TNA Genesis in Review: She’s a Killer Knockouts Champion!

It is time for the very first TNA pay-per-view of 2011! Genesis has been looming over the Knockouts division for weeks and finally, we get to see the title put on the line. Madison Rayne, along with her bodyguard Tara, have been tormenting Mickie James for weeks. But now, after countless angles, we get to see it all unfold. I’m excited to share my first ever pay-per-view coverage with you so please, saddle up and hold on tight. This trail ride is about to kick into overdrive!

Let’s open this book with a nice little video package to build up to tonight’s Knockouts Championship bout. It showcases the rapid feud between Mickie James and Tara, including interferences from Madison Rayne. A rather short yet detailed package. HARDCORE COUNTRY! The challenger, Mickie bounds to the ring decked out in some serious fringe. My Native American heritage thanks her and honestly, it fits. I can dig the feathers but the trenchcoat, not so much. Walker, Texas Ranger called and he’d like me to ask you to stay the hell out of his closet. SHE’S A KILLER QUEEN! Quick to cut her off is the champion herself, Madison, who comes out to a renewed theme, in her same old beer wench top and black pants. I guess there still isn’t much of a bonus check with that gold. I can say that I am enjoying her brunette hair more each week. She waves like the princess she believes she is to the crowd, hesitant to hand over her championship belt. The referee calls for the bell which sends Madison into her automatic bully technique. Time to get this party started!

Mickie looks to start this match off strong, finally getting ahold of Madison. After an arm drag and a snapmare takedown, going for a couple quick pin attempts in between, Mickie winds Madison up into a side headlock. But Madison isn’t giving in that soon. A shove from the champ sends Mickie careening into the ropes, coming back with a smooth shoulder block. Bringing that side headlock back into play, Mickie sets herself up for a few shots to the abdomen from her opponent. Time for a little gymnastics. Madison drops to the mat as Mickie rebounds off the ropes, throwing in a cartwheel for good measure. A key dropkick rolls Madison out on the apron, bitching at the referee about Mickie getting the best of her. Let the screeching commence! I know, somewhere in Orlando, there are dogs howling.

WSU News, Notes & Videos: WSU Tag Team Championship Match This Weekend

Latest news from WSU below:

WSU News Update For 1/9/11

– WSU at ACE This Saturday
– Free Videos of Marti Belle & Brittney Savage
– Less Than Two Weeks Away From WSU’s 2nd iPPV
– Reliving The Best Feud in Womens Wrestling with Videos of Martinez vs Orsini
—————

This past Friday night, on 1/7, WSU Spirit Champion Brittney Savage was scheduled to defend the WSU Spirit Championship against WSU Tag Champion Marti Belle at an NYWC show in New York. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled due to a snowstorm. This left WSU in a limbo, as the match also included a stipulation – if Savage defeated Marti Belle, then she would get a chance to challenge for Marti Belle’s WSU Tag Team title, a championship Belle holds with her Belles Saints tag team partner, Tina San Antonio. WSUWrestling.com was able to catch up with Marti Belle & Brittney Savage for a quick statement. Here are the videos from each wrestler:

Brittney Savage’s Challenge:

Marti Belle’s Response to Savage:

WSU has talked to both the Belles Saints & Brittney Savage/Rick Cataldo, and since all four participants want it, WSU has agreed to a huge tag team title match! On Saturday, 1/15 at the ACE Arena in Union City, NJ, the Belles Saints will defend the WSU Tag Team Titles against WSU Spirit Champion Brittney Savage & Rick Cataldo. This match has many implications, as The Belle Saints are involved in two big triple threat matches on 1/22 at WSU’s “Final Chapter” iPPV.

WSUWrestling.com has also received word that ALICIA, who has an opportunity to challenge for any championship in WSU as a result of her defeating Nikki Roxx in the Open Contract match on 12/11/10, will also be in the house. There’s no love lost between Savage & Cataldo. Could Alicia challenge for the Spirit Championship? Does Alicia have a partner for the tag team championships? One thing is for sure, WSU will be at the ACE arena on 1/15, one week before our own iPPV in the very same building. Expect fireworks to fly!!!

Taylor Wilde Speaks on Her Retirement from Wrestling & Leaving TNA

Former TNA Knockout, Taylor Wilde has spoken to The Sun about her decision to quit wrestling.

Earlier today, we announced that Wilde will compete in her final match for Diva Dirt, ChickFight and Pro Wrestling Revolution on February 5th against Alissa Flash.

On her decision to leave wrestling and TNA, she said:

She told us: “I’m not just leaving TNA, I’m retiring from wrestling and going back to school.

“I have nothing but good things to say about TNA. If it wasn’t for my experiences there I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

“But the way things were going, I just felt I needed a change. With the state of the company and the way they were using me, there wasn’t a lot for me to keep me going either.

“I’ve done a lot of the things I wanted to do, and there aren’t many opportunities left for me.”

TNA Genesis 2011: Discussion Post

The Knockouts Championship is on the line when Madison Rayne defends against Mickie James. Who’ll walk away with the belt? Tune in at 8pm ET live on pay per view. Discuss the show in the comments!

PPV Predictions: TNA Genesis 2011

The first pay per view of 2011 features Madison Rayne defending her Knockouts Title against Mickie James. Will the reign of Rayne continue or will the James Gang ride high tonight? The Diva Dirt team weigh in…

April: As I said in this week’s Impact Write-Up, I’m going to have to go with Mickie on this one. I think she’s been with the company long enough to cement herself as a Knockout and Madison’s time has come to an end. This feud between the two has been on since day one, added interference from Tara to side track Mickie but the time has finally come. The Knockouts division needs to be shaken up and a great start is a new champion, a new leader. Mickie has been a multiple champion in her professional career and the Knockouts title around her waist would be icing on the cake.

Cryssi: With the way things go in TNA, I’m not even sure about this title switch being a sure thing anymore. I love Madison as champion and I think TNA does too. That said, Mickie James is the biggest draw for the Knockouts that they’ve ever had. She’s so high profiled and we predicted that she would be a sure bet to be Knockouts Champion in 2011. I just don’t think it’s going to be at this PPV. It wouldn’t shock me to see her overcome the odds and defeat Madison, Tara, and Tara’s elbow, but it won’t be happening tonight. Madison is going to pick up a cheap victory, keep the Knockouts Championship, and lose it in a rematch to Mickie during one of the tapings that happen this week.

Eric: Going into this Sunday, there is a 90% chance that Madison Rayne drops the title to Mickie James. However, this is illogical TNA. I see Madison winning when Tara hits Mickie with the elbow pad. She then will drop it on an ordinary episode of Impact. Disappointed? Me too.

Madison Rayne on Whether Knockouts Division Lost Luster, Mickie in TNA & Kong Going to WWE

TNA Knockouts Champion, Madison Rayne gave an indepth interview to Brian Fritz at Fanhouse touching on a number of topics including whether she felt the Knockouts division had lost its luster, the additions of Mickie James and Tara to the division and her thoughts on Awesome Kong signing with WWE.

Rayne says she never felt the Knockouts experienced a lull, contrary to what many fans and critics felt. She says:

Yeah, there’s been some ups and downs with the changing faces in the division but I never saw what other people did when they said it was lacking and that there was a shortage of talent or whatever it was they were using to describe the time there when we had a couple of people leaving and a couple new people coming in. I’ve always thought that the Knockouts division had a lot of potential and a lot of incredible talent more so now than ever I think. There’s a lot of new faces and a lot of people that the fans are familiar with but haven’t necessarily seen interact with other girls. So, wrestling fans are getting faces and new storylines to follow and new people to see in the ring together. It’s exciting for all of us and I think it’s equally exciting for everyone watching.

Thoughts: In my opinion, the division was lacking for a good while — especially for the first half of 2010. I do think the division has found its feet in recent months with Mickie James and Tara in the forefront. Hopefully things can progress going into 2011. Frankly, I feel Sarita should be in the title picture also.

Stars of the Week: Week of January 3rd, 2011

It’s time to hand out some proverbial gold stars! Based on the week’s TV and news, each of the Diva Dirt team members have picked one female who they deem to be their ‘Star of the Week’. Read below…

April: My star for this week is Velvet Sky. True, she lost her tag match this week but she held her own and honestly impressed me. I think her feud with Sarita might actually go somewhere which gives me a new hope for the storyline. Velvet deserves a spotlight. She may not be the most skilled in-ring but she is an amazing character and she gives it all she can. I really look for her to shine this year.

Cryssi: My Star of the Week may surprise some people but to me it’s clearly a no brainer. Not only did this person look fierce on her respective show this week, but she showed just how influential she is to the superstars and Divas that surround her. This week, Vickie Guerrero vamped it up at the side of Dolph Ziggler and took over SmackDown in the absence of Teddy Long. Not only did she give Dolph a chance to win back the title he had just lost, but she gave him the biggest opportunity of his career thus far and he certainly capitalized and became the new number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship. When it comes to delicious heels Vickie just can’t be touched and she was at her best on Friday night. And that my friends is why she’s my star of the week.

David: My Star of the Week is Kelly Kelly. I know, she lost to Michelle McCool on Friday Night SmackDown, but I am starting to really like what they are doing with her character. I have been critical of her previous spots with Drew McIntyre, but the WWE has stuck with them and I think the pairing is starting to show some chemistry. Even though Kelly was defeated Friday, I thought she took it right to both members of Lay-Cool and showed some interesting new offense. To me Lay-Cool’s “mean girls” act only works if you care about who is being bullied. As I was watching this week’s show I thought Kelly did a good job making me care about what happened to her, and I was even happy to see Drew come down to ringside to save her. I want emotion when I watch pro wrestling and I felt something this week. So well done Kelly.

SmackDown Redux (January 7th, 2011): Kelly Kelly Has a Knight in Tiny Black Trunks

Love is in the air as the first SmackDown of the new year graces our HD television screens and YouTube pages. The on-going saga of Kelly Kelly and Drew McIntyre continued on this week as Drew’s affection for Kelly burned bright. He begged her to support his actions in the ring and promised her that he would stand by her no matter what in a tumultuous attempt to win her love. Kelly, of course, remained hesitant and unsure as once again, Drew displayed how ferocious he is inside the ring in an unfortunate losing effort. If that unsettled Kelly, she didn’t show as she waged war with Lay-Cool member, Michelle McCool, in a glorious match that saw both Divas at their best. The ending for Kelly, well it wasn’t a storybook. Michelle’s partner-in-crime, Layla, teamed up with her bestie to harass Kelly at the end. But oh, surprise surprise. Miss Kelly Kelly had someone luscious come to her rescue.

Backstage Kelly Kelly, who looks strikingly like a real Barbie doll tonight, is stopped by who else but Drew McIntyre. He starts speaking to her in his sexy Scottish accent and as if my name was Kelly, I get goosebumps when her name is spoken. Drew says the he wanted to make sure he caught her before her match so he could wish her good luck. Kelly pulls back and just shakes her head. She doesn’t really believe he means that because with him, she can never tell. Drew reminds her that even though she doesn’t like the man she sees in the ring, wrestling is his whole lively hood. He says that tonight he has a chance to make his dreams come true because he will be competing in a number one contenders match.

That so worked out well for ya, didn’t it Drew?

Drew says that he isn’t looking for Kelly’s trust, he wants to earn that. But what he is asking from her is her support tonight because it’s the same support he plans on giving her. He wishes her good luck and Kelly smiles and thanks him. She walks off and Drew is left standing there like a love sick puppy.

Could he be any prettier? I’m just trying to find the good in this situation. Bear with me.

The match Drew eluded too would take place later on in the night. Ya know, after he lost to PERFECTION!

Impact Write-Up (January 6th, 2011): The Elbow of Tara Strikes Again!

Hello there! Welcome back to the official TNA Impact Write-Up! My name is April and I will be your sponsor this week. Call me should you feel yourself in doubt of your wrestling devotion. I’ll set you straight. Last week, we saw a snappy strap match between Velvet Sky and Sarita that left us all using our imaginations. We also saw Madison Rayne in her Viera Twang dress and accent that left us all doubled over. This week, we’ve got Knockouts action in form of a rather odd pair of teams set to settle the score. Follow along, my darlings!

Out first is the team of Madison Rayne and Sarita. Madison is escorted to the ring by her bodyguard, Tara on her crotch rocket while Sarita dances her way down the ring in a glow in the dark ensemble. I’d even go so far as to say it could be from the Jeff Hardy clothing collection. Not a fan, again. At least Madison got rid of her little beer wench skirt and gold panties, changing it up with a pair of cute matching pants. Note the funny moment here where Sarita does her little salsarita dance and gets huffy when Tara starts dancing with her. Haha. HARDCORE COUNTRY! Out next is Mickie James in her country couture, daisy dukes and plaid tie-off. She is set to team with the lovely Velvet Sky who makes her way out last in black and hot pink. I like the black chaps a lot better than the others. Freelance fashion aside, two somewhat unorthodox tag teams set to face off.

Starting this match out in true bitch manner, Velvet goes straight after Sarita as soon as the bell rings. Sarita tries to come back with a clothesline but Vel Vel ducks and shoves her down, rebounding off the ropes to come back with a low dropkick. Quick to get back on it, Velvet takes Sarita down with a knee smash to the face. A few slaps to the chest and Sarita flings Velvet into the ropes which brings Vel Vel back with a headscissors roll-up. One..two..and no prize pinning combination. Sarita kicks out but Velvet flips her right back over for another attempt. Sarita does her best to come back but one half of the founding Beautiful People is hellbent on taking the latina down. I like Vicious Velvet. I think it suits her.
