Mr. Glamazon’s Hitting the Ropes (Issue #17) – SHIMMER Cappuccino

Hey, I make no apologies, I’m a WWE guy.  I know the WWE is no different than McDonald’s, Wal-Mart, and Starbucks, a huge, publicly traded company that is first and foremost concerned with profitability and market share.  It’s a wildly successful business run by a man whose sole objective is to make money.  The actual wrestling is secondary, really just a vehicle to showcase the individual Superstars, who in turn grab the attention of fans eager to buy the t-shirts, action figures, and Glamasuits that keep the money rolling in.  And as long as the WWE is making money, Vince is going to stick with what works no matter how much some fans wish he would revamp certain aspects of his product (like booking the Divas strong on TV).  Starbucks may burn their coffee, but they sell a boatload of it every day.  I may grumble about the quality, and I may grumble about the price, but there I am every day ordering a white chocolate mocha from the barista (no, not Batista…although if this MMA thing doesn’t work out, you never know…)

A little known fact about me: I can’t function in the morning without a monster cup of coffee.  I’m not one of those people that bounce out of bed when I wake up.  I’m grouchy and irritable.  My back hurts, my feet hurt, my knees hurt.  I stumble around like Ric Flair after an all-night bender.   Truthfully, my wife’s not much better, but since she gets up with the kids she already has a pot of coffee brewing by the time I stagger into the kitchen (God bless her, it’s the little things that keep love alive).  I don’t even say hi to my family until I’m one cup down.  Once I get that first cup in me, though, I start to get excited for the day ahead and I’m a pretty easy guy to be around.  But before that?

Diva Dirt’s Shanti Meets Natalya, Report from Last Night’s Raw House Show

Diva Dirt‘s Shanti met Raw Diva Natalya yesterday in Kennewick, Washington and later saw her in action at the Raw brand house show that evening. Check out her report below:

Me and my brother went to the gym like around 10:30 in the morning to play some basketball to pass time before the house show yesterday. After playing for a while, we ate some lunch and went back to the gym. About 30 minutes after that I glanced out the window and saw a short blonde woman with pink streaks standing next to a really tall, built guy. I told my bro to look at outside. He did and said, “That’s The Hart Dynasty.”

My brother was starting to get excited and called his friend, but I just stayed calm and kept on playing basketball. My brother went outside to meet his friend while I kept playing. I saw DH Smith looking through the window a couple of times along with one of the Usos. After a about an hour, my arm was starting to hurt pretty bad so I went outside where my brother was. After about 15 minutes of chilling with my brother and his friend’s two kids we met The Hart Dynasty. I waited until the kids went up to them first to get autographs before walking up. I handed Nattie my paper and she asked if I was going to the show tonight. I told her that I was and mentioned I was a writer for Diva Dirt. She said “Awesome!” and then said “Aren’t you Shanti? The one with the sign?” I said yes and she said that she’s very excited to see it and how nice it was that I made a sign for her. She also remembered me from two events before where I made a sign for her. After few minutes of chatting, she said she’ll see me later and that she wanted to take a picture with the sign or at least sign it.

TNA’s Cookie Says JWoww was ‘Out of Control’ with Head-Bashing

TNA Knockout, Cookie aka Becky Bayless, who was on the receiving end of a vicious head-bashing at the hands of Jersey Shore’s JWoww on Impact this past Thursday, told TMZ that the guest star was ‘out of control’. Speaking, I’m assuming, in character, Cookie said: “I really think that girl needs to look into some … Read more

TNA Xplosion Watch (October 15, 2010): The Match that Time Forgot

TNA finally saw fit to air this match they had taped for Xplosion a few weeks ago. As a result, we will see Sarita taking on Angelina Love, who has the Knockouts title around her waist. One would’ve thought they would air it before she lost the belt at Bound for Glory, but apparently not. Who will come out the victor? Find out below…

First out is Sarita, in a purple and orange ensemble that leaves me shaking my head. The colours~! Mismatched sleeves and the shorts look two sizes too small. She confidently makes her way to the ring, smirking all the while. Next out is Angelina Love, doing her usual BP pose, wearing one of her standard silver outfits. She enters the ring, holding the belt high. JB points out that this is a non-title match and Sarita believes the Knockouts Champion is ducking her. As Taz disagrees with this belief, the two lockup.

At first, neither can get the upper hand, they both seem to be equally matched. Angelina finally backs Sarita into a corner, breaking cleanly when the referee gets between the two. Once more they lockup and trade holds, doing a nice piece of chain wrestling, until Angelina is hoisted up on Sarita’s shoulders. She might’ve been looking for a variation on the sidewalk slam, but Angelina counters into a beautiful armdrag that sends Sarita flying across the ring.

Pro-Wrestling: EVE Taping Results (October 16th, 2010)

Pro-Wrestling: EVE returns tonight in Sudbury, Suffolk, UK with another DVD taping. Diva Dirt’s Women of Wrestling Podcast co-host Stew Allen is on hand and will be sending us live results.

Stew Allen reporting…

We’re in and ringside. Set up has been upgraded. Lighting rig, entrance way, double screens, custom ring skirt & turnbuckle pads. Looks good.

1. Britani Knight def. Shanna with a variation on Sara Del Rey’s Royal Butterfly for the pin. Tremendous opening match.

2. Jenny Sjodin & April Davids vs Amazon & Destiny went to a wild double DQ in about a minute. Just a brawl. Referee Chris Roberts threw it out and they needed over half a dozen guys to pull everybody apart.

3. Alpha Female def. Janey B (subbing for the absent Melanie Price). Fellow Glamour Gym members Carmel Jacob & Sara-Marie Taylor beat up the fallen Janey post match.

4. The Glamour Gym (Sara-Marie Taylor & Carmel Jacob) def. Team Storm (Becky James & Rhia O’Reilly) when Sara used a leg-hook DDT on Becky. Good tag match with Rhia taking a prolonged beating at the hands of the newly serious Glamour Gym.

Dann Read has made a reference to “three pull-outs,” which I can exclusively reveal are Jemma Palmer, Lisa Fury & Erin Angel, all for various reasons.

SmackDown Diva Appears at FCW Taping

SmackDown Diva, Rosa Mendes worked Thursday’s FCW television taping. Mendes wrestled NXT Rookie Diva, Aksana. JWoww Segment Bombs in Impact Ratings

Despite much mainstream hype, JWoww’s in-ring segment on TNA Impact bombed in the ratings, according to data from PWTorch.

The segment scored the lowest quarter hour ratings of the entire show at just 1.23. The episode averaged a 1.4.

Elsewhere, the Knockouts Championship match and Mickie James’ second Impact appearance fared much better scoring a 1.42 in the quarter hour ratings, improving from the backstage segment involving Eric Bischoff, Hulk Hogan and Dixie Carter beforehand which scored a 1.41.

Thoughts: It’s incredibly disconcerting that the JWoww segment was the least watched portion of the show but I think there are several factors to consider here. Impact on a whole eroded viewers throughout the second hour, so it’s no surprise that the last quarter averaged the lowest ratings as they were already on a decline in the entire 10pm hour.

Additionally, much of the mainstream press that TNA had gotten from JWoww’s appearance mentioned that the show started at 9pm. The opening segment did an unusually high (well, for TNA anyway) 1.53 quarter hour rating, which is possibly due to non-wrestling fans tuning in to see JWoww because of the aforementioned mainstream press mentioning the 9pm start time.

Thirdly, TNA stupidly positioned the JWoww segment in the second hour opposite her own freakin’ show, Jersey Shore on MTV. I’m pretty sure fans of that show and JWoww would be more inclined to watch Jersey Shore than watch her for 5 minutes on a wrestling show. TNA has itself to blame for that, really. Even more stupidly, they specifically positioned this segment to go up against Jersey Shore as they had Robbie E mention in his promo that they were on at the same time. WTF?!

It should be noted that a 1.23 is better than what TNA usually averages. Still, this is not a good look for TNA especially as they shelled out $15,000 to bring JWoww in — but in a way, she did improve ratings, just not for her segment which in my opinion is TNA’s own fault. They mishandled the segment putting it up against Jersey Shore and it’s to their own detriment.

Impact Write-Up (October 14, 2010): Title, Title, Who’s Got the Title? + JWoww Does TNA

(The alternative title was “The REAL Jersey’s in the house BITCH!” but I had second thoughts about that.) Four days ago, we saw Tara crowned as the new Knockouts Champion. Madison Rayne made it very clear she was not happy about this development. Tonight will see the fallout from the match as well as someone from the real Jersey Shore invade Impact looking for the impostor. Lets get down to business, shall we?

Some unfamilar music hits and out comes Madison Rayne wearing black pants with her name splashed on the side and a hot mess of a top. Yikes. She has a referee in tow, and as she climbs into the ring with him, we get a short recap of what happened at Bound for Glory. Madison grabs a mic and goes off about how, on the biggest night in professional wrestling, her plan to become three-time Knockouts Champion went awry. She wants Tara, the person who owes her job in TNA to Madison herself, to come to the ring for a title match right NOW.

“Broken” heralds the entrance of Tara to the Impact Zone. She looks conflicted as she walks to the ring, title belt fitted around her waist. As soon as she gets into the ring, Madison reminds her that it’s because of Rayne that she was back in TNA, that she was able to wrestle, and that she was in the match on Sunday. “ME, ME, ME!” (I know another Madison who’s laid claim to ‘ME’, pretty sure that’s gimmick infringment Ms. Rayne..!) The brunette urges Tara to do the right thing, so very reluctantly, Tara takes off her belt and hands it to the referee. After holding it up, he gives it to the ring assistant, and calls for the bell. Madison again tells Tara to “do the right thing” …and with a good deal of hesitation, Tara lays down. Madison, quite enthusiastically, pins her.

WWE Superstars Redux (October 14th, 2010): Divas Own the Night

The show may be called ‘WWE Superstars’ but it was all about the Divas last night, as we saw not one, but two good, solid matches from the Divas of Raw and SmackDown. Furthermore, it’s worth pointing out that both matches are rematches from pay per views that have occurred in recent months and in both cases, I felt the matches were much better than those PPV outings.

First up, we had Kelly Kelly vs Layla in a rematch from July’s Money in the Bank pay per view. Watch below:

We kick off the show with K2 with #1 Contender, Natalya in her corner. Can this be considered the new Blondetourage? (Come back, Skirt Tiffany!) Next out is Lay-Cool and they are referred to as ‘the strongest Diva alliance in WWE history’. That is quite possibly true.

As the bell rings, Layla begins working out in the ring, before screaming “Boo!” in Kelly’s face. If I didn’t find Layla totally adorable & hilarious, that would have been really lame. It’s a good thing you’re cute, Layla. Kelly finally has enough and slaps Layla straight across the face and it’s on! The two Divas tussle, grabbing each other’s hair and back into the ropes as the referee tries to break things up. Layla runs at Kelly going for a kick but Kelly counters into an atomic drop on the co-Unified Divas Champ. K2 then kicks Layla in the back of the knee, taking her down, and goes for a pin but no dice.

Kelly hits another kick, this time to the front and once again, goes for a cover but Layla kicks out. Layla scatters to the side of the ring seeking comfort from Michelle but Kelly is not far behind and begins stomping into Layla’s lower back. Kelly hits a forearm and attempts to whip Layla into the corner, Lay reverses and runs at K2 but gets a boot in the face. Kelly attempts a crossbody from the middle rope but Layla moves out of the way and K2 instead meets the canvas. Ouch! Layla goes for an opportunistic cover but Kelly kicks out.

Layla hits a snapmare followed by a low kick before applying a nice body-scissors. Layla cinches the submission in tightly and even rakes Kelly’s face. K2 fights back however, pulling Layla’s hair. Layla then expertly rolls over into a pin but they roll back over before a 3 count can be made. She goes for the pin again but at two, Kelly manages to break free and goes for a roll up over her own but Layla kicks her off. Layla then hits a low dropkick on Kelly. Lay then begins pulling at Kelly’s hair but gets an overhead kick from Kelly who then begins smashing her head face-first into the canvas.

A fired up Kelly is on her feet now and riles up the crowd to get behind her as she gains momentum with some offense. Kelly whips Layla into the ropes, but Layla manages to hit that impressive cradle pin on Kelly and nearly has the match won but K2 kicks out.
