Holidead and Marti Belle added to ROH’s Quest For Gold Tournament

ROH Board of Directors member Maria Kanellis Bennett took to the company’s YouTube channel to hand out two more tickets to gold. ROH is just about to announce the brackets of the Quest for Gold Women’s Title Tournament, which we finally now know is set to kick off in three weeks. The brackets will be revealed this Sunday at Best in the World.

The two women who just received their tickets are Holidead and Marti Belle. Both names are popular on the indie scene and have appeared with major promotions. Holidead was recently seen on AEW Dark in a match against Nyla Rose. She has worked for many promotions including ROH and is a former SHINE Tag Team Champion with Thunder Rosa.

Belle has also worked with many promotions and is most known for time with IMPACT Wrestling as a member of the Dollhouse with Taryn Terrell and Jade (Mia Yim). She participated in WWE’s Mae Young Classic and she is a two-time SHINE Tag Team Champion with Jayme Jameson. Other than with SHINE she was recently with NWA until November.

With the addition of these two competitors, they join the list for the tournament as follows:

  • Angelina Love (first round bye)
  • Rok-C
  • Allysin Kay
  • Trish Adora
  • Mazzerati
  • Willow
  • Miranda Alize
  • Mandy Leon
  • Nicole Savoy
  • Max the Impaler
  • Alex Gracia
  • Sumie Sakai
  • Holidead
  • Marti Belle

Vita VonStarr was originally scheduled to be in the tournament but the stipulation was she would no longer interfere in the men’s matches. She could not keep to that promise and Maria removed her from the tournament. Allie Recks was offered a ticket to gold but was unable to accept it at this time due to injury to her knee.

With this list, there is one spot left. It was recently announced that Quinn McKay will receive another shot at gold. She will be facing Mandy Leon in under two weeks to see if she can earn her spot.

The winner of the Quest For Gold Tournament will become the new ROH Women’s World Champion with a new lineage. The prior title was deactivated in 2020 after former champion Kelly Klein’s contract was not renewed.

Check back in with Diva Dirt to see how the brackets will shape up and follow along for the rest of the summer as we report on the tournament leading to a new champion!

Sumie Sakai is now in the ROH Women’s Title Tournament; Allie Recks gets the offer but unable to accept due to injury

The first-ever women’s champion in the history of ROH has finally received her golden ticket to the upcoming Quest for Gold Women’s Title Tournament. Sumie Sakai received a call from Board of Directors Maria Kanellis Bennett to receive the offer that she gladly accepted. With only a few spots left it makes sense for Sakai to be in this tournament. A tournament to crown a new champion for the new title.

Kanellis made another call to give out a second ticket to gold. This time it went to Allie Recks. In a heart wrenching moment, Recks wasn’t able to accept her ticket and place in the ROH Women’s Title Tournament. She explained that during her recent match with Max the Impaler on Women’s Division Wednesday her knee wasn’t feeling right and she tried to power through it. She found herself in surgery for her knee and due to her injury she will be out for at least eight to nine months.

On this week’s pre-taped Women Division Wednesday, Recks was in action teaming up with Gia Scott as they faced Sakai and Willow. Despite some disconnect between the team of Recks and Scott, Recks was able to secure a big victory as she speared Willow to get the pin.

Sakai joins the following women who will be in the upcoming tournament. The brackets will be announced this Sunday at ROH’s Best in the World.

  • Angelina Love (earned first-round bye)
  • Rok-C
  • Miranda Alize
  • Trish Adora
  • Allysin Kay
  • Nicole Savoy
  • Willow
  • Mazzerati
  • Mandy Leon
  • Max the Impaler
  • Alex Gracia
  • Sumie Sakai

Vita VonStarr removed from the upcoming ROH Women’s Title Tournament

Vita VonStarr will no longer participate in the upcoming ROH Women’s Title Tournament. She didn’t play by the rules.

On the June 9 episode of Women’s Division Wednesday, VonStarr received a golden ticket into the tournament after Bateman pled her case to be in it. She recently had a match against former Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai. She came up short in that match but held her own and felt that she should still be placed in the tournament.

Board of Directors member and the mind behind the upcoming tournament, Maria Kanellis Bennett, gave in and granted her a spot. However, she gave a stipulation. As long as she can prove that she has the passion and the focus to participate in the women’s division she can. By this, if she interferes in the men’s matches again then she will be out of the tournament. She interfered.

In the clip below you can see where Maria stands firm in her decision to remove VonStarr from the tournament despite the anger from Victor.

With VonStarr being removed, and as long as the punishment is kept, this opens up another spot for the tournament which is still not finalized. The participants are as follows:

  • Angelina Love (first round bye)
  • Allysin Kay
  • Rok-C
  • Willow
  • Trish Adora
  • Miranda Alize
  • Mazzerati
  • Mandy Leon
  • Nicole Savoy
  • Max the Impaler

Alex Gracia has had a Women’s Division Wednesday match recently against Willow in which she came up short. Despite these matches not being qualifiers anyway, Gracia made it a point to get the attention of Maria to get another shot to prove herself. Maria responded in person. Gracia will be getting another chance in the future which may mean she may impress Maria enough to earn a ticket to gold.

Rok-C gets a win on Women’s Division Wednesday; Nicole Savoy and Mandy Leon added to the tournament

Today is Wednesday, and if you are a fan of ROH then you know what that means. It is Women’s Division Wednesday and this week’s match-up involved two women that kicked off the weekly show in April – Rok-C and Laynie Luck.

The last time we saw these two in the ring together it was the first episode of the series and it was in tag team action. Rok-C partnered with Max the Impaler while Luck had Hyan by her side. The match was impressive and lasted to the 15-minute time limit making it a draw. This time, Rok-C was able to best Luck by hitting Code Red to get the three count for the victory.

Rok-C has already found herself with a ticket to gold. This summer we will be seeing a ROH Women’s Title Tournament to crown a brand new champion with a new lineage set to begin. Rok-C was the first woman announced for the tournament. Two names were added this week and those are Nicole Savoy and ROH veteran, Mandy Leon.

Savoy was selected to be in the tournament by fan request. Maria Kanellis-Bennett delivered her the good news and let her know that her name kept coming up with the fans and they overwhelming begged to see her in this tournament. Savoy has worked for ROH before and has done tours in Japan. She has also worked all over the United States and has done work for various all-female promotions.

When Leon was told the news, she expected it. She already assumed.

The full line-up so far for the tournament is as follows:

  • Rok-C
  • Allysin Kay
  • Trish Adora
  • Miranda Alize
  • Mazzerati
  • Willow
  • Angelina Love (bye-in first round)

Vita VonStarr receives her golden ticket into the ROH Women’s Title Tournament

Vita VonStarr received her golden ticket from Maria Kanellis Bennett on this week’s Women’s Division Wednesday. VonStarr was not part of this week’s match but she did go one-on-one with Sumie Sakai a number of weeks ago. Vonstarr was joined by Bateman backstage who was convincing Maria to allow her to enter the tournament.

Bateman explains that VonStarr holding her own against Sakai should be enough to get her a golden ticket plus this would make Vincent happy. Maria agreed and said that VonStarr can join the tournament but under a condition. She is all for handing out opportunities for women who are focused on the division. Maria says VonStarr needs to stop getting involved in any of the men’s matches or she is out.

As for the match that took place this week, it was a tag team match in which three of the women have already received their spots for the tournament. Miranda Alize teamed up with Sumie Sakai to face Trish Adora and Mazzerati. After quite the battle, Alize locked in the Miranda Rights on Mazzerati which caused her to tap out.

This is Sakai’s second win since the start of Women Division Wednesday’s and as a former champion herself she has yet to be granted a ticket to gold. Alize, Mazzerati, and Adora have all previously received their spots in the upcoming tournament. They join Rok-C, Allysin Kay, and Willow who have earned their spots as well — and now VonStarr. Angelina Love has earned a first round bye to the tournament by defeating Quinn McKay.

After this week’s tag match, the four competitors showed their good sportsmanship as they shook hands in the ring. Max the Impaler then made their way down to the ring and cleared out the ring thus making a huge statement. Max has been in two matches since the start of Women’s Division Wednesday and has yet to earn their ticket into the tournament. After Max clears the ring, Amy Rose comes out from the back and claps giving her approval.

Although not part of this week’s show Alex Gracia has posted a promo telling Maria that she deserves to be part of the tournament. Gracia took on Willow last week in a losing effort.

Gracia has been a frequent competitor in AEW being seen mostly on Dark or Elevation. She was last seen in March for the company facing Dr. Britt Baker and has also made appearances with NWA.

Maria returns to Ring of Honor promoting The Experience

Maria is officially back with the Ring of Honor promotion and is front and center to provide an announcement for them. She announces an open forum called The Experience where they want the fans to say what they want to see. They want the fans to #ChooseYourHonor.

The full statement about this is listed on their website and says the following:

Ring of Honor has always strived to give the best wrestling fans on the planet what they want. Now the fans will have an open forum to tell us directly what they want.

In January, ROH takes The Experience to the next level of fan engagement by empowering the members of Honor Nation to make their voices heard.

The Experience is not a singular event. It’s a movement.

Fans are encouraged to join the ROH The Experience Facebook group to share their thoughts and opinions about all things ROH.

Which outside talents do you want to see in ROH? Which ROH stars should be getting title shots? What match stipulations do you want to see?

ROH wants you to #ChooseYourHonor.

Maria Kanellis Bennett is leading the charge for The Experience. She made the announcement about the groundbreaking concept on ROH’s social media platforms.

“Ring of Honor has cultivated an environment where the wrestlers and the fans are the experience,” Kanellis Bennett said. “I want wrestlers to thrive and I want to give you the fans what you truly desire.

“I want Ring of Honor to be yours. No … I want Ring of Honor to be ours.”

Maria joins her husband, Mike Bennett, who has already reappeared for the promotion. Prior to this announcement of The Experience, Mike was recently interviewed by Wrestling Inc. about his thoughts on if Maria would return to ROH.

He had the following to say on if Maria would return:

“Maria, I’ll never say no because she’s my wife, so if she ever wants to come back, she’s always more than willing to. The Kingdom’s just as much her as it was me, and Matt and [Adam] Cole,” Bennett noted. “The door’s always open for her. I will say this about Maria though, she’s very, as most people know, she’s very methodical. She’s very methodical in her decisions.

“When Maria comes back, she’ll come back when she wants to come back on her terms, doing what she wants to do because that’s how she’s always done it, and I’m sure as hell not going to tell her any other way. I will never say never, Maria back to the Kingdom, but where Maria’s mind is at now, I would definitely say when she returns to wrestling, it’ll be her decision [and] her choice doing what she wants to do. She’s been doing this a long time, and she’s done a lot in this industry. So she’s deserved a rest, and she deserves to come back when she wants to.”

Maria and Mike both stood alongside each other in the ROH promotion from 2011 to 2015. They both were recently released from WWE in April as part of the cutbacks from the pandemic.

As far as the women’s roster in ROH, they had planned to crown a new champion with a new lineage to their women’s belt. This was to take place at the time that the pandemic had shut everything down back in April.

What do you make of Maria being back with ROH? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Hana Kimura, Stella Grey, and Sumie Sakai vs. Jenny Rose and Oedo Tai – G1 Supercard ROH

In April of 2019, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling co-produced an event called G1 Supercard. From that event came a dark match which we have decided to make this week’s Free Match Friday. It is to highlight the late Hana Kimura.

Last weekend, Kimura tragically left this earth. At such a young age of 22, Kimura was a bright star and her talent was unmistakable. Her appearance along with Oedo Tai (Kagetsu and Hazuki) highly represented Stardom.

It is clear that Kimura was the next big thing. She is loved and missed by many.

Please enjoy this match and discuss what you thought of it in the comment section below.

If you are a Stardom fan, discuss other favorite matches of Hana’s that you enjoyed as well.

R.I.P Hana Kimura –

We all need to do better and love one another.
