Serena Deeb Submits Anna Jay, Athena & Statlander Set For AEW Rampage

AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest Week 1 featured Serena Deeb taking on Anna Jay in singles action.

As expected, the bout featured lots of back and forth with technical work at play from “The Professor.” Deeb’s Serenity Lock would land her the victory over Jay. But when Deeb kept the hold in past the bell, ROH Women’s World Champion Mercedes Martinez ran down to make the save.

As noted, it has been made official that Deeb will challenge Martinez for the ROH title at ROH Death Before Dishonor on July 23.

Anna Jay was later seen backstage getting her knee checked out when former tag team partner Tay Conti walked up. Conti, who turned heel with Sammy Guevara, mocked Jay’s injury and lack of TV time. Jay criticized Conti for slamming Ruby Soho’s hand in the car door before Conti ended the exchange by advising Jay to “make better choices” for her career.

The Baddies were once again featured in a backstage segment. During their appearance, it was revealed that Athena and Kris Statlander will team up on Friday’s Rampage. Their opponents are unknown as of this writing.

As for the AEW Women’s World Championship scene, Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm stated in a backstage interview that they’re ready for anyone. Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter walked up and made it clear that they’re ready to clash with the ThunderStorm. Also of note, Rebel walked up with a sandbag to poke fun at the “sandbagging” drama between Rosa and Marina Shafir.

Progression in the AEW women’s division continues to be slow this summer despite several top male stars being out of action. They’re also balancing the ROH title picture in the mix of AEW’s two women’s championships.
