First Diva (Kinda) Confirmed for WWE ’12 is…

37
Kelly in last year's SmackDown vs Raw 2011

It can be all but confirmed that Kelly Kelly will appear in WWE’s new video game, WWE ’12, due for release later this year.

K2 will be appearing at the E3 convention next week in Los Angeles to help promote the game along with The Miz and Alberto Del Rio, both of whom have been confirmed.

Obviously, with Kelly on hand for promo, it can be deduced she’ll be in the actual game. Of course, though not officially confirmed by WWE and THQ, there really isn’t any doubt that Kelly will make the cut as she’s in the top tier of Divas who appear every year.

THQ’s press release about the game below:

Bobbi Billard Raising Money to Fight Pancreatic Cancer

0

Former WWE developmental Diva, Bobbi Billard, is attempting to raise money for PANCAN, a cause that helps research and fight pancreatic cancer. Having lost her own father to the illness, her goal is to raise $1 million dollars in charity.

Bobbi says:

[notice]Dear Friends –

Thank you so much for helping me reach my goal to raise $1 million to fight pancreatic cancer! I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer when I was only 19, and my whole world crumbled. I watched him suffer from this horrible disease and knew that I didn’t want anyone else to go through what he went through.

Pancreatic cancer has the worst survival rate and is the most under funded of all major cancers. 76% of pancreatic cancer patients will die within 12 months from their diagnosis, and a mere 6% survive for five years!!! The only way to change the horrible statistics is to raise as much money as possible for research! We’ve seen what research efforts have done for other diseases. Let’s raise money to fund research NOW for pancreatic cancer and not let another person lose someone they love.[/notice]

If you would like to donate to this very worthwhile cause, and help Bobbi to reach her goal of $1 million dollars, please click here. As of writing, she has raised over $26,000 dollars.

If you would like to learn more about PANCAN and what they do, visit their official website.

For those interested, Bobbi’s last appearance in wrestling was when she worked for Italy’s NU Wrestling Evolution as a valet. She was controversially released from the WWE in April 2004 after suffering a neck injury whilst training in OVW with Ivory and Jacqueline. In July 2004, she underwent level two neck fusion surgery with Dr. Lloyd Youngblood, who has treated the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Edge and Lita in the past. In late 2009, she was signed for Wrestlicious but never made an appearance on the show.

Raw Redux (May 30th, 2011): Kharma Drops a Bomb and Kelly Bashes The Bellas

63

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Raw Redux! With Kharma out of the way for the foreseeable future, the Divas are able have their tag team matches without fearing for their lives. HOORAY!!! This week Kelly Kelly and Eve team up to take on the Bella Twins. Who will come out on top? Check out the match below:

We start off with The Bella in the ring, clad in leopard print gear. Kelly and Eve make their entrance next to a good pop from the crowd. As they make their way to the ring, we’re treated to a video package of Kelly Kelly on the red carpet of the Maxim Hot 100 party. Back to the ring, Brie Bella and Eve are kicking things off for their respective teams. The referee signals for the bell and our match is underway.

The Divas start off with a lockup, and Eve gets the upperhand on Brie, locking in a side headlock. Brie manages to fight out and levels Brie with a shoulder block. Eve hits the ropes, but Brie see her coming and rolls out of the way. Eve transitions into a nifty hands-free cartwheel, followed by a deep armdrag into an armbar.

Kharma Announces Pregnancy Live on Raw

Firmly in control of the match, Eve tries to whip Brie of the rope, but is countered by the devious Divas Champion. Eve comes back with a counter of her own, leaping over Brie and rolling her up with a sunset flip for a near fall. Brie tries to reverse the pin, but Eve quickly transitions into a really nifty submission hold.

Seeing her sister in trouble, Nikki baits Kelly into coming into the ring, distracting the referee. With the official’s attention on Kelly, Nikki runs in, kicks Eve in the head and switches places with Brie in the process.

Nikki drags Eve to the Bella corner and the twins work over Eve with frequent tags, before taking her down with a double team maneuver for a two count. Brie throws Eve into the ropes and chokes her out, prompting the referee to pull her away. Nikki uses the distraction as a chance to land a stiff kick to Eve’s head. Ouch.

The Bellas tag once again and Nikki kicks Eve in the head once again, before locking in a front chancery. After a bit of struggle, Eve counters with a modified Northern Lights suplex, taking Nikki off of her feet. Nikki tries to get back in control, but Eve crawls between her legs and makes the hot tag to a fresh Kelly Kelly.

Kelly comes in like a house of fire, taking Nikki down with a Thesz Press, followed by an ass slap. Kelly followed up with her whirlybird headscissors, followed by a stinkface in the corner. Finally, Kelly lands a bulldog out of the corner and goes for the pin, which is broken up by Brie. Before Brie can do any more damage, Eve comes to the rescue, taking her out with a dropkick. With Brie neutralized, Kelly finishes Nikki off with the K2 to pick up the win for her team.

All in all, a pretty good match from the Divas this week. I thought Kelly played her role well as the hot tag and did better than she has in past weeks. I was really impressed with Eve tonight. You can tell she has been working on her craft and is getting better and better as a result. I really wish we would have seen this side of Eve when she had the Diva Championship a while back.

The Bellas also impressed me this week. They’re starting to work like an actual tag team, and not just like two Divas tagging together, which is a good thing. I was pretty skeptical when Brie won the belt, but I think she’s she’s starting to come into her own as a champion and as the top heel on Raw. Not bad for someone who was just eye candy last year. Hopefully, WWE doesn’t drop the ball with the Bellas, as they’ve done with countless other Divas.

Also on this week’s Raw, Kharma addressed the WWE Universe and dropped a bomb on them. Watch the segment below:

Wow. A very touching moment from Kharma. I never expected WWE to let Kharma talk about her wrestling past (or say the word ‘wrestling’, to be honest) or her personal life on the air. I assumed WWE would have some way to write Kharma out of the division for the time being. Very classy move on WWE’s part to let Kharma have that moment with the fans.

A Londoner’s Eye: Looking Back at a Month of Kharma

I also have to give an honorable mention to the Bellas, who piggybacked on Kharma’s announcement to get some realy good heat from the fans. If the audience was indifferent to the Bellas before, they definitely hate them now (which is a good thing). If the Bellas are going to be the top heels, they need all the heat they can get and this was a great way to get it.

In closing, excellent Divas action this week. With Kharma out of the picture for now and Kelly Kelly pinning the Divas champion tonight, I see a Kelly/Bella feud in the near future. Or maybe someone new will step up to the plate? Or maybe we’ll have another tag team match… yay… In any case, we’ll have to wait till next week’s Raw to find out.

A Londoner’s Eye: Looking Back at a Month of Kharma

It’s hard to believe that Kharma arrived on the scene just one month ago. It was May 1st that Kharma finally debuted at Extreme Rules, crushing a departing Michelle McCool with the Implant Buster signalling that she had arrived. Now, just one month later, it is Kharma who is departing having announced her pregnancy last night on Raw. Unlike Michelle however, this isn’t an indefinite goodbye as Kharma says she’ll be back in one year.

It’s going to be a long wait until we get to see Kharma in the ring again, but we’ll always have this past month… And what a month it was.

Kharma burst into the WWE, breaking through the company’s self-imposed barriers about what a Diva should look like. Fans had been calling for WWE to sign the former Awesome Kong since she departed TNA last year, but it had to be seen to be believed. Would WWE actually sign someone who didn’t fit their ‘mold’? I remained confident that WWE would eventually snap up a guaranteed attraction talent, and they finally did in December last year. Even before debuting earlier this month, Kharma had already scored a personal victory. As mentioned last night on Raw, she had dreamed of being in the WWE her entire career and even auditioned for Tough Enough 2 only to be turned away. Now here was WWE, 10 or so years later, asking her to join them.

In the month since Kharma arrived, there has been a buzz about the Divas division the likes of which we haven’t seen in years. Kharma brought intrigue back into the division, making even casual fans look forward to seeing her crush the Diva du jour. That then translated into ratings for the Divas segment gaining viewers, rather than losing them, a few weeks ago. The talk about Kharma on the Internet in the last month has also been fever pitch. As has been proven time and time again in wrestling history: Give people an attraction like Kharma and they will watch and they will talk about it.

With the arrival of Kharma, there has been more of a focus on the Divas, in particular longer segments on Raw in the past few weeks. It’s a shame that it took Kharma to light a fire under the writers when it comes to the ladies, but looking at the bigger picture, the more buzz Kharma can bring, the better it is for the division as a whole. Of course, it’s highly likely that we’ll go back to 2-3 minute matches between next week and when Kharma returns next year, but we got a glimpse of what could possibly be done with a Diva if she got the time and energy invested in her as Kharma did. It felt foreign to me that a Diva would get the hype that Kharma got for her announcement throughout last night’s episode of Raw, but again, that is proof of the attention Kharma commands as every half hour we saw Michael Cole hype up that segment signifying that it was an important part of the broadcast.

Rather than undo the development they put into Kharma this past month, WWE should re-use the example they set with her and put that investment into other Divas. Give those Divas the same hype and the same strong booking. Give those girls an opportunity. I think fans — and most importantly, the critics — will be surprised at just how much these girls can do when given the chance. Then when Kharma, who has proven to be a big attraction for WWE in one month alone, returns next year, she’ll have some pretty decent competition to work with. Think about it: The buzz and increase in ratings we’ve seen this month could be even bigger.

It’s a testament to Kharma and her star power that in just one month she accomplished a lot. Sure, it wasn’t something tangible to the viewing audience like a championship, but in some ways, it’s far bigger than a belt. Kharma gave us a glimpse of what the WWE Divas can be, and what we can be if we chase our dreams. (Very Oprah of me, I know.)

For a month, Kia Stevens, the woman behind Kharma, got to live out her dream job and now she gets to live out another dream of being a mother. Congratulations and well wishes to Kia in this exciting new chapter in her life. It’s going to be a life-changing experience that I’m sure she’ll love minute of.

As for Kharma? Well, the countdown is on until we hear that sinister laughter play over the sound system in a year’s time…

New WSU Tag Team Champions Crowned, Jillian vs Kristin Astara & More

Women Superstars Uncensored have crowned brand new tag team champions.

At the PWS event in Queens, NY, last Friday, the team of Amber and Lexxus (The Boston Shore) defeated Marti Belle and Tina San Antonio (The Belle Saints) to win the WSU Tag Team Championships.

The Belle Saints were forced to vacate the titles in March, just days before WSU’s 4th Anniversary show, when Tina San Antonio was sidelined with an ankle injury. Marti Belle went on to reclaim the gold when she brought in former WWE and ECW alumni Jazz as her tag team partner, and it was later determined that the belts could be defended under the ‘Freebird Rule’, with San Antonio able to defend the titles as well.

The Belle Saints will get a rematch at the WSU’s June 25th event but it seems as though the two might not be even on the same page. Marti commented on the loss on Twitter:

“I can not believe that just happened. I am honestly at a loss for words. When you think someone’s got your back, they’re just not there.”

She also responded to a fan whom asked her whether she thought she and Jazz would be a better team than she and Tina:

“….I’m torn, I love Tina and owe her a lot but she’s really changed a lot. Only time will tell.”

It is also worth noting that The Boston Shore currently have an undefeated tag team record in their two years of being a team in WSU, so this should prove to be a very interesting match.

If you would like to pre-order WSU’s Uncensored Rumble iPPV on June 25th to see the rematch, click here.

This past Friday night, at a PWS show in Queens, NY, The Boston Shore (Amber & Lexus) defeated The Belle Saints to win the WSU Tag Team Titles.

It has been a rollercoaster of a ride for The Belle Saints & Jazz. When Tina San Antonio went down with injury, Jazz joined the Belle Saints in defending the WSU Tag Team Titles. However, it seems in recent times that Tina San Antonio isn’t nearly as excited nor ecstatic about Jazz defending the WSU Tag Team Titles as Marti Belle is.

Tina’s questioning of Marti’s motive cost them when the Belle Saints met the Boston Shore in a WSU Tag Team Title match at a PWS show in Queens, NY.

The Boston Shore, who already held a win over the Belle Saints at the WSU 3 Year Anniversary Show went into this tag team title showdown as an undefeated unit.

With miscommunication, the Belle Saints handicapped themselves against one of the strongest tag teams in womens wrestling today.

In a ten minute match, Amber hit an enziguri on Marti Belle, allowing Lexus to pin Marti Belle, giving The Boston Shore their first ever taste of WSU Tag Team Gold!

As a result of the Belle Saints loss, WSU has signed The Boston Shore vs The Belle Saints for the WSU Tag Team Titles on the 6/25 “Uncensored Rumble IV” iPPV. This will be The Boston Shore’s first WSU Tag Team title defense.
——-

Another match on 5/27 at the PWS show in Queens, NY saw Brittney Savage dominate and make short work of newcomer Nikki Styx. Savage defeated Styx quickly after a diamond cutter. Savage, who put up her #1 Contender spot, as she is the 2011 J-Cup winner, looked more motivated and calculating than ever before. WSU World Champion, Mercedes Martinez, who has made over 40 World Title defenses in her 27 month World Title reign has been billed as the favorite in the 6/25 showdown between Martinez & Savage. However several experts are predicting that it is Savage’s time in WSU. If 5/27 was any indication, Martinez may be facing her toughest challenge yet.

Kharma Announces Pregnancy Live on Raw

51

After a week long tease over her announcement, Kharma finally dropped the bombshell live on Monday Night Raw: She’s pregnant.

In a rare moment, WWE allowed Kharma to bow out gracefully giving a very personal speech, as she said it had been her dream to wrestle in WWE, mentioning her initial rejection from WWE’s Jim Ross during Tough Enough 2 over 10 years ago, as well as discussing her body of work in Japan and on the independents.

Picture: Kharma auditions for Tough Enough 2

Following an interruption by the Bella Twins, Kharma let it be known that she’ll be back in one year and hopes the Bella Twins will be still be here, indicating she’s set her sights on them.

Overall, it was a very classy moment from WWE.

Congratulations Kharma!

Over on the SmackDown side of things, Natalya and the finally recently debuted, AJ, teamed up to face off against Alicia Fox and the face heel face heel for the evening, Rosa Mendes.

This past weekend’s house show results below:

Friday, May 27th

WWE Raw in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Beth Phoenix & Kelly Kelly def. The Bella Twins
“Beth got a huge pop when she made her entrance. The Bellas spent most of the match working over Beth including using “Twin Magic” to try to win but to no avail. Beth made the hot-tag to Kelly who scored the pinfall on one of The Bellas.” (Source)

Saturday, May 28th

WWE Raw in Sioux City, Iowa
Beth Phoenix & Kelly Kelly def. The Bella Twins
“The Bella Twins are technically supposed to be heels, but they actually received a pretty good reception. Phoenix entered next, followed by Kelly Kelly with her own entrance. Nice crowd pop for Kelly. Since Divas matches rarely get more than a few minutes on TV, it was nice to see a long-form match for once. The Bellas tagged in and out fairly frequently, especially early on. They also pulled the Switcheroo at least three times throughout the match. At one point, Kelly did the old Rikishi “stinkface” maneuver on one of the Bellas in the corner. Kelly hit a cross-body off the top rope for the win.” (Source)

WWE SmackDown in Madison, Wisconsin
Natalya & A.J. def. Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes
“Back-and-forth match with Natalya slapping the Sharpshooter on Alicia Fox for the victory.” (Source)

Sunday, May 29th

WWE Raw in Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Beth Phoenix & Kelly Kelly def. The Bella Twins (Source)

Thoughts: I’ll start with SmackDown first. I’m probably in the minority on this one, but anything that gets Rosa Mendes used, win or lose, gets my approval, so I’ll give them a thumbs up. Over on Raw, the match is one I expected to happen on TV as soon as the draft results came out, yet the live event crowd gets to see it first. No problems with this result, as the right diva won for the fans to leave happy. Beth being used also gets some added points, therefore thumbs up to both brands of WWE this week.

Fiery redhead Christy Hemme has always been an enthusiastic ball of energy (see this) so we were happy to learn that it’s not an act when we caught up with her a few weeks in Brooklyn, NY for the FWE show.

Lucha Libre USA Taping Spoilers from This Past Weekend

Lucha Libre USA continued filming for their second season this past Saturday night. The show’s return to MTV2 has yet to be announced.

Spoilers below:

Spoiler
(1) Nikki Coreleone (Roxxi) beat Chrissy Cialis (Kristin Astara). In a return to the bad habits of March’s show, this match started off with planted fan interference by a pair of irate female fans (it was unclear what exactly they were irate about). After a scuffle that lasted way longer than it needed to, Nikki and Chrissy had a fine match that lasted a few minutes. It ended with Nikki scoring the pin after a nifty move that transitioned a bearhug into a sort of seated spinebuster.

* Octagoncito and Mini Park continued to sell Rekon’s beating in the ring as Chrissy Cialis and Tigresa Caliente (formerly Rhaka Khan in TNA) ran to the ring to start a tag match with the minis. Again, the referee seemed to see nothing wrong with this and motioned to ring the bell.

(4) Chrissy Cialis & Tigresa Caliente beat Octagoncito & Mini Park in a minis/chicas tag team match. Chrissy and Tigresa dominated from the start, and finally finished off Park with a tag team double chokeslam. The match was questionable to say the least, and continued to drive home that there seems to be no plans to give the company’s mini and woman wrestlers any real storylines or feuds.

* Rebecca Reyes came to the ring and told a strange story about being drugged by Tigressa Caliente and forced to marry mini luchador Pequeño Halloween. This brought out Halloween in a wheelchair accompanied by Tigressa and Chrissy Cialis. The three women then turned on Halloween, claiming the whole thing was a set up so Reyes could divorce him and take half of his money. This brought out Chi Chi, who claimed that in reality Halloween had signed no such agreement, and in fact had put a restraining order on Reyes. Reyes was dragged off by security (Source)

Lucha Libre USA’s next taping will take place on June 18th, and is entitled ‘Masked Warfare’.
