As reported last night, Hall of Famer Mae Young made a somewhat historic appearance on Raw last night under the ‘Old School’ theme, competing in a match at 87-years-old. WWE’s Twitter page touted that, with her match last night, Mae was the only person in history to compete in nine different decades (1930s-2010). According to … Read more
While most Diva fans were expecting the likes of Lita, Trish and Sable to be in attendance for WWE’s ‘Old School’ Raw, WWE truly lived up to the old school aspect of the show and treated us to an impromptu match between the legendary Mae Young and Co-Divas Champions, Lay-Cool. Check out the match and the delightfully un-PG promo that came beforehand:
We start off with “Mean” Gene Okerlund introducing Mae Young. Young comes through the curtain, being propped up accompanied by The Bella Twins to a lukewarm reception from the Hershey, PA crowd. Okerlund goes on to call Mae Young the “Original Diva” (Somewhere, Sunny just leapt off of a bridge) and a picture of Mae Young in her heyday comes up on the TitanTron. Say what you will about me, but Mae Young was freaking hot! Anyhoo, Okerlund give the mic over to Mae, and she says she has been wrestling since she was 17 and plans on wrestling until she’s 100 before Mean Gene takes the mic back.
Four Knockouts have been announced thus far for TNA’s UK tour next January. Topping the bill for the ‘Maximum Impact’ tour will be multi-time WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie James, who along with Tara, make their return to the UK for the first time as TNA superstars. They previously toured Europe with WWE. Knockouts Champion, Madison … Read more
WWE Hall of Famer, Mae Young competed in a match tonight on Raw at the ripe old age of 87, claiming a victory over Lay-Cool with the help of the WWE Divas. According to WWE’s Twitter, that makes Mae the first ever wrestler to compete in nine different decades: “That match makes Mae Young the … Read more

MERCEDES MARTINEZ RETAINS WSU WORLD TITLE FOR 34th TIME
This past Saturday, on 11/13, the WSU World Champion once again defended her WSU World Championship, but this time under interesting circumstances. ACE Diamond Division Champion Eddie Kingston teamed up with WSU World Champion Mercedes Martinez to take on the unlikely duo of Rob Vegas & Alicia. If Vegas & Alicia won, they would become champions.
Alicia teamed up with Vegas for one reason – to get a shot at the championship that she built up from day one. The former 2-time champion was there for the gold.
The match itself was a very heated contest between champions and challengers. Vegas, the glory hound, cost his team the match when Alicia had Mercedes Martinez laid out with a michinoku driver. Vegas wanted to win the match for his team and tagged himself in. What he wasn’t expecting was to walk right into a killer backfist, courtesy of “The King of Diamonds” Eddie Kingston. After eating the shot heard around Union City, Mercedes Martinez was able to pin Vegas to ensure that her championship reign would go on.
After the match, Vegas blamed Alicia for the loss. Vegas actually went as far as to attack Alicia. In a sign of sportsmanship, Kingston & Martinez chased Vegas off. Martinez & Alicia shook hands after the match. After seeing these two compete against each other again, one can only hope that Martinez/Alicia II happens sometime down the road.
Tomorrow night, Raw goes retro, celebrating its past by bringing back some of the ‘old school’ stars from various eras. Right now, we know that Mae Young is set for this special three-hour Raw and while its unlikely that any other women will be brought back, we thought we’d still have some fun in suggesting a few women we’d love to see back!
And just to make things even more interesting, we’re going to avoid the ‘go to’ answers i.e. Trish and Lita. Read our five Divas we’d love to see on this special episode below…
CHYNA
They say ‘never say never’ when it comes to wrestling, however it’s been nearly a decade since Chyna left the WWE and she has not looked back since. Leaving on rather murky terms, it seems a comeback for Chyna — while it would be great to see — is rather unlikely. Still, way back in 1998-99, Chyna could make even non-wrestling fans stop the channel on Monday Night Raw during a channel-surfing spree. Her incredible physique and penchant for stepping toe-to-toe with the big, burly male wrestlers made her unlike any woman we’d seen in the WWE before.
An original member of perhaps the most popular stable in WWE history, DX, Chyna was an icon in her own right — hence why she was referred to as the ‘9th Wonder of the World’. Chyna broke barriers as a woman: competing in the Royal Rumble and King of the Ring tournaments. Eventually, she’d go onto become a multi-time Intercontinental Champion, embarking in classic feuds with Jeff Jarrett and Chris Jericho.
To see her music hit one more time on Raw would perhaps be the female equivalent to when Bret Hart returned on January 4th this year. And for that, she takes our number one spot (even though this isn’t a countdown).

With Survivor Series just on the horizon, and a 2-on-1 Handicap Match for the Diva’s Championship looming, the Lay-Cool/Natalya saga once again continues on Smackdown. Layla rides solo this week as she takes on Natalya in a rematch of sorts from Bragging Rights. Can the two Divas recapture the magic they created at last month’s pay-per-view? Lets take a look…
A smiling Natalya makes her way to the ring first and she gets quite the warm reception. She looks gorgeous, like usual, and once she climbs into the ring and gets set, Lay-Cool’s theme song begins to play. Layla is riding solo tonight and she walks out in her all black attire. Despite the fact she’s British, her welcome is less than friendly. She doesn’t seem to mind, to be honest. Michael Cole explains Michelle’s absence by letting us know that Michelle is basically disgusted by all things British, among some other comments.
The WWE Divas have received their video package for WWE’s ‘Stand Up for WWE’ campaign. The video features the Bella Twins, Michelle McCool, Layla, Maryse, Vickie Guerero and Alicia Fox. Watch below:
WWE Hall of Famer, The Fabulous Moolah is the only female star to rank on WWE’s Top 50 Superstars of All Time DVD (sorry Trish), coming in at #27. By that ranking, WWE considers Moolah a greater star than the likes of Randy Orton (#29), Mick Foley (#33) and Batista (#49). Shawn Michaels took the … Read more
Coming off the heels of one hell of a brawl at TNA Turning Point, one would assume that the powers that be would continue to build the feud between Mickie James and Tara, leading up to another action-packed match. Right? Right? Think again, this is TNA we’re talking about. It should be TMNS – Totally Makes No Sense. Last night, we received no follow up, no segments, no interaction between the two. What we did get is a mixed tag match that follows up on the feud between Jay Lethal and Robbie E. Jay has recuited one half of the TNA Knockout Tag Champions, Taylor Wilde to be his partner against Robbie E and Cookie. Can the Jersey kids keep the party going or will it be canceled?
Prior to the match, we see Robbie E and Cookie walking towards the stage. Cookie is trying to talk to Robbie about said match, but he’s too busy admiring the X-Division Championship belt. As they near the camera, Cookie has a message for Taylor. “I may not be a wrestler, but I’m from Jersey – I know how to fight!” (Must be a Jersey thing…) She tells Robbie she’s going to make him proud of her tonight.
Back from commercial, out first is Jay Lethal and Taylor Wilde, her tag belt around her waist. (Wasn’t there some kind of rule that said you had to defend your belt before 30 days were up or you were stripped? Oh wait, that would require continuity…) Whoever does the women’s makeup in TNA ought to be fired. Taylor’s sporting a blue top and skirt instead of silver, which looks lovely on her, but the makeup is horrid. It’s unnecessary how they cake it on. Her hair looks cute though, flipped up on the edges.
Next out is Robbie E and Cookie, but looks like Cookie’s having second thoughts. She’s screaming at Robbie, who’s paying her no attention, too absorbed in the belt he’s carrying. She’s sporting an outfit that looks more suited to clubbing, not wrestling, huge boots with fishnets and those huge hoop earrings are a hazard in this environment. Robbie gets into the ring, celebrating with the belt, but Cookie remains on the outside, waving at Robbie, refusing to get in the ring. Only when the referee starts counting her out and Rob yells at her to get in the ring, does she scurry between the ropes, still pouting. Fade to commercial.
WWE Hall of Famer, Mae Young will appear on Monday’s three hour retro episode of Raw, reports the Wrestling Observer. Mae, who is now 87-years-old, last appeared at WrestleMania 26 in a backstage skit with Santino, Jillian and Melina.
More details are emerging for Layla‘s downloadable character for SmackDown vs Raw 2011. The latest leak is an entrance video which has Layla coming out to full Lay-Cool titantron, music and doing the synchronised entrance. That’s all good — except one problem. Michelle McCool in the game is not Lay-Cool-ified at all. I guess we’ll … Read more
