. Savage looked overwhelmed by her former charge, as Jana took out 7 months of built up frustration against the leader of the Cosmo Club.

Jana looked like she would become a two-time Spirit Champion, as Jana clamped in the Jana-vice. Savage, on the verge of tapping out, was saved by her right hand man (for lack of a better word), as Rick Cataldo ran in and distracted the referee.

Jana, upset that the ref was distracted by Cataldo, broke the hold and went to shut up Cataldo once and for all. While Jana was able to get satisfaction temporarily by going after Cataldo, this lapse in judgment due to her emotions, cost Jana, as this gave Savage time to recuperate.

With Savage getting her senses back, Savage was able to catch Jana with her new finishing move, a bulldog turned backbreaker. Savage won the match via pinfall, but the war between the Cosmo Club and Jana is far from over.

As you’ll see below, Jana went to attack the Cosmo Club after the match in the parking lot. While The Cosmo Club got away, Jana now turns her sights on her former tag partner, Cindy Rogers on 12/11 in a Submission match. For Savage, Savage retains the WSU Spirit Championship, a championship that has seemingly become synonomous with Brittney Savage.

Diva Dirt to Honor Trish Stratus with First Ever ‘Legacy Award’

Diva Dirt has launched its very own award and we’re very excited to honor the all-time Diva great, Trish Stratus as the first ever recipient! Full details below:

Diva-Dirt.com (Diva Dirt) is extremely pleased to announce today the launch of the ‘Diva Dirt Legacy Award’ with multi-time WWE Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus, set to be honored as the first recipient.

The annual ‘Legacy Award’ will honor the career achievements of select talented and exceptional female professional wrestlers.

“This award is our way of saying ‘thank you’ for the years of entertainment that these women have provided fans across the world,” said Diva Dirt’s Editor-in-Chief, Melanie Rob. “Women’s wrestling may be a niche, but these women work just as hard as male wrestlers and the sacrifices they make for our enjoyment, such as injuries, are real. This is our salute to you.”

The first recipient of the ‘Legacy Award’ is a woman who is synonymous with women’s wrestling. A seven-time WWE Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus broke barriers for women in the wrestling industry during her tenure with WWE from 2000 through to 2006. Not relying solely on her obvious beauty, Stratus matched her looks with a strong in-ring repertoire, charming wit and personality, as well as a shrewd business sense. Her countless accomplishments include a record-breaking seven reigns as Women’s Champion, being voted WWE’s ‘Babe of the Year’ by the fans three years in a row, and receiving the highly acclaimed ‘Diva of the Decade’ award. Throughout her career, Stratus participated in numerous high-profile matches and storylines, including a Women’s Championship match as the main-event on Raw, as well as multiple WrestleMania matches.

A Pocket Volcano’s Eruption (Issue #1) – An Ode to a Scream Queen

Greetings and salutations everyone! When the offer was made to Diva Dirt’s team members to come up with their own articles, I hopped on this bandwagon. I love to write, and what better way to share my thoughts and opinions on female wrestling? (The title of my articles came from a friend – he thinks of me as a volcano and this sprung to mind. I like it!) I struggled to come up with a subject for my first column, and it struck me whilst watching a match on SHIMMER Volume 14. I’m going to take this opportunity to fully expound on exactly why I idolize one wrestler in particular.

My number one is a peculiar choice, as there are others who are more technically skilled in the ring (as she, herself, would most likely agree), or others whose resume is filled with accolades and belts. However, this woman grabbed my attention the very first time I saw her on my television. I’ve followed her career through its ups and downs, its highs and lows. Her perseverance and good spirit is refreshing in a business that can chew you up and spit you out. Who is this lady? Read on…

SmackDown Redux (November 26th, 2010): Black Friday is Dark Indeed for Michelle McCool

The moment we had all been waiting for finally happened at Survivor Series last Sunday. Natalya defeated Lay-Cool (Layla and Michelle McCool) to become the new Diva’s Champion and Beth Phoenix made her highly anticipated return. The possibilities of a Natalya title reign are endless, and there are some mouth watering match-ups in there to boot. But first, we have to concentrate on SmackDown and after Nattie basically sent Lay-Cool packing on Raw, the egotistical devious duo were not in great moods. Michelle took on Kelly Kelly in a singles match. Lets go see how it worked out.

Lay-Cool’s music is playing as SmackDown comes back from a break or something. Both Layla and Michelle have microphones, and Michelle is dressed to wrestle. She says that Lay-Cool’s music needs to be cut and mentions that neither she nor her BFF are in the mood for shenanigans tonight. Layla believes that she’s currently having the worst week ever and Michelle claims that Natalya has stolen the Diva’s Championship which is apparently property of Lay-Cool. They insult Natalya and complain about what happened on Monday night. Neither are amused that Natalya had them kicked out of Raw. Lay-Cool say that they hate Raw and then begin to talk about how beautiful the people of Jacksonville, Florida are.

Impact Write-Up (November 25, 2010): It’s a Thanksgiving Miracle! Sarita Stuns the Champ

Last night’s Impact had a smorgasboard of Knockouts all over the place! Apparently the holiday spirit hadn’t infected these ladies just yet as they were all set on beating the hell outta each other. Which made for some great television! Find out what happened below…

Backstage, we see Angelina Love and Velvet Sky chattering by a food table, discussing their individual action figures, which are in their hands. Ric Flair walks up, inviting them both to Fortune/Immortal’s Thanksgiving party. He promised the guys he’d bring back candy (I’d be pulling out the mace at that point…) and Angelina grins, saying, “Eye candy?” They seem to be interested, when Mickie James walks up, wanting to speak to Angelina. She extends a hand, thanking the blonde for a great match last week. Velvet interrupts, putting her hands over Angelina’s ears, singing. Mickie gives her a look, “What are you, 12?” In response, Angelina holds up her action figure, extends the tiny hand, and says, “Talk to the hand.”

TNA Xplosion Watch (November 24, 2010): When Former Partners Collide

On this week’s TNA Xplosion, we see another collision between former tag team partners Sarita and Taylor Wilde. The former has been on a winning streak as of late, can she continue it? Or will one half of the current tag team champions stop Sarita cold? Find out below…

First out is Sarita, in an orange, blue and black outfit. Looks good on her. Cocky as ever, she makes her way into the ring. Next out is Taylor Wilde and she’s ditched the skirt and skimpy bikini top in favor of more proper looking gear coloured blue and yellow. Nice!

NXT Redux (November 23rd, 2010): The Most Shocking Elimination Ever

Normally this space is reserved for what either previously happened on NXT or what is going to happen tonight. I have not a clue at this point which it is because our little web show that could left me truly stunned for the first time ever last night. AJ‘s elimination basically sent shockwaves through the WWE Universe and I, for one, was completely blindsided and shocking overcome with emotion. I don’t know AJ personally but her goodbye speech last night was one of the most heartfelt things I’ve ever seen in my life. She truly wanted to be part of the WWE and honestly, she deserves it. She’s stated time and time again that wrestling is her passion; that being a WWE Diva has been her dream since she was a little girl. Watching AJ walk up the ramp in tears last night and embrace Primo really did bring out my girl emotions and those emotions are overflowing right now as I relive this moment. Perhaps it’s my emo Simple Plan music playing in the background. Or maybe it’s due to the fact that I’m just highly emotional right now but AJ leaving NXT is a stunning miscarriage of justice.

Lets take a look at how the night unfolded.

In keeping with tradition, NXT opened up with Matt Striker looking flawless in the middle of the ring. He announced the rookie girls and Kaitlyn, Naomi, and AJ walked out to the ring. As they entered, each girl bent down and selected an air horn which meant that a challenge was looming on the horizon. That was indeed the case as Striker announced that WWE Trivia was about to commence. He ran down how the contest would work and told each girl in the ring that there would be no immunity tonight. Everyone would be fair game and the contest got underway. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how this went. AJ dominated the competion and basically answered every question right but one. That lone one hundred points went to Naomi. The ending tally was in AJ’s favor. She had 1300 points, while Naomi had 100, and Kaitlyn had zero. Striker announced AJ as the winner and told Kaitlyn to hang out inside the ring because she would be in action against Nikki Bella next.
