Impact Write-Up (December 8th, 2016): Allie gets her retribution

37

Hola Knockout fans and welcome to your weekly edition of Impact Write-Up! We are closely coming to the final stretch of TNA for the year 2016 – with less than one week from the much talked about Total Nonstop Deletion! Start those predictions on how/if the Knockouts will be involved in the Hardy’s Establishment project. As we heard earlier this week, Laurel Van Ness has issued a challenge to Allie for this week’s episode of Impact. How will the beloved “novice” Knockout flare in her latest battle against TNA’s Mean Girls? Let’s dive in.

Before we get to our Knockouts match, we check in with our newly crowned Knockouts Champion Rosemary. The Assassin Demon Champion leads her Decay clan to confront the TNA Tag Team Champions the Broken Hardys, reminiscing on their previous battles from the Great War.

After gloating on her attacks towards Gail Kim and her “hand selected Warrior of Light” Jade, Abyss and Crazzy Steve declare their challenge towards the Hardys with the promise of taking everything in this next trip to Cameron, NC. I can’t even imagine how this will play out this time around.

We move on to our Knockouts match of the week:

Ms. Maria accompanies Laurel while Madison Rayne puts back on her commentary hat to join Josh Matthews over at the commentary table. Where is The Pope this week daddy?

Allie makes her entrance in casual wear, which sparks Maria to tease Allie once again once she makes her way inside the six sided ring. Maria points at Allie’s wrestling boots and knee-pads and says despite the semi-ring upgrade, she still “can’t wrestle”. Not so fast Ms. Maria, Allie has a trick up her sleeve: She has been training to wrestle with Laurel’s crush Braxton Sutter!

After dropping the bombshell, out comes Braxton to cheer Allie on for this match-up; much to Laurel’s dismay. The Impact Zone bursts out chants for Allie but she goes down via arm drag by Laurel. The women tie-up again and this time, it’s Allie who takes down Laurel with an arm drag.

Laurel comes back in with a leg sweep offense and illegal stretch hold with the use of the ring ropes, knocking Allie off her game momentarily. Still, Allie manages to bounce back through her newly found confidence and support from Braxton with hard hitting right forearms, running clothesline and a suplex!

The Impact Zone, fans watching from home and Braxton are all on their feet cheering Allie on… that is until the good mood is interrupted by Mike Bennett. The Miracle Mike and his golden shoes brawl with Allie’s coach, forcing the men to the back for the remainder of this Knockouts match.

The distraction allows Laurel to strike Allie from behind and follow up with a running facecrusher. After her signature Shhh! taunt, Laurel goes for her curb stomp finisher but ducks out the way. She shoves Laurel to the ropes and brings her back to hit a Reverse DDT that puts her away for the three count pin! Allie is your winner!

As Allie celebrates her win, former boss lady Maria attempts an attack from behind but instead retreats when Allie turns around with a crushed fist! Go Allie, go!

After her big win, Allie meets up with Braxton backstage to relive her big moment. Braxton tells Allie that she can do anything… which prompts Allie to peck a kiss on Braxton. A happy good feel for Allie and Braxton!

We close Impact with previews for next week’s Total Nonstop Deletion:

Hmm, no Knockouts sighting but all I can say about this preview is that I am speechless….

Thoughts: At last, TNA have found a way to give Allie the “skills” to wrestle.

Sure, this week’s Knockouts match wasn’t exactly a spectacular match but it is also part of Allie’s ongoing story. Her character is still “learning” the basics so I wasn’t expecting her to pull out all the strings just yet. A few basics maneuvers, new confidence and getting the big win over her former colleagues are what continue to build Allie as the division top babyface. I just hope that with the Braxton Sutter pairing, which will no doubt him as well, we can continue to see Allie progress as a full on competitor.

On an interesting note, I noticed a change in direction based off the last set of TNA spoilers; that being a change in stipulation and even ending of this match. Originally, it was said that Allie needed win this match to keep her job and win a TNA contract, which was never mentioned on commentary nor told beforehand. Brandi Rhodes tossing Maria back to ring after backing off Allie was also cut.

I can see the reason to drop the contract stipulation, as it could have been used as a tactic to more or less hype up the Impact Zone audience, but the Brandi cut makes me wonder where she will currently go. As of now, Cody’s official TNA status is up in the air and after being written off, his wife has needed something to sort of work with. Pairing Allie would have killed two birds with one stone: giving Brandi the rub to still connect with the crowd (sans Cody’s presence) and carry a recurring storyline with Maria. Whatever the reason for the cut, I think it worked out for the best as Brandi needs some more polishing before getting back in the ring full time.

In the meantime, we look ahead to Total Nonstop Deletion. I continue to voice how I’m not really a fan of these over-the-top Hardy gimmick matches. They aren’t really matches in my eyes but if I had to guess, I would assume Rosemary would defend her title against Reby Hardy? It wouldn’t be the first time the Knockouts have confronted each other but let’s see how the (assumed) final episode of Impact Wrestling 2016 will play out!

What did you think of this week’s episode of Impact? Relieved to see Allie “trained” and paired with Braxton Sutter? Are you ready for Total Nonstop Deletion? Let us know in the comments below!

Mick Foley aides Chyna’s mother to get control of her estate

One of the biggest blows in pro-wrestling this year was the death of former WWE Intercontinental and Women’s Champion, Chyna this April. It would appear that the legend would finally escape the chaos that surrounded her life.

Unfortunately, it will be a while longer before the “Ninth Wonder of the World” can truly rest in peace. Mick Foley‘s latest post can accomplish that faster. The Hall of Famer made the following post on his Facebook page.

He writes:

PEACE FOR CHYNA

I had a nice talk with Joanie Laurer’s mom yesterday. While Joanie had been estranged from her mother for much of her adult life, including the entirety of her WWE run, the two eventually made peace and had become quite close by the end of Joanie’s life. Joanie’s mom is attempting to gain control of her daughter’s estate – but is trying to do it on a very limited budget, and the legal costs are more than she can handle. Don’t be fooled by the word “estate” – there is not a lot of money left, if any. But Chyna’s mom is attempting to do the right thing by allowing whatever personal effects she did leave behind to stay with the family and not with her manager, so that her family may finally be at peace with her loss. Whatever help you can give will be much appreciated.

If you would like to help Chyna’s mother in the expenses to gain control of the estate you can donate here.

Sparse details emerge on status of Lucha Underground Season 4

[media-credit name=”Lucha Underground” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]lucha-banner[/media-credit]

While Season 3 of Lucha Underground is underway, few details have been revealed about the status of Season 4.

Last week Lucha Underground executive producer Eric Van Wagenen was on the Mid Week War podcast where he discussed last week’s Gauntlet Match along with all things LU. He had this to say about the prospect of Season 4:

“Season four has really got to be a make or break for us. We really have to step on the gas when it comes to touring, merchandise and a second or third way of seeing the episodes. Right now, if we put it out there, the eyeballs are more important to us than the money. If we can grow eyeballs, the money will follow.”

411Mania is also reporting that there are still no definitive dates for filming season four of Lucha Underground, the hope is that they will tape in the spring. Van Wagenen says that the plan for season four will be to tape 40 episodes. They are trying to set up a house show tour in the spring as well.

While there have been rumblings of a distribution deal with Netflix, that hasn’t happened yet. Currently, episodes are available on iTunes and the show airs weekly on Wednesdays on the El Rey Network.

This season has brought more luchadoras into the fray and continues to allow the women to push the envelope and break barriers as Sexy Star broke the glass ceiling this year as the first female to hold LU’s top championship

We’ll keep you updated as more details are revealed.

WWE signs multiple female talents

136

[media-credit name=”Photo: @kimber_lee90/Instagram” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]kimberheidi[/media-credit]

A new wave of female talents will be making their way to the WWE come 2017!

PWInsider reports that the WWE have signed a batch of independent stars that include CHIKARA’s first female Grand Champion Kimber Lee, fellow CHIKARA history maker, the 2014 Chikara’s Young Lion’s Cup winner Heidi Lovelace, New Zealand star Evie and UK Star Nixon Newell – who recently dropped the British Empire Wrestling Women’s title to Toni Storm.

All these names are expected to report to the WWE Performance Center in the first week of January 2017.

In addition to this list of names, Squared Circle Siren also reports that WWE have signed model and aspiring MMA fighter Julie Real.

PWInsider adds that WWE is signing mode and officials are working harder than ever to evaluate talents and watch the indie scene. The company reportedly has people watching iPPV events and doing complete agent reports on them, similar to reports the company creates for their own live events to track talents and see how they’re improving.

Though it isn’t confirmed, one can assume that these names may be used to fill in spaces for WWE’s approaching all Women’s Tournament.

What are your thoughts on these signings? Who are you most excited to see? How would you book their debut? Let us know in the comments below!

NXT Redux (December 7, 2016): All flash and barely any substance

120

[media-credit name=”WWE” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]embervskimber[/media-credit]

Welcome to this week’s NXT Redux. What does this episode have in store for us? Unfortunately NXT continues it’s trend in the women’s division of minimal character building.

First up we have Sanity ruling the roost again in the men’s division. It looks like Sawyer Fulton is exiled from the group? While an interviewer tried to get a comment from them, they stormed off. However, Nikki Cross caught sight of Asuka and the NXT Women’s Championship. She liked what she saw, panting and licking her lips at the prospect of holding that title.

Afterward Ember Moon was in action against Kimber Lee. Let’s watch:

The match starts off with a test of strength as Kimber looks to break Ember down but is flipped over instead. Ember hits her with a few stiff kicks but Kimber catches her in a sideslam after Ember runs at her.

Kimber locks Ember up in a submission. They strike and chop each other before Ember rolls out of Kimber’s attempt at a powerbomb, reversing it into a hurricanrana. They continue to fight. Ember gets the win after performing a dropkick, back handspring elbow, and her signature eclipse finisher.

Thoughts: So the match, although too short for my liking, was really good despite how I’m just not enthused about seeing Ember, or anyone right now, participate in squash matches. Ember’s short bursts of showcased matches allow her opponent to also quickly show what they can do, this is a marked difference in how Asuka’s match ups are booked. Kimber looked like a star and if the rumors are true that she’s been signed, I can’t wait to see what she can do against the other women. While I enjoy watching Ember and her opponent have semi-competitive bouts, we need more already!

There’s nothing new I can say that I haven’t already said previously. NXT has lost sight of its women’s division. What made the previous era so special was the growth that happened between competitors in the division. Yeah, we had squash matches here and there but the girls interacted in backstage segments that created a shared universe for the division. Where are those? Where are promos? Why hasn’t anyone gotten mic time to stake their claim or explain who they are?

I am salivating at the prospect of seeing Nikki beat Asuka up. Nikki has benefited from being paired with an anarchist group that’s tearing the house down in the men’s division. She has a character. She’s a violent pitbull who gets off on hurting people. This build is what’s lacking for the rest of the women’s division.

I also cover Lucha Underground. One of the things I love about that show is the created backstory and mythos each of their performers get. Why is that so hard for NXT to create for its up and coming stars? I mean, the main roster sometimes changes things any way so what are they afraid of? For developmental, they’ve forgotten the formula on how to develop lately. It’s getting old and none of this is compelling right now.

What did you think of this week’s NXT? Are you excited for a possible Nikki/Asuka showdown? Sound off in the comments below.

Lucha Underground Analysis (December 7, 2016): Another shot at gold

7

[media-credit name=”Lucha Underground” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]sexy-vs-pj[/media-credit]

Welcome back to the Temple, Believers! This week Sexy Star looks to get some vengeance against Worldwide Underground for costing her the Lucha Underground Championship. Elsewhere we get some more movements on key stories involving other luchadoras, including the continued effort by the police department to put away the Temple’s proprietor once and for all. Let’s get into it!

Our first luchadora sighting of the night sees Sexy meeting with Dario Cueto.

Dario tells her they can relate to each other. She fights with heart because she’s come from a troubled past. He agrees that the title was stolen from her. He gives her one of his famous unique opportunities. Dario says he’s going to have her face the only member of Worldwide Underground she hasn’t fought yet, PJ Black. However, the match is made under certain conditions, if Sexy wins she’d fight Johnny with Worldwide Underground barred from ringside as the two would fight in a steel cage.

But, if PJ gets the best of Sexy, then she won’t be able to contest for the top prize ever again.

She agrees and then warns Dario, telling him that he may have escaped a troubled past but he should watch out if he doesn’t want a troubled future.

Following that we have a short segment featuring Captain Vasquez who greets the returning Officer Reyes, aka Cortez Castro. She tells him to go back to the Temple. Confused since Dario knows who he is, she tells him to go deeper undercover and hands him a luchador mask.

Next up we have our match as Sexy goes toe to toe with PJ. Let’s watch:

The match starts off a bit slow with Sexy going for strikes but PJ dodges them or reverses her. Sexy tries different variations of hurricanrana’s, headscissors, and submissions but is out maneuvered every time. Watch out for a sick reversal by PJ into a Styles Clash, but it’s not enough to put Sexy away. She makes several comeback attempts.

Towards the end of the bout Jack Evans tries to interfere but Sexy is able to capitalize on the chaos with a quick pin to earn the rematch!

After the bout Kobra Moon appears on a throne.

She says a millennia ago her tribe was the home of venomous warriors. When the great war broke out they were defeated because one of their generals deserted them.

She introduces two snake generals from her tribe to bring back the man who deserted them so long ago. She tells them to bring her the man who was once a dragon and make him kneel before his queen.

Our last sighting of the night is of Catrina who accompanies her man Mil Muertes to a fatal four way match that’s part of the Battle of the Bulls tournament. This tournament will determine Johnny’s first challenger while Sexy remains guaranteed a shot at the title.

After Matanza breaks out and causes havoc, The Mack comes out of the match victorious and will advance in the tournament.

Thoughts: I’m very pleased Sexy’s story with Johnny and the Worldwide Underground is continuing. Though the match was a bit slow paced in the beginning, it picked up by the end and I honestly couldn’t tell who was going to win.

Occasionally Sexy’s matches can get lost in translation because of the pacing. Her chemistry with PJ wasn’t as great as it could have been but PJ tried his best to make up for any shortcomings. Sexy also remains one of the strongest characters in the Temple so any graces she lacks in the ring at times, definitely gets made up for with her ability to tell a story.

The only thing that confused me was commentary at the end when selling her upcoming battle with Johnny. Yes, there is also a tournament going on to determine Johnny’s first challenger to his title but Sexy is guaranteed a shot at the championship. Commentary made it sound like the person who wins the tournament could possibly knock Johnny off, so she wouldn’t get a cage match with him but with the new title holder? I may be reading too much into a mistake.

But, congratulations are in order for Sexy as she becomes the first female to participate in an upcoming match with such a stipulation! I’m curious if this is where her story will end in the Temple? She announced over the summer that she’d be focusing on her boxing career but has since had a change of heart and is working on the indy’s, recently appearing with SHIMMER. I’m hopeful that if that’s the case, she is welcomed back at some point in the future with open arms. There is still a variety of story telling possibilities for her character. She’s a pure baby face with a huge heart, she’s not afraid to get vicious. Like I had said in a previous LU review, it’d be interesting to see her interact more with Catrina and Mil or even the other devious and vile characters that inhabit this universe. Sexy overcoming death would give her a crazy edge.

Kobra Moon continues to work well in her expanded role. I really appreciate the depth her character is being given. What LU continues to do well is showcase its talent in a variety of roles. Her skills in the ring need some more refining but I’m confident she’ll be ready when she gets there again. It looks like she’s part of a larger mythos and that will serve her and her opponents well in the future.

Catrina keeps changing the manager game. Even though she only accompanied Mil to the ring here, she carries such presence and you can’t help but notice her.

I’m looking forward to this cage match and everything else coming to a head in the near future. This episode transitioned from the intense Gauntlet Match last week to furthering new stories as we move forward. It’s always comforting to see them move ahead with a plan as LU continues to deliver every week.

What did you think of last night’s episode? Are you excited to see Sexy vs Johnny in a cage match? Sound off in the comments below.

Sexy Star will fight Johnny Mundo in a steel cage for the Lucha Underground Championship

[media-credit name=”Lucha Underground” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]rsz_sexy_vs_pj[/media-credit]

Tonight on Lucha Underground Sexy Star beat PJ Black for a rematch with Johnny Mundo for the Lucha Underground Championship. The match will take place in a steel cage. This will make Sexy the first female competitor to be granted such a stipulation.

The match was made with PJ under certain conditions, if Sexy won she’d fight Johnny with Worldwide Underground barred from ringside as the two would fight in a steel cage.

But, if PJ got the best of Sexy, then she wouldn’t be able to contest for the top prize ever again.

In a match that saw PJ match Sexy at every turn with power moves and submissions, Sexy was able to overcome. Sexy tried different variations of hurricanrana’s, headscissors, and submissions but was out maneuvered every time. Towards the end of the bout Jack Evans attempted to interfere but Sexy was able to capitalize on the chaos with a quick pin to earn the rematch.

Tonight’s episode also began The Battle of the Bulls Tournament to determine Johnny’s first challenger. While Sexy remains guaranteed a shot at the title, the date of the cage match is still to be determined at this time.

Linda McMahon to lead US President Elect Donald Trump’s Small Business Administration

57

[media-credit name=”CNBC” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]lindatrumpadmin[/media-credit]

As it was speculated last month, former WWE CEO Linda McMahon will join US President Elect Donald Trump’s administration as overseer of the Small Business Administration.

In a statement earlier today, Trump said that Linda McMahon would aim to “bring back our jobs and roll back the burdensome regulations that are hurting our middle class.”

CNBC reports that Linda was a major Trump backer during his campaign, giving $6 million to a pro-Trump super PAC.

For her part, Linda has released the following statement on her new political role:

“Our small businesses are the largest source of job creation in our country. I am honored to join the incredibly impressive economic team that President-elect Trump has assembled to ensure that we promote our country’s small businesses and help them grow and thrive.”

The entire McMahon family and a few Superstars have congratulated the newly appointed leader of the Small Business Administration:

After stepping down as CEO from WWE, Linda ran for U.S. Senate in Connecticut in 2010 and 2012 but was unsuccessful in both runs. She will take on her new role of looking over every state and helping with financing and training for small businesses and entrepreneurs next month.

What are your thoughts on Linda’s new political role?

SmackDown Redux (December 6th, 2016): The Alexa Bliss Era

141

[media-credit name=”WWE” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]alexa-bliss-dismisses-becky-lynch-smackdown-live-12-06-2016[/media-credit]

After an explosive TLC, SmackDown Live’s women’s division had a lot to live up to. From the mystery of the unknown attacker to the rise of the Wicked, the women of SmackDown have a lot of their plate… So let’s see what they got up to:

After announcing that it was Natalya that had attacked Nikki Bella at Survivor Series, Carmella was scheduled for a match against the Queen of Harts. Before the match can start, the Princess of Staten Island takes ahold of the microphone and gives her opponent a piece of her mind. She tells the audience that Natalya is the liar in this scenario and that she pulled off a “Tonya Harding” on Nikki. Carmella then equates Natalya’s actions to the simple fact that Nikki is “stealing Natalya’s spotlight” – sound familiar? She states that Natalya is jealous because she is not as “glamorous,” “curvacious,” and as “beautiful” as Nikki Bella (and Carmella). The Princess of Staten Island goes on to call Natalya a “deceiving con artist” and, before we know it, Natalya storms to the ring for a beat-down of Carmella. The trash talker then dashes backstage and once we catch up with them, she is no longer in sight. But what does is happen is that Natalya bumps into Nikki, and though she tries to explain herself, Bella walks away in disgust.

We soon catch up with Nikki as she is met by online sensation Sophia Grace. The pair discuss Grace’s upcoming music video and we see the yungin’ attempt to cheer up Bella with her inspiring song lyrics. So cute!

Later on in the night Alexa Bliss takes to the ring to address the WWE Universe and Becky Lynch. Following a firework celebration and “ding dong, the witch is champ,” Bliss attempts to boasts about her title win. However, chants for Becky force the conversation to move on to the former SmackDown Women’s champion. Lynch soon storms to the ring but is told by Alexa that the invitation said “no losers allowed.” Becky responds by saying that whilst it may be one thing to get to the top, it’s a whole other thing to remain there.

Alexa continues her speech by saying that unlike Becky she doesn’t care for the WWE Universe’s opinion. She also enforces the idea that we’re no longer in the “new era,” we’re in Alexa’s era. And regardless of what names Becky’s “broken heart desires” to call her, Bliss says that she will call her “champion” above all – though Lynch prefers the word she used last week.

The topic of a rematch is then swiftly brought up and Becky states that Alexa’s reign will begin and end with it. And in fact, she intends to have the said rematch right now. Alexa, who takes off her jacket and places her belt and microphone on the ground, appears willing to take up the offer. But in typical WWE fashion, she leaves the ring, keeping the match postponed to another time.

Thoughts: It’s hard to be pleased by this episode. If you watched TLC and missed this, you wouldn’t need to go back and look at highlights to be fully caught up with the story. All that happened for the women was that a rematch was spoken about (something that is always guaranteed after a title change) and Carmella, Nikki and Natalya went over what happened on Sunday. We really didn’t see any story progression here, and it’s a shame as Alexa could really do with some great time and writing to be put over.

The Alexa and Becky feud could really become something worthwhile. And after the fantastic tables match they had two nights ago, it’s a shame that they’re left with almost nothing in the fallout. Both women are really talented, and this segment could have been really useful had it been used correctly. Alexa should have spent way more time bragging and discussing her future as this would have given the fans more time to react to her and see what she has to offer as a champion. And the ending could have gone any other way, rather than the same way any random title challenge ends. We could have had a stare down, a verbal decline of the match, or a brawl. But it took the most predictable and least useful of the lot.

The other segment wasn’t exactly great either. Whilst Carmella and Natalya were convincing, there wasn’t much going on that had me invested. The speech was going well and then after it was over, the entire thing practically fell flat soon after. Much like the other segment we could’ve seen a lot more here. Nikki was hardly involved, and Carmella was seen praising her biggest enemy…? Instead we could have seen an exchange between all three women, and then the brawl between Natalya and Carmella could have happened. I’m also not sure how many more times SmackDown are going to cancel their women’s matches before they realise nobody wants to see that.

Overall, this was a bad week for Team Blue. We saw absolutely no wrestling minus the mini brawl and at this point, that’s pretty ridiculous. It gets even more ridiculous when you realize that Dean Ambrose, somebody that lost their title match, got more screen time than the new SmackDown Women’s champion – he had three segments with mic/wrestling time, as well as an entrance for each appearance. And on top of that, there were three tag team division matches, whilst the women received none at all. We can pretend to chalk this down to the “two hour” issue, but if we have time for three tag team division matches and to see the same guy three different times, there’s obviously enough space for decent women’s wrestling.

‘Total Divas’ First Look: Nikki asks Daniel to train her & Eva worries about her booking schedule

[media-credit name=”E!” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]totaldivasfirstlook120716[/media-credit]

Judging from two first-look videos from tonight’s episode of Total Divas, it seems that fans will see a whole lot more drama involving some of our favorite WWE female wrestlers.

First, we have Nikki and Brie Bella headed to a wine tasting with Daniel Bryan. It doesn’t take long for Nikki to drop a bombshell request on Daniel – asking the retired wrestler to help her train for her comeback on RAW.  But, Brie is not having it.

“Bryan is in such a good place right now, and I just don’t want Nicole to interrupt that,” Brie explains:

In another clip, Eva Marie and Nattie are seen sitting backstage during a Monday Night Raw taping in Omaha, NE, with Eva asking Nattie about receiving her live events schedule for the following week.

“Are you still not booked right now, for real?” Nattie asks Eva, to which Eva simply replies, “No.” It soon becomes apparent that Eva is left out of the loop, whereas Nattie is booked solid for the next two months.

Of course, the only thing left for Eva to do is to speak with WWE Senior Director of Talent Relations, Mark Carrano.  Once confronted, Mark’s response to Eva is, “You’re a very special, special person.”

“We need talent. We need people. We need buzz. We need talent and you have it. Unfortunately, we don’t have the direction saying today Eva Marie will be part of the roster,” he continues.

Total Divas airs Wednesdays at 8pm ET on E!.

Do you think this episode will give more insight into Eva’s currently visible absence on Smackdown Live? Do you think Brie is wrong in being annoyed by Nikki’s training request from Bryan? What/who else are you excited to see on tonight’s Total Divas? Feel free to sound off!

Eva Marie ditches her red hair for latest cover of “Millennium” magazine

[media-credit name=”Millennium Magazine” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]natalie-eva-marie_[/media-credit]

Eva Marie is all black everything on the latest issue of Millennium magazine!

Sporting long, brunette tresses, instead of her signature red locks on the magazine’s cover, the Superstar talks about the moment she first dyed her hair red after getting the call that she would be added to WWE’s then main roster.

“You got the job. You’re going to be flying to Wrestlemania on Monday, and you’ll be dying your hair,” Eva recalls from the phone conversation.

“I have natural black hair. I was sitting in a New York salon and as they were stripping the color of my hair, I made a decision. I was listening to Rihanna‘s album where she had that crazy bright red hair and I said ‘I’m going to go Rihanna red,” she adds.

Eva also discusses her very first feature film role in the Nicolas Cage-starrer, Inconceivable.

“After I got the part, when I got on set, I was a bit nervous. Not only was this my first feature film, but I was going in there with big time actors and actresses. Academy Award winners!” she says.

E!’s reality hit show Total Divas has been nominated for a WIN (Women’s Image Network) Award under the “Best Reality Series” category. WWE took to Twitter to congratulate the show’s cast members for their nominee.

https://twitter.com/WWEUniverse/status/806311042435334144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Unfortunately for the WWE, the bigger story coming from their tweet stems from the featured image used – which failed in include current Total Divas cast members Naomi and Paige but included Alicia Fox despite Alicia not being a full on cast member this season.

Naomi responded to WWE’s tweet to question why she wasn’t included in the featured image:

Fans immediately poured in their support for the SmackDown Superstar, who also took this moment to let out some frustration:

A few fellow WWE Superstars also extended their support for Naomi:

Even with the controversy, Naomi seems to maintain a positive outlook on things:

Former WWE Women’s Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Lita will no longer serve as host and analyst for WWE’s Pre-Shows programming.

According to F4WOnline (via Wrestling INC), both Lita and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler are no longer working full time with the company and are now under WWE Legends contracts.

Going forward, Renee Young will host SmackDown’s Pre-Shows alongside Booker T while Charly Caruso will join Booker as co-host for Raw’s Pre-Shows. It should be noted that both Lita and Lawler are still loosely affiliated with the company and may be brought back on the WWE Network for special occasions.

Lita began her full time gig as host for WWE’s Pre-Shows over the summer as part of WWE’s Battleground PPV event.

RAW Redux (December 5th, 2016): Honey traps & parent traps

324

So last week, Sasha Banks won the title for the third time in Charlotte’s hometown. The sweet revenge was tipped by Charlotte’s father, Ric Flair, coming down to the ring and raising her bitter rival’s arm in victory. Despite what one of their mothers was saying on Twitter to me last week (oh yes, I went there), I enjoyed the twist in the story and this week would see the fallout. Last week proved that the women could draw the ratings, so how would things play out this week?

First off, during the RAW pre-show, we had a segment where Bayley was handing out Bayley bears and holiday hugs backstage. She gives one to Cedric Alexander, but a possessive Alicia Fox jumps in. She calls Bayley a ‘scared little girl’ and refers to Cedric as her “man”. Bayley challenges her to a match on RAW, which Fox accepts… while a confused Cedric looks on.

Fast forward to the match, which was a bit of a fart compared to the amazing run of matches we’ve seen this past week. In about 3 minutes, Alicia goes back to her 2014/15 crazy erratic offence (why she didn’t wrestle like this against Nia, I will never know) until Bayley locks in a Bayley-to-belly for the win. I mean… if that was supposed to lead to a feud or anything… that’s over now.

The night also sees a really weird and slightly disturbing ‘honeytrap’ angle between Lana and her husband Rusev, which starts off with Lana seen taking off her ring and throwing it at Rusev backstage. Enzo Amore and Big Cass look on, with Enzo providing comfort for an upset Lana. She invites him to his hotel, making it pretty clear that she wants some “extra comfort”. Hesitant at first, Big Cass advises him not to calling, calling her “Trouble with a capital T”.

Throughout the night, the tale plays out with Rusev challenging Big Cass to a match and Enzo bumping into Ric Flair, who allows him to use his limousine to get to the hotel! However, Rusev doesn’t come to the match, Cass clocks what’s happening and tries to contact Enzo… but he blocks his call.

Back at the hotel, Enzo is still hesitant, but the sultry Lana seduces him into the room and gets him to strip down to his boxers. Lana then says, “Vy durak”… a confused Enzo asks her to translate, where she reveals that it means “You’re a fool”. She calls in Rusev, who lays a beatdown that would have made Attitude Era fans happy. He smashes him through a table, cracks a lamp over his back and then crushes a flower vase over the back of his head. Pretty much lifeless, Rusev drags Enzo out of the room, while Lana closes the door and places the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door… classy WWE… classy….

Also, before we get to the Women’s Championship coverage, we finally get the reveal that Emma will be transforming into Emmalina next week! Sure we have no idea what this means, but it means that we’re getting Emma back and lord knows that we need something fresh in the RAW women’s division. Dear WWE, please don’t fuck this up and turn someone who should be up there with the 4HW with a lame T&A/comedy gimmick.

Right, so onto the MAAAIIIIN EVEENNT – earlier on in the night, RAW Women’s Champion Sasha Banks throws down the challenge and proposes an Iron Man match against Charlotte at Road Block… because you know… they needed another big gimmick match right?

The ending segment of the show sees Charlotte coming to the ring, to publicly apologize to her father Ric Flair after dismissing him last May. First off, it’s revealed that she has accepted the Iron Woman match against Sasha Banks for Road Block!

Onto the apology, Charlotte replays the clip from May, recapping how she kicked her Dad out of the ring. She goes on to say how upset it made her feel to see Ric Flair celebrate with Sasha Banks last week, making her feel inferior. She starts to get tearful, saying “All I ever wanted was my Dad’s approval… no one knows what it’s like being Ric Flair’s daughter in this business?!”.

She calls him out to the ring and a tearful Ric Flair comes down to the ring. Charlotte apologises, opens up her arms and Ric gives her daughter a hug. She offers another hug, but as he moves in, Charlotte slaps the taste out of his mouth and shouts “YOU SON OF A BITCH! I’m your flesh and your blood! Who is she to dedicate her victory to MY FATHER?!”.

Sasha Banks runs down to the ring, but Charlotte dismantles her easily. Throwing her into the barricade, hitting a sick Alley-Oop into the turnbuckle and dragging her limp body in front of her Dad shouting “This is your Champion”. Showing shades of May, Ric is left in tears as he’s screwed over by his daughter one more time.

Thoughts: RAW… RAW… RAW… when I started doing the RAW Reduxes, I was so full of life and so positive, but now I’m literally writing about the same thing several months later.

As I mentioned last week, it makes us fans seem so unappreciative as Charlotte and Sasha have been doing amazing… but overkill isn’t even the word to describe it. They’ve proven that they can draw, but what the WWE needs to realize is that if they need that momentum to continue, then they need other women involved. The reason why the women’s matches at TLC didn’t click with the crowd is because even they are in the shadow of Charlotte and Sasha.

I can be frank and say that seeing these two in an Iron Man match is not something that I’d like to see. Also knowing that Charlotte has a record that I don’t see being broken soon is another big red flag. Now before one of their Mothers decides to come for me on Twitter again, I think you all know that I’m appreciative of their talents both in the ring and on the mic. They are getting ratings, they are more popular than Trish and Lita ever were, but we have absolutely nothing to gain from seeing them have another match – let alone one that lasts for 30 minutes. If you disagree with me, then I’d love to read your comments below.

Bayley and Alicia’s program, I have zero interest in. Alicia turning heel out of nowhere brings us back to 2010, Bayley being a cocky face is slowly tainting her character and Alicia/Cedric aren’t even a couple yet?! It just seemed rushed and what a waste of time for Alicia really… It seems like Emmalina will probably be more likely to get involved with these girls, so we’ll see how this plays out. This whole ‘women’s mid-card’ is causing a terrible division that it’s very hard to get into anyone else, since the focus is always on the overexposed Charlotte and Sasha.

Finally, let me talk about Lana being the honeytrap mistress – since I still don’t know how I feel about it. We’ve had to go through the PG era and they are loosening the reigns on risky content, it just felt so awkward to see Lana using her t&a and then have Charlotte/Sasha going on about a revolution and women being equal. Also, remembering how the Lana character started out… being super reserved and prestige… to seeing her flashing her boob… it’s a weird adjustment. I mean overall, it adds a whole new evil edge to her character, but seeing a man (who had already been demolished 2 times before) get savagely beaten in a hotel? Very Attitude Era! I usually love it, but it just felt so out of place.

Anyway, where do you stand with the Lana segments – like it or lump it? Can you be bothered to watch ANOTHER Banks/Flair encounter? Do you care about the RAW women’s mid-card? Let me know in the comments below.

Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte in an Iron Man match announced for Roadblock

[media-credit name=”WWE” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]roadblock2016-sasha-charlotte[/media-credit]

One week after their Falls Count Anywhere main event match, Sasha Banks and Charlotte will meet again at WWE’s Roadblock: End of the Line, this time competing in a 30-minute Iron Man match!

Earlier in the evening, Sasha was interviewed about how it felt to win back the Raw Women’s title from Charlotte in “Flair Country”.

Acknowledging that Charlotte is set for a title rematch and their earlier battles involving Charlotte’s father Ric Flair, Sasha says she wants to make history yet again by challenging Charlotte to an Iron Man match – which Charlotte accepted.

During Raw’s final segment, Charlotte offered her father a public apology, which dates back to when she dismissed her father on a May episode of RAW. Charlotte said she was ashamed of her actions from six months ago but said the only thing harder than losing her title was seeing Ric congratulate and raise Sasha’s arm high.

She would ask her father to join her in the ring, give her apology and the father/daughter looked as though they could patch things up… until Charlotte slapped Ric across the face for for his “betrayal”.

The dirty deed would cause Sasha to come out, leading to beatdown that ended with Charlotte throwing Sasha to the barricade as well as being tossed face first to a ring post.

This marks the first time in two women have competed in this stipulation under the WWE main roster umbrella. Sasha Banks previously competed in NXT’s first women’s Iron Man match against Bayley at NXT TakeOver: RESPECT.

WWE’s Roadblock: End of the Road airs Sunday, December 18th at 8 PM ET on the WWE Network.

TLC in Review: No one mourns the fallen

[media-credit name=”WWE” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]alexa-bliss-powerbombs-becky-lynch-wwe-tlc-2016[/media-credit]

It was a story of good versus evil, success vs jealousy, and the blame game. TLC took place last night and definitely left its mark on SmackDown’s women’s division. With a bitter rivalry coming to an end, a mystery slowly being unravelled and the rise of the wicked, the ladies of the blue brand have a lot ahead of them, as the game is really changing for them all.

The first women’s match to take place was the No Disqualification bout (though somehow count-outs were involved?) between the Fearless Nikki Bella and the Princess of Staten Island Carmella. The women, dressed to destroy, went right in with the attacks. Following a bit of outside action, Nikki speared Carmella as soon as the pair went between the ropes. Nikki aims to powerbomb Carmella to the side of the ring, but the Princess of Staten Island manages to toss her to the stairs via a Hurricanrana. The action goes back to the ring and Carmella’s focus is on Nikki’s hurt leg. After a few stomps, suplexes to the ropes and tying her upside down from the top turnbuckle, Carmella smashes a kendo stick across the Fearless One’s body. We also can’t forget the “you can’t see me” tease from the jealous rival.

Carmella then gets her opponent into the Code of Silence, ready for a submission win. However, Nikki’s ring awareness comes into play as she grabs a hold of the kendo stick and smashes it over Carmella’s shoulder, leading her in screaming agony. But although she’s hurt, she pushes through and takes to the outside. Just as she is about to use the stick, Nikki kicks her in the back, landing Carmella straight on the ground. The pair then attack one another by using the barricade/ring post, but it’s Nikki who takes charge. The veteran climbs on top of the fan barrier and jumps backwards to implant a roundhouse kick to Carmella’s face. The Princess of Staten Island then receives a few hits on the leg via a kendo stick and is left defenseless for a short while. Her only tactics that fall through are a kick as well as tossing Nikki to the outside – and this is where she goes wrong.

As Carmella gives herself some time to recover from the attack, she manages to do the same for her opponent. And once she goes outside to grab a hold of Nikki, she is met with the wrath of a fire extinguisher, blasting in her face. Nikki hops back into the ring and repeats this again multiple times, refusing to give Carmella time to regroup. And once she feels that the Princess of Staten Island has had enough, Nikki puts her in the Rack Attack 2.0 and walks away with the victory!

After some celebrating and an attempt to walk backstage, the Fearless One is interrupted by the words of her bitter rival. Carmella angrily tells Nikki that she’s wrong about her accusations regarding the Survivor Series attack. And though the attacker wasn’t Carmella, the loser reveals that it was Nikki’s ‘Total Divas’ friend Natalya who’d enforced the ambush a fortnight ago.

Later on in the show, the Queen of Harts is questioned on the words of Carmella. However, instead of responding to the query, Natalya chooses to wish Becky Lynch good luck for her title defense. She compliments her for representing the division so well with her athleticism and star power, before calling Carmella’s accusation “absurd” and referring to her as a “liar”.

The tables match soon follows and the champion and Alexa Bliss strut down to the ring. As soon as the match starts, Becky takes down Alexa, beating her until she’s too vulnerable to fight back. She then takes to the outside of the ring to set up a table, ready to take home the victory. Before she can do that however, Alexa kicks her in the head throws her into the barricade. Bliss then puts the table away but is quickly beaten down by Lynch. A short while later Alexa is left alone in the ring as Becky sets up a table outside. But as Becky attempts to suplex her way to victory from the side of the ring, Alexa reverses, and almost forces Lynch to crash into the table. The situation soon turns around as the pair switch positions. Unfortunately for the champion, Alexa is still holding on despite the kicks.

Becky then finds herself on the top turnbuckle whilst having Alexa literally biting into her hand, followed by a push to the middle of the ring. After a few offensive moves from Bliss, the challenger takes to the outside to set up a table. But before she can fully set it up, Becky attempts to knock her down but is quickly smashed into the stairs.

Later on, Becky finds herself in some trouble as she is laid onto a table, ready to receive a Twisted Bliss. But, fully aware of the situation, Lynch attacks her opponent before she can implement the move, thus saving herself from a loss. The pair then find themselves on the top rope, the same position in which we saw them last Tuesday. Learning from her mistakes, Lynch pushes the table away before she can fall into it. Soon the table is set into the corner and Alexa finds herself receiving a “Straight Fire” combo from Becky. This is soon followed by a few failed attempts at tossing their opponent into the corner table from both parties.

Becky manages to gain control and is readying herself to smash Alexa through a table via a suplex. But, taking note from earlier on, Bliss tosses the table over and reverses the move into a DDT – on an upside table. After some time recovering, Becky grabs a hold of Alexa and implants the Dis-arm-Her with the use of the upside down table leg, leaving the challenger screaming for release.

The women’s champion soon sets a table across the bottom rope in the top left side of the ring, with Alexa placed firmly on top. However, before she can jump onto her opponent, Alexa swings her onto the ground, saving herself from losing the bout. The action soon pours to the side of the ring (in which a set up table lays waiting nearby) where both women are holding on to save themselves by punching the other in an attempt to see them fall. Alexa quickly rakes Becky’s eyes and is forced off of the apron, though her feet land on the ground. Bliss then moves the apron to allow Becky’s leg to lose balance. Taking control of this opportunity, Alexa grabs hold of Becky and powerbombs her into the nearby table, and thus awarding her with the SmackDown Women’s championship!

A victorious Alexa takes the Women’s championship and screams “I told you! I told all of you!” at the camera and crowd. As the Wicked Witch of WWE celebrates her victory, Becky is questioned about her loss. Lynch says how she doesn’t appreciate having a microphone in her face, and that she’s upset with herself about the loss.

WWE.com then catches up with the former SmackDown Women’s champion backstage, where she seems better enough to talk. The Lass Kicker says that though she doesn’t ask the company for much, she is “begging” both Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon for another shot at the title. She ends off the video by saying that after being told that winning a title changes people, Alexa will find out that losing a title changes them even more.

On Talking Smack, a victorious Alexa Bliss turns into an emotional Alexis Kaufman. Bliss says how her family saw her perform for the first time on the main roster this same night, so it’s an even more emotional moment for them to see. Through tears she tells us about how much her mother means to her as she’s helped her through a lot of rough times.

She soon reminds us of the Dis-arm-Her that took place with the table and shares how painful her current situation is because of it. Renee Young then says that the night was incredible for both competitors but is soon shut down as Alexa doesn’t feel that she owes this victory to Becky at all. Alexa then says that despite Lynch’s “effort”, she didn’t try hard enough to win.

In regards to her upcoming challengers, Alexa says that her title win validates everything she says. And despite any of the women stepping up to her, they will never dethrone her as the face of the blue brand. She adds that she’ll be a better champion than Becky as she was “made to be a champion”, and that when WWE thought of the “new era,” they thought of none other than Alexa Bliss.

After Bliss leaves Bryan and Young boast about how proud they are of all four female competitors and that Bryan looks forward to giving them more opportunities to shine.

Thoughts: It’s not often in which we get two stipulation matches for the women. In fact, it’s literally never happened in one night before. And I can’t help but be in awe of both matches.

Carmella vs Nikki Bella, though not as intense as expected, really proved to be a competitive bout. It was clear from the start that both women hated the other and there was genuine fuel behind either lady’s flame. From the blood-fight worthy gear to the anger in their expressions, it was evident that the two competitors hated the other – and that’s how you tell a story.

Throughout the whole match both Superstar pushed the other to their limit, and it really worked wonders. The desperate attempts at hurting the opponents and the great spots truly worked well to tell this story.

My only setback is the fact that the pair weren’t allowed outside of the ring for long without being counted out – in a No Disqualification match. What stopped Bella and ‘Mella from really going all the way was the fact that their storytelling was limited to between the ropes. They couldn’t pour out into the audience, nor could they use the stage or even go to the back – unless they wanted to be counted out, that is. This feud really needed to go just that one step further, and a little while longer spent outside could’ve done that.

However, it’s understandable that the side women’s feud should never outdo the title picture. And if the pair were allowed the opportunity to go all the way, then the Tables match may not have prospered as well as it did. I mean, the crowd were already pretty exhausted during the second one, so this may not have worked in Lynch and Bliss’ favor.

And speaking of Lynch and Bliss… what a match. I absolutely loved the ring psychology and incredible chemistry between the pair. The story here was between a driven down and fed up hero fighting against the wicked and conniving villain – and this was explored tremendously throughout.

Becky has always worked best as an underdog, so it was really nice to see her try to overcome the odds against Alexa like this. Going into the feud it was really simple to paint Bliss as a passable villain that would easily be pushed aside, but SmackDown decided against that.

Instead of making Alexa look somewhat weak, creative have decided to make her not only hated, but strong as well. Despite the rake of the eyes and the pulling of the apron, it wasn’t the dirty tactics that purely lead her to her victory. Alexa is clearly seen dominating a lot of the match, and even inserts a signature move as well as clever uses of the ring to secure the victory. She doesn’t pull a quick one on a dominant hero. Instead, she shows off her abilities and proves herself as a threat – and thus pushes herself forward as a competitor.

And this only allows me to wonder what is next for Becky Lynch…

I highly doubt that Lynch will win her rematch, so the path may be misty for the former SmackDown Women’s champion. My prediction is that Carmella’s words about Natalya are all false, and in fact, it is Lynch that attacked Bella at Survivor Series. Whilst being the only champion to not captain their team, jealousy can easily arise in the Lass Kicker. And with this devastating loss happening so soon, this could be perfect ammo for a heel turn… Yes?

Also, before I end this review, I’d just like to compliment WWE creative for their use of Natalya. Her current gimmick is all kinds of hilarious, and she really is working this ‘tweener schtick well. Well done, WWE!

Allie speaks to AMBY on her TNA character

13

[media-credit name=”AMBY” align=”alignnone” width=”620″]allie-interview[/media-credit]

Former TNA Knockouts Champion Allie recently spoke with A Music Blog, Yea? (AMBY for short) to discuss women’s wrestling, signing with TNA after her collarbone injury and thoughts on why TNA fans have been so behind her Allie persona. Highlights below:

On the rise of women’s wrestling: “I’m so so proud of not only the women in our company but just women wrestlers as a whole. I think that there is a lot more attention on us. I think that we are looked as athletes now, which is something that I remember when I started back in 2004, it was still sort of the year of ‘We want puppies!’ or the Bra & Panties matches. I think it has just come a long way and it’s really exciting to see kind of where we’re headed.”

On her Allie character: “I’m really excited for the Allie character because I think that everyone has been Allie. Everyone has been bullied, everyone has been mistreated and everyone feels like they didn’t have a voice. So for Allie to finally have a voice and to say ‘No, you aren’t going to treat me this way!’, it was very amazing, I was very happy about that. Keep watching Allie because I promise this is not the first time she has found her ground. Just hold on tight because she is finding the strength and you’ll hear her roar very soon.”

On signing with TNA after her collarbone injury: “It was very emotional for me. When I got hurt I was out for six months. It was the first real injury I ever had and I had to have surgery on it. I think any athlete will tell you, when you can’t do what you’re passionate about, when you wake up in the morning thinking about what you can’t do because it is taken away from you, it really messes with your head. So when I came back, I made a promise to myself that, no matter what, this was going to be the best year. I’m just going to go out there and give it my all. So, when I was signed with my husband [TNA’s Braxton Sutter], we were signed together on the same day, it was one of the most emotional experiences in my life, I was so happy. It was a very very cool moment.”

On who her dream match would be with: “One would be Shawn Michaels. It probably would never happen but in my imaginary world it would and it would be awesome! And Trish Stratus, I love Trish Stratus.”

Allie also discusses her concerts experiences, favorite vegan meals, taste in music and television. Click here to watch the full interview!

As seen on last week’s Impact, Allie stood up for herself once again across her rivals Maria Kanellis and Laurel Van Ness. Since then, TNA have posted a video of Laurel with some harsh words and a challenge for Allie for this week’s episode of Impact:

Update: Mickie James reportedly to be part of SmackDown brand upon WWE return

Tonight at TLC, Alexa Bliss got her rematch for the SmackDown Women’s title against Becky Lynch in a Tables match and this time walking away with the gold.

Becky cornered Alexa early on and quickly went hunting for tables under the ring. Alexa caught up with Becky, managing to take her down to delay a table from being introduced.

The champion then pursued Alexa to the opposite side of the ring, setting up for a power bomb through the announcement table but Alexa held on to the ring ropes and fended herself from Becky with kicks to the head. The Superstars met back in the ring, where Becky connected a snap suplex to Alexa. Becky then retracted her steps from, pulled out a table from the ring and successfully set it up at ringside.

A battle from the ring apron began, with Alexa escaping near defeat by biting Becky’s fingers and using the ropes to choke out the champion. Alexa then set up a table of her own inside the ring.

The table would get tossed all around the ring after Alexa managed to block Becky’s Bex Plex. The challenger would turn the table upside down to land a DDT to the champion through the upturn table. Still, Becky also managed to have her own fun with the misplaced table by running Alexa’s arm through the legs of the table and locking in the Dis-Arm-Her Submission.

In the end, the initial table Becky had set up would be her downfall, as Alexa would dodge a kick from Becky and send the champion through a table via power bomb through to win her first SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Post match, Becky refused to be interviewed, citing she was disappointed in herself and the outcome of her tables match.

After three months of ambush attacks and war of words, Carmella and Nikki Bella took their feud to a no DQ match.

Nikki took down Carmella early on with a spear and the Superstars stumbled to the outside ring. Nikki set Carmella up a powerbomb to the ring apron but Carmella countered with a head scissors to the steel steps.

The action found its way back to the ring after Carmella threw Nikki to the barricade. From there, Carmella began to target Nikki’s left leg, striking the body part with a kendo stick.
When Carmella went for her Code of Silence finisher, Nikki reached for the same kendo stick used against her to strike Carmella and escape the submission hold.

The Superstars scattered to the outside again, where Nikki landed a big boot to the back of Carmella and followed up with a flying kick from the barricade. As the match came to an end, Nikki slowed down Carmella’s pace with the use of a fire extinguisher and stacked up the Staten Island Princess with a Rack Attack for the three count.

Post match, Carmella took to the mic to inform Nikki know that she wasn’t behind the Survivor Series attack that forced Nikki to be sidelined. Rather it was Nikki’s Total Divas co-star Natalya.
