Diva Dirt presents its third annual Writers’ Choice Awards, the awards that celebrate the year in women’s wrestling, as decided by the editors and contributors of Diva Dirt. The Diva Dirt team has watched hundreds of episode of wrestling television this year, followed a countless number of wrestlers and reviewed tons of matches. Now, as we come to the end of 2013, we have picked the best of the best to be awarded our Writers’ Choice trophies.
Best Heel: Stephanie McMahon
If there was ever a female in wrestling that epitomized the very definition of a dominant, bitchy heel, it’s hands down Stephanie McMahon. Since the infamous Attitude Era, this woman has been capturing our attention and blowing our minds every time she graces our TVs with her stage presence and “it” factor.
It was a shock, a surprise and — honestly — a breath of fresh air when the McMahon heiress returned to television full-time earlier this year. Alongside her hubby Triple H, Stephanie has been a thorn in the side of the WWE Universe since taking over the company. She has wreaked havoc and destruction among the locker room, ruling with an iron fist and trying to manipulate all of us into believing she has our best interests at heart. Stephanie has stolen the show with every segment and every angle she has taken part in, giving all of us someone to love/hate all the same time.
What’s so impressive about Stephanie is how she hasn’t missed a beat. She is still that girl who broke the heart of the late Test and aligned with Triple H to form the McMahon-Helmsley Era that kicked off the whirlwind of the aforementioned Attitude Era and changed the face of wrestling forever.
Despite her role backstage and role at home being a wife and mother of three small children, Stephanie continues to set an incredibly high standard for powerful women in the wrestling business. She’s had quite a number of memorable moments since coming back but her destruction of the Big Show really stands out, as well an amazing segment with Divas Champion AJ Lee that left many of us holding our breath and begging for more. Stephanie’s momentum doesn’t seem to be showing down, either.
Thanks to their “chosen one” Randy Orton and their enforcer Kane, Stephanie and Triple H have more control than ever before and something tells me that their reign if tyranny is far from over. It’s almost scary to think of what Stephanie and Triple H could have in store for 2014, but one thing is for sure: it’s going to be one hell of a wild ride as we find out.
Stay tuned for more Writers’ Choice Award reveals over the next few days.
