Tamina Voted WWE’s Diva to Watch in 2011

31

Raw Diva, Tamina has been voted one of the 11 Superstars to watch in 2011 at WWE.com.

Tamina, who is the daughter of Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka, is the only Diva on the list, ranking at #9.

WWE.com writes: “Tamina may be smitten with Santino Marella, but her true passion lies in the ring, where she will no doubt aim to dominate the Divas division this year.”

You can check it out here.

Thoughts: Nice vote of confidence for Tamina. I believe Alicia Fox was given a similar nod last year and she became Divas Champ. Perhaps Tamina will find her feet in the division this year.

Jim Ross Weighs in on Awesome Kong Signing, Doesn’t Want to See Her Wrestle Men

46

WWE Hall of Famer, Jim Ross commented on the signing of Awesome Kong in his latest blog. The former Raw commentator treats the signing as a rumor, however comments that if true, he would not like to see Kong wrestle men.

He says:

I don’t know if WWE has signed female star Awesome Kong or not but if they have then I think it is a smart hire. After meeting her at the Cauliflower Alley Club (CAC) function a year or so ago in Las Vegas, I wrote that I thought she would be a nice fit in WWE because Kong is so unique. If she does sign, I’d bet a case of BBQ sauce that her name changes.

If the Kong rumor is true, and this is just my two cents, I hope that Kong NEVER wrestles a man in WWE.

You can read more here.

Discuss: Do you want to see Kong in the men’s division? If so, why? If not, why not?

Taryn Terrell Pulled from ChickFight Match on February 5th

16

ChickFight, Diva Dirt and Pro Wrestling Revolution are extremely disappointed to announce that former WWE Diva, Taryn Terrell aka Tiffany will no longer be part of our February 5th show in San Francisco.

Our apologies to fans who were eager to see Taryn on the card, on which she was due to face Alissa Flash, and hope that this won’t affect your experience.

We were very excited to be working with Taryn in her first independent match, however after confirming and promoting her for the show, Ms Terrell made requests that should have been brought up prior to the booking being accepted & promotion of the match taking place. While these requests were simply not feasible for the independent wrestling scene, we’d like to stress that ChickFight and Pro Wrestling Revolution did attempt to cater to Ms Terrell’s requests, despite already having an agreement with her. We’re saddened that things didn’t work out to either sides’ satisfaction.

With the event due to take place in just over a month, we hope fans will understand our need for swift action in order to present to you the best show possible.

Once again, our apologies to all of the fans who were hoping to see Taryn in action. We hope that we can one day work with Taryn again.

However, as they say: the show must go on. We are hard at work in booking a replacement to face Alissa Flash. We hope to make an announcement as soon as possible.

More Details on Awesome Kong Signing with WWE

37

Former TNA Knockout, Awesome Kong was asked to resolve her legal issues in Florida by WWE officials before heading to the company, reports ProWrestling.net.

Kong, real name Kia Stevens, was arrested on December 22nd for driving with a suspended license. The former Knockouts Champion no longer lives in Florida but handed herself in to police at Hillsborough County, FL in order to clear the situation up and begin her new career.

The article also notes that Kong is likely to bypass the developmental system, but could spend a little bit of time there to work off ring rust.

You can read the full report here.

Thoughts: Once again congratulations to Kong. Can’t wait to see her in WWE.

Former WWE Diva Says Some Divas Today ‘Aren’t So Talented’ in the Ring

96

Former WWE Diva, Sunny, who is famously not a fan of women’s wrestling, revealed in a new interview that she believes some of today’s Divas should not be in the ring and “aren’t so talented.”

Speaking to Newsday.com, she said:

Alfonso Castillo: You’re often referred to as WWE’s first Diva, and yet you did very little wrestling during your time in WWE. Do you think some of WWE’s current Divas would be more valuable outside of the ring then inside of it?

Tammy Sytch: Yes, maybe some of them. I’ve never been a huge fan of women’s “wrestling”, and have always thought it’s best left to the guys. Some of the girls out there aren’t so talented INSIDE the ring, and I think that just exposes the business even more. You wouldn’t put a Doctor with a shaky hand into surgery, now would you? (laughs)

You can read the full interview here. Sunny also talks about her new cookbook and which promotion she least liked working for.

Maria Kanellis Comments on Possibility of Going to TNA, Other Diva Releases

34

Former Diva and Celebrity Apprentice star, Maria Kanellis talked to the Miami Herald about the possibility of going to TNA and commented on the releases of some of her fellow Divas.

On TNA, she said:

“I never actually talked to [TNA] too much about it,” said Kanellis.

“ I’m not saying that I will never do it, but what I am saying is I’m completely focused on my acting career right now, and with pilot season coming up, I’m just super excited to be out here doing that. I’m in acting classes and working my tail off. I’ve been on tons of auditions.”

Kanellis also commented on the departures of Divas who came in at the same time as her:

“It’s very funny because I still have friends within WWE, and now seeing some of the other girls released, I’m so surprised,” said Kanellis.

“There was a whole group of us that came in together. It was me, Melina, Mickie [James], Jillian [Hall]. We all came in about the same time, and a lot of us are no longer there anymore. It’s kind of funny how we all went in around the same time and left around the same time. I’m just happy about the future.”

You can read the full story here.

Thoughts: Kanellis is keeping super busy, it seems. She has just filmed a movie with Gene Snitsky of all people due in 2013, will be recording more songs for another musical release and has the DivaMania tour coming up with Jillian and Tiffany. Good luck to her. Don’t forget that Maria will join us on Diva Dirt LIVE this Wednesday at 10pm.

May We Suggest: New Year’s Resolutions for the Women of Wrestling

84

With the start of a new year comes the inevitable promises one makes to one’s self. They range from dieting or learning a new language to cutting out vices or staying optimistic. While we at Diva Dirt fully encourage this practice, we feel that a lot of those fall a bit short; to be blunt, they’re a bit generic. So, to spice things up a bit, we’ve put our heads together and come up with a few interesting, life-improving new year’s resolutions for the women of wrestling. This is all in good fun, so we suggest that you don’t try these at home (i.e., take them too seriously). That is, of course, unless you’re the ones to which we’re suggesting them. If that’s the case, we say try away!

Alicia Fox: “I will rethink my hair coloring choices.”

Angelina Love: “I will cease my monopoly over the TNA title belts purely on the grounds that a regular belt will hold up my pants just as well.”

The Bella Twins: “We will find our own identities.”

Beth Phoenix: “I will get the word “glamazon” into Webster’s dictionary.”

Chelsea: “I will perfect my English accent.”

Cookie: “I will, for my next trick, spoof Danielle Staub.”

Daffney: “I will, in an effort to reignite TNA’s interest in me, give David Flair a call.”

Eve Torres: “I will stop “crunking”.”

Gail Kim: “I will cut a promo. This isn’t “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” and I am not a mute.”

Jillian Discusses Her Next Move and Whether She’d Return to WWE

17

Former WWE Divas Champion, Jillian was also interviewed by the Miami Herald this weekend discussing her involvement in DivaMania 2011 with Maria Kanellis and Taryn Terrell.

In the interview, she also discussed what is next for her and whether she’d be open to returning to WWE:

“I don’t know that I really want to go back,” Hall said.

“I love the company and the people in it. I just think that part of my life is over. I’m saying that now, but it can change a month from now. Who knows?

“Right now I’m so up in the air whether I want to continue wrestling or pursue other avenues. There is a part of me that definitely wants to wrestle again. There is another part of me that hurts and says, `Don’t do it anymore. Give your body a rest.’

You can read the full interview here.

Thoughts: Recently, Tara has expressed an interest in helping Jillian come to TNA but it seems like Jillian is uncertain about her future in the industry as a whole. It’d definitely be nice to see her work the independents or head to TNA, but I can definitely understand Jillian’s desire to stay at home with her husband and daughter.

Former Diva Tiffany Comments on Storyline Between Husband Drew McIntyre & Kelly Kelly

70

Former WWE Diva, Tiffany (Taryn Terrell) has gone on record for the first time over the current storyline between husband Drew McIntyre and her former Blondetourage cohort, Kelly Kelly.

The duo have been getting close on Friday nights in a storyline which Taryn reveals was originally pitched with her in mind.

Speaking to the Miami Herald, she says:

“Drew had gone to the writers quite a few times to pitch that exact storyline with me,” said Terrell.

“Then, since I got released, they decided to use Kelly. I’m not really sure if that was meant as a way of, `Yeah. You’re gone. Let us torture you a little bit’ or not. It is what it is. I will never know.

“It sucks because I know that was the role originally pitched for me and Drew, which would have been amazing because we are actually a couple. I think it’s a little bit ridiculous because everyone who watches WWE knows that we are married. So it’s a little strange. I personally don’t understand it, but at the same time I sort of get myself into a little bit of controversy talking about it.

“I get all these tweets saying how I feel about it and about how it’s not acting. Wrestling is real. The actual wrestling is real. Everybody beats the crap out of each other. That’s all real. What goes on backstage and is written by the writers is all acting. It’s acting. So it doesn’t hurt my feelings.

“It’s awkward for them too. Kelly’s boyfriend has to sit there and watch it all too. It’s a little awkward for everybody, but at the same time, I had to do something similar with Ricky Ortiz when I was on ECW. Drew had to watch us touch lips.”

You can read the full interview with Taryn here.

Thoughts: It’s definitely questionable that WWE paired up Drew and Kelly and yes, my mind did wonder — like Taryn’s — whether it was to ‘stick the knife in’. However, having seen their segments together which are like watching paint dry, it’s safe to say that Taryn has nothing to worry about. If WWE has any sense, they’ll drop this little storyline soon because the acting is just cringeworthy and the chemistry is zero.
