Winners & Losers: RAW 12/16/19

Just one night removed from the women main eventing their third (technically fourth if you count Extreme Rules) pay-per-view of the year and we have a clear picture of the RAW Women’s Championship landscape.

Becky Lynch would have a sit down interview backstage with Charly Caruso where she was asked how she is handling her TLC loss. Her response reflected on her not being herself over the past few months as she has been placed in the tag team division rather than defending her own title. The title she hasn’t defending since October in Hell in Cell. She states:

“At first, I thought the powers that be were trying to bury me. Then I realized that it’s something much worse. They’re trying to protect me.”

The powers that be may feel that she can’t beat Asuka and Lynch agreed that after last night they may be right. She would sit Asuka at the top of the division and state how all of her wins against her have proved that she is the best. She would then would look right into the camera and said that Asuka is the one person she hasn’t been able to beat. She needs to prove something to herself by beating her.

This is mostly likely the lead up to Lynch vs. Asuka for the RAW Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble event next month. Frankly this makes the most sense since both women are prior winners of the Royal Rumble so they aren’t needed in that match.

As far as the one match that was given on RAW tonight it was Asuka facing a surprising face in that of Deonna Purrazzo of NXT. What makes this choice rather surprising is Purrazzo hasn’t even been featured on NXT television, but it was a nice treat to see her in action. The match wasn’t the longest as expected but at the same time it wasn’t a fast 30 second squash either. It was a nice outing for her. Asuka obviously walked away with the victory.

Other than the one women’s match and the Becky Lynch promo we witnessed a new vignette for Liv Morgan. The video saw her in a bathroom with a voice over that says she has been reflecting on the person she has been. She has stated that she always wanted to feel comfortable in her own skin instead of being told by others how to be. She would enter a bathtub and end the vignette by saying that she will have to destroy herself in order to for the real her to emerge.

We also had the Days of Our Lives continuation and next segment of the Lana/Bobby Lashley saga. Lana told Lashley to propose to her and he did. He would comment that she is the best women’s wrestler in the entire WWE history.

For the Winners & Losers there really wasn’t enough substance to produce any losers. Even Lana got engaged so that’s winning, right? What was presented for the women tonight wasn’t bad. Everything was enjoyable it just wasn’t enough.

Liv is a winner because as long as we don’t receive three months of vignettes (the Royal Rumble should be the latest her return should last) her return is highly anticipated. Deonna was a winner because she had a match against the top woman in the company. Asuka continued to look strong as she has been. There wasn’t any further friction between Zelina Vega and Andrade so there is no loss for a break up, for now. Becky presented a stellar promo.

The biggest loss is that for the past couple of months the fans continue to only get one women’s match on a three hour show. Perhaps if they didn’t have an hour long Gauntlet Match for the men that resulted in a no contest then maybe they would have time to put on more women’s matches/segments. We can only focus so much on the fact that a few women are out of action right now because they aren’t even using all the ones they current have.

What were your thoughts on this week’s RAW? Who do you think Liv is going to feud with when she returns? Did you enjoy seeing Deonna on RAW? Are you feeling Becky vs. Asuka? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Discussion Post: RAW 12/16/19

Tonight is the first RAW after the TLC pay-per-view and although there was only one women’s match at that event it certainly had everyone talking. In a hellacious TLC main event match, The Kabuki Warriors would retain their Women’s Tag Team Championship against Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. In the end, Asuka climbed the ladder … Read more

Discussion Post: TLC 12/15/19

The TLC pay-per-view is tonight starting at 7 p.m. ET and at the time of this writing there is only one women’s bout on the card. Despite this disappointing fact it should be a good outing with these four women. The Kabuki Warriors are defending their Women’s Tag Team Titles against Charlotte Flair and Becky … Read more

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 12/13/19

The last show before the TLC pay-per-view is over and it did absolutely nothing for the women of SmackDown. In fact, as of now we don’t have a SmackDown Women’s Championship match for TLC still.

Of course we know that a match can be announced at any moment without it being televised but it was a missed opportunity. In fact – Lacey Evans wasn’t even on the show to officially challenge Bayley.

Who was on the show though was Dana Brooke who continues to get way more air time then she ever did on RAW. She has a decent non-title match with Bayley but of course comes out with a loss.

Just as predicted Fire & Desire had a tag team match against Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross. The best part of this whole interaction was that Fire & Desire ran to the back and attacked Bliss & Cross prior to the start of the match.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1205659795686068225

For a moment it appeared that they were being given the momentum for a win, but alas in the end Cross would pin Sonya Deville after a neckbreaker.

Let’s get into the Winners & Losers of the night:

WINNER: Dana Brooke

Dana may not have won her match but she is finally being utilized pretty regularly for what it’s worth. Personally it would be nice if she would receive a title match for a change. In a WWE Exclusive, Bayley comments that Dana has been the only one to accept a challenge. It is a long shot but it would be nice to see her vs. Bayley at TLC.

LOSER: Lacey Evans

For whatever reason the ball has been dropped. It could be possible that something may have caused her to not be on Smackdown this week that was out of everyone’s control. However, not having the potential challenger for a title before a pay-per-view present doesn’t look good. Regardless if she was there or not the match could have at least been booked.

LOSERS: Fire & Desire

What makes them being placed on the losers list even worse is that there was a glimpse of hope they would pull out a win. Their early attack prior to the match getting underway was a quick excitement. A quick excitement that quickly burned out as quickly as the match lasted.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1205660560114814977

If the booking was better they would make a point to this feud. Mandy Rose has been saying that Nikki and Alexa will never be as pretty as her for months now. We get it.

If this feud had perhaps a number one contender implication it could happen on the Kick Off show at TLC. Then again, we would know that outcome.

Alexa Bliss vs. Becky Lynch Tables Match SmackDown Women’s Title: TLC 12/04/16

WWE’s TLC pay-per-view event is this Sunday on Dec. 15. In honor of this upcoming event which will see The Kabuki Warriors defend their Women’s Tag Team Championship against Charlotte Flair & Becky Lynch let’s go back a few years to 2016.

During this year it was an exciting time for the women of SmackDown and the roster would famously become known as the SmackDown Six. Two of these six, Alexa Bliss and Becky Lynch went one-on-one in a Tables Match for the SmackDown Women’s Title.

2016 was also the starting year for this championship. Lynch was the inaugural champion heading into this match. She would fail to retain her belt as Bliss would powerbomb the Irish Lass Kicker through a table to win her first title in WWE.

Ten things to help AEW’s Women’s Division

As a fan of AEW, one of my biggest gripes with the company has been its delivery of their women’s division. So far it felt lost and confused with little direction and purpose. Winners & Losers: SmackDown 11/29/19

This week’s Friday Night SmackDown certainly had its moments for the women’s division. Coming off a Survivor Series loss, SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley and Sasha Banks addressed their fellow colleagues in disgust. The one to answer their tirade was Lacey Evans.

The only match of this week’s show was between Sonya Deville and Nikki Cross. The match itself was short but with Cross pulling off a victory it led to the return of Alexa Bliss.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1200599757669851136?s=20

For the full rundown of the show, you can head over to the live coverage that you can view here.

Here are the Winners & Losers from this week’s SmackDown:

WINNER: Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss made her return and although it wasn’t entirely a surprise it puts her as a big win. Bliss is scheduled to be in a Fatal 4-way this weekend at Starrcade on Sunday, so her reemergence was expected. She was last seen almost two months ago at Hell in a Cell and has been nursing a shoulder injury since.

WINNER: Lacey Evans

Lacey Evans received the biggest win of the week. Although it hasn’t been confirmed that she is Bayley’s next challenger for the title it can be assumed. The face turn for her still remains to be seen on how good it will work, but it is a start. She received a decent reaction from the crowd as well.

Although personally, Evans wouldn’t be my first choice for the next opponent for Bayley, at least it isn’t the same Nikki Cross/Alexa Bliss feud that has been done way too much. More than likely it is only going to be a temporary feud as I don’t see Bayley losing the title until at least WrestleMania.

LOSER: Bayley

Bayley’s heel persona fell big this week. Generally, I feel like her heel turn has been working even if it is a little lackluster. This week however was not a good way to build the champion up especially after a loss at Survivor Series.

After Lacey took down Sasha Banks her bestie simply stood there. It is not a good look for the SmackDown women’s division to have a champion who doesn’t have that fire. She should have won at Survivor Series in order to further her character development.

Final Thoughts:

Sasha Banks could use her own feud and break away some from Bayley. It looks like this could be Carmella. And if nothing comes from this, it should.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1200596925210214400?s=20

I am not opposed to Lacey being Bayley’s next opponent, especially as it may just be a one-off to get to the Royal Rumble. However, this was the perfect time to give Dana Brooke her moment. With her Twitter romance with Batista, Brooke is the talk of wrestling social media right now.

They could have built off of this and had Brooke as the one to come out to confront Bayley and Sasha instead of Lacey. Instead, she was just provided with a backstage segment with Drake Maverick trying to give her a little smoochy smooch. Missed opportunity and we all know Dana loves her opportunities.

Winners & Losers: NXT 11/27/19

After a huge WarGames/Survivor Series weekend, there was a lot to unpack on NXT this week. Although we didn’t get an answer from Dakota Kai on why she turned on her best friend – Tegan Nox – she was in action against Candice LeRae. LeRae was part of Team Ripley who was left high and dry when Kai decided to take out Nox.

All three women have been really close friends which has caused LeRae to take the attack on Nox rather personal. Kai entered her match tonight with new music and a new theme marking her heel turn. The match between Kai and LeRae was a really good battle. The match ended in a DQ however when Kai hit LeRae over the head with Nox’s knee brace.

Kai stayed on LeRae after the bell rang and her intention was to clearly take her out of commission much as she did to Nox at WarGames. Rhea Ripley would rush down to the ring to stop the attack and cause Kai to retreat.

The second match of the night was Vanessa Borne taking on Xia Li to seek some retribution on what happened to her tag team partner Aliyah.

The match would be rather short as NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler along with Marina Shafir & Jessamyn Duke would make their way down to ringside. Li would be distracted for just a moment, but she would still secure a fast victory over Borne.

After Li put away Borne, Baszler and the other two would attack. Shafir and Duke would attack first as Li took them out pretty quickly. She would fight off Baszler at first but the numbers game was simply too much as they were able to take out Li.

Baszler would then boast about how she was the big star over this past weekend. She gloated that she took out both Bayley and Becky Lynch and did it at the same time. Enter Rhea Ripley. Ripley would make her way to the ring but by the time she entered the ring Baszler and the other two would be retreating up the ramp. Ripley took to the mic and asked for Baszler to return because she wanted to talk to her face to face.

Baszler would make her way back and stand on the ring apron. Ripley would congratulate her. She did defeat Bayley. She did defeat Becky Lynch. There was one woman she didn’t beat and that was Ripley. Ripley said the next time she battles Baszler it is going to be for the title and she suggested they do it right then and there. Baszler wasn’t having it as she made her way back up the ramp.

Here are your Winners & Losers of the week:

WINNER: Dakota Kai

https://twitter.com/TeganNoxWWE_/status/1199893219884044289?s=20

Overall Kai was a winner this week. Her heel turn is going to take some convincing to people as she is a natural babyface. For me personally, I think she is doing a great job to start. She may not have picked up the win in her match but she did cause the DQ. She stayed on LeRae as well after the match. My only complaint would be that she didn’t cut any type of promo, but hopefully, that will take place in the weeks to come.

WINNER: Rhea Ripley

Ripley pretty much confirmed that she is the number one contender for Baszler’s title which makes her a big winner. After the week she has had as well she not only deserves to get the title shot but she will most likely win. Something tells me it isn’t going to be right away though. Her promo with Baszler was really good also. I feel like they bring the best out of each other.

LOSER: Xia Li

Li may have won her match in a quick fashion much as she did against Aliyah but her being taken out afterward did her no good. It actually didn’t make much sense either besides for Baszler just to take someone out in order to cut her promo.

Final Thoughts:

Overall they touched on the fallout from WarGames and Survivor Series, but I feel like they could have done even more with the women this week. To be honest, I was worried for a moment we weren’t even going to get two women’s matches. The Kai and LeRae match was great and although I understand and accept why the match ended in a DQ I personally don’t like it when good matches end in that fashion.

I really enjoy Vanessa Borne and wish she was being used more than just a jobber. Her theme is great and so is her look. It was great to see her in a match tonight, but that alone wasn’t enough to make her a winner.
