CM Punk Feels WWE is “Missing the Boat” with Divas

76

WWE Superstar CM Punk made several interesting comments about the Divas division in a recent interview with Gamespot.

The outspoken Superstar criticized WWE’s use of the Divas, feeling that WWE was “missing the boat” on an entire section of viewers that the Divas could appeal to. He said: “I think even from just a business standpoint, the girls aren’t prominently featured, and we’re ignoring an entire demographic. There’s little girls out there [to who] these Divas are Wonder Woman. They’re superheroes. We’re missing the boat on that.”

Punk also discussed current Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix, and Natalya aka the Divas of Doom. He said: “Natalya Neidhart and Beth Phoenix I think are finally getting what they deserve. I think they are awesome talent.”

Speaking on who he’d like to see pushed in the company, Punk said: “I’m more apt to go with somebody who has heart, who has passion for what they do. In the past, I think the company’s almost punished people [for that]. Somebody like Nattie. She’s a Hart. It’s in her blood. To put her on the back-burner and not give her anything to do, I think it’s kind of insulting because she’s not just a Hart, she backs it up. She’s excellent in the ring. To kind of have her on ice, to me, doesn’t make any sense.”

Thoughts: It’s good to see someone in that company supporting the Divas. Punk is spot on. The Divas can bring in a different demographic to WWE, instead of just being considered eye candy for the male viewers, which it seem is their current role.

Impact Write-Up (October 13th, 2011): Traci & Velvet Rain on Karen’s Parade and Things Get (Von) Eerie

24

With just three days to go until Bound for Glory and the big four-way Knockouts Title match, the Knockouts got a brief respite from competing in the ring and instead were asked to bring their A-game on the microphone. Yay! It’s time for a good old fashioned promo to help sell this match. Nice call.

Let’s see how it all went down…

Out first is the hotly tipped favorite to win the four-way match, Velvet Sky. Will the underdog finally have her day at Bound for Glory? She’s closely followed by the former champion, Mickie James… and then rather unusually, out come Angelina Love and current champion Winter. Where’s Madison Rayne? There she is! On the arm of VP of Knockouts, Karen Jarrett, with Traci closely following. That’s a lot of Knockouts in one ring. No good can come of this.

Karen gets on the mic and tells the ladies that they’re only on the card at Bound for Glory because she got them on there, because no one wanted them there. Um, that’s as opposed to every other pay per view where there’s always a Knockouts match?

And there’s our first bitch/slut/ho comment of the evening courtesy of Karen. “I’m talking about you, Velvet”, she continues. Velvet wants to know what Karen’s problem is and tells her “Enough, already”. I guess Velvet is the Kelly to Karen’s Vickie. Karen continues to scold Velvet telling her that she’ll say when it’s enough, while Madison, Karen’s favorite new play toy, screams at Velvet also. Karen then pulls out Sable‘s old line (or, well close to it) about women wanting to be her and men wanting to see her. Karen says the crowd that Velvet draws is the “scum of the earth” amongst other things – ouch!

Velvet speaks out next, telling Karen that there will be a time when Karen will respect her. Velvet declares that she’ll be the next Knockouts Champion. “Over my dead body!” cries Karen. Meanwhile, Traci has positioned herself on all fours behind Karen and Velvet pushes her over. The two Knockouts take delight in Karen’s fall from grace, if you will. Madison and Winter defend Karen’s honor by attacking Velvet and soon Mickie gets involved too, as does Angelina. Mickie quickly evacuates Angelina from the ring and now it’s just the four women in the Knockouts Championship match brawling. Security breaks things up as the segment comes to a close.

Has that whet your appetite for Bound for Glory? Perhaps if you’re a Velvet Sky fan. This segment was all about Velvet and Karen, and not about the Knockouts Title match. It’s a shame how little emphasis has been put on Winter in both of her title reigns and with the numbers against her on Sunday, I have a feeling she will lose the title again. Winter could have been built up far more as champion and should have been the one on the microphone tonight dissing all of her opponents and getting into their heads as only Winter does. Can you imagine if Velvet, Mickie and Madison were all in the ring and Winter cut a promo on them from the ramp and all of a sudden her patented red mist/blood came down on all three of her challengers?

It looks like this segment was a set-up to Velvet winning the Knockouts Championship this Sunday after four long years. Similar to Kelly, she was an underdog, rose through the ranks and could finally be getting her moment. It’s possible that Velvet might win and go on to feud with Madison with Karen in her corner, and eventually have a match with Karen.

I thought that Karen did a good job on the mic as always. She really is TNA’s answer to Vickie Guerrero. I’d love to see those two in a segment one day!

Also on Impact this week, we saw the debut of Toxxin, who aligned herself with Ink Inc — Jessie Neal and Shannon Moore — in their feud with Mexican America.

As Mexican America, Rosita and Sarita included, beat down Jesse and Shannon, out comes the spike-haired & tattooed Von Eerie — who looks unlike any other female wrestler on TV — and takes down Rosita & Sarita with a double clothesline. Von Eerie then hits a spear on Rosita. As Ink Inc clear house, Jesse gets on the mic and tells Mexican America that they can bring their women to Bound for Glory, and they’ll bring theirs.

Great debut for Christina (who will probably get a new name soon). I think the crowd was behind her and she has a very unique look which makes her stand out from all of the other Knockouts. That is something that the division was built around when it first launched and something that should be celebrated. Christina is able to appeal to those fans, both male and female, who have the whole punk look. I’m excited to see how she develops in TNA. Working with Sarita is a great start for her as she is a steady-handed veteran and could give her some great matches on Impact.

Overall, a solid week. Ready for Bound for Glory this Sunday? I am!

What did you think of this week’s Impact?

WWE Producing Divas Reality Show

91

WWE has announced today that it will feature a Divas reality show as part of its new cable network.

The company revealed on their official website details for the show, noting: “A reality show that welcomes you aboard the private Divas tour bus as it travels from venue to venue. Cameras will roll 24/7, capturing the unscripted bonds, battles, and behind-the-scenes drama that only our WWE Divas can deliver when their public and private lives merge on the open road.”

It looks like this will be similar to shows such as Basketball Wives and Real Housewives which are incredibly popular. In fact, we suggested a show in that vein a few weeks ago.

WWE wants fans to help name the show. You can take part in a poll to determine the name here.

NXT Watch (October 12th, 2011): New Night, New Hair, Same Greatness

44

Welcome to another exciting edition of the NXT Watch!~ There may be a new day and time that the show airs, but never fear, for our rivalry between perky spitfire, AJ, and Sherri Martel circa AWA gear wearing, Maxine, is as hot as ever. They face off once more tonight to see who can better the other in one on one competition. Will AJ prove she can best her foe here tonight? Or can Maxine continue her reign of dominance as NXT’s top Diva? Let’s find out!

As we are in the midst of a verbal argument between Derrick Bateman, Maxine, Titus O’Neil, and Percy Watson, Matt Striker comes out and announces that Maxine will face AJ coming up next! We return from a commercial for the upcoming ladder match DVD (featuring an OVW classic between Beth Phoenix and Katie Lea) to see Maxine snap AJ back first on the second rope in an awesome looking neckbreaker. She covers for a two count, before throwing AJ where half of her body is on the ring apron and the other half in the ring. She bends AJ over the bottom rope until she reaches the appropriate count to let go, before viciously pounding on the plaid clad diva’s chest.

Maxine screams at the referee and drags AJ back to the center of the ring for a one count, before applying a beautiful dragon sleeper as the crowd begins to chant “LET’S GO AJ”. William Regal informs us about Maxine’s cousin, as AJ begins to fight back with punches to the face. AJ tries to Irish whip Maxine, but she counters and drops AJ throat first on the top rope. Maxine slams AJ face first into the canvas, before applying a choke hold where she digs her knee into the back of the underdog.

Maxine picks AJ up and Irish whips her into the ropes, but AJ comes back with a kick to the face. She tries for some momentum, but Maxine stops her with a running elbow to the face for a close count. She picks AJ up and hits a nice snap suplex for a two count, before going back to the Dragon Sleeper as Jack Korpela questions Maxine’s ulterior motives in her relationship with Derrick Bateman. AJ starts to fight back, but Maxine is too powerful in her dominance.

She tosses AJ into the corner, as we find out Maxine dyed her hair red because John Laurinaitis likes red heads (oh lord). Maxine becomes relentless on AJ, just beating her down. She climbs to the second rope and begins punching AJ in the face, but she takes her head off the game for a second to play to the crowd, which is just enough time for AJ to throw her back first into the canvas. Maxine gets to a vertical base, as AJ climbs to the top rope and leaps off with a beautiful crossbody for a one count.

Clothesline by AJ, followed by a slide under the legs into a reverse spin kick! Two count for AJ, as both women try their hardest to get a victory. AJ begins fighting back with an assortment of punches, until the devious Maxine capitalized with a hair pull backbreaker. She sends AJ into the corner and goes for a roll up but AJ rolls through it and lands a SICK shining wizard for the victory! AJ celebrates as the dance worthy theme hits, and Maxine seems disgusted with what has just transpired.

Thoughts: Another stellar match between AJ and Maxine. They probably have some of the best chemistry amongst the divas for me as I enjoy all of their matches together (which most of the time proves challenging for me when its a match that happens so frequently). Part of the positive is that they actually get a good length of time to wrestle each bout, which helps tham stand out from the usual 2 minute tag match on Raw. I would like to see Kaitlyn, Aksana, or Naomi come back to NXT, but I’m really enjoying seeing AJ and Maxine go at it.

Kelly Kelly Discusses Her New Aggressive Attitude, Vows There’s More to Come

100

Former Divas Champion Kelly Kelly has spoken out to WWE.com about the new attitude she displayed last week on Raw when she lost it and attacked Beth Phoenix.

Kelly told the website: “They’ve been torturing me and making me miserable for the last few months. Losing the title [to Beth at WWE Hell in a Cell] just topped it off. The next night, I let my frustrations get to me and I just let out everything I’ve been holding back.”

Kelly continues: “I’ve never done anything like that and I don’t know where it came from.”

“After five years, this is finally my time. I’m going to take it and I’m going to show people that I’m not just a pretty face.”

Finally, the Diva says: “There’s much more of this side of me to come.”

Your Two Cents: Who Should Be Beth’s Next Challenger?

57

“Your Two Cents” is the new interactive feature where we gauge the opinions of our Twitter and Facebook followers on different discussions in women’s wrestling.

This week, we’re asking this: Who should be Beth Phoenix‘s next challenger for the Divas Championship? We’ve read your responses on our social media pages and picked some of the best submissions to highlight here on the website. As always, you can join the debate by leaving your comments!

Our Two Cents

Batting for Team DD this week, it’s Cryssi giving us her personal opinion on this week’s topic:

Cryssi | When it comes to challenging for the title, there’s not exactly a list of worthy candidates at the moment. The ‘E has done a terrible job thus far of handling the Divas with the exception of a few segments. Those segments have starred Eve and Kelly, and it seems like either of them should get the next title shot. For the sake of storyline, I’m picking Eve to get the next shot. She’s been picking up the victories in tag matches and looking ahead, Kelly loses to Beth on SmackDown. Having Eve challenge and look like she has a good shot at winning could fuel Kelly’s new found aggression and maybe even be the stepping stone to an eventual 2K bad girl run. Eve could lose thanks to Kelly, but still have a front and center storyline. DoD could move on to new challengers (Chickbusters please) and everyone wins. That’s my two cents on this matter.

Your Two Cents

@carter_payne | I would have to go with a new challenger, I could see a Divas Battle Royal with Kelly Kelly being eliminated due to focusing too much on Beth on the outside (maybe on commentary) and have AJ pull out an incredible upset over Natalya (last Diva standing) to win the match. Cue Beth to announce the match will start right away and attack the exhausted AJ for an easy win. BOOM instant feud with AJ seeking back up from Kaitlyn in the Eve supporting role
@GregLucM | While a Beth vs. Eve championship match-up is sure to be better than the already-pretty-good Beth vs. Kelly championship matches, I would like to throw another name into the ring: AJ. The girl does everything one can ask for better than either Kelly or Eve. Provide a better “speedy small girl vs. powerhouse woman” dynamic? Check. Provide a better character, including established back story with being a WWE fan, meeting her idols, and suffering through NXT3? Check. Putting on better in-ring performances than either of the current top contenders? Subjectively checked. Having a name for the team she makes with her best bud? Chickbusters vs. Divas of Doom check. Something NEW? Double check.
Jhonmarco Velazquez. | I’d like to see this Kelly/Beth storyline continue, but with effort put into making this mean something! I can see Beth/Kelly at Vengeance (which ends with a no contest as Beth & Kelly fight to the outside viciously). This leads to a match at SS which Beth wins. Bigger story would be a big build up for that match with backstage segments, fights, & promos. Maybe even extending it to TLC? Could be amazing & make Kelly’s career if booked right. I mean Kelly’s matches with Beth have been great for her.
Josue Guzman | Well besides Natalya, the only real woman I can see Beth going head to head with is Tamina. I enjoyed Tamina’s matches against Natalya when they were part of the Usos/Hart Dynasty feud. Her moveset goes beyond the average kick, slap and dreadful roll up that most of the Divas seem to use. She has been so underused as of lately that now would be a great time to give her the push she deserves! If done correctly this can be one of the greatest Divas feud we’ve seen in a long rime.
Spicey-Spice Donoghue | As of the current active division it’ll have to be the vivacious Alicia Fox! I was so pleased when she won the divas championship last year at fatal four way and even prouder that she showed how she could carry the title with skill and finesse. As of now there is only one other diva that could and should be mentioned in this and that is Tamina. However, my thoughts are once Layla and (most looking forward too) Maryse return, the landscape could change completely!
Tom Fox | Kharma‘s departure has seriously rocked the division. It seemed the ‘E knew their direction with Kharma but with her gone until at least Wrestlemania, all of this stuff what they are doing now is just filling until Kharma comes back and then they carry on from where they left off. As for the next challenger.. I’m thinking it’ll be Layla when she returns in a few months or even Maryse if she they decide to turn her face. I can 100% say that around the time of Wrestlemania, the twins will be the champion again and Kharma will return and take them out. DOD/kelly/eve thing will be long forgotten.

And one last opinion from someone rather close to the issue:

@TheBethPhoenix | it doesnt matter. The PinupStrong Movement will never stop rolling on!!! @NatbyNature and I r ruling the world!!!

And now we turn it over to you…

What are your two cents on the debate? Who should be Beth’s next challenger? Tell us in the comments…

Gail Kim Live Shoot Interview Highlights: Why She Quit WWE and More

1

In a live shoot interview tonight, Gail Kim spoke on record for the first time about why she quit WWE, the Divas division and walking out of a battle royal on Raw in her final appearance.

A few highlights below:

* Gail reveals that the Divas today are told: “You’re getting too physical” and “You’re getting too good”, indicating that they don’t want the women to upstage the male wrestlers.

* Gail says she got the opportunity to be in a documentary about successful Korean people but WWE wouldn’t let her do it.

* Gail says winning Knockouts Title meant more than winning Women’s Title because it wasn’t just handed to her. She says she was part of building the division and that made it more special.

* Low-Ki told her about Awesome Kong (Kharma). When they were talking about who to bring in for the division, Gail said why don’t we bring in Kong — she had never seen her work or even a picture of her but thought she would be unique for the division.

* As far as she knows, she never knew of ideas for her to work with Kharma in WWE in a storyline, but they had plans to have her work Kharma’s first singles match.

* Gail says the plan was for Kharma to feud with Beth Phoenix.

* Gail says the Knockouts never talked about their pay in TNA. Any frustration was between talent and office, not with each other.

* Gail on leaving TNA: She was in contract negotiations, but was having financial issues. She says the pay she was being offered, she couldn’t accept at that time. WWE reached out and offered her more money. She said she spoke to everyone in the TNA office and bawled when she spoke to Jeff Jarrett. She says: “When life takes over, you have to do what you have to do to pay your bills.”

* On re-signing with WWE, Gail says Johnny Ace told her that the creative team was so excited to have her back and had ideas for her. Hmm… really?

* Gail says she was offered a training position in FCW but turned it down because she felt she still had a lot to offer in her career.

* Gail says every week there’d be a new rule for the Divas like “no kicking”, “no punching” etc. “It was so frustrating.” WWE wanted “more girliness” in Divas matches.

* Gail says it’s sad that the Women’s Title was retired. WWE needs two titles for both shows. She says the Divas were sad about it.

* Gail reveals that she had four boob jobs. She says she never felt pressure from WWE to do it and even asked her mom in high school to have breast implants. “No pressure.” Never heard a story about there being pressure.

* Gail says she heard rumors that the Daniel Bryan/Bella Twins storyline ended because the network thought it wasn’t heading in a very PG direction, so she was brought in as his girlfriend to end the storyline. Gail says fans, Vince and Kevin Dunn loved the Gail/Bellas catfight when she was revealed as DB’s girlfriend.

* Gail says she was ready to quit the day that she was revealed as Daniel Bryan’s girlfriend, but prolonged it because she was finally being used.

* Gail says she felt slapped in the face and disrespected by a series of events and doesn’t take back her action of eliminating herself in the Divas battle royal. She recalls one instance when she went out to the ring with Daniel Bryan as his manager, but when she got to ringside, she was told to go to the back. She had just stood in 10 minutes in gorilla position with Vince and others there, however she wasn’t told she wasn’t supposed to go out. Agents told her she was going out. However, when she went out there, she was told to go back. She felt disrespected and spoke to Johnny Ace.

* Gail says she felt frustrated in WWE. She had been approached about re-signing by Johnny Ace but said she definitely wasn’t going to re-sign. She didn’t know how much longer she was going to last. The night of the battle royal came on Raw. She felt that the Divas were treated as a joke but tried to make the best of every situation. She says the battle royal came and they were told, “Everybody has to get out of the ring as fast as possible in the first minute”. She says other things happened that day but won’t reveal what happened. She felt disrespected at that moment and wanted to be disrespectful back, thus eliminating herself. She does admit it was childish. She went to the back & none of the agents or higher-ups noticed that she had eliminated herself. Later on in the night, she quit and told Johnny that he eliminated himself and he laughed! They didn’t notice or care.

* She says when she quit, Johnny Ace offered her the training role in FCW again but she turned it down. She says he wouldn’t let her quit. She said she wanted walk away & offered to give up the money. They told her she has to wait for her contract to run out. They didn’t want her working for any other wrestling companies.

Gail says she went into the locker room at Raw and announced to the Divas that she had quit. Everyone was shocked and sad.

Gail says she told Johnny to stop controlling her. She just wanted to be free. She says she told them to keep their money but they wouldn’t let her walk. They had a lawyer call her and explain the ‘legal repercussions’ of her quitting.

* Gail on WWE hiring models instead of independent wrestlers: She says that’s what it is right now. Girls like Beth and Natalya are a rare breed. She thinks women can be a draw & have kick ass matches.

* Regarding “that match” with Mickie James: They were very excited to have the match and planned too much. She wasn’t injured. They tried to call it on the fly but it didn’t work. She says, “We’re human”.

* Gail says she’d love for the girls to be treated equally. She wants to see them be given the same opportunities as the men. It’s frustrating being held down. She says the Knockouts division is proof that people want to see women’s wrestling.

Stay tuned for a live after show at 11pm on Diva Dirt. Call in on 347-989-8156.

Eve Thinks the Divas of Doom Should Be “Looking Over Their Shoulders”

In a new WWE.com video, Eve Torres talks about her and teammate Kelly Kelly‘s victory on last Monday’s Raw, clearly pleased that she got the chance to prove herself and happy with Kelly’s new aggressiveness.

Upon hearing that Beth Phoenix and Natalya were watching the match backstage, Eve wondered if they looked concerned and said that they probably should be. “Maybe,” she mused, “they’re the ones who should be looking over their shoulders.”

Indy Spotlight: Jessie McKay

15

You may know her as “Everybody’s Favourite Girlfriend”: originally from Sydney, Australia, but having already worked for some of the USA’s top independent promotions (SHIMMER Women Athletes, Slammin’ Ladies, Ring of Honor, CHIKARA and CZW, to name just a few), Jessie McKay is fast becoming a fan favourite everywhere around the world.

Trained by Australian wrestling veterans Madison Eagles (who is now entering her second year as the SHIMMER Champion) and Ryan Eagles (also making a name for himself in the US) at the Eagles Wrestling Academy, the 5’8″ McKay made her wrestling debut on June 23rd, 2007 – an important date to be sure, as it was also the day McKay celebrated her 18th birthday. Her first match was actually a triple threat featuring not only her trainer Madison Eagles, but also Aurora. Madison and Jessie went on to feud for several months, including partaking in a particularly brutal Tables Match (won by Eagles, but not before Jessie had gained both hers and the crowds respect for the beating she took). From there Madison took McKay under her wing, forming the heel tag-team, ‘The Pink Ladies’. The Pink Ladies later added a third to their group, rocker Penni Lane, and wreaked havoc on everyone in PWA Australia – men and women alike – for much of the next year.

McKay picked up her first championship in August 2008, claiming the PWWA Title from then-holder (and current SHIMMER wrestler) Kellie Skater. She won it a second time in September 2009 after defeating Skater, Sway and Shazza McKenzie in a fatal four way match.

Jessie has spent the years following honing her craft both in her home country of Australia and overseas as well… now, with four years of experience under her belt, she has been impressing in international matches against the likes of former TNA Knockout Cheerleader Melissa, Sara Del Rey, joshi wrestler Ayako Hamada and especially in a well-garded SHIMMER title match against her trainer Madison Eagles on SHIMMER Volume 35. She spent much of 2010 feuding with Canadian NINJA Nicole Matthews, the two of them exchanging wins and losses across several volumes on the SHIMMER series (Matthews settled the score when she pinned McKay in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match on SHIMMER Volume 39.)

Back home, she has gained many frequent flyer points and racked up many miles travelling all over the country: from Sydney to Queensland (PWA Queensland, where she teamed up with Shazza McKenzie to form ‘The Mac Attack’), Adelaide (NWA Pro and Riot City Wrestling), Melbourne (Warzone Wrestling), Perth (New Horizons Pro Wrestling, where she’s wrestled against both Amazing Kong and Nikki Roxx) and back again.

Jessie boasts an arsenal of impactful moves like the hurricanrana, head scissors and the ‘Chick Kick’, but puts her opponents down for the count with a sit-out uranage (cutely titled the ‘Boyfriend Stealer’) or a Northern Lights Driver and tries to make them tap to an Octopus Stretch named ‘7 Minutes in Heaven’. She cites her future aspirations as ‘being the best wrestler that she can be’ and wants to keep learning and improving. Getting signed by either WWE or TNA is her dream goal – and the sky is the limit for this young wrestler.

Outside of wrestling, you will find Jessie McKay in her room playing video games or watching movies – she calls herself a ‘big geek’, as well as a huge movie buff! McKay has also played basketball since she was six years of age, and now plays in the ABA League for the Bankstown Bruins.

Jessie most recently wrestled for AAW on September 30, teaming up with MsChif and Nevaeh to take on Madison Eagles, Mena Libre and Sassy Stephie. She also appeared on all four SHIMMER volumes filmed October 1 and 2, taking on the likes of Portia Perez, Mia Yim, Athena, future WWE diva Britani Knight and Hiroyo Matsumoto. She followed this up with a match against famed joshi wrestler Kana in CHIKARA October 7.

Many of her matches can be purchased over at our partner site, ClickWrestle.com.

Raw Redux (October 10th, 2011): A Refreshing Match But What Was the Point?

148

This week’s Raw was pretty lackluster in terms of storyline continuation and just overall performance, and honestly it has nothing to do with the ladies involved. We were actually treated to a fresh new match-up that I kind of enjoyed, but there was something lacking. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but lets just take a look at how the match played out. This week we saw Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres take on SmackDown’s Rosa Mendes and Tamina.

To start things off, we were treated to a video package highlighting what happened between Kelly, Eve, and the Divas of Doom last week. It set us up for the match, which had both teams already in the ring. Rosa decided to start things off against Kelly. She begins her attack by shoving the former Diva’s Champion, which does nothing but infuriate the blond bombshell. Kelly takes Rosa to the corner and starts working her over by slamming the brunette’s head into the turnbuckle. Kelly resorts to kicking, as well, until the referee gets involved and sends her back. A feisty Kelly goes to the opposite side and comes back with her handspring/back elbow combo which Rosa nearly mucks up by coming out from the corner too early. No surprise there. Kelly’s not fazed and simply climbs to the top, wraps Rosa in a choke, and bends backwards over the ropes. The referee counts down and the Florida native flips onto the ground, reaches in, and jerks Rosa’s legs out from underneath her. Kelly climbs back into the ring, stomps the crap out of Rosa, and eventually has to be restrained by the referee. That allows Rosa to make the tag to Tamina.

Tamina lumbers into the ring but is met with a Thesz Press. Kelly takes some of her aggression out on Tamina, but the stronger competitor overcomes it and finally knocks Kelly off her game. She clubs the former ECW dancer in the back to bring her down to the mat and drops a knee across Kelly’s throat. Tamina backs up to the ropes and uses the momentum to go for a splash, but Kelly is able to move. She crawls to her corner, makes the tag to Eve, and for some reason, Eve hesitates before getting into the ring. Tamina, who is back up to her feet, brings Eve into the ring herself, but Eve dodges the flip attempt by landing on her feet and turning Tamina’s offense into a beautiful arm drag takedown. Both ladies get back to their feet, but it’s time to show off her flash. Tamina is sent to the mat and Eve backs against the ropes only to come back with a front somersault. She lands squarely in Tamina’s mid-section and hooks the leg for a cover. Rosa makes the save.

As Rosa is celebrating, Kelly takes exception to her actions, and lets her know about it via a running bulldog. She kicks Rosa out of the ring, follows her to the outside, and lets Eve have the spotlight. Eve brings Tamina up, but the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snuka drives Eve into the corner. Eve battles back with an elbow to Tamina’s jaw and springs off the middle rope with a fancy little kick that sends Tamina into the perfect position for one of Eve’s finishers. Eve checks behind her to make sure all is well, and then she climbs to the top rope. One perfect looking moonsault later, Tamina is pinned, and the tag team of Eve and Kelly have picked up yet another win.

Kelly climbs back into the ring to celebrate with her BFF, and backstage we see that Beth Phoenix and Natalya, fresh from the Occupy Raw rally, are watching and making faces at the monitor.

I had kind of hoped we were past the point of DoD standing backstage and making faces, but that’s what we were treated to tonight. Their outfits were lovely if I could be superficial for a moment, and Beth just look fantastic. Normally, Nattie is my fashionista, but I think she got upstaged by the champ tonight. That aside, the match wasn’t bad sans Rosa’s timing issues. Tamina has improved a lot, and I noticed that last week when I watched her match with AJ in person. I think she’s going to end up being someone I like watching, and I will say that this match-up was truly a breath of fresh air. It was different, and the chemistry was there for the most part. I kind of want to see Eve and Tamina in a singles match. Tonight was the first night Eve’s moonsault blew me away. It was picture perfect. The match was good, it sucks that it came at a time where it meant absolutely nothing. I wish the Divas would have had more time, and I wish there was actually more for me to write about.

Sadly there’s not. It was just a throw away night for the Divas, and a perfectly good match ended up wasted. Lets hope SmackDown is a little better. Until next week… Cryssi out!

FCW Watch (October 9th, 2011): Naomi (w/ Cameron Lynn) vs. Leah West

Welcome to another one of our thrilling FCW Watches, featuring the ladies of the developmental system in all their sometimes creepy, sometimes amusing glory. The reason I say this is because tonight we have two things to discuss. The first being the arena debut of Raquel Diaz‘s new stable, The Ascension…with the second being a match featuring the sexy fruit roll up, Naomi Night, accompanied by Cameron Lynn (Ariane Andrew) and Byron Saxton, facing off against the debuting Leah West (Irena Janjic). And if that wasn’t enough, on commentary is none other than one of our NXT residents, AJ! Without any further ado, let’s get started!

Up first, we have the grand debut of the Ascension! A Stable involving Raquel Diaz, Conor O’Brian, Kenneth Cameron, and Tito Colon.

As we open to the next segment, our Pikachu clad AJ is seen on commentary with William Regal and Matt Martlaro. She states that she’s out here to scout the divas competition, as the debuting Leah West makes her entrance into the arena. AJ tells the world that Leah is the first Australian diva and has trained at Lance Storm’s school in Canada. Impressive! Just then, the music of Byron Saxton hits, as he enters with his arm still in sling. Once Byron makes his way out to the stage, he raises his hand into the air and some funked up disco music hits, as the best thing to hit my eyes since life itself, Naomi and Cameron Lynn booty pop their way out to the stage.

As they are announced, they start getting down! No words can explain the level of approval I have at this entire group right now. Cameron makes sure her new blonde hair is secure, as Byron leads our new female dance group to the ring…not before they engage in a team booty pop though. They finally enter the ring, as the two execute a Charlie’s Angels like pose down. From there, they walk over to the ropes and throttle one of their legs over the top as they do a dance down blanacing act (Yeah I didn’t know what to say here…too in awe of this brilliance). Some rump shaking follows suit, as Naomi removes her wig and hands it off to Cameron. She makes sure Naomi looks presentable, as both she and Byron finally exit the ring and we get started.

“HOLLA!”

The two lock up, as Naomi takes control with a side headlock. Leah reverses it into an elbow lock, proceeding into a headlock of her own. Naomi fights out and sends Leah into the ropes, only she comes back with a shoulder tackle as AJ compares Naomi to a sexy fruit roll up that both she and I dig right now. Leah goes to run off the ropes, but Naomi grabs her by the leg and boots her in the side of the head. She sends Leah flying into the second rope, before adding a kick to the stomach for good measure.

Naomi begins to ruthlessly beat down on Leah with various kicks and shots to the back. A European uppercut sends West into the second rope, as Naomi chokes her with her boot. A 2 Count for Naomi, as she then locks in a sleeper hold. As we learn that Naomi’s greatest strength is her backside, Naomi sends Leah into the ropes. West comes back with a kick to the shoulder, but Naomi impales her with a brutal clothesline out of nowhere for a near fall. Our former champion kicks West in the stomach and runs off the ropes. She attempts to go for a running facebuster (ala Melina) but Leah simply tosses her down and stops any form of maneuver!

On the outside, Cameron Lynn can be heard freaking out, as Leah takes control with a few chop blocks to the face, followed by a nice kick to the head for a close call. Leah picks Naomi up and drops her with a reverse style DDT, but does not secure the three count needed. As she goes to pick Naomi back up, Night nails her with a jawbreaker. Leah is thrown into the corner, and as Naomi comes charging forth, West lifts her over the top rope and she lands on the ring apron. Night slams her head into the turnbuckle pad, and begins scaling the top rope. From there, she leaps off with a beautiful overhead neckbreaker for the victory! Post win, of course Cameron is extatic, as the places Naomi’s wig back on her head, and the two begin a dance in the middle of the ring, which also features some sick splits by Lynn!

Thoughts: Best thing I’ve ever seen. It may not be a popular opinion once this is posted, but if you can entertain me that much, I’m won over. Naomi, Cameron, and Byron have gotta be called up with this so that the world can see what we have just witnessed. Aside from my general awe about the sexy fruit roll up and her dancing blonde partner, I also thought the match was solid. I’m glad that Leah debuted on TV because I enjoy watching her, and she can only grow from here on out. Onto the Ascension, it is also the best thing I’ve ever seen. Im honestly torn with so much greatness involving stables on this episode that I’m running out of words to say so I’ll just let others take it away.

The show will still take place on November 19th and feature the same card, which is headlined by a WarGames Steel Cage match and Melina‘s first post-WWE match against Serena.

The NYWC Sportatorium is located on 435-13 Brook Avenue, Deer Park, NY 11729.

The November 19 iPPV was originally to be broadcast from the ACE Arena on 725 Sip Street in Union City. Recently the owner of 725 Sip Street, and not any of its tenants including ACE Pro Wrestling, has come under fire from the city of Union City. We are being told the City is seeking damages from the owner as a result of unpaid taxes and fines. Mike Morgan and ACE Pro Wrestling, acting separately from the building’s owner, have met with the City in hopes of coming to an agreement to continue the building’s operation. For the record, any of the the building’s tenants, nor the City itself, has had any contact with the building’s owner. WSU delayed on making any sort of announcement until these conversations took place. And as soon as it became clear that a resolution would not be met within a reasonable time frame, WSU sought an alternative host for what will prove to be the biggest live event in WSU history.

WSU looks forward to continuing it’s working relationship with ACE Pro Wrestling. Mike Morgan and his staff work extremely hard to ensure a quality experience for promotions and their fans, we look forward to once again working with ACE Pro Wrestling.

Acting on short notice, NYWC, a promotion WSU has maintained a three-year working relationship with, has made the necessary accommodations to host the Breaking Barriers iPPV. Fans and promoters alike already know the venue is fantastic for pro wrestling. The all-wrestling venue offers great sight lines, ample seating, professional lighting, full concessions, four restrooms, a great sporting atmosphere and plenty of free parking!

Public Transportation is also easily accessible for fans from New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia via the LIRR from Penn Station. The NYWC Sportatorium sits just five minutes south of the Deer Park LIRR Station. For travel information please contact WSU directly or visit NYWCwrestling.com.

Those already holding pre-ordered tickets for the Breaking Barriers 2 iPPV need not do a thing. All tickets for 11/19 in Union City, NJ will be still be guaranteed first entry. Those holding pre-ordered tickets without the means to travel to the Sportatorium are offered the option of a fully refunded ticket or a Free Stream of the Live Breaking Barriers iPPV Broadcast plus a free WSU DVD courtesy of WSUVideo.com. WSU is somehow even more excited to meet the bright lights of New York. The full card listed below remains intact, and represents the most important WSU show of all-time. Melina Comments on “Occupy Raw”, Says She Would Have Walked Out

49

Former WWE Diva Melina fielded a question from a Twitter follower tonight on the topic of the “Occupy Raw” storyline, giving her take on the walkouts and what she thinks the WWE Universe deserves to receive from the “1%” of the WWE that is in power:

“I don’t watch the show but this is my take, I would have walked out on the people who tell lies to the WWE Universe who say they fight for them and that they are trying to make a change but they aren’t trying at all.

That “1%” who are only out for themselves and don’t care who they step on to get there do not have my respect. I’d walk out on those hypocrites but that has nothing to do with the fans. I would walk out on the people strangling the art of wrestling because The Fans DESERVE to see the talent they love get opportunities! The WWE Universe DESERVES to see The BEST in sports entertainment which is not being provided. I would walk out on those who are keeping the Fans from getting that.

As I said before, I do not watch so I don’t know what the story lines are or what’s going on. I’m just pretending what I would do in an imaginary scenario that has lots of truth behind it.”

Do you agree with Melina? Does the WWE’s “1%” not have the fans’ best interests at heart? Is this storyline (perhaps inadvertently) representing the frustration of fans who want better wrestling?

You can follow Melina on Twitter at @RealMelina.
