SmackDown Redux (November 5th, 2010): The Vickie, Dolph, and Kaitlyn Show Rolls Into SD

It’s no secret that NXT rookie Diva, Kaitlyn, has a thing for Intercontinental Champion, Dolph Ziggler, and as we found this past week on NXT, those lustful feelings and that undeniable sexual attraction is more than mutual. Kaitlyn and Dolph paint a pretty picture; they’re both hot, passionate, young. They have all the makings of a professional wrestling supercouple. Too bad there’s one giant roadblock standing in their way.

Dun…dun…duuuuuuuuun!

Dolph has a girlfriend. She is Vickie Guerrero. And Vickie, who just so happens to be Kaitlyn’s mentor on NXT, was none to happy to witness Dolph’s giant betrayal on Tuesday night. To make matters worse, the official consultant of Friday Night SmackDown ended up with cake, all over her face!

Things take a nasty turn this week as this little triangle comes to a head on SmackDown. Like sands through the hourglass….

Tonight’s episode of SmackDown kicked off in dramatic fashion for our trio. Dolph, who last won a match in God knows when, took on former tag team competitor, JTG. Interesting tidbit for all of us JTG fans: JTG and his former tag team partner, Shad Gaspard, never won the tag team titles during their tenure together.

It’s fair to say that Dolph basically dominated the match. It could even be deemed a squash. Dolph hit his finisher, the aptly titled Zig Zag, but decided to yank JTG up mid-cover. Our savvy champion didn’t just want to settle for a routine pinfall tonight. He wrapped JTG up in the most devastating of sleeper holds and pretty much sent Brooklyn native to sleep. The referee called for the bell and Ziggler was awarded a much needed victory.

Impact Write-Up (November 4, 2010): Knockouts, Knockouts Everywhere

Heading into Sunday’s “Turning Point” pay-per-view, we had plenty of action featuring the Knockouts last night. Let’s get right into it, shall we?

The first match will feature Sarita taking on Velvet Sky, but before we get to that, we see both members of the Beautiful People in the back. Angelina and Velvet are primping in the mirror, chatting as Vel Vel gets ready for her match. Surprising me, she tells Angelina she wants to do this on her own without any back-up. Angel doesn’t take offense, sending her off with a hug and words of encouragement. Sky leaves…which signals the appearance of the mysterious Winter in the mirror. Angelina calls her a “creeper” (LOL!) and wants to know what she’s doing there. Winter tells her quietly she doesn’t have to worry, “I won’t leave you. You’ll never have to be alone again.” At which point, Love says she likes being alone and makes her escape. The camera pans back to the mirror – empty.

Musings: Creepy! Still loving it, still interested. I could listen to Kat speak for hours, her voice is so soft and pretty. Maybe it’s my partiality for accents, I’m not sure. I also liked the fact Velvet wanted to go it alone against Sarita. I take it as a sign she doesn’t want to rely overly much on Angelina’s assistance in her solo matches, which is a good point. Both women are strong characters on their own, they don’t need to have tag matches all the time.

For weeks now, we’ve been giggling away as our favorite billion dollar baby from Lithuania has dropped some classic one-liners. Now, WWE.com is getting in on the action with an epic(!!!) soundboard dedicated to Aksana.

WWE Superstars Redux (November 4, 2010): Is That Gail Kim? It is!

This week on Superstars, we finally get to see her doing something other than entertaining the guest hosts – it will be Gail Kim taking on Alicia Fox in a battle between two former champions. Can Alicia outfox Gail, or will she eat defeat? (I’ll leave the jokes up to David!) Let’s find out.

Out first is Alicia Fox in her brown and blue gear, looking sassy as ever. It’s now that I realize there’s a new commentator beside Lawler, who’s name is Scott. As I watch and listen to the match, I have to wonder where they got this man. He’s as wooden as…well, as a piece of wood. I mustn’t be too harsh, and honestly I tune out the commentary during the women’s matches anyways. Gail Kim’s music hits and tonight she’s in her light purple gear, which she looks stunning in. I must say the extensions look very good on her. She gets a good pop from the crowd as she makes her way into the ring.

The bell rings and the two lock up, jockeying for position. Gail winds up forcing her against the ropes. The referee breaks them up, Alicia shoving her face and smirking. Another lockup, Alicia getting Gail into a side headlock, then flips her over to the canvas. Gail reverses, wrapping her legs around Fox’s neck.

Diva Dirt reader, Hayley sent in the following results and pictures from last night’s SmackDown house show in Belfast, Ireland that saw Layla take on Natalya. Read her report below:

Before the intermission, Kelly Kelly was announced as the guest hostess and she came out to a rather big pop from the Belfast crowd. Tony Chimel then proceeded to bring out Hornswoggle and then gave them t-shirts that were on sale at the merchandise stores around the arena and had them hold them up and model them. Kelly and Hornswoggle then proceeded to throw some t-shirts and wristbands into the crowd before they left the ring.

After the intermission there was then a Divas match and I was like FINALLY!! I have heard reports on how usually during the Diva matches people get up to go to the restroom or concession stand but I honestly didn’t see many people leaving which put me in a great mood. I was right beside the entrance where they come out so I was listening really carefully, and then I heard, “You’re not enough for me!” and everyone started booing, I didn’t really want to boo so I smiled and sang along, while Layla came out. She was wearing her usual ring attire and she had brought out a big white exercise ball which she kicked down the ramp and shouted at people saying not to touch it, she then threw it into the ring and proceeded to pose on the turnbuckles while some type of chant went up.

JR Comments on Lita’s Cameo, Wants to See Trish & Lita vs Lay-Cool at WrestleMania

Hall of Famer, Jim Ross is starting a bandwagon that we’re only too happy to jump upon — anyone for Trish & Lita vs Lay-Cool at WrestleMania 27? *Hops aboard*

In his latest blog, JR writes:

Enjoyed seeing Lita make her cameo on Raw Monday night. She was one of the all time great Divas in WWE and I can still vividly remember her job interview in my WWE office many years ago. I assume she will not come back to WWE full time but, as a fan of her work, it would be nice to see her back for a short run. I think that the team of Trish & Lita vs. Lay Cool, for example, would be a really nice attraction type bout at WM27. Just an idea.

Thoughts: Both legendary Divas have expressed an interest in returning for a short run, Trish in her interview with us and Lita in an interview a couple of weeks ago. So if the stars could align and we could get both of those Divas back — can you just imagine? Lita and Trish are still close and working on a movie project together, so perhaps they could find a way to clear their schedules for each other — and the fans — sometime soon. I think the fans could really get behind this bout.

The Women of Wrestling Podcast returns with a double dip of distaff delights as we present extended interviews with both SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles, and recently well-travelled international star Sassy Stephie. First up is half-an-hour with the Sassy one, discussing her trip to England last month where she had the chance to wrestle European legend Sweet Saraya in an old-school British rounds match, her recent shoulder injury, and her recent trip to Montreal to wrestle for NCW Femmes Fatales. Hear how she and Roxxie Cotton ended up in entirely the wrong Canadian province and managed to cross the border three times trying to get into Canada, as well as thoughts on the show from the perspective of a wrestler on the card.

Then it’s onto 45 minutes with SHIMMER’s standard bearer, Australia’s wrestling matriarch, Madison Eagles. Madison also has to discuss a recent injury (as in, this happened last week), being a lifeguard on Bronte beach, dancing at the 2000 Olympic opening ceremony, her OVW tryouts in 2003, training with Georges St-Pierre (yes, really) and all about the PWA back home in Australia, including thoughts on Jessie McKay, and whether she has any good Kellie Skater stories. We had an absolute blast recording these interviews, so we hope that sense of fun comes across as you listen. Enjoy!

Last night on Diva Dirt LIVE, we were joined by not one, but two women’s wrestling veterans — Alicia and Angel Orsini from Women Superstars Uncensored in an extended two-hour show to discuss this Saturday’s WSU iPPV. The duo will meet at the show battling for the All Guts No Glory Championship, but before that, we caught up with each of them.

As a 14 year veteran of the wrestling industry, Angel Orsini has done it all and you’ll hear all about it in this interview. Angel speaks on having her first professional match against Joanie Laurer who would go onto become the infamous Chyna in WWF, working for the original ECW, her background in MMA before it got big, plus working with Amy ‘Lita‘ Dumas and training Nora Greenwald aka Molly Holly. Angel also discusses her current beef with WSU management and why she created the unsanctioned All Guts No Glory Championship, which she will defend against Alicia this Saturday. Angel has choice words for her opponent! Angel also announces plans to launch her own wrestling/MMA training school which will be solely open to women.

Last night on Diva Dirt LIVE, we were joined by not one, but two women’s wrestling veterans — Alicia and Angel Orsini from Women Superstars Uncensored in an extended two-hour show to discuss this Saturday’s WSU iPPV. The duo will meet at the show battling for the All Guts No Glory Championship, but before that, we caught up with each of them.

WSU’s first and only triple crown champion, Alicia, has been in the industry for 10 years but is only 23 years old. We speak to her about beginning her career at such a young age (13), juggling her wrestling career with her day job and school (she has an extremely impressive 3.8 GPA!) and we get her thoughts on being the original Jersey girl in wrestling (watch out Cookie!). The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there have been talks between former WWE Diva, Serena and TNA, which falls into line with what we reported a few weeks ago.

At that time, I was told that Serena was on the company’s radar and would be looked at by officials when her deal with WWE is up. It looks like talks have taken place since then.

For what it’s worth, when asked about the possibility of going to TNA on the Women of Wrestling Podcast last week, Serena was reluctant to talk about it or give anything away.

Thoughts: TNA has been making a lot of great decisions with the Knockouts division in the past few weeks, hiring Serena would be the icing on the cake.

NXT Redux (November 2nd, 2010): The Internet Wedding of the Century Ends With a Resounding Slap!

Previously on NXT….

The Halloween edition of NXT certainly left a positive taste in the mouths of viewers. Brie Bella and AJ put together a match that was perhaps one of the best Diva matches on television this year. Nikki Bella continued her descent into WWE heeldom much to the disgust of her twin. Maxine won a Halloween candy eating contest, while Kaitlyn took home top prize in the costume contest for her Vickie Guerrero impersonation. Was it mentioned that the sexual tension between Kaitlyn and her mentor’s boyfriend, Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler, reached an all-time high?? Oh, lets not forget the fact that Ted DiBiase and everyone’s favorite French-Canadian Diva, Maryse, invaded the show. They set out on a quest to get the Million Dollar Championship back from Goldust and Aksana. Aksana saved the day once again and looked amazing while doing so.

Tonight, the highly anticipated wedding between Lithuanian-born Aksana and the adorable Goldust will take place. Will Maryse and Ted show up? There’s an elimination too. Which rookie is going to be sent packing during the ninth week of competition? Lets take a look!

Striker is in the ring and he brings out the rookie girls. Kaitlyn, Maxine, Naomi, AJ, and Aksana make their way to the ring. All the girls look gorgeous tonight as they’re in street clothes which leads me to believe no one will be wrestling tonight. Striker explains to them that tonight is the elimination but adds that with three challenge wins Naomi is eligible for immunity. He also says that with the exception of Aksana, the other three girls can catch and tie Naomi. Since mathematics is not on Aksana’s side, Striker excuses her from tonight’s competitions so she can get ready for her wedding. Aksana waves, walks off, and we’re told that the first challenge tonight is a kissing contest. Striker wants a special guest judge so of course, Hornswoggle is brought out. Maxine is not happy about this but Horny, on the other hand, is overjoyed. Striker tells him that he gets to pick which Diva kisses the best.

WWE Courting Lita for Full Time Return

Although her appearance on Raw this past Monday was just a cameo, WWE has made a play to bring Lita (real name Amy Dumas) back on a more permanent basis in recent months.

PWInsider‘s Mike Johnson reports: “Dumas has NOT signed a new deal with WWE and she isn’t returning to the company, although they have made overtures to her in recent months about it.”

Dumas has been surfacing a lot lately, announcing plans to open a restaurant in Atlanta, star in a movie with Trish Stratus and film a television pilot for a stage show she’s in.

Thoughts: While I wouldn’t expect her to come back, I do find it interesting that WWE wants her back as the only other time that I can think of a former Diva returning to full time is Sable back in 2003 and that was a rare case. In a recent interview, Amy noted that she was interested in wrestling again ‘for fun’, so perhaps she could come back for a storyline. I don’t see her accepting a full time return like Chris Jericho did a few years ago, however. (EDIT: Oops, forgot Gail Kim also made a rare return to WWE.)

Maxine Eliminated from NXT

It looks like Maxine won’t be on top after all.

The Rookie Diva, whose Pro is former Divas Champion Alicia Fox, was cut tonight in the second elimination of NXT season three.

After being eliminated, Maxine said she wasn’t the ‘typical Diva or woman’, but she knows she’ll be back someday and will be where she belongs — on top. She gave her swansong by wishing the other Rookies well and thanked the fans for the experience.

Maxine was arguably the strongest talker of the six Rookies, cutting good promos on a near weekly basis. Her highlights include a season-long feud with Hornswoggle, as well as her match with AJ last week.

With Maxine and Jamie Keyes eliminated, we are down to four: AJ, Aksana, Kaitlyn and Naomi. The season is due to conclude in three weeks time.

* Aksana is excused from the challenges due to her wedding.

* Kissing contest. First judge: Hornswoggle. Maxine asks Hornswoggle to leave for Cody Rhodes. The contest is reset with Rhodes. AJ wins. Maxine makes Cody kiss her on hand. Naomi refuses to kiss him.

* Backstage, AJ tries to talk to Primo privately but Dusty Rhodes is there with the Bella Twins. Funny segment.

* Kelly Kelly def. Alicia Fox with the K2. Alicia took the finisher wrong.

* Backstage, Primo goes to another room with AJ but Maxine is making out with Hornswoggle. Her outfit is messed up as well. LMAO!

* Wedding flag scavenger hunt. Divas had to find a flag through wedding boxes. Kaitlyn wins.

* Kaitlyn got caught making out with Dolph by AJ/Primo. Vickie sees them attacks Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn throws wedding cake in Vickie’s face.

* Time for the Aksana/Goldust wedding. Ted DiBiase & Maryse appear. Ted paid off the minister and wants his belt back.

* Dusty Rhodes pays Ted DiBiase Senior to be the new minister.

* Goldust goes in for a kiss to Aksana but she slaps him and leaves. Goldust was shocked Aksana did that. We haven’t find out why she did that as of yet.

* Maxine is eliminated. She says she will be back soon. She seemed like it was inevitable.
