Mickie James vs. Serena TNA Knockouts Knockdown 3/17/13

In this Free Match Friday we take you back to 2013 at TNA’s One Night Only, Knockouts Knockdown.

This event saw matches that you wouldn’t necessarily see and this was one of them. The match highlighted the back and forth athleticism of these two women. Serena’s short stint with WWE in 2010 didn’t accentuate her true talent.

The Four Horsewomen riding high into a new era

This week we said farewell to SmackDown Live as the show moves from USA to FOX on Oct. 4. After years being nothing more than a RAW recap show SmackDown Live was launched in 2016 with a full brand split, separate championships, and superstar draft. The show quickly became a favourite for the “hardcore” fan … Read more

IMPACT Wrestling lists memorable wedding moments

IMPACT Wrestling is about to embark on another wedding moment as Melissa Santos and IMPACT World Champion, Brian Cage celebrates their pending nuptials. The couple in real life married in July, but on-screen their engagement took place just a couple of weeks ago.

As a result of this exciting news, IMPACT Wrestling has compiled their top five list of wildest weddings in the history of the company. Here is what they came up with:

Credit: TNA/IMPACT Wrestling

5. ODB & Eric Young

As the very last TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions, ODB and Eric Young met each other in the ring to tie the knot. The engagement took place after the two won the tag titles. Young would become the only man in history to win a women’s title for the company.

After their win, ODB accepted the proposal. They would defend their titles multiple times before being stripped of the title due to Young being a man after a 478-day reign. They would even defend the title in a steel cage match at Lockdown against Sarita and Rosita. The titles were retired after their reign.

4. Brooke Hogan & Bully Ray

This wedding took part during perhaps the longest drawn out stable in wrestling history – Aces & Eights. During the ceremony, Tazz would interrupt the ceremony revealing he was a member of that stable. They would attack Ray and Hulk Hogan. It would later be revealed that Ray was actually the President of Aces & Eights turning his back on the Hogans.

3. SoCal Val & Jay Lethal

This wedding would break down as Sonjay Dutt, Lethal’s best friend, had something to say during the ceremony. He admitted he had feelings for Val and that it should be him and not Lethal that marries her. Dutt would then attack Lethal.

After the attack, Dutt would find himself in a terrible position as Jake Roberts would unleash a snake on him. Val would leave crying heading up the ramp.

2. Karen & Jeff Jarrett

The Jarretts would renew their vows, but their ceremony wouldn’t end blissfully. Kurt Angle was forced to walk down Karen down the aisle after losing a match to Jeff. With her being Angle’s real-life ex-wife the sheer humiliation was enough to make him snap.

After the ceremony was concluded, Angle would retrieve an axe and destroy the set causing the couple to retreat.

1.Laurel Van Ness & Braxton Sutter

Van Ness and Sutter would start an on-screen relationship that led to their wedding. At the ceremony, Sutter couldn’t take it anymore and would get into a verbal altercation with Maria. He would profess his love for Allie (his real-life wife).

This would result as the end of Ness’ relationship with Saxton. She would then move to her maniacal “psychotic bride” gimmick

Winners & Losers: SmackDown 09/24/19

The last SmackDown Live on the USA Network is in the rearview window and as of next week, the blue brand will be live on Fridays on the Fox Network. On this weeks show they had all Four Horsewomen, the 24/7 Champion Carmella, and a match for the tag team division.

As of this writing and after this week’s SmackDown we still don’t have a title match for the SmackDown Women’s Title at Hell in a Cell. It wouldn’t make sense for it to be anyone besides Flair, Carmella, or both, but with the pay-per-view being only a week from Sunday we will find out soon enough.

The first women’s match of the night was advertised heading into the show. The newly crowned 24/7 Champion Carmella and Charlotte Flair took on Sasha Banks and SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bayley. This was as a result of Carmella making the save for Flair last week and making the odds even.

https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1176662659757957120?s=20

Carmella started off the match strong against Banks until she found herself tossed outside the ring. Bayley would take the tag and continue the attack on perhaps her now-former friend. Banks and Bayley would isolate Carmella from her corner throughout the first half of the match. Once Flair was tagged in, she dominated the SmackDown Women’s Champion. After a pin attempt from Carmella, the match would end with her tapping out to the Bank Statement.

The women’s locker room would then run out to chase Carmella and R-Truth out into the crowd. The aftermath sees Banks and Bayley attacking Flair. Becky Lynch would come out for the save as she attacks the pair and locks in the Dis-Arm-Her on her Hell in a Cell competitor. Bayley would pull Banks out of the ring getting her out of the submission and they retreat up the ramp.

The second match of the night was Fire & Desire going against The Kabuki Warriors in tag team competition. The match included Mandy Rose boasting about being on the cover of Maxim magazine. She would continue her bullying ways as she mocks Kairi Sane saying she will never look like her. The match was decent but short. Sane would pick up the win for her team as she hit the Insane Elbow on Rose to pick up the pin.

This has propelled The Kabuki Warriors to the front of the line for a match against the Women’s Tag Team Champions. Nikki Cross comments on Twitter about their victory.

https://twitter.com/NikkiCrossWWE/status/1176676423764983808?s=20

The show would end with the women! Becky Lynch is being interviewed backstage by Kayla Braxton. Within moments of her responding to Braxton’s question, Sasha Banks would attack her from behind.

Banks would be the one standing after this attack as SmackDown goes off the air.

WINNERS: The Kabuki Warriors

After weeks of not being on our television screens, The Kabuki Warriors have remerged and with a victory. At this time there is not a Women’s Tag Team Title match scheduled for Hell in a Cell, but this could lead to one.

It still may be too early to take the belts off Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss, but at least the titles are being used more.

WINNER: Sasha Banks

Becky Lynch has been still looking strong in this feud with Banks returning. It is nice to see the power shift from show to show. At the end of this week, Banks stands strong as the winner. Her attack on Lynch ending SmackDown was a great way to go. It will be interesting to see who will end next week heading into Hell in a Cell with the odds in their favor.

It has been announced that next week on SmackDown’s debut on the Fox Network that we will see the Four Horsewomen in a rematch from a few weeks ago. Lynch and Flair will team up to face Banks and Bayley. Perhaps they should have held off the attack at the end of the show for next week, but maybe they should pull the trigger and make this the main event on their move to Fox.

LOSERS: Fire & Desire

A loss for them did the complete opposite the win did for The Kabuki Warriors. Unfortunately with such a small tag team division only so much can be done. Although it is good to see The Kabuki Warriors again, this means that Fire & Desire’s short feud with the tag champs seems to be already over.

What were your thoughts on this week’s SmackDown? Who were your Winners & Losers? Discuss your thoughts in the comment section.

Winners & Losers: RAW 09/23/19

We are less than two weeks away from the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view and all eyes are on Sasha Banks and RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch. It was announced last week that these two will face each other inside a Hell in a Cell at the event which marks it as just the second time in history that the women’s division has seen this type of match.

The representation for the women’s roster was great again this week, however, there was a head-scratcher moment. Before that occurs, we see the advertised match for RAW which was Sasha Banks facing one-half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions – Nikki Cross.

The match itself was clunky for the first half. The crowd was so silent that you could have heard a pin drop which didn’t help matters. Luckily the match picked up midway and the length of the match was good. There were moments where it looked like Cross was going to pull out the win, but The Boss was one step ahead of her. With her best friend, SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley at ringside was enough of a distraction for Cross.

After the match, Banks would lock in the Bank Statement on Bliss. This has set up next week’s bout on the season premiere of RAW which will be Banks vs. Bliss.

Becky Lynch would have a sit-down interview with Michael Cole prior to this match. The RAW Women’s Champion would state that she wants Sasha Banks at the top of her game. The “hot streak” that Banks is on is exactly what Lynch wants to see. She confirms that the Hell in a Cell match is to keep Banks in so there is nowhere for her to run.

The head-scratcher mentioned earlier was the match between Lacey Evans and Ember Moon. The match itself was good, with a nice spot from Moon executing a stunner from the ring apron to the outside. What is confusing is why is Moon now losing on both shows? Natalya looks on backstage to show that her feud with Evans isn’t over, however, literally any other female on the RAW roster could have faced Evans.

As reported earlier, Carmella is the new 24/7 Champion. She would roll up her ride or die partner R-Truth to become champ. Truth wouldn’t have any hard feelings as he would celebrate with her before helping her escape from her female counterparts as they chase her out of the arena.

All of the women’s segments were in correlation with each other, so it was nice to see a good block of women’s representation on RAW.

WINNER: Carmella

Carmella picks up the big win tonight by FINALLY becoming the 24/7 Champion. Many fans feel that she should have been the first female champion as a result of her partnership with R-Truth. Alas, that didn’t occur but better late than never.

If they allow her to keep the title or at least maybe go back and forth like Truth has done this can open up the door for many other women winning the title. Could we finally see Dana Brooke, Sarah Logan, or even *gasp* Tamina win their first title in WWE?

Currently, Carmella has also inserted herself into Bayley’s business on SmackDown as she made the save for Charlotte Flair last week. It is interesting to see how that is going to play out as she will team up with Flair on SmackDown this week to take on Bayley and Banks.

LOSER: Ember Moon

Poor Ember. There was absolutely no reasoning to have her on RAW this week. The match was decent and Lacey Evans has actually looked better in the ring as of late, but what has that done for Moon? She is now just losing on both shows.

The direction for Moon is non-existant. From someone who was just in a title match at SummerSlam, there hasn’t been much to write home to mom about. This match against Evans could have been Dana Brooke again. At least she is on RAW. It would get her in the ring more and even if she lost it would have made more sense.

What were your thoughts on this week’s RAW? Who were your Winners & Losers? What did you like or dislike?

Alundra Blayze talks on the pay gap and fighting for gender equality

WWE Hall of Famer, Alundra Blayze (also known as Madusa) recently sat down with Ring the Belle’s DS Shin for an incredible interview. They went over her fan-voted top five moments, which included the gap between what male and female wrestlers make as far as their wages. The topic was brought up as they were reviewing her WCW Scaffold match alongside Billy Kidman vs. Torrie Wilson and Shane Douglas.

After commenting on the bump she took from the scaffold she had the following to say:

“That is a crazy bump. That’s off the scaffold. A woman jumping and doing that and getting paid jack. Don’t even get me started, when it comes to money in my industry and the women and equality. That situation needs to come up more. Let’s talk about equality. I understand it’s still and always has been a male’s business. But now there’s more and more women and now they are making it, a woman’s done WrestleMania. Top billing, pay-per-views, ladder matches, okay it’s like we have all of that out there. Put it in my paycheck.”

Credit: WWE

She further agrees with Shin that there is always room for change and wants the women to not only get paid more but there is still a fight for equality as a whole.

Blayze also discusses her iconic move from WWF to WCW at the time with her infamous trashing of the WWF Women’s Championship into a trash can. This was most recently brought up again as a joke when Blayze won the 24/7 Championship at the recent RAW Reunion in July. She mocked throwing it away before Ted Dibiase would instead buy it off of her.

Credit: WWE

She discusses how she felt that the move to WCW was going to be a focus on women’s wrestling, however, this wasn’t the exact case.

“When I was coming over and that happened I was ready to kill it. I was serious. If they’re (WWF) not going to do anything with me then I need to say, hey, this is where the big girls play. Let’s do something. That was the idea. They were going to want to do something, bring women’s wrestling, and get the whole thing going. And again it laid flat because we had a bunch of men in the damn back in their circle-jerking office booking the thing. It just didn’t happen. There was no women in that booking.”

She wanted to make a statement with women’s wrestling in WCW because she felt that it was deserving and was needed. It worked well for a while but after the competition faded out it was hard to continue.

Shin brought into the discussion her return to the ring at Evolution where she participated in the battle royal match. Blayze would explain how and why she was eliminated in the fashion that she was.

“So you know why I went out like that (how she was eliminated)? I just want to tell everybody, there’s a lot of things that people don’t know. So people will put you down, they’ll do negativity, but no one knows the backstory of anything that’s going on in anybody’s life. I just want you to know, that in that match, I was only seven months post-surgery. I had a double knee replacement. Nobody knew that, and there you go.”

To check out the full interview simply click on the video above. They go over all of her fan-voted top-five moments. This includes her thoughts on intergender wrestling, the trash can incident, and her seeing Vince McMahon for the first time since that incident at her Hall of Fame induction.
