Hikaru Shida defeats Nyla Rose to win the AEW Women’s World Title

Hikaru Shida has defeated Nyla Rose to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion at Double or Nothing. The match was a No Disqualification/No Count-Out stipulation which seemed to favor Rose at first. A match involving kendo sticks and tables is right in her wheelhouse. Early in the match proved this point as Rose started the match with a kendo stick and followed it up with putting Shida through a poker table.

The physical match-up saw both women utilizing the surrounding props and effectively telling their story. Shida gains momentum mid-match with a running knee dive into Rose who went crashing into the poker chips at ringside.

Before the end of the match, Shida threw the stick at Rose’s head as the two were on the top turnbuckle. Shida would then hit a falcon arrow for a near fall. Rose then battles back with a kendo stick by hitting Shida’s leg only to have Shida hit a forearm into a sliding knee for another two count.

In the end, Shida hits Rose over the head with a kendo stick followed by a shining wizard to get the pin and win the gold for the first time.

Shida was close to competing in the inaugural championship match on the debut of Dynamite but was defeated by Riho. Riho would go on to face Rose and became the first champion for the organization. Rose then defeated Riho in February.
