SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles Headed to Japan

3

Reigning SHIMMER Champion, Madison Eagles from Australia, will represent her home country as well as the promotion in Japan next week.

Details below courtesy of SHIMMER:

SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles will be headed to Japan later this week to make appearances on two joshi events.

NEO announced on Tuesday morning the specifics of Madison’s involvement in their event on November 28th at the Tokyo Cinema Club. The six woman tag team bout will feature Madison, representing Australia, teaming with Canada’s Cherry Bomb and Mexico’s Sexy Star, to battle the USA’s Hailey Hatred, as well as Yoshiko Tamura and Makoto from Japan.

S-Ovation and RingStars will be promoting an event titled “Joshi 4 Hope” on November 30th at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring in Tokyo, featuring SHIMMER talent Ayumi Kurihara, Misaki Ohata, Hiroyo Matsumoto, and Tomoka Nakagawa, as well as Madison. As a special attraction bout, the “Joshi 4 Hope” event will feature a match between the SHIMMER Champion, Madison, and the NEO Champion, Yoshiko Tamura! None of the titles will be at stake in this unique bout between titleholders of two of the top women’s companies from different parts of the globe.

We’d like to wish Madison the best of luck as she ventures to Japan, representing not only Australia, but the American wrestling scene as well, as SHIMMER Champion!

Daizee Haze Speaks on ROH’s Growing Women of Honor Division

61

SHIMMER and Ring of Honor star, Daizee Haze spoke to Alex Marvez recently about the growing Women of Honor division in ROH.

The company has been amping up the use of its female talent, particularly Haze and first ever SHIMMER Champ Sara Del Rey, with a 10-minute match this past Monday on HDNet and a pay per view match next month.

She says:

“When I started in Ring of Honor, it was rare to see any type of women’s match on the show,” Haze recently said in a telephone interview. “I’m really excited to see it get pumped up again. Sara’s been around a long time and we’ve had tons and tons of matches. I’m also excited to see what new talent is going to be brought in to work.”

On WWE’s Divas division, Daizee said:

“WWE has done a lot better job the past couple years putting women out to do matches, but the girls aren’t necessarily wrestlers,” said Haze, who made her pro debut in 2002. “They’re trained to do certain things wrestlers do. That doesn’t really impress me. WWE could take any of the very talented women on the independent circuit today and make them look gorgeous. Instead, they’d rather take bikini models.”

You can read the full interview here.

ROH Watch (November 22nd, 2010): Daizee Haze vs Sara Del Rey

The Women of Honor returned to ROH on HDNet this past Monday night in what was touted beforehand as possibly being the best women’s match on TV this year. Did it live up to that? Tune in below:

ROH Announces Women of Honor Match for ‘Final Battle’ iPPV, Amazing Kong Returns

6

Ring of Honor has announced a huge Women of Honor tag team match for its ‘Final Battle’ iPPV on December 18th.

Daizee Haze & the returning Amazing Kong will team up to take on Sara Del Rey and a partner of her choosing.

The match announcement stems from this past Monday’s episode of ROH on HDNet which saw the two face off. Afterwards, things got heated backstage…

Speaking on enlisting Kong, Daizee told ROHwrestling.com:

“I went to Kong, not only because she holds a recent victory over Sara Del Rey,” stated Haze, “but also because together we are the perfect balance of speed and strength, agility and power, and because, aside from myself, there is no one who knows Del Rey better than Kong! At Final Battle, Kong and I will bring the best of women’s wrestling to New York City and take the competition straight to Sara Del Rey and whoever she can find to tolerate her arrogant, pompous, better than everybody attitude.”

The iPPV can be ordered via GoFightLive.tv.

Two of America’s finest, Alissa Flash (Cheerleader Melissa) and Mercedes Martinez will compete in intergender matches for River City Wrestling on December 11th.

Flash, who is a former RCW World Champion, will compete in a triple threat match to win the vacant World Championship.

Details below:

iver City Wrestling — San Antonio’s brand of professional wrestling — will hold an event on Saturday, December 11 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Activity Center, 1630 Goliad Road in San Antonio, TX. The event will begin at 8 p.m. and the doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets will be sold at the door and are as follows: front row, all ages are $15; general admission, adults are $10; general admission, kids ages 4-18 years and adults with a military/student ID are $8; and children three years and younger are free. Advance tickets are online at rcw-wrestling.com, ticketmaster.com, or ticketweb.com. Advance tickets are cheaper than those sold at the door with group discounts also available.

In the main event, it will be a “Triple Threat Match” for the vacant RCW Championship as it will be Alissa Flash vs. Jax vs. Ray Rowe. The former champion, Alissa Flash, will have to overcome the odds as she wrestles two giants of the squared circle, Jax and Ray Rowe. Flash was champion until last month when she was forced to compete in a challenge arranged by Co-Commissioner Ray The Voice. Due to an attack from Rowe, Flash was unable to compete and lost by forfeit. Now she must play the role of the ultimate underdog! Jax and Rowe have been completely dominant since entering RCW, and it will be every man and woman for themselves in this Triple Threat Match!

WSU Announces April Hunter & Luna Vachon for 2011 Hall of Fame

5

WSU has officially announced the first two names to be inducted into its Hall of Fame, Class of 2011. April Hunter and the recently deceased Luna Vachon will be honored.

Read the press release below:

When WSU returns on 3/5/11 with our Four Year Anniversary show we will be inducting our third class into the WSU Hall of Fame. Already in the WSU Hall of Fame are Sherri Martel (2009), Missy Hyatt (2009), Malia Hosaka (2009), Dawn Marie (2010), Jazz (2010) and Molly Holly (2010).

WSU announced at our 11/6 event that Luna Vachon will be inducted into the WSU Hall of Fame on 3/5/11. Now, WSU is proud to announce that April Hunter will join Luna Vachon on 3/5/11 as a member of the 2011 WSU Hall of Fame Class.

April Hunter was a pioneer for womens wrestling in the northeast, winning virtually every womens championship & tournament there was to win from 2000-2007. Ironically, when April Hunter left the northeast area to pursue other opportunities, WSU was born. However, WSU recognizes Hunter’s hard work to make womens wrestling acceptable in the northeast area, allowing a company like WSU to take off.

It was the work of people like April Hunter that paved the way for a company like WSU, that is focused strictly on wrestling and exciting characters to take off. While April Hunter does not have a storied history with WSU, her accomplishments in the area that WSU promotes our events can not be ignored. It was the work of people like April Hunter that showed the wrestling community that womens wrestling in the northeast did not need to rely on sleaze and degrading women to be successful.

When people think of WSU, the names most commonly associated with the company are people like Mercedes Martinez, Angel Orsini, Alicia & others. However, it was the work of people like April Hunter before the creation of WSU that made fans give a serious womens wrestling company a chance.

Hunter will be live in person to accept this honor on 3/5/11.

More details to come after our 12/11 event, which you can find out full information on at WSUWrestling.com or Facebook.com/wsuwrestling.

It’s a case of so close yet so far for NXT Rookie Diva AJ.

Raw Redux (November 22nd, 2010): Lay-Cool Denied and the Weave Flies!

29

Last night’s edition of Monday Night Raw was a solid show overall, but was very good to the Divas in particular. Not only did we get a solid match, we had several entertaining segments, as well. First we got a segment featuring the new Divas Champion, Natalyaand the former champions Lay-Cool. Check out the segment below:

Pretty good stuff here in this segment. I found Lay-Cool’s diva act pretty funny and seeing them get shut down by security was also pretty funny. Hopefully, this is a sign that Lay-Cool won’t be such a strong presence in the Divas division for the time being. I like Lay-Cool as characters and competitors, but they have pretty much been running the division. It will be a nice change of pace to see some of the other Divas get into the title picture.

Natalya Discusses Her Divas Championship Victory

Diva fans are still beaming after Natalya became the Divas Champion at Survivor Series. No doubt, she is one of the most respected Divas today amongst fans and it was a big moment to see her finally have her dream come true. It seems the emotion is not lost on WWE.com either, as they have an interview with Nattie on her win.

“I felt like I couldn’t stand up, I was so overwhelmed with emotion,” the new Divas Champion told WWE.com. “I really just took in every bit of it.”

“I really get to share this with my family,” the only female graduate of the Hart Dungeon said. “My dad kept saying how proud he is of me. He also said he had originally told me not to get into this business because he didn’t want to see me get hurt,” Natalya revealed. “I proved him wrong,” she said with a grin.

“I think about my life and what’s important to me sometimes. Working for WWE and being a Diva has really been the only thing that’s made me feel great about myself,” the new Divas Champion said. “I get to share this with my WWE family, the WWE Universe and my family. It’s a great feeling.”

You can read the full article here.

Once again, congratulations to Nattie.

Survivor Series in Review: A Dream Becomes Reality for Nattie, Plus the Glamazon Strikes Back

Last night’s Survivor Series 2010 marked the third meeting between Co-Divas Champions, Lay-Cool and the third generation Diva, Natalya. Natalya has faced off against both members of Lay-Cool individually and came up short, but last night the odds were stacked even more against. This time she’d have to face both members in a 2-on-1 handicap match. Can the first lady of The Hart Dynasty take out the BFF champions to become the first ever third generation Divas Champion? Check out the match below:

Out first are the Co-Divas Champions and Michelle McCool is looking stunning in a copper variation of her usual ring gear. Layla… not so much. I don’t know what it is about Divas and mixing neon colors and weird prints, but it never looks good and this was no exception. I’m usually a big fan of Layla’s choices in ring gear, but this was a definite miss for her.

Trish Stratus Weighs in on Natalya and Beth at Survivor Series

20

From a current Hall of Famer to a future one, Trish Stratus has also commented on last night’s Divas action at Survivor Series via her Twitter page.

She wrote:

Big PPV last nite! Congrats to my girl @natbynature on becoming new Divas Champ–so proud! And welcome back @thebethphoenix…I see some good wrestling on the horizon ~T

Thoughts: Carrying on my thoughts from the JR post, if WWE does give us Beth vs Natalya at WrestleMania — Trish for special guest ref, anyone?

JR Comments on Natalya’s Title Win and Beth’s Return

23

WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross commented on last night’s Survivor Series on his official website and offered a few wise comments about the Divas. Read below:

Good to see Beth Phoenix back on TV and congrats to Nattie Neidhart for winning the Divas Title. I would love to see WWE be able to put more time into the Divas area of the promotion as we get tons of emails from folks who are fans of the female athletes. Nonetheless no one can wave a magic wand and recreate the magic that Trish and Lita, among many others, possessed back in the day.

Read his full blog here.

Thoughts: Last night’s great exchange between Natalya and Beth has whet many people’s appetites. While it unfortunately seems unlikely, most want to see Beth vs Natalya at ‘Mania next year and last night’s pay per view could have been seen the beginning of something. If WWE does wise up and do something with it, especially amp up the promos and personal animosity in the storyline, this could be one hell of a feud that could be help set the bar for the women’s division today. Nonetheless, it’s great to see Beth back and it’s even greater to see Nattie with the belt.

Survivor Series 2010: Natalya Wins Divas Championship, Beth Phoenix Returns

137

WWE has crowned its first ever third generation female champion in Natalya. The Hart Dynasty Diva finally overcome Lay-Cool in a two-on-one handicap match at Survivor Series when she made Michelle McCool tap to the Sharpshooter.

A flood of tears followed as Natalya finally realised her dream — to be champion.

The celebration however, was briefly cut short as Lay-Cool attacked Nattie post-match which prompted the return of the Glamazon, Beth Phoenix, returning to WWE after six months out due to an ACL tear.

After clearing house of Lay-Cool — exclaimed by a Glam Slam on Layla — Beth raised Natalya high on her shoulders as the new champion showed off her newly won championship. A real sight to be seen and a beautiful, tender moment as both Natalya and Beth were in tears.

Congratulations to Natalya and welcome back to Beth!
