Mercedes Martinez returns to the ring on tonight’s NXT

Mercedes Martinez made a huge impression during her return last week to NXT. She hasn’t been in a match since early September where she was on the losing end of a cage match against Rhea Ripley. This time, she has her eye on the NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai as she decimated her with the return to the brand.

Martinez was a part of the RETRIBUTION stable that has found a home on the RAW brand. She would have gone by the name Retaliation and would have joined Mia Yim (Reckoning) as the second woman of the group. Prior to her new name officially being announced on television, she was removed from the stable. Now she is back and is ready to dominate.

She will be in action tonight but her opponent has not been announced at this time.

The landscape of competitors for Shirai is endless in NXT. Toni Storm had staked her claim just last week before Martinez pounced. Who do you see being the next challenger for Shirai heading into the new year?

Team Shotzi earns the advantage at WarGames as Io Shirai rounds out the team

The main event of this week’s NXT saw Shotzi Blackheart and Raquel Gonzalez tear down in a ladder match. The goal? To earn the advantage for the WarGames match this Sunday.

Much like the men last week, the team members of each team were perched up top and isolated from ringside. Indi Hartwell pledged her allegiance to Team Candice and delivered a ladder where they could make their way down to help Gonzalez. Rhea Ripley and Ember Moon followed to help Blackheart. Hartwell continued to try and help as she set up a ladder in the middle of the ring but that just opened up the door for NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai.

Shirai made the leap to stop Gonzalez from making it to the top of the ladder to grab the briefcase. This led to the NXT Women’s Champion executing a moonsault that took out the entire WarGames field.

This opened the door for Blackheart to climb the ladder and secure the victory. Without saying a word, Shirai rounded out Team Shotzi as expected.

TakeOver: WarGames is this Sunday, Dec. 6, and will be Team Candice (Candice LeRae, Raquel Gonzalez, Dakota Kai, and Toni Storm) vs. Team Shotzi (Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley, and Io Shirai). This will be the second year in a row that Kai, Ripley, Shirai, and LeRae have partaken in a WarGames match.
