Arguably the top independent female wrestler of 2010, Mercedes Martinez had quite the year. Continuing her WSU World Championship reign, working SHIMMER and NCW Femmes Fatales, as well as debuting for River City Wrestling in Texas, Mercedes was everywhere. Now in 2011, she’s set to kick off her wrestling year with a bang this Saturday, facing Angel Orsini in a ‘Winner Take All’ ladder match on iPPV for the WSU World and All Guts, No Glory Championships.
We catch up with Mercedes to look back at her noteworthy 2010 and her plans for 2011. Mercedes also clarifies a report here on Diva Dirt last year about her heading to AAA in Mexico, and whether she’s at all interested in WWE Tough Enough.

After a week of withdrawal, on this week’s edition of Raw, Diva fans were treated to the match we should have gotten last week: Maryse vs Natalya in a non-title bout. In what I assume is an attempt to make up for the lack of Divas last week, we also got Melina and Eve on guest commentary. Can the third generation Diva and the French-Canadian beauty put on a five star match? Will Melina and Eve get feisty at ringside? Check out the match below and find out:
Out first to the ring first is Maryse, who’s looking fantastic. During her entrance, Cole introduces Eve and an oddly silent Milena, who are ringside on commentary. Next out is Natalya, who practically runs to the ring. Are we short on Diva time already? In the meantime, Cole uses his journalistic prowess to get to the bottom of the issues between Melina and Natalya and is rewarded with icy cold silence from the #1 Contender. Awkward… Cutting his losses, Cole turns his questioning to Eve and brings up the tag match two weeks ago that saw Eve pick up the win over Melina. Eve smoothly deflects the question by talking about thrilled she is to be at ringside for this match. Sure you are…

Diva Soup was one of our most popular audio shows here at Diva Dirt, and since it abruptly ended back in September (blame Steven — we do!) we have been inundated by fans calling for its return. Though the show won’t be returning in its original form, we are going to introduce something very similar and are looking for fresh new voices to join our growing audio team.

Los Angeles, CA. – Changes had to be made to the announced WILD World Championship match last night at Pro Wrestling Entertainment in Los Angeles. Tabitha Buck, young cousin of TNA’s Generation Me, was unable to appear. “The Bloodthirsty Vixen” Amanda, who happened to be in the audience at the show, offered to take Tab’s place. WILD Owner Travis Leland allowed Amanda to be in the match, but could not allow it to be for the title.
“She’s lost every WILD match she’s been in,” said Leland. “I can’t let her have a title shot before the women who beat her get theirs.”
The match was fast and furious, with many lucha-libre-inspired moves. At one point, O’Shea pulled off a running hurricanrana, sending Amanda crashing to the mat. Amanda, however was noticeably larger and more powerful than the champion. Near the end of the match, as Amanda was in control of the firey redhead and the referee was distracted, O’Shea grabbed a nearby energy drink can and cracked Amanda in the head with it. With her opponent dizzied by the blow, Lucky rolled up Amanda for the victory.

Diva Dirt reader Brandon sent along his report from the Anarchy Championship Wrestling show last night, which featured a huge 10,000 Tacks Match between Athena and Rachel Summerlyn. Later, Lady Poison defeated Portia Perez to become the new ACW American Joshi Champion in a Dog Collar Match.
Check out his report and pictures below:
Athena vs. Rachel Summerlyn – 10,000 Thumbtacks Match. HOLY S%#$!!!!! You talk about the Daffney taking crazy bumps. Well after seeing this match, You can do nothing else but to condole these two woman wrestlers by going through the punishment. Rachel is highly known for these death-style matches, so it was expected for her, and not Athena. Athena in person is H-O-T!! As for the match, to me, it was my pick of the two Joshi matches. Crazy spots on the tacks from both women, like Athena snapmaring Rachel on the tacks, Athena diving through the ropes on Rachel through chairs, Rachel hitting her signature Gory Bomb on Athena through the tacks, then pulling the Texas Cloverleaf on Athena on the tacks, but Athena’s Submission Squad buddies interfered, and broke up the hold. The end happened when Athena jumped from the stage on Rachel through a barbed-wire table full of tumbtacks with diving double knees on Rachel’s face, and got the three count.

The title itself should explain the theme of tonight’s Redux. This week’s edition of Friday night SmackDown truly was good, bad, and ugly. But before we jump to conclusions, lets take a minute to reflect on the week in wrestling in general. There was a horrific match at TNA Genesis (popular consensus, of course. I, myself, have not watched it). There was an axed Diva’s match from Raw and lets face it, that’s not always a bad thing. Superstars saw the underused and underrated Alicia Fox and Gail Kim square off in a match that many people are saying is one of the most enjoyable matches in awhile (again, I have not seen it). And to cap things off, SmackDown delivered.
And it delivered in a truly ridiculously wonderful way.
To kick us off this week, we’re going to launch right into the good. That’s the whole point of good, bad, and ugly right? Michelle McCool (with Layla at ringside) taking on Beth Phoenix looks damn good on paper. It certainly looked brilliant when I saw the spoilers earlier in the week. The question is, did it deliver?
Lay-Cool, aka the Dynamic Duo, make their way to the ring first. Layla is rocking a hot, blue mini-dress and boots, while Michelle is in her green ring attire that I don’t like very much. They’re still carrying their Slammys and they’re still delicious heels. They play to the crowd as only they can and they get inside the ring to wait for Michelle’s opponent, the one and only Glamazon. Beth walks out in a rather plain Glamasuit but the crowd doesn’t care because they’re in Birmingham. No offense to my fellow Alabamians, but the majority of the state isn’t really up to par fashion wise. I am the exception. Anyway, once Beth is inside the ring and her entrance dies down, the bell rings and the match begins. The two statue-esque blonds circle one another. Beth gains the early advantage when she breaks the lock-up and forces Michelle into the turnbuckle. She drives her shoulder repeatedly into Michelle’s mid-section and follows up with several nice punches to the former school teacher’s skull. Beth finally backs off and Michelle moves from the corner, but she’s still positioned by the ropes. Beth whips her across the ring and takes her down by clubbing her in the chest.
