Michelle McCool Credits The Fans For Her Royal Rumble Appearance

Michelle McCool ended up being the one legend in this year’s Royal Rumble match. A match that did have a few other surprises including the WWE returns of Chelsea Green and Nia Jax. Natalya, Shotzi, Asuka, and Piper Niven also returned from their absences as well.

Prior to the Royal Rumble event, McCool commented on her social media that she did not receive a call this year despite the show being in her home state. She took to her social media today to thank the WWE Universe for her appearance. She states that because of the comments from the fans within the last two weeks she did get the call. It was nine days prior to the Rumble which was indeed after she said she did not receive a call.

McCool’s entrance was unique as she was in the front row watching the show with her family. She would enter the Rumble from there and would immediately start the fight with Tamina at ringside. She lasted nearly 14 minutes and eliminated Tamina and also helped with the Nia Jax elimination. McCool was eliminated by Rhea Ripley.

The former four-time champion has appeared in two prior Rumbles. The inaugural one was in 2018 and the other in 2022. She has had eight eliminations between all three appearances.

Bayley Comments On Steel Cage Match Being Cut From Raw

Many women’s wrestling fans were not happy by the middle of the Raw XXX episode which took place on Jan. 23. If it wasn’t for the lack of women’s legends to celebrate 30 years of Raw, it was the advertised match between Bayley and Becky Lynch inside of a steel cage did not happen. What ended up taking place was Damage CTRL attacking Lynch inside the cage before making their escape.

According to a report from Fightful Select after this occurrence, it was reported that the opening segment of the Trial of Sami Zayn with the Bloodline ran too long which caused other parts of the show (primarily the women’s steel cage match) to be trimmed.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani over Royal Rumble weekend for BT Sports, Bayley spoke about how she felt about the situation. The clip above was originally posted on the WWE on BT Sports Twitter account but has since been deleted.

“I felt good. I honestly think it put our story in a whole different place. I think it did a lot for Damage CTRL. So I’m super happy with it.”

She continues to say that she is not bummed about the match being cut and was asked if she saw the support of the fans online.

“I did, which is cool. They have our backs and stuff, but I don’t want them to think that women’s wrestling is moving backward or that we’re not seen in the same light as Roman Reigns or anybody like that. We are very appreciated backstage, we’re treated super well, and we are a part of big conversations when it comes to big stories, big matches, big premium live events. We’re in conversations with that. I don’t want the fans to get the wrong idea with what happened. It was just what happened, happened. We’re going to make the best of it and they’re going to see how it made everything so much bigger and better.”

In conjunction with what took place at Raw XXX, the Bella Twins who were originally advertised but could not attend spoke about the lack of women’s representation. You can read about Nikki Bella’s comments here and also watch what they had to say on Tamron Hall below.

Toxic Attraction Stays United; Tiffany Stratton Victorious In Return Match

If you missed the Jan. 24 episode of NXT, then you missed a show filled with the women’s division. There were a total of four women’s matches along with various segments. The show closed out with the Championship Summit which had the NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez go face-to-face-to-face with Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin of Toxic Attraction. Her opponents for Vengeance Day on Feb. 4. But more on that later.

First, let’s go over the results of the matches –

Tiffany Stratton def. Indi Hartwell

Elektra Lopez def. Wendy Choo

Fallon Henley & Kiana James def. Ivy Nile & Tatum Paxley

Katana Chance & Kayden Carter (c) def. Alba Fyre & Sol Ruca – NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles

To open this week’s show, Tiffany Stratton returns to the ring for the first time since August. Her return ruffled the feathers of Indi Hartwell when Stratton seemed smug about how she referred to the women’s locker room. The match would result in the favor of the returning Stratton as she delivered a moonsault from the top rope to pin Hartwell for the victory.

Next up, we have Elektra Lopez taking on Wendy Choo. This match was more so for the story of Lopez who has been talking to Valentina Feroz as of late. Feroz has had a string of bad luck over the past number of months. Her tag team partner Yulisa Leon was sidelined with an injury, and she lost her mentor of sorts in Sanga. Lopez told Feroz last week to watch her match this week to see how to be victorious.

Lopez is known for her cheating ways to win matches and this time would be no different. After Choo got a near fall from a cross body, Lopez pulled brass knuckles out of her gear to utilize. She delivered a right hand which knocked out Choo for the three count. Post-match, Feroz looked on, and even though she doesn’t agree with Lopez’s tactics maybe she is reconsidering.

For the last two matches, you can read the results in the NXT Women’s Tag Team Title Match Set For Vengeance Day article.

Now onto the other moments for the women –

Nikkita Lyons was attacked in the parking lot. There were several people around when she was attacked and it would be Hartwell and Lyra Valkyria who came and tried to help her. This was announced as Cora Jade was being interviewed in the locker room. Jade was upset that her interview was cut short just as she was explaining that Valkyria left her a black feather in her locker.

Stevie Turner was interviewed (sort of) by Mckenzie Mitchell. Turner stated that her debut will be next week and that she would eventually like to face Roxanne Perez. She has a feeling Perez won’t be champion past Vengeance Day.

Thea Hail had an award ceremony with the rest of Chase U.

Lastly, we had the Championship Summit which took place in the main event. Roxanne Perez will be defending her NXT Women’s Title for the first time at Vengeance Day in a Triple Threat against both members of Toxic Attraction. Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne won this opportunity by simultaneously eliminating each other at the end of a 20-woman battle royal.

Throughout the night, both Dolin and Jayne had separate interviews. Basically talking about their growing dislike for one another ever since they were named number one contenders. They took this to the summit and they didn’t hold back. They would trade insults with Perez eventually saying she loves to see both of them go at each other. The champ was afraid of a handicap situation at Vengeance Day but now thinks it may be a real Triple Threat.

Dolin and Jayne end up getting up from their seats and in each other’s faces until they then put on a smile. It was an act all along and Toxic Attraction is still standing together. They would target Perez and put her through the table. The show ended with a shot of Dolin and Jayne holding up the championship together.

NXT – Feb. 1

  • Cora Jade vs. Lyra Valkyria
  • Stevie Turner Debuts

Vengeance Day – Feb. 4

  • Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Gigi Dolin vs. Jacy Jayne – NXT Women’s Title
  • Kayden Carter & Katana Chance (c) vs. Fallon Henley & Kiana James – NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles
