In Video: TNA Does ‘Family Feud’ (Episode 1)

15

All this week, the stars of TNA are taking over Family Feud. We’ll hopefully be posting all of the episodes when we can. Here’s the first of five episodes, which aired yesterday. Enjoy!

Part two after the cut:

Raw Redux (November 1st, 2010): Natalya’s Last Chance + Lita Returns to Raw

25

In an effort to get this Divas Championship feud rolling again after last week’s lull, WWE gave us another Michelle McCool vs Natalya match, but this time with a twist: If Natalya could beat Michelle McCool in singles action, she’d receive one last shot at the Divas Championship at Survivor Series. Can Natalya overcome the odds and get another crack at the title? Will Lay-Cool cheat their way to another victory? Find out… after this pointless Divas segment. Damas y Caballeros, I present to you: Diva Twister!!! (With a very special cameo):

I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t expect the majority of the Raw Divas to be lumped into a segment with Pee-wee, so I wasn’t really surprised. The jokes were cheesy and the acting bad, no surprise there either. Another typical Guest Host segment, all in all. If I feel bad for anyone, it’s everyone in the audience under 21, who had no idea who Pee-wee Herman was and The Bella Twins for having to share their “Guest Host Arm Candy” spot with Eve and Melina and any other Divas that don’t happen to have a match on Raw or Superstars that week.

Believe it or not, there was a silver lining in this black cloud of a segment. Four-time Women’s Champion made a rare appearance, accompanying her self-professed idol, Pee-wee Herman in this segment. As a huge fan of Lita, I almost blacked out when I saw her pop up on my screen. She could have eaten a live puppy on the air and I’d probably say it was the best moment of Raw this week. That said, even Lita’s appearance couldn’t save this bomb of a segment. Thumbs down for Diva Twister and two thumbs way up (I wish I had more thumbs) for Lita’s cameo.

Alissa Flash Joins AAA in Mexico

16

Kind of late on this, but former TNA Knockout Alissa Flash aka Cheerleader Melissa has begun working for AAA in Mexico.

Flash made her debut for the company last month joining the likes of Sexy Star and sisters Faby and Mari Apache.

Her latest match, which aired in Mexico this past Sunday, can be seen below:

Miss USA Winner to Appear on Raw

4

2010 Miss USA winner, Rima Fakih will be the special guest star on Monday Night Raw on November 29th.

WWE.com writes:

The 24-year-old University of Michigan graduate is an ambassador of the Pink Fund, a financial assistance organization dedicated to relieving breast cancer patients from short-term financial strain. As Miss Michigan USA 2010, Fakih was among the first official pageant ambassadors for women’s self-defense awareness, educating women on the importance of taking the necessary precautionary measures to protect themselves from unwanted situations.

As Miss USA, Fakih is a spokeswoman for breast and ovarian cancer education, research and legislation – a cause that is close to her heart.

The November 29th episode of Raw will be a three hour King of the Ring special.

Thoughts: Rima is stunning and it’s great to see another female guest host. My guess is we’ll see a Diva beauty pageant instead of a match given that they’ll be doing a one-night King of the Ring tournament with all the guys.

Natalya vs Lay-Cool at Survivor Series

51

The saga continues as Natalya will face either Michelle McCool or Layla for the third pay per view in a row at Survivor Series later this month.

Natalya won the right after defeating McCool earlier tonight on Raw.

Thoughts: These are the kinds of feuds that I miss, seeing Divas’ storylines develop over a series of pay per view matches rather than a different challenger to the belt every pay per view. I have a feeling that third time will certainly by lucky for Natalya!

Former Women’s Champion Lita Appears on Raw

51

Former WWE Women’s Champion, Lita made an unexpected cameo appearance on Raw tonight.

Lita, real name Amy Dumas, is a big fan of Pee Wee Herman as has been well documented, so that is likely why she was there.

Lita appeared in a backstage segment with Herman and some of the WWE Divas including Eve, Melina and The Bella Twins.

EDIT: Video of Lita’s appearance below:

WWE Superstars Spoilers: November 4th, 2010

Spoilers for Thursday’s Superstars below:

1. Gail Kim beat Alicia Fox. Gail controlled the match early until Alicia took control and hit a fisherman’s suplex into a pin, but Gail kicked out. Alicia choked Gail with her knees on her head while her neck was on the second rope. Gail started to come back and then Alicia hit a backbreaker on her knee and tried for the pin, but Gail kicked out again. Gail started with a flurry of kicks and then hit a suicide dive into the ropes followed by her Eat Defeat finisher for the win. (Source: ProWrestling.net)

Mr. Glamazon’s Hitting the Ropes (Issue #18) – These Wrestling Boots Are Made For Walking

12

I know Mickie James and Kat Waters didn’t actually have to pack their suitcases or rent U-Hauls.  They didn’t have to get new driver’s licenses or schedule service appointments with DirecTV.  But none the less each girl just went through a very big move.  Since leaving the WWE in the spring of 2010 both girls have signed deals with Total Nonstop Action wrestling, effectively packing up one stage of their respective careers and moving to totally new surroundings.

Fortunately Mickie and Kat are going to be just fine.  Both are working for a high-profile company that will showcase them on television and keep them in the spotlight.  The paychecks might not be as big, but money isn’t everything.  Each should feel somewhat fortunate because professional wrestling is brutally competitive, with many athletes vying for precious few spots on a roster.  At the end of the day wrestlers better love what they do because the odds of hitting the big time are daunting.  And if they do get a break, they have to work extremely hard to keep their spot.  Mickie and “Winter”, as Kat is now called, are two of the survivors.

I give each girl a tremendous amount of credit.  Admittedly I’m not a wrestling insider, but I am familiar with some of the stress and anxiety associated with this type of transition.  I’ve seen it first-hand.

One more after the cut:

Results & Pictures from WWE Fan Appreciation Day

16

Ever the subtle ones, WWE decided to hold an ‘appreciation day’ for its fans in the state of Connecticut just two days before Linda Mac’s big election.

The company has been treating the affair almost as if it were a pay per view, with much hype in the lead-up to it. However, while WWE ‘appreciated’ its fans, it once again showed an unappreciation for its Divas who were lumbered in a silly dance off skit — complete with a special guest appearance from Santino. (Hornswoggle wasn’t available, apparently.)

The contest was won by Melina, who defeated Alicia Fox, Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, Layla, Maryse and Natalya.

You can check out all the pictures here.

Trick or Treat! Going Halloween Costume Shopping: Divas Edition

10

For the past two years around Halloween, (view 2008 and part 1, part 2, and part 3 of 2009) we’ve suggested some tongue-in-cheek costumes for Divas and Knockouts. This year, we continue the tradition. We started with the NXT rookies, and followed with the Knockouts. Now, finally, it’s time for the Divas to get costumed. Enjoy, and be sure to vote for your favorite below!

Alicia Fox
Costume: Foxy Cleopatra to Santino’s Austin Powers.
Why?: Diva Dirt’s not one to pass up some wordplay, and Miss Foxy Alicia certainly lends herself to be called Foxy Cleopatra. She definitely rivals Beyonce for her fantastic figure, and her self-assuredness lends itself to playing the secret agent who’s constantly introducing herself as “a whole lotta woman!”. Seeing her dolled up 60s-style with a bright jumpsuit, prop gun, and afro while Santino goes appropriately over-the-top as Austin Powers would be a funny sight. Hey, if anyone’s got to be paired with Santino, it might as well be a Diva who can keep him in line.
Get the look: Get the outfit and the hairdo.

Beth Phoenix
Costume: A zombie.
Why?: She’s back from the dead injury! Beth is unstoppable, evidenced by her return, and is ready to take out anyone who stands in her way. Like an undead zombie, she rises from apparent defeat, hungry (in Beth’s case, for victory). What better way to scare the life out of her fellow Divas than to make her return as if from the grave, skin rotting, eyes lifeless, bloodthirsty attitude? It’s hard to think of a Diva more intimidating, but zombie Beth just might surpass the living one.
Get the look: Go in-depth with these tutorial videos.

Eve Torres, Gail Kim, & Kelly Kelly
Costume: Modern-day Charlie’s Angels
Why?: Taking a cue from the modern “Charlie’s Angels” movies, these babyface Divas would be matched up to their counterparts easily. Eve would be the spunky Dylan (as played by Drew Barrymore), Gail would be the serious Alex (as played by Lucy Liu), and Kelly would be the free-spirited Natalie (as played by Cameron Diaz). Striking the signature pose, these Divas would make for a convincing double of that trio, and the WWE could fill their Hornswoggle quota by pairing him with the angels as Bosley. Your standard 6-Diva tag team match would never be the same!
Get the look: Find two friends, assume the specific personalities, and prepare to kick ass, wire-fighting style. Be sure to wear clothes that best fit your angel (tomboyish for Dylan, dark and sleek for Alex, sexy and girly for Natalie).

Read on to see more costume suggestions.

We’ve already seen what the Divas got up to this Halloween, and now it’s time to check out the NXT Rookie Divas!

As you saw on Tuesday night, all the Rookies busted out their finest Halloween costumes — and even wrestled in them. Check out the NXT Halloween photoshoot here.

In Pictures: WWE Divas Do Halloween + Vote on Who Looked Best

24

You saw all the costumes on SmackDown earlier tonight, and now you can check out the photoshoot!

WWE.com has several pictures of the Divas who were in the costume contest/match tonight, as well as Vickie Guerrero. However, conspicuous by her absence, there are no pictures of Melina. Um… okay.

Check out all the pictures here. Vote below on your favourite (including Melina though not pictured above).

SmackDown Redux (October 29th, 2010): Lady Gagool, Layonce, Spider-Melina & Friends

It’s not Halloween without the Divas breaking out a costume — or eight, and that’s exactly what we saw this week on SmackDown. Some were uninspired (Batman & Robin? Yawn.) and some (Lady Gaga, Beyonce) tried to capture the pop culture of the day, even though WWE is about a year behind in what’s relevant.

Watch as what begins as a Halloween costume contest becomes a full-fledged eight Diva tag team match:

A rarity for the Divas, they each get their own entrance in order to show off their costumes. The Bellas are out first dressed as Batman and Robin. Out next is Alicia Fox dressed as Cleopatra; a valiant effort but not quite as breathtaking as Asha on last night’s episode of ‘Outsourced’. Kelly Kelly, rather predictably, goes for a ‘sexy’ Little Bo Peep costume. Rosa Mendes is a leprechaun? Doesn’t she realise Hornswoggle is in the ring and likes to sexually assault Divas? Former Divas Champ, Melina is Spiderwoman and then it’s the pièce de résistance: Lay-Cool as Lady Gaga and Beyonce. You’d think they’d go for the matching Telephone outfits, but nope — Layla is Beyonce in the two year old ‘Single Ladies’ video (which is what we suggested for Alicia Fox last year and sorry Lay, it would’ve suited her much better) and Michelle is Gaga in the equally old ‘Poker Face’ video. Still, A for the effort of trying to do something relatively current.

Onto the costume contest now, but before Teddy Long can begin his officiating, Michelle takes to the microphone and pretty much says Lay-Cool should win and save us from the laborious task of watching each of them shake their rumps and embarrass themselves. Melina takes exception and argues with Lay-Cool only to be hit with a zinger from McCool. “Why are you even dressed up? You’re scary enough as it is.” I giggled. Sorry Melina… Layla shoves Melina but before she can fight back, Hornswoggle intervenes and knocks poor Michelle on her butt in fright. Didn’t that little sex pest troll learn from last time not to mess with Michelle?

Knockouts Top Impact Ratings — Twice Over!

20

Last night’s huge brawl paid off big time as the two segments featuring the TNA Knockouts were the first and second highest rated quarter hours of the entire show, according to ratings data from ProWrestling.net.

The opening segment, which saw the arena-wide brawl amongst Mickie James, Tara and co., did a 1.18 rating. However, that rating was eclipsed later in the night when the six-Knockout tag team match scored a 1.29, the highest quarter hour of the show. It’s likely that the rating for the match was aided by the great tease earlier in the night with the brawl segment.

Thoughts: This was no doubt a huge night for the Knockouts with over 20 minutes of screen time. If TNA holds this momentum, going back to their winning ways creatively, I’m sure we’ll see another boom period of the Knockouts leading the Impact ratings on a weekly basis. Congratulations!

In Video: Melina’s Latest Video Blog

45

Former Divas Champion, Melina has posted her latest video blog entry on YouTube. Though she doesn’t address it head-on, it seems Melina is addressing recent rumors of heat on her that have been making the rounds lately, as well as discussing a lot of other topics.

Check it out below:

Impact Write-Up (October 28, 2010): It’s a Knockout Brawl For All

Tensions are building between Mickie James, Tara and Madison Rayne. With such a violatile mix, what can we expect on Impact tonight?

Apparently we’re kicking the show off with a fight backstage! It’s Tara and Mickie James going at it in catering (with no food…), beating each other with garbage, empty pans, a beverage keg and anything else they can get their hands on. There’s a few people looking on in the background, one of them actually appearing to be laughing. (Corpsing? Send for the man!) Maybe they should be getting acting lessons from Dixie Carter if they’re going to be on screen.

They wind up in the ring eventually, with Madison Rayne, Sarita, Velvet Sky and Angelina Love getting involved along the way. Flair comes out with security and separates them (not very well however) and stipulates that later we’ll see The Beautiful People and Mickie James vs. Madison, Tara and Sarita. He keeps calling Mickie “nutjob” along the way. Ric Flair has finally lost it.

Thoughts: Not a bad way to start the show, featuring most of the Knockouts division. It’s nice to see Sarita getting involved as she’s one of their best workers, as anyone who’s seen her work outside of TNA can attest to. If they can continue to keep this level of passion in this feud, it’ll put the Knockouts back on top as a big ratings draw for TNA. Me? I’m not going to put all my eggs in this basket just yet.

TNA Reaction Watch (October 28th, 2010): Mickie & Tara Explain Their Bad Blood

23

Last night’s episode of TNA Reaction saw a great segment focusing on the feud between Mickie James and Tara, as well as taking us behind the scenes of that huge Knockouts brawl that opened the show.

The storyline is that Tara felt that Mickie had her released from her WWE contract.

Watch below to see what they have to say about it:

Thoughts: Thoroughly enjoyed this. This segment really gave the back-story needed to make this storyline work and pretty much sold the Turning Point match to me. It’s great that TNA has this show to really tell their stories on as it gives the Knockouts’ feuds that much more meaning.

After the cut, Mickie James is ‘Impact Player of the Week’:

Mickie James vs Tara Announced for Turning Point Pay Per View

15

Two former WWE Women’s Champions collide on November 7th live on pay per view when Mickie James makes her PPV in-ring debut for TNA against Tara.

As seen tonight on Impact, the storyline is that Tara is angry at Mickie because she felt that Mickie had a hand in her release from WWE. Obviously not factually accurate as Tara left on her own terms in January 2009, but whatever drives the plot forward.

Thoughts: Thoroughly looking forward to this match. These two weren’t given the feud that they deserved together in WWE, so I’d like to see TNA do a longer program between the two, however it seems like this could just be a stop-gap between Mickie vs Rayne.
