Melina Comments on Raw Return

The returning A-List Diva, Melina wrote a lengthy blog on her comeback to Raw last Monday night. A brief excerpt below:

As I have said on Twitter, the night I came back I sat backstage listening to the people walk in as the doors opened for the show. I heard the arena come alive and I was so excited and nervous. I knew I was going to give the world everything I am…. and I thought about how I watched wrestling for so long as a fan at home; I thought about the first time I stepped into a wrestling ring…. how I worked Indy shows…. went to try outs for the WWE hoping to one day work for them. Then, the day I found out I got a contract; the first time I debuted in the WWE, had a match, won a title, competed in my first Wrestlemania….. all the moments that led me to now; all those moments that gave me butterflies. The night of my return I got the butterflies again. That moment was just as meaningful as all the others if not more.

It’s definitely good to have Melina back and I’m eager to see what happens next when Raw is once again live this coming Monday.

SmackDown Redux (August 6th, 2010): “Oopsie!”

Last week, Teddy Long ordered Lay-Cool to decide between them who would be Women’s Champion, citing there was only room for one title holder in the SmackDown women’s division. Well, this week, we found out whether it would be Layla or Michelle McCool that would hold the gold. Or did we? Tune in…

Lay-Cool enter Teddy’s office to find Rosa Mendes in her obligatory useless appearance of the week. Michelle shoos her away and we get down to business.

Michelle and Layla try to protest Teddy’s decision but ultimately, their efforts are futile. They argue over who should relinquish their belt and it’s Michelle who eventually does, telling Layla, “You owe me!”

Teddy then makes them decide which of them will wear the sole Women’s Title and another argument breaks out. “There’s no Lay-Cool without Cool,” argues Michelle. “I’m Lay!” fights back Layla.

Michelle shows who wears the pants in this duo saying, “I did all the work. I got you here!” Layla, rather funnily, retorts, “I know!”

Michelle tries to grab the title from Layla, who has a firm grip on it, and the pair end up breaking the belt in half. “OOPSIE!”

Figuring out a loophole to Teddy’s ultimatum, Layla exclaims: “See Teddy, there’s still just one Women’s Title!”

As always, Layla’s childish whining in this segment had me rolling. I find her charming to watch. ♥

Michelle asserting her dominance over Layla, telling her that she pretty much brought her to the dance, shows where things may be headed in a couple of months. It’ll be interesting to see if they play that up going forward.

In all, it looks like Lay-Cool’s co-Women’s Championship reign isn’t ready to end. It’ll be funny watching them walk around with half a belt, which is where this seems to be going.

WWE Superstars Redux (August 5, 2010): Don’t Underestimate the Skirt!

It came as a surprise to me to find out we had a Divas match on Superstars this week. I’m not complaining, however! Tonight we get one half of the Blondetourage, Tiffany taking on one half of Lay-Cool, Layla. Personally, I’m looking forward to see these two mix it up. Can Tiffany overcome the power of Lay-Cool? Watch below…

Out first is Tiffany, in a cute blue & yellow top and skirt. I have to say, the skirt is starting to grow on me. Next comes the self professed co-Women’s champions, Layla and Michelle McCool. Layla’s in her red gear, which I adore. Michelle’s sporting cut off shorts, a light blue ‘Flawless’ shirt and knee high boots. Normally I’m not a fan of ultra-short shorts but Michelle’s got the legs to pull them off.

The bell rings and the two go into a collar and elbow tieup. Layla slips behind Tiffany, clutching her by the waist. Tiffany applies her elbow to Layla’s wrist which causes the brunette to simply push Tiffany foward…and then she kneels down and fluffs up Tiffany’s skirt. Not gonna lie, I laughed. But this seems to get Tiffany riled up as she strikes with a knee to the gut, followed by some stiff forearms! She goes to whip Layla off the ropes but Layla reverses and Tiffany executes a nice looking sunset flip!

Impact Write-Up (August 5th, 2010): The Match That Launched A Thousand Retweets

Tonight the long anticipated return of Hamada to Impact took place and sadly for her, it was in very unspectacular fashion. She teamed up with Taylor Wilde to take on the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions, Velvet Sky and Lacey Von Erich, and the match ended up being one of the worst TNA matches of all time. Granted, it was no Jenna/Sharmell fiasco, but it was pretty damn bad. If you don’t wish to take my word for it, I understand. All the proof lies within the video so feel free to see the ugliness for yourself.

The tag match officially kicked off the wrestling portion of the show tonight, so while everyone sat around and digested the epic and highly personal promo stand-off between Raven and Tommy Dreamer, the Beautiful People began to make their way towards the ring. Velvet Sky and Lacey Von Erich were in rare form tonight, carrying their titles with confidence. Each girl looked great as well. Kudos to LVE for becoming the first ever Beautiful People member with actual ring gear! Velvet was dressed in one of her usual outfits, and it’s not worth describing to be honest. The show cut to commercial as the Beautiful People played to the crowd but upon it’s return, Hamada and Taylor Wilde made their way to the ring. Their entrance was cute, and a bit cheeky. Hamada twirled Taylor around and slapped her on the ass, a la the Beautiful People. Shame Taylor Wilde’s ring gear continues to make my stomach turn. The Beautiful People stood on the outside of the ring as Taylor and Hamada hyped up the crowd. Velvet screamed at them and made reference to the fact that her title wasn’t going anywhere. When the BPs returned to the apron, Lacey hopped into the ring to start the match off against Taylor. The referee held the championships up and the match began.

Taylor coaxed Lacey into turning around so that everyone could admire her new, sparkly outfit. Of course, Lacey fell for it and Taylor immediately rolled her up for a pin. Lacey scrambled out of the before the referee could even get down and count and Taylor flew to the ropes to gain some momentum. Velvet backed up Lacey by cheaply distracting Taylor, who promptly turned around to bitch. Lacey hit her from behind and went for a spinning heel kick but Taylor dropped down and swept her off her feet. Taylor once again went to the ropes, but Lacey was there to catch her. Unfortunately what could have been a gorgeous move was hampered by the fact Lacey struggled to throw Taylor over her head. Oh well. Eventually, Lacey did what she wanted to do, and Taylor rolled over to tag in the rarely seen Hamada.

WWE Superstar Says Lacey Von Erich Has No Talent

42

WWE Superstar, Goldust had some less than flattering critiques about TNA’s Lacey Von Erich last night on Twitter.

The Superstar posted several tweets during last night’s Knockouts Tag Team Championship match on Impact. Read below:

* Lacy [sic] has no talent whatsoever.
* She is horrible
* Great family but her no

Goldy went onto deny that he was watching the show. Hmm, sure…

Von Erich teamed with Velvet Sky last night, losing the Knockouts Tag Titles to Hamada and Taylor Wilde.

Results from SmackDown in Auckland, New Zealand Last Night

12

The SmackDown brand continued their Australiasian tour in Auckland, New Zealand last night. Reader Stephanie sent in this report:

Natalya accompanied David Hart Smith and Tyson Kidd to the ring for their match against Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes. She got the crowd involved in the match a lot and very nearly got involved in the match also.

Serena accompanied Joey Mercury and Luke Gallows to the ring for their match against Big Show.

Layla and Kelly Kelly had a match for the WWE Women’s Championship. Layla came out to the Lay-Cool entrance video but her “Nasty Girl” music was playing. The roof went off the arena when Kelly Kelly came out. At one point during the match, Kelly Kelly did a stinkface on Layla. For the record, Layla retained.

All in all, it was a great show.

Mickie James on Possibly Going to TNA

21

Former WWE Women’s Champ, Mickie James was interviewed by Fanhouse’s Brian Fritz earlier this week and spoke on the possibility of her going to TNA, admitting that she’d thought about it. Read below:

Well certainly I’ve entertained the thought and it’s one of those things … there has to be this beautiful marriage between the two. Obviously my music right now is in the forefront, and if there’s a way to be able to do it and still … you know, because TNA’s schedule is certainly less demanding, maybe what, 100 dates out of the year? Obviously it would give me a lot more time, but it would also give me that platform to be able to be there for my wrestling fans and hope that they would support me with my music.

Elsewhere, James is asked about her release for pursuing a music career versus Chris Jericho, who has a band while continuing to work for WWE. She says:

I think it’s a case-by-case feel. Obviously WWE knew everything I was doing, whether I was coming here to talk to publishing companies and look at different music and whatever, but Chris Jericho was already in a band before he came back to WWE. He already had “Fozzy” and they were already successful, and he was touring and releasing another album before he even came. So they come into the picture already knowing all that, fully aware of all that, and this was something I decided to do while I was still with the company. And perhaps it did feel that way, but in my mind as a businesswoman, that’s what I had my degree in, and just as a marketing genius [joking/laughing] … But it seemed like a no-brainer, like why wouldn’t you want to capitalize on this and really push it and tap into a whole other market you wouldn’t be able to get in touch with if it wasn’t for an outside interest like this. So I don’t really understand it, but Chris Jericho and I are totally different cases. Not only just because I’m a female and he’s a male, but he already had that coming into the picture.

The interview is very extensive and a great read. Click here to check it out.

In Video: WWE Diva Tiffany on ‘Lopez Tonight’

15

SmackDown Diva, Tiffany made a brief appearance on last night’s episode of Lopez Tonight on TBS along with several other WWE Superstars.

The bodacious blonde appeared in the ‘You Don’t Know Me’ segment. Watch below:

Nice to see Tiffany get an opportunity to do an appearance like this and represent her company, over the usual suspects like Kelly or Eve. She’s definitely easy on the eyes, but also impressive in the ring — she could be a total package in a couple of years.

Layla vs Tiffany on WWE Superstars Tonight

Michelle McCool Tops PWI Female 50 2010

77

SmackDown Diva, Michelle McCool has topped the third annual Pro Wrestling Illustrated Female 50.

The two-time Women’s Champion follows in the footsteps of Mickie James last year and Awesome Kong in the inaugural list in 2008.

Read the article below:

The critics have some negative opinions about Michelle McCool.

Some people believe her success in WWE is partially due to her relationship with The Undertaker (the two were married in June). She has gotten heat for “stealing” her Faith Breaker finisher from AJ Styles and the Team Lay-Cool concept and ring entrance from The Beautiful.

Those are just opinions, but here are a few facts.

FACT: In June 2009, McCool became the first woman in WWE history to have held both the Divas and Women’s championships, thanks to a win over Melina.

FACT: Over the past 12 months, McCool has scored pinfall victories over Melina, Gail Kim, and Mickie James—three of the most decorated women wrestlers of the past decade.

FACT: From July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010, McCool held (or co-held) the WWE Women’s championship for 325 of 365 days.

Here’s another fact: Michelle McCool—a woman who has been reviled by fans and derided by peers—is the best woman wrestler in the game today. Like it or not.

For the past two years, McCool has established herself as the top Diva on the Smackdown roster. She may be arrogant and condescending, but she has every right to be. No other female can match her overall success over the past year. She even found a way to “co-hold” the women’s title after Layla El pulled off an upset pinfall over Beth Phoenix.

Read the rest by clicking here.

Looking back on her year between last year’s Female 50 to now, it’s hard to argue against Michelle ranking at #1. Congrats to her.

Alundra Blayze Speaks on Her Infamous Defection to WCW & Trashing Women’s Title

19

Former WWE Women’s Champion, Alundra Blayze (Madusa), who famously defected to WCW and dropped the Women’s Title in a trash can, is profiled in the latest ‘Where Are They Now?’ at WWE.com.

Of that situation, she says:

The longest running question to this day is why in the hell did you throw the title in the trash can?” Miceli said. “Well, I was under contract and [former WCW President] Eric Bischoff told me to do it. It was either that or I was out the door.'”

Caught in the middle of the brewing ratings battle between WWE and WCW, Miceli, who had just left WWE on good terms, went through with the stunt and found herself the target of serious backlash. An injustice, Miceli believed, that only fell on her because of her gender.

“If I was a guy I would’ve been on the cover of every magazine,” Miceli said. “Because I was a woman, I was called a disgrace to the business. That’s the truth.”

Given their track record with ChickFight and ClickWrestle and their proven commitment to female wrestling, I know we’re in safe hands,” said Melanie. “I started Diva Dirt two and a half years ago as a hobby, it’s an incredible accomplishment to have come this far and I thank everyone at Black Pants for the opportunity.”

Jason Deadrich, founder of Black Pants and executive board member with the Cauliflower Alley Club, said: “When we first started working with Melanie and the Diva Dirt team last year, I quickly realized that Diva Dirt was not the same as  other female wrestling websites on the Internet. As previously announced, Diva Dirt is due to undergo an extensive renovation with a new look website to launch in the fall.

In Audio: Allison Danger & Kellie Skater Interview on DCW Variety Hour

6

If you listened to last week’s episode of the Untitled Allison Danger Show, you probably noticed that Danger her special guest for the week, ‘The Rate Tank’ Kellie Skater mentioned an interview they had done together prior to the show. Well, that interview was for Australian podcast, the DCW Variety Hour.

Paul Jones writes: “We are joined by ‘The Rate Tank’ Kellie Skater & Allison Danger of Shimmer Women Athletes to discuss the world of women’s wrestling as well as the current series of Dr Who, the American fascination with peanut butter and the Australian love of Vegemite, the finer points of international snackfood, how the Untitled Allison Danger Show came about, what lead to the Australian invasion of Shimmer, Why Bryce Remsburg has the greatest drivers licence photo ever, who will be the next wave of Australian women wrestlers to make the jump to the US? Why alligators are cute, Tank’s Roo Roids habit and how she became The Rate Tank in the first place, Adam Ant vs Ke$ha, Madison Eagles ribs Tank, Veruca Salt, Nudity in wrestling, How parenthood changes things, Skater’s goals for her future in wrestling, Danger almost getting stabbed in Ireland, Educating Danger on the proper use of Australian Slang, Jessie McKay gets punchy, The legendary Shimmer after parties, Why Skater is the worst dancer ever, getting chlamydia from violating koalas, the truth about drop bears, various rants about the booking of women’s wrestling in TNA and WWE as well as stories of people licking Dave Prazak.”

NXT Lay-Kav-Ool Watch (August 3rd, 2010): Wasting Away In Margaritaville

Last night’s episode of NXT was a hot mess, and I’m still trying to figure out if that’s a good or bad thing in this case. I knew something interesting was going to happen when the Mediacom digital menu said “the first ever kissing contest is held.” What I didn’t expect was the sheer hotness that was Layla/Kaval, the pure joy of seeing Michael McGillicutty and Percy Watson lose, and the weird, overwhelming urge to make out with Alex Riley take over me. I experienced many emotions last night, as did a lot of you who are going to read this. With a lack of anything else to say in this introduction (because words can’t truly describe how epic NXT was… ) I say we get right on down to business!

NXT kicked off with the introduction of the pros and then the rookies. The rookies all went to the ring where Matt Striker basically addressed the situation from last week and told the rookies that tonight they all had to get on the same page. He told them that their challenge for tonight is a kissing contest and while they looked confused/stunned/shocked, he introduced the sexiest women on television, the self-proclaimed co-Women’s Champions, Laycool! Michelle McCool and Layla slowly stood up and looked at each other, before making their way to the ring. Each woman had her own tube of lipgloss and they both took the time to generously apply a new amount using Michelle’s belt for a mirror. Eventually, Laycool end up in the ring and Striker happily tells them that the show is all theirs.
