NXT Watch (February 27th, 2013): Aksana Attempts to Tame the Dancing Queen

Good day everyone, and welcome to this weeks NXT Watch. Now if you haven’t been checking out the program as of late, you’ve been missing some good stuff involving both Summer Rae and Paige’s as well as Audrey Marie and Sasha Banks’ feuds. Unfortunately, neither got any spotlight on tonight’s show. Now since we’ve been getting so much as of late, I’ll accept a week off without kicking and screaming and throwing a temper tantrum, and that decision may be based on the fact that while they are missing, we get some Emma dancing heading our way as she takes on Aksana in singles action. A win for the plucky dancing underdog would do wonder for both her WWE career and my overall happiness, but will that actually happen? There’s only one way to find out for sure…

The sound of some sultry sexy sax music plays, as out walks Aksana looking ready to go. She slowly steps into the ring and poses a little, before being interrupted by the perky, upbeat tune of our resident dancing queen, Emma! Emma sways her hips in true awkward drunk girl fashion, which leaves Aksana quite unimpressed. She tries to flip her way into the ring, but she sadly falls and doesn’t make it. Never one to be phased though, she keeps on dancing and finally makes it inside! Aksana continues to look slightly confused and afraid, as the bell rings and we get underway.

Aksana with a kick to the abdomen to start off, before sending Emma flying into the corner and crawling around the ring. She slams Emma back down again, but she’s soon called off as Emma climbs outside the ropes and I think throws some sort of temper tantrum. She fixes her hair (shades of World of Hurt!) and finally snaps Aksana off the ropes. Emma slides back in, and after a failed pin attempt, she throws Aksana around the ring a couple of times. Emma now crawls around the ring in Aksana fashion, but the Lithuanian Lover kicks her into the turnbuckle pad and hits a pair of nice bodyslams. She follows it up with an elbow, as the crowd gets behind… someone. I assume Emma because she now gets fired up and takes Aksana to the corner.

A snapmare occurs, as she now locks in a cravate. Aksana attempts to fight out of the hold, as the crowd doesn’t seem to know who they’re supposed to chant for. Someone begins clapping for Aksana, which allows her to try and fight out again to no avail. Emma looks to go for a suplex, but does some sort of drunken looking dance. Aksana escapes and gets drilled with a boot to the face, but as Emma looks to run forward, she’s dropped with the Divo Drop to obtain the victory!

Thoughts: I’m more of a glass half full kind of guy, but I honestly can’t think of many positive things to say regarding my feelings of this match other than Emma’s entrance and the spinebuster by Aksana. There were so many things that didn’t work for me, and I don’t think it’s all entirely the girls fault.

First off, both have been portrayed as heels so to me, the crowd didn’t really know who to cheer for. That made the match seem way more slow than it should have because they were kind of silent during submissions and were unsure if they should be clapping for Emma or Aksana when both were in rest holds. I’ve sensed a pattern that NXT doesn’t seem to use the same girl for more than one match per set of tapings so I can understand that they probably wanted at least some form of Divas action on this show and both Emma and Aksana hadn’t competed prior whereas mostly everyone else had, but it put a downer on the action in my opinion.

I know that due to their backgrounds it’s probably going to be common that Aksana will be the root of this match not working out well, but I don’t think that’s the issue at all. Emma is my favorite Diva in NXT and truthfully, Aksana is my least favorite on the main roster but regardless of that feeling I think this was Aksana’s best outing in a long time. I’ve not really enjoyed her wrestling wise as of late, but here she seemed much better with what she did get to do. I really liked the bodyslams, and the spinebuster finisher was very impressive. I guess my point is that if I can look past how I feel about the two on a separate note and say this was not Aksana being the cause, everyone should be able to!

With Emma, I love her dancing don’t get me wrong. However, after tonight’s performance I think I prefer her dancing when it’s solely in her entrance and maybe brought out once in a match. The constant reverting to it did not help either female to look good out there, and it kind of made some of her movements come off a little messy to me as much as it pains me to say it. She’s so entertaining, but I think there’s a difference between it being fun and it being too much. I’m sure it gets compared to Jillian’s singing gimmick a lot. And to be honest, I think that’s a good comparison to make right now because with Jillian, she brought it out during her entrance and would maybe scream a note during the match. That’s more what Emma should do with the dancing, and until tonight it’s what she had been doing with it. Although I will say her falling from the ring ropes as she tried to flip in was so brilliant and I hope she pulls that out every once in a while.

Overall, the lack of continuation in either feud and an okay-ish match doesn’t make this one of my favorite episodes of NXT. Here’s to hoping next week is an improvement!

At least it seems like Emma is getting more accustomed to this gimmick because she applied her character pretty well in the ring! But it seems like she’s a hard time adjusting to the television style of wrestling because her non televised stuff is much better! Hopefully, she finds her niche soon!

i like Emma character, i dont know if I like Emma be the that stupid and clumsy and everything, but hey, if thats what gets you notched, then do what you gotta do

as far as the match, it wasnt the best NXT match, it was alright, and it was nice seeing Emma, and a agressive Aksana

I think Emma’s character has gone from someone who is a bit delusional and thinks there an amazing dancer to someone who has just turned up to the ring drunk. She just seems a little spaced out, not being able to get into the ring and all.

I just think shes has a bit of bad luck with the matches shes had. Her first could have been better but if i remember correctly it was really short and with this one, Askana (in my opinion) isn’t the best of workers, her style of wrestling which involves mostly holds make me loose interest.

  • k2evecrew

I actually started to believe that she was drunk when she fell off the ring apron, she didnt look to excited when she danced out to ring she wasn’t smiling or anything which made it look even more awkward.

I know people will fall upon me for saying this, but this gimmick Emma is going with at the moment sucks big time.

She is supposed to be akward, I know but everything she did there was too much and Aksana had to sell or wait for Emma to put the next akward move or do her character thing slowed the match a lot more than it should have.

I agree with Bobby that if she has to do these things then maybe once during the match.

Aksana isn’t crawling 4 minutes long either, she does it once or twice from time to time depending the situation.

What I miss with her are her kick combos and other more active moves cause it seems that after they started using her as a heel on the main roster she either jobs or out of the like 7 moves she is allowed to do, 4 are submissions (the one she used against paige still looks great though).

I don’t think that there is a person on earth that will disagree with what you said about Emma tbh. This was brutal to watch…Brutal.

  • DjayDay

Good match. However, Emma just lacks something. She’s excellent in the ring and completely adorable, but she always seems…off. Maybe it’s just me.

This match was horrible. You cant blame Aksana either because Emma controlled it really. Some people ill say she makes everyone look bad actually not. She has had good matches with Audrey, Paige, Layla, Naomi & AJ. Emma has had good matches with Athena & Del Ray so I don’t whats up with her. Maybe she’s lost her groove, her shoulder is bothering her, or she cant do what she use to but this was her fault. Also the last time she did her dance it was fun & cute.

Not a good match really, but I like how Emma is getting over with the crowd. The crowd likes this dance she does. And I think that the dance could lead her to big things.

Hmm, interesting match to say the least. I must say, I didn’t think it was very good at all. Weird that Aksana was the one who shined in this match, her offense looked really good and that was a very powerful spinebuster. Emma…I don’t know what to say. The dancing gimmick is very similar to Jillan’s in that she’s doing it very badly, but it has the potential to be a huge face gimmick for her if she does it right. Sadly, the way she is working it right now isn’t working for me as the blank expression on her face, coupled with the bad dancing an awkward movements just makes her look drugged. She needs to get happy with it, love it and accept it. It may be a silly role but it could help get her over as she’d be one the few faces with a distinguishable personalities. As for her wrestling, it’s leaving a lot to be desired. From what I’ve seen, she’s the most overrated girl on the NXT roster. Indy creds don’t mean you’re a great in ring competitor. But maybe it is just adjusting to the style and she’ll get better, fingers crossed.

Look sweetheart, spamming every damn article isn’t going to help, take your head out of your ass and explore all women promotions in the indie scene.
Like Gail Kim said, the wwe is a male dominated company there is no way they are gonna give a damn about your stupid trend. Clearly after Eve vs Kaitlyn received the highest rated segment of the night, wwe got angry because they don’t want the females to look better than the men.
So go out seek some help to overcome your obsession with the divas, b/c girl when you put Torrie Wilson in your username then you seriously need some help not only that it is hard to take you seriously too. The division is dead its over damn it either move on to better things or be stuck watching old diva matches tell you rot.

The match and Emma’s gimmick; two words-hated it!! Like I know Aksana isn’t like a Molly Holly or anything, but at least the match looked better when she had control. This match was just hard to watch. After hearing that Emma was trained by Lance Storm, I expected better.

  • sugarrush28

I don’t have much to say about the match but was that a USA chant I heard before the match started? I really hope not

  • xBananaPancake

I love Emma. But i hate her gimmick.

  • redsandman99

Bad match. It just didn’t click at all. Aksana’s spinebuster was nice though. I’m not a fan of her wrestling but she can do that pretty well.

  • https://www.facebook.com/matt.medina.75 Matt

Like Cameron & Rosa, Aksana needs to stay away from the ring!

I’m gonna admit, that entrance I LOVE IT, I am now a part of the Emmaloution!

    • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

Cameron is decent & getting better…

      • k2evecrew

Emma ruined this match. At least when Aksana had control it looked decent. & Cameron has been improving a lot they just book her like that to make Nioami look like her savior

    • iLUVValets

Cameron is a hell of lot better than m ost divas were at their in ring debut. I wish people would lay off her, she is doing the best she can, and improving fast

    • Raekon

      You can’t be serious right?
Cameron, Aksana and Rosa had much better matches than this and it was clearly Emmas fault that the match was more bad then good.

If it wasn’t for Aksanas offence the match would had totally sucked.

  • aldo

The match was good. Neither of them are the best wrestlers but they did pretty well. I love Aksana because she is incredibly charismatic and entertains me a lot. About Emma, she needs to be a little be less “drunked”. I laughed when she felt during her entrance, and a little when she danced during the match, but when she felt again and danced again…not that much. However I can see I bright future for her in WWE.

  • divaindemise

What worked: Emma’s entrance and Aksana’s delicious look of disdain. Aksana’s physical prowess translating into a seasoned wrestler. Seriously, she looked great here and I think her femme fatale gimmick is beginning to click.

What didn’t work: Emma deliberately trying to look clumsy during the match. It came off less as comedy and more as woeful inexperience. Turn the dial down a bit, because I think this gimmick has potential to progress onto the main roster.

  • divaindemise

Oh, but the GREAT thing about Emma is that she’s more or less demonstrated what I usually look like at the weekend. It’s a much appreciated reality check. Thank you.

    • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

      LMAO…

  • Lushh

I wouldn’t mind Emma going the route of “Party Princess”. She’s fun , yet simply delusional about her surroundings and very awkward to watch. Like a frat “sis”? lol

  • moonpiggy

they’re making Emma look like a retarded dildo -_- …
why do all my faves like Jillian get this crap?

  • Gail-Trish-Brooke

Emma’s gimmick is stupid. It doesn’t enhance her matches in any way. It hurts them. Aksana was impressive though. Her power moves are great.

  • 09DHK

I’m not too sure whether or not Aksana was a babyface in this match since she didn’t get much heat, but her finisher is SICK. Hopefully they change her gimmick because I really feel as though her gimmick is restricting her in-ring ability in a sense because looking back at her FCW/NXT work (before she dyed her hair), she was a pretty solid worker. Sure she wasn’t a Serena Deeb or anything, but she was far better than she’s been on the main roster; and I think the over-exaggerated sexpot gimmick is a huge limitation. Also, I think it’s a shame how she’s forced to downplay her strength just because she doesn’t look like a Kaitlyn or a Tamina when she’s probably just as strong, if not stronger. As for Emma, I would say that the E is trying to make her the new Jillian Hall, but atleast Jillian’s gimmick didn’t get too much in the way of her in-ring ability. Plus, it didn’t really look as if Emma was trying to get into the gimmick; especially during the first few seconds of her entrance (you can literally see it on her face). Are there any Indys clips that’ll prove Emma can actually wrestle?

  • charovnica

It’s obvious the match was meant to be bad.Emma has a gimick like Victoria’s gimick during 2008…being a total fail and try to be funny at failing.I really don’t understand why would anybody would want to build someone like that..but I guess this is the entertainment world [?] I was cringing the whole time, didn’t find it funny…just painful to watch.

  • Getdownwithachola

Big fuck you to the dick who came up with this stupid ass gimmick.

    • Getdownwithachola

So Emma better save up some bucks and leave the fuck out of that Illuminati land if they want to keep her with that stupid ass gimmick, and why always the wrestlers get stuck with such gimmicks??? Why can’t a model be giving a stupid gimmick too???

      • http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/WWE_Divas/ art

it could help her get over & if she plays it well get on the good side of management which could lead to the main roster…
