Eva Marie confronts Mia Khalifa

The age old complaint over wrestling being “fake” seems to crop up every other year and this time an unlikely source is defending her old stomping ground.

Former WWE Superstar Eva Marie, real name Natalie Eva Marie, recently sat down with Complex News’ Out of Bounds show to discuss Mia Khalifa‘s comment about wrestling not being a real sport. She also talks about her transition to acting and more.

On challenging Mia Khalifa’s claims that wrestling isn’t a real sport: Some moves are [choreographed], so like you’ll go over your finish, whoever’s gonna win or lose because that’s predetermined. However, when you’re in there, usually you’re just going toe-to-toe. So like, if I have you in a headlock, then I’m telling you right then and there what we’re doing next. NFL, NBA, they all have off-seasons. Wrestling doesn’t have an off-season. We’re on the road 209 days out of the year, performing in different cities every single night. Where you have your NBA, and NFL and major league and they’re taking charter flights going to the next city. We’re driving in rent-a-cars to the next city.”

On the difference between training for acting and wrestling: “You have to put your body through a lot of physicality with wrestling. You’re saying you think it’s fake, however when you get in the ring, you’re really taking those bumps…Then when it comes to acting, you’re trying to get out of yourself and be a whole other person, which also helps with WWE, too, because you’re playing a character at the end of the day.”

Natalie is currently modeling and continues to work on her own fashion line.

What do you think about this interview? Are you keeping up with Natalie’s career out of the ring? Sound off in the comments below.

NXT teases the debut of Shayna Baszler

Tonight on NXT (Dec 13th), a new teaser aired for MMA Horsewoman Shayna Baszler’s arrival to NXT.

The WWE previously announced that the Mae Young Classic runner-up had joined to the company back in October.

Tonight’s episode of NXT also served as the first to broadcast on the USA Network. Despite this special edition of NXT, this week’s non-title Women’s match of Emer Moon taking on Peyton Royce streamed on the WWE Network.

After a quick tie-up to start things off, Royce landed knee strikes to the midsection and whipped Moon to the ropes. A springboard off the second ropes allows for Moon to avoid a spinning kick from Royce and counter a head scissors takeover.

Royce slipped to the outside to regroup with Billie Kay but a top rope crossbody from Moon wiped out both members of the Iconic Duo. As Moon tossed Royce back in the ring, Kay provided a small distraction to allow Royce strike and use the ring ropes to tangle up Moon as we head to a break.

After the break, Moon takes control with an arm drag to Royce. Moon followed up with various quick kicks. The women trade reversals until Royce sees an opening to land a back elbow strike, a forearm and kick to the midsection.

Moon ducked a spinning kick and followed up by setting up Royce for a powerbomb. Royce managed to avoid this by holding on to the ropes but Moon would take this moment to land an elevated stomp on Royce. Moon would then climb the turnbuckle to hit the Eclipse for the win.

Post match, Kay entered the ring to strike down the NXT Women’s Champion with a big boot. Royce would join her Iconic Duo partner for a two-on-one attack on Moon. This prompted Nikki Cross to come out to make the save for and chase away the Iconic Dup all while her eyes locked on to Moon’s NXT Women’s Championship.

What did you think of this week’s episode of NXT? Are you excited to see Shayna Baszler in NXT? Would you like to have seen this week’s Women’s match air on the USA Network? Let us know in the comments below!
