SmackDown Redux (March 4th, 2011): One Loaded Boot Coming Right Up!

Welcome to yet another edition of the SmackDown Redux. As always it is written by yours truly and proudly sponsored by ClickWrestle dot com. Wait, this isn’t an audio show. It’s been a long week, what can I say? And honestly, speaking of long weeks, it’s a few long weeks since we last got a chance to see Beth Phoenix in action on SmackDown. This week, the Glamazon returned to the Blue Brand, teaming with her former Raw running budding, Rosa Mendes. They took on the team of former co-Diva Champions, Michelle McCool and Layla. How did the match go? Well lets take a look, shall we?

The team of Beth and Rosa make their way to the ring first. Brings back memories of Rosa being Beth’s sidekick doesn’t it? Beth is wearing her awful red Glamasuit (sorry David, but it’s an eyesore) and Rosa is wearing silver-gray and black. They pose for the fans once they’re in the ring and Lay-Cool’s theme music begins to play. Michelle and Layla, both in their eye sore outfits, do their usual shtick on the stage before they go to the ring. A video recapping Rosa’s shock win over Layla last week is shown and the dissension between Lay-Cool is teased despite the fact Michael Cole insisting everything is fine now. We switch back to the ring and Lay-Cool can’t seem to decide who will begin the match. Michelle finally takes the initiative and the bell rings. Beth and Michelle (hurt foot and all) lock up and the Glamazon is quick to get behind Michelle, lock her arms around her waist, and take her down to the mat. Beth hops up and grabs the injured foot much to Michelle’s horror. The ex-schoolteacher starts screaming and pleading, but Beth shows no mercy and slams her fist right into that boot. Michelle screams like she just got stabbed with a rusty butcher knife and while she’s withering around in pain, Beth tags in the Freakin’ Costa Rican, Rosa!

Ayako Hamada Returning to SHIMMER

3

Former TNA Knockout, Ayako Hamada will return to SHIMMER this month.

Hamada hasn’t been seen much in North America since leaving TNA last year. That changes this month with appearances for NCW Femmes Fatales next weekend followed by SHIMMER at the end of the month.

More details after the cut.

Possible New WWE Signing

33

A stunning model is claiming on her Model Mayhem page that she has signed a developmental deal with WWE.

26-year-old Brandi Alexis Reed updated her page recently, noting: “I am in a developmental contract with the WWE. All of my work must go through WWE Talent Execs for approval.”

According to her list of credentials, Reed has been featured as a model in print work for Budweiser and was also once in a KFC commercial.

Thoughts: Brandi certainly fits the mold WWE is looking for in its Divas. With Caylee Turner recently being let go, it would make sense for WWE to hire another African American female to bring diversity to their crop of developmental girls. I took a quick glance through her pictures and this girl is seriously gorgeous! Beautiful eyes.

Unwrapped: The Bellas Have a Photoshoot Inside a Photoshoot

6

Our Unwrapped feature is making its return! Every week, coinciding with WWE.com’s weekly photoshoot updates, we’ll take a look at the newest Diva photoshoot and give you the opportunity to voice your opinions on it. Let’s unwrap this week’s eye candy, featuring Brie & Nikki Bella. View the photoshoot by clicking here.

The Look: The Bellas are dressed identically, save for different jewelry and shoes. While usually I find that move a bit silly or gimmicky for grown women to do (think Hugh Heffner’s twin girlfriends), this outfit is so simple that it works–it’s not like they’re wearing matching lime green pants and pink tops. The black tube top and jeans are simple enough that the outfits look fine next to one another, and it’s interesting to the little differences, such as the way they style their jeans: one cuffed, the other not. If one Diva were to wear this outfit for a photoshoot, it might feel like it lacks something, but with the Bella magic (i.e., multiplying it by 2), it’s solid.

The Poses: The Bellas frequently do gimmicky photoshoots–I guess with all these tandem shoots, they feel they need to do something to mix things up. It’s cheesy, but it’s a Bella trademark, so they probably won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Here, they’ve got a camera and are snapping phantom pictures of each other, resulting in some silly poses. As in their third Bella Bowl shoot, when a prop gets tossed in, it will eventually lead to jostling and play-fighting, and we see that here, albeit to better results. Most are cute, such as the ones where they pose for each other and fight for the camera, and it’s interesting to see their attitude change a bit to fit their new heel personae–you can sense a new “bad girl” aura coming from the pictures. Altogether it’s a cheesy, harmless photoshoot; the Bellas seem to have become masters at that.

In Video: Clip of Jersey Shore’s Angelina Pivarnick on TNA Impact

TMZ has an exclusive preview clip from tonight’s episode of Impact which will feature former Jersey Shore star, Angelina Pivarnick.

In the clip, Pivarnick is seen (along with Cookie and Robbie E) confronting the Beautiful People for hanging out with her nemesis, JWoww when she appeared in TNA last year.

Pivarnick challenges JWoww to a match next week on Impact before being called a ‘skank’ by Velvet Sky. Things then disseminate into a catfight.

You can see the minute long clip here.

Mr. Glamazon’s Hitting the Ropes (Issue #24) – Third Time is a Charm

5

“Why now?”

Shantelle Taylor was asking me why now, of all times, I had finally decided to pursue my dream of being a ring announcer.  I thought about it for a minute and then told her, “Because now I have the opportunity.”  But I’m not completely sure that was the entire answer.  Truth is I still don’t know exactly “why now”.  I mean, why didn’t I try this years ago?  I’ve always wanted to get involved in professional wrestling…so what was holding me back?  Really, why now?

I guess one day I just woke up and realized “Hey, I’m 37, if not now…when?  I’m not getting any younger.  Am I going to let this dream just disappear forever?”

Rumored Matches for WrestleMania 27

The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter rumors a tentative line-up for WrestleMania 27.

Of course, nothing is guaranteed until it’s announced on TV or WWE.com, but here goes:

Lucha Libre USA Adds a Legend to Chicastars Roster

Former WCW, WWE and TNA personality and quite frankly, one of the toughest ladies to ever step into a ring, Jacqueline Moore is heading to Lucha Libre USA it seems.

The 47-year-old (yes 47!) is advertised in a poll on the LLUSA Facebook page asking which Chicastar fans are most looking forward to seeing on March 19th. As previously reported, the company will be holding a special night dedicated to its female roster that night.

Jacqueline’s impressive career spanned two decades and featured a couple of historic moments: Jackie was the first African-American woman to hold the WWE Women’s Championship. She was also the first woman to hold the Cruiserweight Championship under WWE rule and third in total (following Madusa and Daffney in WCW).

Since parting ways with TNA in 2009, Jackie has largely been out of the spotlight.

In Pictures: Stacy Keibler Goes Au Naturel for Stunning ‘Esquire’ Photoshoot

7

Former WWE Diva, Stacy Keibler took a bold step in her latest photoshoot. Per her Twitter: No hair styling, no make up, no artifical lighting and no airbrushing.

The shoot was for Esquire and a photography movement called Me in My Place. Me in My Place captures ordinary women in their homes just as they are. Picking up on the trend, Esquire has asked MIMP to photograph celebrity females for them — enter Stacy Keibler.

Check out the beautiful pictures here.

In Video: Reby Sky Gets into the Ring with Matt Hardy

21

Rising female star, Reby Sky has come a long way since we first touted her last year. One of the first sites to jump on the Reby bandwagon, we’ve watched Reby blossom on the independent scene where she’s known for her great promos. Now we’re eagerly anticipating her in-ring debut (hopefully soon!).

But to whet your appetites, Reby features in Matt Hardy’s latest YouTube video in which the Lucha Libre USA star gives us a taste of how her training is progressing.

Check it out below:

Christina Von Eerie Heading to SHIMMER

8

With less than a month left to go until the tapings, SHIMMER has announced that Christina Von Eerie will make her debut for the company.

Billed from California, Von Eerie is perhaps best known for her work for ChickFight and AAA in Mexico. Last year, Von Eerie competed in a tryout match in TNA, teaming with Shannon Moore against Robbie E and Cookie.

She joins Britani and Saraya Knight as debuting talent for the weekend.

More details and tickets here.

WSU iPPV Update: New Match Added, Kellie Skater to Debut

In lieu of Tina San Antonio, who is injured and unable to compete this Saturday, WSU has added a new match to its iPPV this weekend featuring ‘The Rate Tank’ Kellie Skater.

Skater will face Barbie who will make her WSU return after four years.

Details below:

Tina San Antonio, one half of the WSU Tag Team Champions was injured in a freak accident and fractured her ankle. Tina will not be able to compete on 3/5. Marti Belle will choose a tag team partner that night. The winner of the announced triple threat tag team title match will become the NEW WSU Tag Team Champions, guaranteeing that there will be one title change on this iPPV! For constant updates on this breaking situation, check out the WSU Facebook page and the WSU Twitter page. There are also videos from Marti & Tina talking about these recent events.

To make up for Tina San Antonio not being on the show as previously advertised due to her injury, WSU has added a bonus match. KELLIE SKATER, from Australia comes halfway around the world to make her WSU debut, taking on BARBIE, who returns to WSU after a 4 year absence. With one wrestler debuting and one wrestler making a long awaited return, this match should be ultra-competitive!

TNA’s Cookie Speaks on Jersey Shore Stars in TNA, Thoughts on Knockouts Division

8

TNA Knockout Cookie is featured in a lengthy interview on the Miami Herald website today. Plenty of topics are touched upon, one of which includes the debut of former Jersey Shore star Angelina Pivarnick tomorrow night on Impact.

Speaking on taping the episodes featuring Angelina, she says:

“I can’t wait for fans to see. Robbie, Angelina and I almost got booed out of the building. It was the most amazing feeling in the world. It was electric. We knew we had something to prove. We knew this was a big moment for us as a company to do the tapings on the road. It was a very long day.

“Especially with Angelina being there, but it was a wonderful experience. I couldn’t have asked for it to go better. I’m super excited for people to see these tapings. The fans brought it to a new level, and the performers brought it to a new level.”

Cookie also spoke on her feelings about the other Knockouts in the division, putting over Tara as the ‘mother hen’ of the division.

Raw Redux (February 28th, 2011): The Bella Mafia Dupe Gail, Take Out a Hit on Eve

After picking up a surprising win over the Divas Champion, Eve, one might think The Bella Twins were in line for a title shot, right? Wrong. On this week’s edition on Raw, The Bellas along with Maryse, Tamina, Alicia Fox, Gail Kim and Natalya take part in a Diva Battle Royal for #1 contendership. Can The Bellas strike gold again and net themselves a shot at the strap or will some other lucky Diva come out on top? Check out the match below:

We kick things off with the champion, Eve, on commentary expressing her thought on the battle royal and facing off with the winner. The official signals for the bell and it’s every woman for themselves. Right off the bat, Natalya grabs Brie Bella and tosses her out of ring, eliminating her. Alicia follows her soon after, also eliminated by Natalya. Meanwhile, Melina knocks Tamina out of the running with a stiff kick to the head.

Women’s Wrestling Season is Upon Us – A Guide to What’s Coming in the Next Two Months

March 1st is here and so kicks off what we have dubbed ‘Women’s Wrestling Season’. Rather coincidentally, the next couple of months will feature a slew of female wrestling promotions returning to action — or as the case may be, debuting. Throw in WrestleMania as well, and the two months ahead are looking rather busy!

It all kicks off this weekend when WSU presents it’s fourth anniversary show live on Internet pay per view. Then, throughout the month we will also see SHIMMER, NCW Femmes Fatales and the debut of Allison Danger’s Pro Wrestling SUN.

April will see a two night return for Europe’s Pro-Wrestling: EVE. And lest we forget ‘Mania?

The Bella Twin That Won the Raw Battle Royal is…

29

WWE.com is touting Brie Bella the winner of the Divas battle royal on Raw.

In its official Raw results, the site writes:

Brie Bella won a No. 1 Contender’s Diva Battle Royal
Do you believe in magic? If you’re Brie Bella, you have every reason to. The beautiful and cunning Diva emerged victorious against Natalya, Gail Kim, Tamina, Maryse, Alicia Fox, Melina and her sister Nikki. As Divas Champion Eve looked on, The Bella Twins hoodwinked the referee and performed Twin Magic to lock up the win for Brie.

Brie is now the #1 Contender for the Divas Championship.
